Jason Criddle is a millennial entrepreneur who has used a lot of off the cuff approaches and tactics to get where he is now. As the CEO of a software firm projected to hit a trillion dollars in revenue in a very short time, his days are filled with phone calls, publicity, conferences, round-trip flights, and meetings with new employees and partners to walk this path with him. One thing Jason has learned throughout this endeavor, is that a lot of millennials don't take action to work towards their dreams as much as they tend to talk about them... And the older generations work their butts off to get things done right. So now, his best partners are turning out to be Gen X'ers and Baby Boomers. Jason feels that if we can, as a society, bridge this mental barrier between the existing working class generations, we can all work together to build a brighter, cleaner, more stable future for our children, and grandchildren.

What is the Over / Under? It’s a metaphor for two companies, one that was over-funded and the other under-funded. The results aren’t what you would think. In 1999, Charlie Alsmiller armed with a co-founder and a powerpoint raised a 4.2 M series venture round from top-tier venture firms. 3 years later, the company failed spectacularly, despite having a product, a top tier list of customers and a reasonable revenue base. In 2005, Charlie took a different approach. Armed with a laptop and an office in the back of his attorney’s office, he had no business plan, no customers, no products and no capital. He set out to listen to the market and the market told him how to build his business. Today, 11 years later, his company is one of the top Business-to-Business integration firms, supporting some of the largest companies in the world in their mission critical processes. This business was built on the idea that revenues MUST lead expenses. Learn why it's not a mere desire; it's an imperative.

In 2011, with fuel prices rising he decided to take the leap and started American Bio Source. Hear Walter's story on how he built his business. Both programs target entrepreneurial owners of small companies that were poised for growth, and would benefit from market-based business education and access to capital, a segment under-served by existing business-support programs. Should small businesses be offering workplace wellness programs? Should they continue to offer health insurance or should they send their employees to the Affordable Care Act (ACA) health insurance marketplaces? How do small businesses differ from large corporations in how they handle health insurance? The ACA has been a game-changer for employers. It has allowed companies to provide bigger incentives for employees' healthy behaviors. However, there has been controversy over whether this is a good or bad development. Small businesses continue to pay more for employee health insurance, compared with large corporations, because they represent potentially greater risk to insurers. However, insurers must spend at least 80 percent of small-business premiums on medical costs. If they do not, they have to refund the balance. More small businesses are gravitating toward high-deductible plans for their employees. There are advantages and disadvantages to this, and we will discuss both.

How to maximize operational efficiencies, avoid feeling like you are being held hostage by a key employee and make onboarding a fun and smooth process by systemizing the processes in your business. Hiring, training, sales, accounting, operations, all key processes of your business, can and more importantly should be systemized. Having documented systems in place makes onboarding and transitions run smoother. Everyone knows where to go and what to do…simply follow the system. Key employees can leave for a few days without chaos. New employees have a resource to turn to instead of having to ask someone how to do everything (or worse, just guess). And the business owner can go on vacation and not have to worry about things falling apart. In fact, Johnette van Eeden did just that – went on vacation for a month during the busiest time of the year and didn’t have to worry because she knew we had the systems and people in place to make it run smoothly.

Most people are familiar with the phrase, “You can have it all.” Some believe this is an accurate possibility; however, having it all isn’t always a possibility for entrepreneurs. You can be a mother/father, wife/husband and business owner, but you can’t do it all by yourself. Apart of growing your business is learning how to delegate responsibilities to others, along with surrounding yourself with trustworthy people. Entrepreneurs need to learn how to compartmentalize their time, while knowing that running your own business is not a nine to five job. Even though it is rewarding to help people and be your own boss, becoming an entrepreneur is not meant for everyone. Running a business requires a lot of time, energy and money as well as juggling multiple roles within a company. Deborah Gregory, former IRS attorney and co-founder of Gregory Law Group, will share with us how she balances her role as a co-founder of a tax law firm, along with her role as a wife and mother to two boys.

How early should children begin writing computer code? “Kindergarten,” says Dr. Allen Selis. Selis believes that American schools are at risk of creating a generation of students who are functionally illiterate in the fields of computer programming, engineering and design. In response, Dr. Selis launched Tech EdVentures, a Dallas-based educational technology company that specializes in coding for kids from Pre-K through Eighth grades. Over the last year, Tech EdVentures has brought classes in micro-chip programming, robotics, computer assisted design and computer programming to young children. In this session, Selis shares his vision of how education is about to change and why private-sector educational entrepreneurs will be the most important agents of change.

Lack of integrity is the most serious challenge facing business today, yet you’ll struggle to find anyone in business who would not strenuously defend their personal integrity. The stark reality is that corporate integrity is only possible if there is personal integrity in managers and employees alike, and ethical standards have been declining for decades. The trouble is that integrity is a poorly understood concept – it is much more than just honesty. A proper understanding of the concept enables a leader to pursue the ideal personally, and to implement measures to develop personal integrity in employees and corporate integrity in the business. Integrity issues impact vision, strategy, brand, culture, teamwork, productivity, profitability, and everything else. That’s why it has to be your top priority as a leader.

Businesses have dramatically increased their use of contingent workers over the past decade due to the struggle with rising labor costs and the need for a workforce that can quickly adapt to market conditions. It is estimated that approximately 30% of the North American workforce is either contingent, contractual or a temporary in some regard and that this labor trend will increase to 50% by 2016. Organizations are also quickly adopting contingent workforce strategies due to regulatory pressures and to simply bring their organization to the next stage of maturity. With such a large percentage of the workforce traversing into this realm it is critical for organizations to understand the inherent risks, benefits, challenges, and potential solutions to assist them with effectively growing and managing their contingent talent base.

Business partners often joke that they’re married to one another. What happens when you actually are married to your business partner? Husband and wife Jeremy and Lila Stewart launched flip-flop brand Hari Mari in Dallas two years ago. They knew that combining home life and work life can be fraught with landmines. But just as there are horror stories, there are also successful couples who have built household brands together. Through some missteps, the Stewarts learned to navigate the challenges of working as husband-and-wife entrepreneurs and find balance between their personal and professional lives. Along the way, they’ve nurtured Hari Mari into a premium flip-flop brand that is carried in 270 stores across 39 states. Hari Mari recently celebrated a milestone: It got picked up by national brands Jack Spade and Urban Outfitters. And sales are growing rapidly: Hari Mari sold more flip-flops in the first three months of 2014 than it had for all of last year.

We are living in a time of extraordinary acts of public contrition: think Paula Deen or Lance Armstrong, Yet, most of the time these public expressions of sorrow are without moral content and are, instead, what some pundits call non-apology apologies. In this program we will contrast non-apology apologies with authentic apologies. We will examine apologies in business and litigation contexts, and look at places where authentic apologies ameliorate litigation, as they have been proven to do in medical malpractice settings. We will see how the moral integrity of apology can be subverted, especially in legal environments. Yet, we will also see how apology, when authentically offered, has the capacity to heal – both the party receiving the apology as well as the party offering it. For businesses, this healing increases good will. The program will help you distinguish between these types of apologies, and understand why more than sorry matters.

Do you feel you are leaving money on the table when you price your products? Do you get upset when your sales people give a discount to close the sale? Are you using a pricing model that is bottoms up: add % mark-up to get to the selling price? I will talk about Value Based pricing – there are three steps to this pricing model. It is simple and direct. It is a good way to analyze your pricing approach. The model considers the market and pricing to the conditions in the market. Even if you think you are selling a commodity product – there may be pricing wiggle room. Are all the products you sell commodities or are there some unique products? Not sure about these questions, you will find out about the Value Based pricing. Improved pricing will increase your bottom line; reduces discounting; and will make you feel you are in charge of the pricing not the market.

Your sales team is not your entire organization. However, your entire organization is your sales team --- because there is not one person in your organization who can’t cost you a sale! Today’s economy has caused ‘non-traditional’ salespeople to assume more sales responsibilities. . The challenge is that these people don’t want to be professional salespeople. But, they must be professionals who can sell. Bryan Flanagan addresses this challenge and how to communicate your value so you don’t have to defend your price or your fees. You will learn that selling is a process, not a personality. Bryan believes that companies generate more revenue by solving problems than by selling products. To achieve this, companies must implement a client-centered sales methodology. The benefit to those ‘non-traditional’ salespeople is this: The Sales Process takes pressure off the salesperson.

Meaningful business comes from meaningful relationships. But how are meaningful relationships really created, and what is it that really needs to be managed? Mike Muhney, the Co-Founder & Co-Inventor of ACT!, the product that originally created the entire Relationship Management software category in 1987 and to date has sold over 10 million copies worldwide to PC users, dispels the notion of thinking that any type of relationship can really be managed, regardless of whether it is personal or business. Further, despite today's CRM multi-billion dollar annual industry attributing ACT! as the pioneer and creator, he pokes at the inherent shortcomings of CRM systems. Today's mobile and multi-device user has demands and needs that encompass more than CRM systems can provide, all the while avoiding the illusions of relationships so easily crafted by social media. This will be a no-holds-barred look at the state of relationships today and what it takes to distinguish oneself and win.

As women we want to be seen as understanding, compassionate and fair. Powerful? Don’t go there. Fearful of perceptions and stereotypes, even the strongest women sometimes perceive power as being negative. Anxious about being labeled as demanding or hard to please, women often feel hesitant to assume appropriate power. The result? Women give away their legitimate power in ways they can’t even see. They struggle with setting limits and self-care. Using metaphors from the equine world, Darcie Harris leads women to rethink their perceptions of power, face the fears that cause them to play small, and stop behaviors that hold them back from creating the lives they really want. By redefining their beliefs, women develop the confidence to embrace their passion and potential, and embrace the grace of power to become a force of goodness in the world.

It’s in the moments of making the right decisions at the right times that leaders can make a positive, constructive impact on employees and the organization. Many leaders are finding that their employees are not active or happy participants in the greater purpose of the organization. In fact, historic Gallup research indicates that the current state of employee engagement in the United States is dismal (and by the way, the numbers in the United States were higher than for any other country). This discussion explains what an engaged employee is and why engagement is vital to both individuals and the organization, i.e., improved performance, employee satisfaction, and talent retention. We offer a new perspective on how our attitudes, beliefs, and behaviors can create a work environment that either fosters engaged employees, or contributes to employees' lack of engagement, and also identify nine principles as action steps for building a more fully engaged and satisfied workforce.

What does it take to lead a business? How do you make sure you’re on the right track? What are the accelerators and what are the pitfalls? Linda Bush, in her work with executive leadership development at critical junctures, will show you how she has successfully applied the principles of Dr. George Ainsworth Land in his landmark book, Grow or Die: The Unifying Principle of Transformation to a variety of entrepreneurial and mid-size businesses.
