Dr. Stefanie Lemcke is the founder of GoKid, a carpooling, scheduling and organization app for parents and caretakers. Dr. Lemcke founded the app when she was seeking a solution to driver fatigue after moving from New York City to Connecticut, oftentimes finding herself trapped in traffic jams with her neighbors as they all drove to the same place, at the same time, to drop off and pick up their kids.
Stefanie is a serial entrepreneur and an experienced digital manager who has worked in innovation and technology for over 17 years. With a background in the children's market, media, and entertainment, she ran the online video department at Sky Germany, headed the legal department at the Disney channel in Germany, and worked at Sony Music.
In 2012 she co-founded New York International, a website and technology for international entrepreneurs launching businesses in the US. Stefanie holds a PhD in law from the University of Munich and an M.B.A.

Vince Luciana joined SurgeX in January 2019 as senior sales engineer following his tenure as an independent consulting engineer. Throughout his career, he has designed electronics for a variety of companies within the consumer electronics, automotive, audio, and power management industries. He also helped to create the HDMI Cable testing protocol for DPL Laboratories. Vince began his career as a design engineer, creating cinema audio products for Smart Theater Systems including a THX Approved cinema subwoofer system. Most recently, he held the position of Chief Technology and Analytics Officer for Innovolt, Inc. At Surgex, Vince is a primary resource in connecting the dots between the product development process and sales initiatives. Gessie Belizaire is a debut author of a thought provoking Political & Social Sciences book titled UnMet Potential. Through a comparative analysis, she is able to look at the long-term ramifications of French colonization on present-day Haiti and Guinea in hopes of uncovering the potential that both nations must rise above the conditions of their past. Born in Haiti and raised in the United States, Belizaire uses her writing to break down cultural barriers, inviting her readers to consider crucial questions about history, the black narrative, and self-identification. She hopes that her writing will empower her readers to be the change they wish to see in the world.
Dedicated to a life of service, Belizaire has served as a Taskforce Member on African American Health for the National Medical Association; and was selected as the William Gould award winner for all around outstanding achievement for her community involvement and academics in 2009. As a former contributing writer for Empower Magazine she is most proud that she was able to highlight stories that uplifted the African American community. Belizaire is also the creator and founder of www.thislifeiliveintruth.com, a blog committed to inspiring others to live their most authentic life. Belizaire is currently a Development Associate at YWCA USA, a non-for-profit dedicated to eliminating racism, empowering women and promoting peace, justice, freedom and dignity for all.

Kara Branch and Melanie Wyatt are the directors of Black Girls Do Engineer Corporation. Black Girls Do Engineer Corporation was established in June of 2019. The organization was created with the concern that Black-American women are not progressing in STEM related careers, and our passion to change the narrative of high turnover and fix this issue. Our goal is to reach youth and young adult women, and guide them towards success in STEM careers in corporate America. Our board of directors and officers consist of Black-American women leading in Engineering, Biology, Project management, Executive MBA, and Lean Six Sigma roles. Sofia Ivanka is an active philanthropist and founder of the nonprofit Building Smart Kids. She is the author of “Fourth Grade Math Rules” in 2009 and“Fifth Grade Math Rules” in 2011. Flora Gant Bridges is a native of St. Louis, Missouri. She is employed by the Department of Justice - United States Marshals Service and holds the position of Chief Inspector. The United States Marshals Service is the oldest federal law enforcement agency responsible for safeguarding the federal court system, protection of the federal judiciary, management of the federal witness protection program, fugitive investigations, the transportation of federal prisoners and management of seized assets forfeited by court order.
Flora has been employed with the U.S. Marshals Service for twenty-twenty-nine (29) years and she has advanced through the ranks to the position of Chief Inspector. As a senior manager, Flora manages a six state region which includes the states of Missouri, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, Illinois and South Dakota. She frequently travels to Washington, DC to serve as a subject matter expert in the area of the federal witness protection program and fugitive apprehension.

Special Agent in Charge Perrye K. Turner manages the FBI’s Houston Division.
Mr. Turner became a special agent with the FBI in 1991 and was assigned to the Birmingham Division, where he worked criminal investigative matters in the Huntsville Resident Agency. Four years later, he transferred to the New Orleans Division and investigated gang, drug, and public corruption matters in the Monroe Resident Agency.
In 1999, Mr. Turner was promoted to supervisory special agent in the Criminal Investigation Division at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C. While there, he worked in the Mexican/Criminal Syndicates Unit of the Drug Section.
Mr. Turner transferred to the Jackson Division in 2001 to supervise the Criminal Enterprise Squad. In August 2004, he worked in the division’s Field Intelligence Group. A year later, he was promoted to assistant special agent in charge in the Memphis Division and managed the Criminal and Administrative Programs for three years and all programs in the National Security Branch for two years.
In August 2010, Mr. Turner returned to FBI Headquarters as deputy assistant director of the Information Technology Engineering Division. He also served as special agent in charge of the Louisville Division.
Mr. Turner earned a Bachelor of Science degree in mathematics and statistics from Louisiana Tech University and a Master of Business Administration from Belhaven University.

William 'Jack' Jackson is a senior consultant with SafeStart who helps companies on creating a safe working environment for employees. Jack’s career has included working in production, operations and safety at Johnson Controls for 19 years, followed by seeing Avanzar Interior Technologies through the safety phase of new construction. In addition to developing a safety program, he also developed a conditioning program to prepare team members to become industrial athletes.Coach Jack worked with two semi-professional football teams for 6 years and was named NAFL defensive coordinator of the year. Jack used his experience to develop a safety concept that teaches participants of his courses that “safety is always first.”

Dr. Havasy has been a scientist, educator, and not-for-profit business executive for over 20 years. Dr. Joye Carter is a board certified forensic pathologist and the first African-American to be appointed a Chief Medical Examiner in the history of the United States. Dr. Carter has worked as the deputy Chief Medical Examiner of the Armed Forces Medical Examiner Department, Chief Medical Examiner of the District of Columbia, and Chief Medical Examiner of Harris County (Houston), Texas. Now she adds another first as the first African-American and female to be appointed as the Chief Forensic Pathologist to the Coroner of Indianapolis, Indiana. Charles Samuel serves as Regional Director, Annuity Distribution, AIG Financial Distribution, the life and retirement services business of American International Group, Inc. (AIG). In this role, he is responsible for driving sales results through the sales team and independent distribution partners. Additionally, Charles develops and delivers sales concepts and strategies that maximize productivity, while improving overall core selling skills for agents, wire house financial advisors and internal sales teams. He joined AIGLR in August of 2003.
Since 2005, he has passed 33 industry leading self-study financial service exams. He currently holds 8 financial service designations (CLU, ChFC, FLMI, AFSI, AAPA, AIRC, ACS, ARA). This year he will take 3 additional courses at The American College and will acquire the RICP designation. The pursuit of knowledge and understanding allows him to properly address customer concerns and stay on top of current market trends. Business partners and clients have crowned him with the nicknames “The Professor” and “Book’em”.
At the age of 8, his parents enrolled him in the Theocratic Ministry School. This school trained him to be a public speaker able to present information to individuals and large groups. Hanh Tran is the seventh and youngest child of Vietnamese-Chinese immigrants, was raised in Houston and learned early on to teach herself and to others to foster personal growth. She received a degree in biology from the University of Houston.
Hanh Tran's work with oil on canvas is based on self-study of the human form, nature, culture and emotion. Her dedication to learning – and a hands-on approach to sharing the art experience with others – is indicative of Hanh's dedication to creating and providing approachable and emotive art.
Heavy, sweeping, broad strokes of thick oil paint that create a three-dimensional effect are trademarks of Hanh's collections and commissioned works. Isaiah Samuels, a 7th grader of Northeast Christian Academy, is the 2016 1st place winner of the African American National Spelling Bee Championships, Inc. ("AANSBC"). Jacqueline Terrell is Executive Director of AANSBC a 501(c)(3) organization founded in 2010 by Houston businessman Robert Garner. Justin Garcia is one of Houston's premiere artist by being acknowledged in 2013 as one of the top “100 Creatives of Houston” by the Houston Press, and was chosen by the Houston Press Editorial Board as the 2013 Artist of the Year. In 2014, Garcia was named one of Houston's Top 10 Painters for 2014 by the Houston Press Editorial, and 2016 Hunting Prize finalist.
Garcia describes his style as abstract expressionist using oils and acrylics on canvas. For over thirty years Nathelyne Kennedy has led a successful career as an engineer in Houston. Founder of Nathelyne A. Kennedy & Associates specializes in civil and structural engineering. Her firm has worked on major projects with the City of Houston, Harris County Toll Road Authority, and the Texas Department of Transportation. Nathelyne's personal accomplishments include being the 1st woman engineering graduate student from Prairie View A&M University and the 1st woman professional engineer registered with the state of Texas. In 2006 Prairie View named the Nathelyne Archie Kennedy Building, housing the School of Architecture and Art, in her honor. William E. Cohn, MD, is Director of the Center for Technology and Innovation; Associate Director of Laboratory Surgery Research in the Center for Cardiac Support; and Director of the Cullen Cardiovascular Research Laboratory at the Texas Heart Institute. He is also a professor of surgery at Baylor College of Medicine and an adjunct professor of bioengineering at both Rice University and the University of Houston. His major research interests include the development of new technology for decreasing the invasiveness of cardiac and vascular surgery and development of the continuous-flow totally implantable artificial heart. In 2011, Dr. Cohn and Dr. O. H. Frazier successfully implanted the first pulseless total heart replacement device in a human patient. Dr. Cohn has a passion for medical device development and has more than 90 US patents granted or pending and another 60 international patents for his medical innovations. His numerous awards include an honorary doctorate in science from Oberlin College, the Distinguished Scientist Award, given by the MacDonald Fund, and the Edison Award for excellence in human-centered design and innovation for inventing the SentreHEART® Lariat® Suture Delivery Device. In 2000, Dr. Cohn was named the distinguished Inventor of the Year by the U.S. Intellectual Property Owners Association and in 2014, he was named Outstanding Inventor of the Year by the Houston IPO. In addition, in 2014 he received an award for the most Innovative Medical Device Startup of the year at the Inn ovations in Cardiovascular Interventions Conference in Tel Aviv for inventing the TVA Everlinq syste m for percutaneous creation of AV fistulas and for founding TVA Medical. Leah Hamilton French was born and raised in Cambridge, MA. The daughter of a museum professional and a craftsman, she had a lot of exposure to the arts as a child. In and out of school she immersed herself in various art forms – piano, signing, ceramics, drawing, and theater. Following her senior year of high school, French combined her love of acting with her interest in making things, competing in the PBS engineering reality show Design Squad: Season 2. In each episode, contestants designed and built solutions to engineering tasks. The best part, according to French, was learning how to use all the tools in the shop. “Before we started filming, they gave us a crash course in the design process, from drafting to test models, to final product. It was really empowering to realize, hey, if I can dream it, I can draw it, and if I can draw it, I can build it.”
French attended Wellesley College, where she majored in Anthropology and French Cultural studies, and joined Teach for America shortly after commencement. As a pre-kindergarten teacher, French found that a curriculum infused with art, math, and science was the best way to engage her young students. Painting and drawing strengthened her students’ early literacy and fine motor skills. Playing with clay and making collage developed their early math skills, like spatial awareness, pattern recognition, and naming, rotating, and tessellating shapes.
Upon moving to Houston, TX, French decided to explore a different approach to education. She worked for Writers in the Schools (WITS), teaching creative writing to young students in the Houston public schools, and loved how easy it was to bring art into those lessons. Currently, she works as a museum educator at Houston Center for Contemporary Craft. She loves that her job combines several of her passions – art, specifically craft, and education. At the moment, French’s pet project is creating downloadable lesson plans that integrate craft into core subjects. “For me, because I have that experience with art, and math, and engineering, I see how they all fit together. I also have experience as a teacher, and know there are only so many hours in the day. I wanted to create a resource to help teachers easily connect art to the math, science, and language arts concepts they are already teaching. When you can find a way to tie it all together, you produce well rounded students, who then become more creative and innovative citizens.”

Lorie Mitchell is the daughter of the late blues singer McKinley Mitchell. She was born in Jackson, MS and was raised in both Houston, TX and Opelousas, LA. She began writing short stories and poems at the age of 16. She attended Southern University A&M College where she majored in Mass Communications and later became the editor for several local advertising magazines in Houston. TX, such as Isispages and i10media's IX Magazine. Almost a decade later she continued on her passion for writing by attending the Art Institute of Houston majoring in Digital Film and Video Production.

Jamie Robertson is a native of Houston, Texas. She received a B.A. in Art from the University of Houston in 2012 and a M.S. in Art Therapy from Florida State University in 2014. She currently works at Houston Center for Photography as Outreach Coordinator. She is a member of the American Art Therapy (AATA) and serves on the Multicultural Committee. In addition she is a former recipient of AATA's Pearlie Roberson Award for her joint Frenchtown Mural project. Her personal art explores African American history and her personal genealogy and mythology. Jamie’s other interests include the implementation of art and art therapy for social change and cultural community development. Jamie hopes to use the healing and transformative properties of art to improve her community in Houston.

Dr. Flowers has had the privilege to know Julius since 6th grade as well as involvement with robotics. Julius graduated from Westside High School and attended the University of Texas Austin earning a degree in Electrical Engineering. For the past 2.5 years he has worked at Microsoft based in Washington.
Julius spends most days at Microsoft doing diagnostics for cloud applications, “I find problems in software before the customer encounters it.” Julius stays challenged by Microsoft hack-a-thons which creates competition and learning of new technology to apply to his profession.

VEX Robotics works with students from elementary school to college students by developing competition challenges across the world. Karthik believes it’s all about putting great tools in kids hands and giving them an exciting challenge which will inspire them to put down the distractions of video games and social media where they are building and learning about engineering, teamwork, and all sorts of great things.
Karthik contributes robotics changed his viewpoint giving me an avenue for his competitive spirit in an educational realm, “being a part of the robotics competition is an exciting atmosphere where you wanted to succeed.” Robotics places you in real world situations with mentors, industry professionals, and how one can have a cool career.
We need people that can think critically and solve the big problems on big issues such as climate change and affordable energy. According to Karthik the Urban Nexus theme consist of health, education, and environment; “we need to change education so we can solve problems such as health-related and environmental-related.“

Marc Newsome is the owner of Furious Films and has been in the industry for over ten years.
I keep abreast of technology to remain efficient and creative. I have experience in graphic design to give my visual eye. I have experience in photography. Filmmaking is photography combined with storytelling.
I made a romantic comedy called What Friends Are For that was played in festivals. I did a short film on gentrification, Here Comes The Neighborhood that was in a HBO Film Competition. Afterwards I was asked to do professional work.
Challenges: Video gear, lenses, technology, and software gets expensive. As trends and visuals change you want your product to look good within reason. These days you can do great work on your phone. There are visual components in everything.
Success is when I get to the point where what I created is as good as what is in my brain.
Gary studied at the University of Wisconsin and obtained a Masters of Fine Arts from University of Illinois Champaign.
One of Gary’s biggest challenged was learning the administrative aspects to the art world; “you’re trained for the technical aspects of art, not the admin part.
The joy of life creeps into your art making. Gary provides good advice on experiencing life and bringing that into your art. Art can be a way for you to process what happened in life. It can be therapeutic.
One’s quality life can be based on happiness. Think about if you are doing something happy. As a culture, are you doing something to improve the quality of life. I don’t take it lightly that I work with metals. As a maker of objects, I hope they do not end up in the landfills. I try to use objects that do not hurt the Earth.
The objects around us have a story. You can have the community around you to collect and engage. Finding ways to repurpose items instead of throwing them away. Objects have something beyond what you see to the eye.
Success is a work in progress. I feel that I am relatively successful because I’m still doing what I setup to do and I still love it.
