Police say a major investigation is now underway into a deepening gangland feud in Edinburgh. Over the last two weeks, shots have been fired at two houses and a Range Rover. There have been shootings, threats and intimidation - all in and around Gilmerton. It began on September 9th when shots were fired at a house on Fernieside Avenue, in the Moredun area. Then over the weekend, a gunman on a motorbike opened fire on a Range Rover in The Murray's Brae, Gilmerton, and what's believed to have been a fake bomb was left at the scene. Soon afterwards there was gunfire on Gilmerton Dykes Drive and another suspicious device was left at Walter Scott Avenue. Officers believe the answers to their investigation lie within the local community. Detective Superintendent David Gordon tells Forth News reporter Bryan Rutherford that the Organised Crime Unit has launched a major investigation.

A man who died after being found seriously injured in an Edinburgh street may have been attacked following an argument over a game of pool. Thomas Lamb, 46, was found by residents in Restalrig Circus at about 1am on Saturday after police were called to a disturbance in the street. The Church of Scotland is calling for unity after 55-per-cent of us voted 'No' to independence. The Moderator of the General Assembly is leading a public service at St Giles' Cathedral on Sunday. The Right Reverend John Chalmers tells Forth News reporter that we must begin to stop thinking about "them and us".
Midlothian has voted 'No' to Scottish independence 56.3 per cent, to 43.7 per cent. The ballots of 60,396 voters have been counted overnight after a turnout of 86.8 per cent. It's understood that a majority of voters in all six wards backed a No vote, according to Midlothian's Labour MP David Hamilton. He told Referendum Live: "With 50 odd per-cent of the population that work in Edinburgh, and most of them work in Standard Life, The Royal Bank of Scotland, Scottish Widows - it would be unexplainable to me how people in Midlothian would vote the other way. " After this result there will be a lot of disappointed people, but what we need to do as politicians is start to calm things down. Families have fallen out; husbands and wives have fallen out; mothers, daughters, and sons have fallen out. What we've got to do is to try to make sure that life goes on." But the MSP for Midlothian South, Tweeddale and Lauderdale - Christine Grahame from the SNP - says even if Better Together wins the referendum overall, change should be inevitable: "Something has to change from West Minister and it's got to be pretty big. If we have nearly 50-per-cent voting for Yes, then even if it isn't enough to take us to independence, it will never be the same again." Reporter Bryan Rutherford was at the ballot count in Bonnyrigg as Midlothian Council declared the result.
Here in Midlothian 69,613 people were able to cast a vote today. Of that number 86.8 per-cent or 60,396 people turned up at Polling Stations. Those ballot papers are now being counted here in Bonnyrigg. David Hamilton is the Labour Party and Better Together MP for Midlothian.
