THISMATTERS: Conversations On COVID-19 is a conversation series between our CEO Erica Chidi Cohen and California OBGYN Dr. Erica Cahill, about the sexual and reproductive health issues being facing us as the pandemic unfolds.
Black women are 243% more likely than white women to die during or shortly after childbirth in America due to the effects of structural racism that exists in our healthcare system and our society. Now, COVID-19 is creating new obstacles. Our last episode of #THISMATTERS which was recorded during Black Maternal Health Week back in April 2020, features two interviews. In the first, LOOM CEO Erica Chidi and OBGYN and policy expert Dr. Joia Crear-Perry discuss how racism impacts a Black women's care, what they can do to support themselves and how the collective can care for Black women during this uncertain time. The second interview is with the @natalstories team and dives further into the obstacles of birth and parenting while Black in 2020. Music by Strange Parts.
