On this podcast episode I talk about the cost of borrowing money and specifically the fear of borrowing money (which I see many beginners have).
I use a live case study of a house that I am currently fixing and flipping in Cocoa Beach, which will be listed on the MLS in the next few weeks for $169,900. My purchase price was $55,000.
On this fix and flip case study, I borrowed ALL of the money. I borrowed the $55,000 to purchase the property and I also borrowed the $30,000 to repair the property. My out of pocket cost at closing was zero. And I received a check of $28,000 which I used to contribute towards the cost of the repairs. I only needed to lay out $2,000 from my pocket for closing costs and another $1,800 for taxes, insurance and utilities. The net cash that I laid out from my pocket was only $3,800 on this house.
The profit on this deal is $58,950 assuming I can net a sales price of $160,000. That profit of $58,950 is AFTER commissions, interest, insurance, repairs, utilities and closing costs.
That profit of $58,900 is on an investment of only $3,800 cash out of pocket. That represents a return on cash invested of 1,550% which is HUGE.
If you want to be a real estate investor, then you are going to need to get over your fear of borrowing money. You will also need to fix your credit and learn how to pay your bills (and interest) on time.
You need to learn how to borrow money from investors, and you need to learn how to leverage that money to make even more money. Remember that the KEY to growing your business is learning how to borrow money.

On this podcast episode I talk about how to calculate the After Repair Value (ARV), so that you can know how much to offer on a property.
Most new investors, and a fair amount of seasoned investors make the mistake of using common tools like Zillow, the MLS, and the Property Appraiser Website to estimate what a house is worth.
On this podcast I talk about why that is a mistake and how that mistake can cost you a lot of deals (and a lot of money). I use as an example, a house that I just purchased last week from a wholesaler. I paid $105,000 for this house and the wholesaler purchased it for $90,000.
According to most online estimates on sites like Redfin, Zillow, Movoto and Trulia the house is worth around $125,000. However the real ARV on this house is probably more like $165,000. I explain to you in detail how I came up with that number by showing you how I use the MLS to see what is for sale right now and how a first time home buyer with an FHA mortgage thinks.
Using the wrong tools, or not having complete access to tools like a good comparable sales report (which is not free) can create a situation where you rely on sites like Zillow, the property appraiser and the MLS for comps and to estimate ARV. While that may work (more or less) sometimes - it won't work all the time.
Those sites can, and will, throw you astray. You will not always get accurate numbers if you use these sites to estimate ARV. Having access to the MLS, and a good comparable sales report (we use Title Pro), plus doing the work in understanding your market, what sold, and what is listed for sale, can be the difference between being way off, or spot on when it comes to estimating the ARV.
This is one of the most important (and overlooked) topics for new investors. And that is one of the main reasons that I focus on it so much in our training's. Knowing how to make money out of deals that other people pass on is my specialty. I buy awsome deals every day from wholesalers that other investors pass on. And you want to know why? Because they are not dialed into the ARV. If you learn how to really know your comps, your market, and your ARV's, then you will see how you will make a lot more money as a real estate investor.

On this podcast episode I talk about the systems that you need to set up to get started as a wholesaler.
I talk about the benefits of having your real estate license and why this is important for marketing properties, getting lock box codes and having access to properties.
Then I cover buyer and seller web sites, and why it is so important to have a motivated seller site for motivated seller leads and a cash buyer site for cash buyers. Your cash buyer site also doubles as a site where you can post your wholesale deals. If you don't have any deals then post another wholesalers deals (with their permission). Or even better - hire a virtual assistant to do it for you!
I speak about call tracking and why you need to use a call tracking system so you can track your buyer and seller leads. You need to know where your leads are coming from. I also speak about phone systems and why you shouldn't use your cell phone or Google Voice for your phone number for your websites and bandit signs and direct mail.
Then I talk about CRM's and why you need a CRM to keep track of all of your leads. We touch on topics like hiring lead managers, bird dogs and virtual assistants. I also talk about bidding on properties on online auction sites and setting up an offer making system (which you can train your virtual assistant to do).
There is a lot of meat and potatoes in this episode. If you are new to wholesaling then make sure you have a pen and notepad to take lots of notes.

On this podcast episode I talk about borrowing money to fix and flip houses.
I start out by explaining why you should borrow money for fix and flips, even if you have the cash to fix and flip without borrowed money. I explain the tax benefits, leverage and increased return on investment by using borrowed funds.
We also talk about deal flow, and why no matter how much cash you have, you will eventually tap out if you don't tap into borrowed funds from private lenders.
I breakdown a deal, showing you the typical borrowing costs for a borrower if they were borrowing money from me to do their first fix and flip and what that looks like.
I also talk about why you should attend your local REIA meetings to meet and network with other investors, wholesalers, rehabbers and lenders. If you need to borrow money then go where the lenders are.
And finally I talk about why the best thing you can do if you are just starting out, is to learn how to locate deals for other investors. That is what our Partnership Program is all about - teaching you how to bird dog and be a property locator for other investors and how to become a wholesaler.

On this podcast episode I talk about marketing your wholesale real estate deals. The system that we employ I like to call "brute force" marketing. Since we have Virtual Assistants posting so many of our deals in so many places, they just have to get noticed by cash buyers. And that is the point since that is what makes the phone ring! And if you want to sell houses then you need buyers.
I share with you the template that I use with my Virtual Assistants and the sites that we use to post our wholesale real estate deals including:
Wholesale Real Estate Deals Blog Lex Real Estate System Site Investor Carrot Web Sites Wholesale Deal Sheet Craigslist Ads My House Deals Facebook Page Facebook Groups Text Blast Email Blast List on MLS Facebook Ads Phone Calls to buyers Personalized Emails Personalized Texts
If you employ our system for marketing your wholesale real estate deals (which is really simple to do) you will see that your phone will start ringing with cash buyers!

On this podcast episode I talk about one of the easiest ways to find good wholesale deals.
Direct mail, ringless voicemail, bandit signs, making offers, bidding online and outbound dialing are all excellent ways to find good deals.
But sometimes as investors we forget that there are some really good wholesale real estate deals out there that are already under contract by other wholesalers in your market. Think about it for a second. They have spent the money on marketing to find the seller. They have gone on the appointments and they have "locked up" the property. Now all they want is to sell it to a cash buyer and make a profit. You need to learn how to be that cash buyer that they want to sell to.
This is an amazing opportunity since everyone wants to learn how to wholesale, and every new investor wants to be a wholesaler. But no one wants to borrow money and close on the deal themselves! That creates an opportunity for real estate investors like myself that are willing to "take a deal down". If you have the ability to close by purchasing the deal, even with borrowed money - then if the deal makes sense you should buy it. That is what I do.
In order to do this you need to have only three things. The first is you need to have all of the wholesalers in your local market sending you their deals. The second thing you need to have is an efficient system to screen through these deals. The easiest way to do this is to narrow down your focus to a specific area and for you to have specific buy parameters. Those parameters can be given to wholesalers and you need to let them know that you will buy any deal that meets those parameters. When they call you, you need to be ready, willing and able to "take those deals down". If you don't then you won't be there first call on the next deal that they get.
And the third thing that you need to have is a lender so that you can borrow the money to pay cash and close on the property. Ironically this is the easiest of the three parts (even though most new investors think it is the most difficult).
On this podcast episode I talk about how to go about being that cash buyer that wholesalers text and call first when they get an awesome deal. And how you can benefit from this by keeping them happy. It's all about keeping them happy. What they want is a cash buyer that closes. They don't want someone to re-market their deal. They don't want you to find them a buyer. They don't want a buyer that is going to flake. They want a buyer that will close. Be that person and you will become the first cash buyer that wholesalers contact.

On this podcast episode I talk about how to find cash buyers and how to go about building your cash buyers list.
On previous episodes, I spoke about the importance of marketing to motivated sellers in order find wholesale deals at discounted prices. Once you find those deals, and get them under contract, then you need to have a cash buyer in order to sell that property. Having many cash buyers is the key to being able to sell those houses that you have under contract. And the more cash buyers you have, the easier it will be to sell your deals quickly. We sell some of our deals in less than two hours because we have so many cash buyers.
Knowing how to build your cash buyer's list is just as important as knowing how to find wholesale deals. If you want to be good at wholesaling you need to know how to do both very well.
When you have a big list of cash buyers, you will find yourself in a situation where you have more cash buyers than deals. At this point other wholesalers will reach out to you to market their deals for them. And when you do this, you will find yourself making money relatively easily since all you need to do is copy and paste some information in your email blast and you get paid if any of your buyers like the deal.
This is why networking with other wholesalers is so important. You should attend every real estate investment club meeting in your area and network with other wholesalers and investors.
Many landlords and Fix and Flip Investors go to these meetings. Introduce yourself to them, make sure you have a card and start instantly building your buyers list.
Listen to this podcast episode to learn how many different ways you can go about building your cash buyers list.

On this podcast episode I talk about learning how to wholesale real estate, and why wholesaling attracts the largest amount of new real estate investors.
I share with you the importance of having a goal and a vision of thinking about, understanding, and knowing what you want to achieve from wholesaling. I also explain to you why one person's goal and how much they are looking to make from wholesaling may be very different to someone else's.
It does not matter whether you have a full time job with no spare time, or you have lots of time but no money. What does matter is knowing how to employ your circumstances into trading either your time or your money (or both) into learning how to wholesale. The key thing to understand is that it will help you if you have a vision of what it is you are trying to accomplish BEFORE you get started learning how to wholesale. Ask yourself what it is that you want to achieve. Listening to this podcast episode should help you with that.

On this podcast I talk about the Buy, Repair, Rent and Refinance strategy which is often referred to as BRRR.
The concept behind the buy, repair, rent and refinance strategy is that if you can find deals at 75% or less of the After Repair Value (ARV), you can essentially be doing no money down deals because you will get your money back when you refinance. You will then be able to use that same money to buy your next property.
When you refinance the property and get your money back then you are essentially in your first deal for no money down. At this point you can use the same funds to buy the second property and then repair, rent and refinance that one too. You can do this for your first ten rental properties.
What makes this strategy even more appealing is when you borrow the funds from a private lender to purchase the property. Once you do this once, you will realize the only thing stopping you from buying unlimited properties is having more private lenders.
When you have multiple private lenders you will get to a point where your main dilemma won't be finding capital but finding houses. And that is where your growth will happen. That is what will take you from a small business making $10,000 or $20,000 a month to a business that can make $200,000 a month (or more).
The key is to constantly be marketing to motivated sellers. Many beginners think that not having access to capital is what holds them back. It's not. What is holding them back is learning how to find good wholesale deals at wholesale prices that are less than 75% of market value. And the way you find many of those deals is from motivated sellers (and also short sales and bank owned properties.
If you buy a few properties a year using this strategy, you can substantially increase your income, net worth and cash flow. Buy and hold a few properties a year and in just 10 years you will have a very substantial net worth!

On this podcast episode I talk about raising private money from private lenders. Many beginners that don't have much money want to know the "secret" to raising money.
The reality is that there is no secret. The secret is approaching investors in the right way and knowing how to find those investors.
You see if you ask people who have money to invest with you, they will invariably say no. The secret that you need to understand is that you need to focus on what THEY NEED. They need security, and they need to know that you are going to pay them their interest payment every month, and they are going to need to know that their investment is safe and that they have collateral. And finally, they are going to need to know that you know what you are doing and that you have some experience. If you can show them those 4 things then you will have no problem raising capital.

On this podcast episode I talk about how to get started investing in real estate with no money.
If you don't have much money, but you want to learn how to get started in real estate, then listen to this podcast. I will explain to you why being a real estate property locator or bird dog is the best way to start out, and why you don't need to have any money to start looking for deals for investors.
That is how I started out, and that is what I recommend for you as well. Even if you do have money, I still recommend that you start out as a property locator and learn how to wholesale, before you start putting your hard earned cash (and credit) on the line.

On this podcast episode I talk about buying deals directly from wholesalers, and how that is an untapped niche that many investors don't utilize.
Much of the focus for new and experienced wholesalers focuses on finding deals, getting the houses under contract and then flipping those houses to cash buyers.
However, just because you are a wholesaler, doesn't mean you can't be a cash buyer too. The key is to know what a property is worth. If you know the After Repair Value of the property, and you know for a fact that there is a substantial profit that could be made by rehabbing that property, then you can close on the house yourself and fix and flip the property. All you would need to do this is access to capital, a private lender or a credit line.
Even if you have zero desire to be a rehabber (like many wholesalers) you will not give away your best deals too cheaply if you know what they are worth and you know what you could sell them for. Knowing the ARV is very important.
You can also apply this same strategy to close on deals from other wholesalers. The key is that you need to position yourself to be the ideal cash buyer. The way you do this is by being very specific on what it is that you are looking for, and when they bring you a deal that meets these parameters then close on the deal and make sure they get paid. Next time they get a deal you will be their first phone call.

On this podcast episode I talk about getting started in real estate and the three main investing categories of real estate which are wholesaling, fixing and flipping and rentals.
When you first start out in real estate, you need to decide if you want to focus on learning how to wholesale, how to fix and flip or how to buy and hold rental properties long term.
It is tempting to want to learn all three investing strategies at the same time, but this is a classic beginner's mistake because each strategy requires a different and unique skill set. You will actually advance more quickly as a new investor if you focus on one skill set as a time (for example wholesaling).
For most new investors, wholesaling and learning how to locate deals for other investors is the best way to start out because it gives you the most learning and requires the least amount of money. You don't risk any money wholesaling and if you are a beginner this is a very key and important consideration.
If you have a good job and decent credit then you should be looking at building up your rental portfolio as well. And you should take the profits that you make from wholesaling and put that money to work in fixing and flipping and buying more rental properties.
So you can learn how to do all three but I know many investors that make 7 figures a year that only wholesale or only fix and flip (meaning you don't have to know all three). But whether you fix and flip or wholesale for a living you should still be buying investment properties for the long term since that is how you will create true wealth for your future. And that is what will give you financial freedom. I discuss all three strategies and the pro's and cons of each strategy on this podcast.

On this podcast episode I talk about the types of contracts you should use for wholesaling.
One of the most common questions that I get is "what type of contract should I use". The answer is it depends. If you are buying from an entity like a bank or short sale, HUD, Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, then you will need to use the Standard Purchase Contract for your state. In Florida it's called the FARBAR Contract. Banks and entities will also not allow you to assign their contracts so you cannot use the words "and or assigns" on a contract if one of these entities is the seller.
However if you are buying directly from a motivated seller then you can pretty much use any contract that you want. When buying direct from sellers your contract should be:

On this podcast episode I talk about buying houses with no money down. One of the easiest ways that I know to explain "no money down" deals is to give you a real life example of my first no money down house that I purchased.
The house that I am talking about on today's podcast was a house that I estimated had an After Repair Value (ARV) of $120,000. The house was offered to me by my mentor (who got it from a wholesaler). The purchase price was $50,000 which included all of the wholesalers fees. The house had a significant amount of water damage from Hurricane Frances and needed around $25,000 in repairs.
I purchased this house with a $50,000 loan from my mentor's partners dad. I borrowed the $25,000 for repairs from my friend Darryl's mom.
After repairing this house (using my mentor's crew) I rented out the front house for $1,200 and I rented the back unit efficiency for $600 (total $1,800 per month). I went to my mortgage broker Warren to refinance the house. The house appraised for $163,000 and after paying off my lenders I received $39,000 on the cash out refinance. I used that money as a down payment to purchase my primary residence in Boca Raton (I still own that house).
Remember this, if you can buy houses and your "all in cost" (purchase plus repairs plus fees) is less than 80% of what the house would appraise for, then you too can buy houses with no money down. The trick is - how to find these houses.
My Home Study Course that I give to all of my Partnership Program Students starts out with the first 10 houses that I purchased (all with no money down). This house that I am talking about on today's podcast is house number one in my Home Study Course.

On this podcast episode I talk about driving for dollars and how driving for dollars has one of the highest Return on Investment (ROI) of any of our marketing methods that we use.
I discuss the old school method of using a notepad and pen to jot down the addresses of vacant and boarded up properties and how to use the property appraiser web site to locate the property owner (to mail them a postcard or letter).
I compare that to the new technology methods of using smart phone apps like Deal Machine (www.dealmachine.com) and Send Fuse (www.getsendfuse.com) to market with postcards to motivated sellers. If you are not driving for dollars and using these apps then you should be.
I also discuss your "investor toolkit" and what tools you should have in the trunk of your car when you are out looking for deals by driving for dollars (including bandit signs).
Incorporate driving for dollars and utilize bird dogs by giving them access to your apps to make sure you are maximizing your opportunity to find wholesale deals in your market.
Make sure you listen to the previous podcast episode that I did yesterday on becoming a bird dog (property locator).

On this podcast episode I talk about how to get started as a property locator or bird dog for other real estate investors.
I share my story of how I got started as a bird dog working for my mentor Ben, and why being a property locator for another real estate investor is one of the best ways to learn about investing in real estate.
Learning how to find and evaluate deals is the most important piece of the real estate business. And it is the one piece that eludes most new real estate investors since they never put the time into learning how to do this.
If you can find good wholesale deals then you can wholesale these houses to other investors, you can fix and flip these houses, or you can keep them as rental properties. The most important thing is learning how to find good wholesale deals at wholesale prices. And one of the best ways to learn this is by being a bird dog or property locator for another real estate investor. That way you risk their money and not yours. And you don't need to risk your cash (or your credit) while you learn. That is why we call our Home Study Course "Millions in Real Estate With No Cash and No Credit" since the goal is to buy real estate with other people's money without risking your cash or your credit.
Our bird dog training program (Partnership Program) trains hundreds of new investors every year and we have trained over 3,000 new real estate investors how to become property locators at our Wholesaling Real Estate Boot Camp which is held twice a year in South Florida. We also hold a Fixing and Flipping Houses Boot Camp twice a year in South Florida.
Once you know how to find and evaluate deals, selling the houses is easy. The only thing stopping you from being a full time wholesaler once you know how to locate deals is having a cash buyers list (which you should be building from day one).

On this podcast episode I talk about financial freedom and how to structure your life in a way that you can slowly move towards being financially free.
Financial freedom means having the time and financial resources to be able to do what you want and whenever you want to do it. That means by definition that you will not achieve financial freedom by working hard at your job.
You will achieve financial freedom by learning how to invest in real estate. And one of the easiest ways to do this is by buying rental properties at 80% or less of their fair market value since you are effectively buying these properties with no money down.

“Stop thinking and start doing! Fear and self doubt come when you’re thinking, not when you’re doing.” - Adi Arezzini Adi Arezzini is co-founder and CEO of Teami, a lifestyle brand centered around using all-natural, plant-based ingredients - like premium loose-leaf teas - to help customers live happier, healthier lives. Teami’s product line ranges from wellness blends to tea-infused skincare. From a young age, Adi was taught the benefits of holistic health and plant-based eating by her health-conscious mother. At 19, Adi served as a combat trainer for the Israel Defense Force, and later, after returning home to Florida, qualified as a National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM) certified personal trainer. After years of life in the army barracks, Adi realized her gut wasn’t functioning properly, due to a lack of access to quality nutrition. Despite trying different diets, supplements and more, nothing seemed to help with her lagging digestive system, inability to go to the bathroom and painful bloating. Soon Adi began experimenting with loose leaf tea blends as a natural remedy. These high quality teas Adi made uncovered the root of her problem: an excess of toxins built up in her digestive tract. After realizing her “secret sauce” blend also solved similar digestion issues with her friends, Adi saw the potential and began looking to different varieties of tea to combat other common issues: fatigue, depleted immune system, stress and insomnia. Researching, creating, blending and sourcing these teas wasn’t just a passion for Adi, it because her purpose and, soon, her expertise. At just 23, Adi created Teami in her mother’s bedroom. She saw Teami as a way to help people becom ehealthier and happier, with teas to solve everyday issues. Today, Adi has since grown the lifestyle tea brand to include tea-infused beauty oils and green tea mask + scrub. Teami is quickly outgrowing their 13,000 square foot office-warehouse hybrid located in Seminole, Florida and is sold nationally at Ulta Beauty, Urban Outfitters, Anthropologie, Vitamin World, Riley Rose and more as well as online at www.teamiblends.com We explore these hot topics! What is word stress?
In English, every word is made up of “parts” or what is technically called “syllables”. we do not say each syllable with the same force or strength. In one word, we stress ONE syllable. We say one syllable very loudly (big, strong, important) and all the other syllables very quietly.
Let's take 3 words: photograph, photographer and photographic. Do they sound the same when spoken? No. Because we accentuate (stress) ONE syllable in each word. And it is not always the same syllable. So the "shape" of each word is different
Why is Word Stress Important?
You might think that as long as you can communicate with English speakers (and you are probably already able to do so), it is not necessary to know which syllable should be stressed. However, word stress is an important part of speech. Here are some reasons why:
Native speakers rely on stress to process what they hear and use it to identify words. Word stress affects the sounds of the vowels in the word. Learners who know where to stress words are more confident in speaking and reading English. Miscommunication between non-native speakers and native speakers of English can be the result of incorrect word stress patterns by the non-native speakers. Knowing about word stress helps learners to identify words when listening. Knowing the stress pattern of words can help you remember the pronunciation of new words. Knowing stress rules will help you pronounce new words that you come across. Once you know which syllable to stress in a word, it will be much easier to apply vowel reductions. So, how do I know where to stress and where not to in a word?
That’s an interesting question, here are two very simple rules about word stress:
One word has only one stress. (One word cannot have two stresses. If you hear two stresses, you hear two words. Two stresses cannot be one word. It is true that there can be a "secondary" stress in some words. But a secondary stress is much smaller than the main [primary] stress, and is only used in long words.)
We can only stress vowels, not consonants.
Here are some more, rather complicated, rules that can help you understand where to put the stress. But do not rely on them too much, because there are many exceptions. It is better to try to "feel" the music of the language and to add the stress naturally

I want to speak like a brit, is it easy?
Speaking with a British accent can be one of the easiest things to do as our accent is closest to theirs.
How can I speak like a Brit?
You need to Master 4 Sounds to Speak with a British accent.
Shall we have a look?
Here are a few aspects to look at:
While in American English the “u” is often pronounced as oo, in British English it is pronounced more as ew with an emphasis on the last letter.
For example:
The word “tune” is pronounced as “tewn” in British English and “toon” in American English or the word “duty” would be pronounced as “Dewty” unlike American English where it would sound more like “Doody.”
Try to practice a few:
Tune Duty Stupid Tongue twister: Luke stewed while he cooked a stew.
2. The -A’s
In standard British English the sound of the “A’s” is distinctly an “ah” sound like that of the word “car” or rather “cahr”.
Let’s practice a few:
plant, can’t, bath, glass path Tongue twister: Andrea and Andrew ate eight acid apples accidentally
In the standard British accent it is uncommon to pronounce the final “r” of most words, rather it is left open at the end. Some examples would be:
Chair-Ch-eh Cover-Cov-ah Father-Fa-tha Rather-Ra-tha Tongue twister: Father, mother, brother, sister, hand-in-hand go together.
4. Finally, the T’s
“T’s” are very under-pronounced in American English and often even take the sound of the letter “d” like “wadder”-water. If you want to really impress a British English speaker it would be a good idea to always pronounce your “t’s” properly both at the beginning, middle and end of a word.
Try practicing some of these with the open ending but a pronounced “T”.
Water Waiter Winter Titanium Tongue twister: Tea for the thin twin tinsmith
On today’s episode Hilary sits down with Tiffany Pham, the Founder & CEO of Mogul, an award-winning worldwide platform enabling women to connect, share information, and access knowledge from each other. A coder, she developed the first version of Mogul, which now reaches 18 million women per week from over 196 countries and 30,470 cities worldwide.
As the founder of Mogul—praised by Sheryl Sandberg as the #1 millennial platform—Tiffany Pham created a global technology and media empire by the age of 27. As living proof that the old rules of success no longer apply, Tiffany writes the new rules for following your passions and forging your own path in an age of disruption.
Traditionally, the word “mogul” has been attributed to men. But Tiffany Pham has redefined it—now, when you Google the word, the top search result is the company she founded: Mogul. The platform enables millions of women, across 196 countries, to connect, share information, and access knowledge.
So how did a young woman—who arrived in the United States without speaking a word of English—turn a dream of connecting women into a fulfilling career and a highly profitable company that has changed so many lives?

I want to speak like an American, is it easy?
Speaking with an American accent can be hard for many reasons but the biggest challenge for some English learners is because certain sounds in Spoken American English are not found in other languages (and vice versa). For us Indians, we need to master certain sounds that Americans have that we don't have. (Because our accent is closer to the British accent.
How can I speak like an American?
You need to Master 5 Sounds to Speak with an American Accent:
This is the most important sound that makes the difference between American and British Accents. All the Rs must be rolled.. for this, you need to keep the tongue back. Do not let your tongue touch inside your mouth. Round your lips and push forward.
Examples:
Ride, Rabbit, Hard, Fire, Carol
Tongue twister challenge: Ryan rode the railway to Romania and meet Reese and Rowan in Rome.
We usually make a softer T... the Americans make it sound like a TH.. or the Hindi ?
Examples:
Tree, Team, Tom, Twelve, Tray, Tame
Tongue twister challenge: Terry and Tom told Tim they want to try twelve trays of tea
Put your lips together firmly, stop the air completely, then pop the lips open. Not a vocal sound.
Examples:
Pot, Peter, Pay, Play, Help, Apple
Tongue twister challenge: Peter wanted to help Patty make the apple pie so he put the pot on the stove top.
Touch the palate with the sides of the tongue and release the air slowly through the passageway formed down the center of the tongue. This is NOT a sound made with your voice.
Examples:
Sugar, Sure, Mention, Chef, Chicago, Ocean
Tongue twister challenge: She wished she had mentioned about the shoes to the chef
5. The sound /K/ /C/
Bring the back of the tongue to the velum, stop the air completely and then release with a voiceless sound.
Examples:
Cat, Clean, Crazy, Kettle, Kean
Tongue twister challenge: The crazy cat cleaned the kettle and made a cup of caramel coffee.
What is an accent?
An accent is a way a person or a group puts emphasis on different parts of a word. It also refers to the rhythm with which a person or a group speaks ANY language. It can also refer to the speed at which a person speaks
So how many types of accents are there?
Well, there are a lot. There are a large array of different accents within primarily English speaking countries, like the US and England, and there are a large array of foreign English accents.
Can I learn an accent?
ABSOLUTELY.... The ability to learn accents and different dialects take training, patience and voice talent. As many people say, the best way to learn a foreign accent or dialect is to speak it. ... One of the hardest things to learn in the voice acting business is speaking in other accents.
Right technique
How do I go about understanding people from the US?
It’s quite easy, we are exposed to US accent everytime we watch an English movie... here are some tips:
So today’s episode you’ll learn how to understand fast spoken English. Let’s go!
UNDERSTAND REDUCTIONS IN ENGLISH SPEAKING Americans reduce a lot of sounds when they speak. For example, you read “Don’t you want to get a coffee later?”
Then we squish it all together when we speak, and it becomes /Duhwntchuh wanna gedduh coffee layder?/ We reduce “don’t you” to /duhwntchuh/, “want to” becomes /wanna/ and “get a” becomes /gedduh/.
You have to notice these to start understanding real English. To help you, I created an American Accent Survival Kitthat gives you audio exercises for 12 everyday expressions. Go get it! Seriously. And it’s free!
DON’T DEPEND ON SLOW ENGLISH If you want to understand the way Americans really speak, you have to listen to real spoken English. A lot of books to study English give you audio that is slow, or clearly articulated. In the real world, it’s not like that. I’m sure you’ve noticed!
So you need to also study English the way it’s really spoken. My video series “Tame The Hot Potato” helps you do that. For each video, you can get a worksheet to help you understand our everyday conversations in real spoken English.
KEEP ON PRACTICING YOUR ENGLISH How many of you depend on television series and movies to improve your English comprehension? I know you do. TV is good and fun, but it’s not enough. You have to consciously work. Study. Do listening exercises
The site elllo.org is one of my favorites for this, plus you can watch this video for an idea on how to use the site to improve your listening skills. And there’s also this lesson and this lesson where you can do some exercises.
PRACTICE THE “AUDIO FLOOD” If you’re thinking “Vishaal” I don’t even understand ‘audio flood’!”, let me explain. A flood is like when it rains a lot, a lot, a lot, and there’s a lot of water everywhere. In the streets, the houses. That’s a flood.
You have to flood your brain with audio in English. This is where movies and TV series are useful. You can also listen to American radio stations with the smartphone app TuneIn Radio.
Or listen to podcasts in English. My favorite for learning English is All Ears English because it’s English lessons but in real spoken English.
PRACTICE YOUR ACTIVE VS PASSIVE LISTENING You see, there’s a difference between active and passive listening. And you need both. Most students have too much passive listening and that’s why their comprehension improves slowly.
You have learned a few activities earlier, and here’s one more active listening activities that will boost your comprehension AND your pronunciation:
Shadow reading. Here’s how you do shadow reading.
Get the transcript of the audio you listen to. For example, on elllo. You have the transcript of each audio on the site. As you listen, you read with the speaker. Not listen and repeat. You match the speaker’s speed, intonation, everything. It’s that simple! This makes you more conscious of how the words sound when they’re spoken at normal “American” speed.
And what is the British accent easier to understand?
Well, when a person says “British accent” often we may get confused, as the British accent on it’s own doesn’t exist; remember that Britain consists of England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, all of which have distinct English speaking accents.
What we are going to focus on today is the typical standard British accent or rather something closer to the “Queen’s English”.
Now let’ talk about the Australian accent, how is that different?
So, I have heard visitors to Australia often remark about the difficulty in understanding the language. People from non-English speaking backgrounds who may have had the chance to study English at home still struggle to comprehend the Aussie vernacular and accent. Even Those from English-speaking countries such as the USA and England even find things difficult on occasion.
Why is it so difficult to understand Australian Accent?
When it comes to understanding the Australian accent, it’s useful to point out that not all Australians speak exactly the same way. But unlike other countries, where accents vary slightly depending on the part of the country from which someone comes, in Australia accents are more likely to differ based on class factors. Two people living in the city on opposite sides of the country — say, Sydney and Perth — might sound exactly the same, despite the distance. However, someone from the rural areas of Victoria is likely to sound different to someone coming from it’s capital, Melbourne.
Australian accents can be split into three categories — broad, general and cultivated. Broad accents are generally used by rural Australians and can be likened to the exaggerated accents people like Paul Hogan and Steve Irwin presented to the world. General accents are the most common and are most likely to be used in metropolitan areas; Aussies like Hugh Jackman or Jennifer Hawkins employ this kind of accent. Finally, there’s the cultivated Australian accent, which has more similarities to British English and can be heard by the likes of Geoffrey Rush and Judy Davis
So how do we go about understanding the Australian Accent?
One of the most common habits of Australian language is the tendency for speakers to run words into each other. While most Australians will avoid this when speaking one on one with someone from another country, if a foreigner finds themselves in a mixing in a group of most Australians, they often find the conversation hard to follow. In some cases, Australians will leave off certain syllables altogether; the suffix “ing”, for example. “I’m going to the football tonight”, then, may become “I’m go’n the football tonight” when many Australians are speaking in their local dialect.
Any difference in words in Australian English?
Australians also have a tendency to avoid pronouncing the “R” at the end of words. For example, a word like “bar” will be pronounced “ba” and a word like “doctor” will be pronounced “docta”. They also often shorten common words by taking the first syllable and adding a vowel. “Afternoon” will become “arvo”, service station will become “servo”, barbecue will become “barbie” and breakfast will become “brekky”. This is also commonly done with people’s names; somebody with the surname “McDonald” will probably become “Macca”, and someone with the surname “Roberts” will generally become “Robbo”.
You may also notice Australians use terms that you recognize in a way you may not be familiar with. Take the term “heaps”, for example, which is used in place of “really”. Something that is “really good” will be “heaps good”, or someone who is really sick will be described as “heaps sick”. Although we should point out, sick doesn’t necessarily mean “ill”, either — in Australia it could mean “great”! Yep, we’re a confusing bunch.
Finally, one final thing to note is that Australians have a habit of answering a question with a double negative. “Not bad” is a common response to the question “how are you”. If an Australian agrees with something you’ve said, they may say, “You’re not wrong.” Or perhaps they think something is nice, or good — they might say that it’s “not too shabby.
Listen to interviews of popular Australian Hollywood actors on youtube, actors like Nicole Kidman, Chris Hemsworth (He acts in the Avenger's movies as Thor), Hugh Jackman or watch Australian shows like Home and Away and Packed to the Rafters.

How to remove MTI?
There are certain sounds that we must practice in order to remove our MTI.
As mentioned earlier, we need to identify from where we come in order to understand which part of MTI we need to remove.
Let’s look at the most common sound errors:
If we are from North Or West India, we have a problem with the S and SH sound The S is pronounced as the ? in Hindi and The SH is Pronounced as the ?. Before we move on to words, we MUST practice the sounds.
In order to make the S sound, We must place the tongue flat on the roof of the mouth, stretch your lips like you are smiling and let the air out and say Ssssssss…..Ssssssssss
For the SH sound, we have to place the tongue flat on the roof of the mouth, ROUND your lips and say Shhhhh…Shhhh….
Now practice both sounds
S, Sh, S, Sh, S, Sh, S, Sh,
Now move on to words, here is a tongue twister:
She Sells Sea Shells on the sea shore.
You must first practice only the S and Sh sounds slowly first and then quicker, then try the Tongue twister one word at a time
People from East India, mostly have a V and W pronunciation issue. To pronounce the “V”, place your bottom lip lightly under the top teeth and say “V”. Do NOT round your lips. Again V Try this tongue twister: Vincent Vowed Vengeance Very Vehemently
To pronounce the “W” sound, round your lips and push the air out, and say Wh.. Again Wh
Try this tongue Twister:
Whether the weather is cool. Whether the weather is hot.
We will enjoy the weather. Whatever the weather be
People from South India mostly have a speed issue. The first thing is for us to speak slowly. As Indians, we speak at approximately 130 words per minute. The reason for this is that our Mother Tongues are spoken very fast and since a young age, we are used to hearing and understanding that speed.
Here is an exercise to slow down:
Choose a text that is approximately 75-200 words long. Pick something that you think you can read easily, such as a book from one of your English classes, or even a newspaper. Now, Read the passage and time yourself. See how long it took you to read the passage. Read the same passage again, but Add 15 seconds to your time... For Example, If it takes you 3 minutes the first time, the same passage should take you 3 minutes 15 seconds. Read the same passage again, add another 15 seconds. So, the passage that took you 3 minutes should take you 3 minutes 30 seconds. There are other sounds that we need to practice. The table below can help. Follow the instructions.

Doesn’t it feel amazing to dream about the future?
You might dream about the big successful business you’ve created, the $100,000 you’re making each yeah, the awesome employees who work on your team, and a life that’s full of fun, excitement, and vacation to tropical islands every now and again.
The dream is often what keeps us alive as entrepreneurs.
But as Mark Manson would say, “What kind of $hit sandwich do you want?” because that dream is going to come with some $hit sandwiches.
There will be challenges in the pursuit of your goals. Sometimes those challenges will feel like insurmountable odds. There may be blood, sweat, and tears. There may wild peaks & valleys in your finances. There may be moments when you want to shut the whole business down & run away to South America.
So what gives?! Let’s talk it out on this week’s episode.
