We live in an age in which the media is too often used as a means to constrain and restrict rather than express. Radio Free Brooklyn is building a communication infrastructure to strengthen the community of artists and residents of NYC’s most populous borough.
Our Mission:
We chose Internet radio not only because it is the most accessible medium for many, but because radio can be so many things: a subversive apparatus, a political cudgel, a prank, a ritual, a bond. We broadcast not the commercial dross that clogs the terrestrial airwaves, but original programming as diverse as the programmers themselves – stories, sound art, radical ideation, comedy, sex, and experimentation yet unheard. We are a community organization - all are welcome to participate.

The Jheri Curl Chronicles flips a previous theme on its ear. An older episode played rock-oriented songs by R&B and funk artists. This one gives examples of R&B and dance songs by traditionally rock artists. '80s hits by Rod Stewart, Peter Gabriel, Pat Benatar, Phil Collins and more are included in this mix.
Our special guest for this episode is songwriter/producer Michael Goldwasser. Goldwasser has produced records for a variety of acts including the Easy Star All-Stars, and he currently performs as R&B act Goldswagger. As a lover of '80s R&B, he is perfect for this show, which features his selections by Young and Company, The Jacksons, Indeep and New Edition, among others.
The JCC radio show does a bit of a stylistic turn for this episode, which co-stars singer and songwriter Julian Velard.
