The Columbus Blue Jackets kind of had a better week. I mean, for starters they did get a win against the Tampa Bay Lightning. And led the second game before losing 3-2. The effort was there but probably too little too late after their Detroit no-show. Then the Florida Panthers swept the weekend with ole friend-turned foes stealing the show. Sergei Bobrovsky was recognized for his 500-and-counting career NHL games on Saturday, while Alexander Wennberg potted his first-career hat trick. Last week, we were pretty upbeat about the Columbus Blue Jackets and they were starting to pull us back in. They had come off two consecutive wins at the Carolina Hurricanes in overtime and shootout and we thought ‘here they come.’ After a week that saw them garner just one measly point and getting swept — thoroughly outplayed at the Detroit Red Wings — the good vibes are long gone. The Jackets have slipped to sixth in the Central Division and the Nashville Predators have roared back with five-straight victories to take the last playoff spot. Losers of four in a row, Columbus now finds themselves just one win ahead of the Red Wings in the standings, and six points above the Central Division basement. On this week’s edition of The Cannon Cast we get into:

The Columbus Blue Jackets came off a surprisingly good week (I know, bad timing with last night’s loss) following their disappointing week. Jeckle-Hyde and so forth. A regular March Madness with this team. Following back-to-back surprising wins at the Carolina Hurricanes, the Blue Jackets came home to finish the four-game set with Carolina. On this week’s edition of The Cannon Cast we get into:
Whether the Blue Jackets are sucking us back in?
Mikhail Grigorenko and Alexandre Texier heading back and forth via Taxi Squad?
Potential trade decisions?

The Columbus Blue Jackets come off a disappointing week which saw them pick up four of a possible eight points. It’s more disappointing once you consider where they are in the standings — four points behind the Chicago Blackhawks for the final playoff spot, four points above the Nashville Predators who are chasing Columbus. Some missed opportunities were left out on the ice. A tough loss against the Florida Panthers in game two of last week’s back-to-back was disappointing enough before Columbus dropped Sunday’s tilt in a shootout to the Stars. On this week’s edition of The Cannon Cast we get into:
Blue Jackets don’t play Laine in overtime but learning from that?
Blue Jackets trade Veini Vehvilainen to Maple Leafs for defenseman Mikko Lehtonen

Last week we were waiting for the Columbus Blue Jackets to shake their skid, which they did with a 4-1 win at home in front of fans against the Detroit Red Wings. Then they hit the road for Dallas, splitting two games, but coming home with an ugly 5-0 Saturday night loss. Now the Jackets are looking to feast on home-cooking as the Florida Panthers and Dallas Stars are each in town for two games apiece. On this week’s edition of The Cannon Cast we get into:

The Columbus Blue Jackets have really hit the skids, dropping two more to the Predators in Nashville over the weekend and five-consecutive overall. Points are at a premium in a shortened hockey season and the Columbus Blue Jackets are doing what they can to stay in the thick of a crowded Central Division. After what feels like an all-too-familiar series split once again, this time with the Chicago Blackhawks, the Blue Jackets started the week with a rare one-game tilt at the Carolina Hurricanes (7-3 shellacking), before facing the Nashville Predators on Thursday and Saturday at home. In this edition of The Cannon Cast we talk about:
Patrik Laine benched after reportedly mouthing off to an assistant coach, is he long for CBJ?

Maybe the drama just needed to end for the seemingly black cloud over Columbus to be lifted. The drama of course referring to now-former Blue Jackets’ center Pierre-Luc Dubois being traded for star scorer Patrik Laine from the Jets. And if Saturday’s 5-2 win over the Lightning — the first in the post-PLD era — is any indication, there’s a reason that spirits might be high as the team appeared looser already. With Patrik Laine now aboard, as well as Columbus native Jack Roslovic, the Blue Jackets have a big week ahead with some other notable Jackets’ alumni coming back to town.
