At the end of this class, you will learn how to produce 1 NEW sound that you didn’t know your lips could produce and perfect your pronunciation in English: the short "i".
You will need a mirror or your phone.
I want you all to feel what I (Renata) feel when I pronounce and hear these sounds. The same a-ha moment that I had when I realized the actual difference – OUTSIDE of any books or manuals. What I am about to tell you I figured out by observing and listening. I am probably not the first person to say this, but my point is: if you listen carefully to others and to yourself, you will learn so much. The production of sounds is mechanical. It can be repeated and copied and trained. And, as usual, we are tackling a communication issue. Mixing up these sounds will get you into deep trouble, just as MC did – listen to her story in the video!

In this week's live lesson (We are live on Instagram every Wednesday at 9pm BRT! Tune in! www.instagram.com/fluentforreal), we talked about Causative Form, a very idiomatic structure that expresses favors and services the right way. In English, we need to be careful: don't say that you DID something, when in fact it was a service that you contracted. Ex: "I did my nails last week". And this affects the workplace, too! We are always transfering tasks, and if we inform it well, we don't sound rude or bossy.

This week's live was about a common struggle for a lot of Brazilian learners: the pronunciation of the final "ed" sound of verbs and adjectives in English.
We talk about the rules for the "ed", what we believe people TRY to do when they are pronouncing it, and some exceptions to the rule.
Also, there is a lot of practice throughout the podcast, plus an exercise (below), which I explain in it:

An old man lived in the village. He was one of the most unfortunate people in the world. The whole village was tired of him; he was always gloomy, he constantly complained and was always in a bad mood. The longer he lived, the more bile he was becoming and the more poisonous were his words. People avoided him, because his misfortune became contagious. It was even unnatural and insulting to be happy next to him. He created the feeling of unhappiness in others. But one day, when he turned eighty years old, an incredible thing happened. Instantly everyone started hearing the rumor: “An Old Man is happy today, he doesn’t complain about anything, smiles, and even his face is freshened up.” The whole village gathered together. The old man was asked: Villager: What happened to you? “Nothing special. Eighty years I’ve been chasing happiness, and it was useless. And then I decided to live without happiness and just enjoy life. That’s why I’m happy now.” – An Old Man
