Cinema Blend "Every Christmas the same old debates come out to play. Was Ebenezer Scrooge really changed? Did Mrs. Deagle really deserve to die at the hands of Gremlins? Does fruitcake count as a war crime? But one of the greatest debates is over what sort of film constitutes as a “Christmas Movie,” and both Die Hard and Lethal Weapon have been put through that particular wringer one too many times. So let’s settle this all with one simple equation, which if it doesn’t pass muster, should settle the debate for good: If Die Hard is a Christmas movie, that means Lethal Weapon is too."
I go over that whole idea.

From PerthNow "Opposition Treasury spokesman Jim Chalmers slammed the $16bn figure, which is up from $1.5bn in last year’s MYEFO.
He said the budget update “does absolutely nothing to crack down on rorts” and ignored the issues around stagnant wages.
“If anything this actually doubles down on the rorts and waste in the budget,” he said.
“This is a mid-year budget update which has got lots of complacency, lots of self-congratulation but nothing in terms of a plan for wages or job insecurity or skills shortages or the other issues and challenges in our economy.”
So in this show, I go over some real concerns for the Australian economy in 2022.

Its been reported that, "Tens of millions of migrants may be denied COVID-19 vaccines from a global programme because some major manufacturers are worried about legal risks from harmful side effects, according to officials and internal documents from Gavi, the charity operating the programme, reviewed by Reuters.
"Nearly two years into a pandemic that has already killed more than 5 million people, only about 7% of people in low-income countries have received a dose. Vaccine deliveries worldwide have been delayed by production problems, hoarding by rich countries, export restrictions and red tape. "
In this video, I discuss that..

The Deni Pastrol Times wrote "Overnight, the state government agreed to six amendments after securing a vote on the bill from Mr Barton. The amendments include the creation of a cross-parliamentary committee as soon as practicable after a pandemic declaration is made, the committee can also recommend the disallowance of pandemic orders. Parliament will be able to disallow pandemic orders by an absolute majority in a joint sitting of both houses, under the changes."
Will these ammendments curtail potential abuse. Honestly, as its still being worked on, I don't know.

Victoria's Pandemic Powers Bill is in disarray.
As Sky News reported, "Former Labor cabinet minister Adem Somyurek has remained defiant in his opposition to the controversial pandemic powers bill after the Andrews Government successfully delayed a vote in the upper house.
The Labor Government moved a motion on Thursday to delay the debate to secure Premier Daniel Andrews more time to pick off only one more cross bencher after Mr Somyurek revealed he would block the legislation.
With the Andrews Government now scrambling to negotiate an additional vote before Parliament sits again in two weeks, Mr Somyurek said he could not be “bought off”.
“I’m probably the only MP in this place that cannot be bought off,” he told reporters on Friday.
“I’m not going to stand again so nobody can buy me off.” Mr Somyurek, who successfully applied to have his suspension lifted on Wednesday after he was banned for failing to disclose his vaccination status, told the Herald Sun his intention to block passage of the bill.
The president of the Victorian Bar previously slammed that new pandemic legislation (https://www.legislation.vic.gov.au/bills/public-health-and-wellbeing-amendment-pandemic-management-bill-2021) as “appalling” and claims the government “grossly misrepresented” its consultation with the barristers’ peak body.
Christopher Blanden, QC, said the new laws, designed to replace sweeping state of emergency powers, would give the Premier unprecedented power with little to no checks and balances.
And now they are in limbo.

The Age wrote "On the weekend, thousands of Victorians took to the streets furious with the proposed legislation that will ultimately deliver more accountability and scrutiny and improve a broken system.
"As it stands, Victoria’s chief health officer is given extraordinary powers to detain people, restrict their movement and prevent anyone from entering the state the moment a state of emergency has been declared."
And from the Spectator "Civil liberties have never been Dan’s strong suit as we all discovered during the darkest days of the lockdown. Now he’s got the lawyers up in arms over the Bill, with calls for significant changes being made by the Victorian Bar, the Law Institute, the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission, the State Opposition and many others besides. Rich listers have even taken to paid advertising to express their anger at Andrews’ idiotic play for more power."
"Is it any wonder? Under the legislation, the premier (in consultation with the unelected chief health officer) would have the power to make a pandemic declaration and to extend it in three-month blocks for as long as the two of them felt it necessary. "
"Additionally, the Bill gives more power to the Health Minister and would bestow on the government (read Andrews) the right to restrict movement, ban public gatherings, close businesses and issue quarantine orders without consultation. "

Showgirls Bar 20 has issued an open letter to Fiona Patten. The ask, "Kill the Bill".
It was said in parliament, that the president of the Victorian Bar Council, Christopher Blanden, QC, this afternoon has said this. The Andrews government’s draconian pandemic legislation is so bad that Mr Blanden has said: If the Stasi had these powers, they would still be in force. The Stasi—referring to the East German secret police.
He said: Once a declaration is made, the health minister is given the extraordinary power to make an order necessary to protect public health, including the power to order detention, restriction of movement ... They can be enforced and punishable if you breach them by imprisonment for an unspecified period of time, effectively at the whim of the minister ... And then they’ve got this bizarre system where the only way you can challenge that is by making an application for review to someone called a detention review officer ... not to the courts.
hat is absolutely true.
Clause 165B provides: The pandemic management order powers are as follows— ... to detain a person in a pandemic management area in accordance with a pandemic order that requires the detention of the person (including a pandemic order that requires that the detention of a person be extended).
For the avoidance of doubt, clause 165BE provides: Requirement to isolate or quarantine not of itself detention So for those of you who were thinking that this is simply requiring returned travellers or the like to quarantine at home, be in no doubt: you are under arrest. These provisions relate to the arbitrary arrest of Australian citizens on their home soil. Arbitrary arrest—that is what we are talking about. That is the magnitude of these provisions.
This truly is a scary time for our democracy.

The Atlantic raised some serious questions about liberty in Australia. How long can a democracy maintain emergency restrictions and still call itself a free country? This should be a hot topic right now, given the risks to Human Rights playing out right now.
The ABC ran an article going over just some of the violations, which include from the Charter of Human Rights and Responsibilities Act 2006 (Vic):
Section 10(c) states that a person must not be subjected to medical treatment without his or her full, free, and informed consent.
Section 12 states that every person lawfully within Victoria has the right to move freely within Victoria and to enter and leave it, and has the freedom to choose where to live.
Section 13 states that a person has the right not to have his or her privacy unlawfully or arbitrarily interfered with.
Section 14 states that every person has the right to freedom of thought, conscience, religion, and belief, and that a person must not be coerced or restrained in a way that limits his or her freedom to have or adopt a religion or belief in observance or practice.
What we are seeing play out right now, could very well change the nature of my community for many years to come. Surely its time for a frank and robust debate about what this future looks like.

We've been told for months now that the Government follows the health advice, the science, the experts. Yet the head of the Burnet Institute said they didn't rcommend mandates, despite being named as a source for the mandates Daniel Andrews announced..

In this episode I go over why I feel our politicians, Daniel Andrews in particular, has not earned our trust. As well as possible implications of thedirection we are heading in. This was highlighted recently with Mr Andrews suggesting the promise of an additional 4000 ICU beds was never made, despite video of the promise on 1 April 2020.
Simply put, the powers that be have made a lot of ordinary decisions over the ast 18 months, and its the average person that pays.

There were two stories, if not more, that should give my country some pause for thought. Dogs that were put down due to virus concerns, and that Families separated by a border, spent Fathers Day catching up at that border.
Despite that, and despite concerns from the World Health Organisation and Amensity International, Australia is going down the path of Vaccine Passports. These Apps, connected to smart phones and QR codes apparently, are the ticket to getting our (currently held to ransom) freedoms back. But I have to wonder, why should we trust our government with this, gven their not so great record with information technology.

The United Kingdom's Parliament held President Joe Biden in contempt for his withdrawal of American troops from Afghanistan, calling the move "catastrophic" and "shameful."
Members of the UK Parliament accused Biden of "throwing us and everybody else to the fire" with his decision to withdraw. Further saying Biden was "dishonourable" to blame Afghanistan's fighting force for the Taliban's takeover.
This withdrawal has been described by some as one of the worst actions by a US president since World War II. In my view there is no doubt that Biden has heralded a much more dangerous world.

The Guardian wrote "What will it take for Joe Biden to admit he is disastrously wrong about Afghanistan? The US leader struck a defiant pose last week. Sounding like a slightly desperate Olympics coach, he told Afghans it was their country. If they want it, they have to fight for it. In American politics-speak, this is called tough love. Without the love.
"Biden has more hands-on foreign policy experience than any president since George HW Bush. That doesn’t mean he knows what he’s doing. Opinion polls suggest his abrupt Afghan withdrawal has majority public support. That doesn’t mean Americans will remain indifferent as the carnage and misery mount." https://www.theguardian.com/commentisfree/2021/aug/15/afghanistan-will-be-seen-as-joe-bidens-defeat-and-it-may-come-back-to-haunt-him

Australia’s top security agencies have shone a light on a major cyber security attack attributed to China for the first time.
Earlier this month, Australia joined the US, UK and the EU to attribute an attack on Microsoft Exchange servers to China.
Addressing a parliamentary inquiry on Thursday, Australian Signals Directorate boss Rachel Noble said Beijing had crossed a line. “What happened … To describe it in plain language, it would be like houses and buildings had 14 locks on the doors. When the Chinese government became aware of those faulty locks on the doors, they went in and they propped all those doors open,” she said. “What then happened was there was an opportunity for all sorts of criminals, other state actors, you name it, to pour in behind all those propped open doors.”
“It was that action, from a technical point of view, crossed a line.”
With how Biden was talking recently, this could lead to very serious responses.

Australia's $90 Billion contract for 12 French Sub's has long been called folly, that the vessels themselves will be obsolete the day they enter service. Defence secretary Greg Moriarty has recently confirmed his department is looking at alternatives to the French-designed submarines in case the troubled contract is sunk. Moriarty would not reveal what fallback options were being explored but described the process as “prudent contingency planning”.

President Bidens well known for Gaffees and fumbles. Confusing Libya and Syria, tripping up the stairs, and calling Kamala Harris 'president', Biden's made numerous gaffes over the years .
Speaking to Fox News, Donald Trump's former doctor Ronny Jackson said it was vital that President Joe Biden gets a cognitive test to prove he is up to the job. Following numerous "gaffes" and verbal slip-ups since becoming president, Mr Jackson said he wants President Biden to get tested, just like Donald Trump, who agreed to take the Montreal Cognitive Assessment (MoCA) to check for cognitive impairment a year into his presidency. His comments come as 13 other Republican lawmakers are also calling on Biden to take such a test and release the results.

The Point Cook Community Hospital will be a small public hospital providing a range of day hospital and primary health care services. The project will help take pressure off nearby major hospitals, including Footscray and Sunshine hospitals, and enable more people to manage their health needs closer to home. Strong links to specialists, community health providers and social support services will ensure more seamless follow-up treatment and support for those who require complex care.
I still think its not what people are expecting, especially when they hear the word "Hospital".

For almost three years, the AFP and the FBI have monitored criminals’ encrypted communications over a Dedicated Encrypted Communications Platform. Ms Vicki Ward, State Labor's member for Eltham said in 2018, "There is plenty of evidence, though — it may not be consistent, but there is evidence. There is study after study after study that explains why this chemical causes so many problems in people and especially in babies. The Royal Australasian College of Physicians has called on the federal government for years to ban all firefighting foams with PFAS. I would take one step further — I would ban it altogether. The latest international evidence includes information from Germany, England and the United States that PFAS contamination has been linked to cancer, thyroid disease, infertility issues and lower response rates to vaccines from children because it suppresses the immune system."

Biden's America is starting to look weak on the international stage. Just recently, diplomats from the U.S. and China had a public blowup in front of reporters last Thursday at a meeting in Alaska to discuss policy and attempt to restore ties. The heated on-camera exchanges were a clear departure from the light pleasantries traditionally offered before diplomatic discussions.
USA diplomats lambasted China for violating international norms through their crackdown on Uyghurs and other minorities in Xinjiang, cyber attacks against the U.S. and “economic coercion.” They also said, “We do not seek conflict but we welcome stiff competition, and we will always stand up for our principles for our people, and for our friends.”
China’s Yang Jiechi replied with a lengthy lecture against the U.S. that went on for so long the subsequent translation took 17 minutes. According to a senior official, there had been an agreement that each side would speak for two minutes at a photo opportunity before the session began.

If you have not seen it yet, the Australian Government announced it will halve the price of almost 800,000 air-travel fares as part of a $1.2 billion packagetrying to getting more Aussies to spend up on domestic holidays.
But there's a catch, the discount on tickets will or flights to and from a handful of regions that normally rely heavily on overseas visitors (something not happening with the covid-19 travel bans in place). That means, many other locations are out in the cold. This comes at a massive time of uncertainty, as the Jobkeeper program is coming to an end.

I can't believe there is a movement suggesting Maths is racist. Yet thats what this episode goes in to bat against.
From Newsweek "An effort to portray traditional styles of teaching math as being non-inclusive is gaining steam, in part courtesy of the billionaire co-founder of Microsoft—as is mockery of the effort. The latest example of the latter is a screenshot of the Equitable Math curriculum that is supported with a $1 million grant from the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation to The Education Trust Inc."
"The screenshot making the rounds on Twitter is an image of the EquitableMath.org website that begins with: "White supremacy culture shows up in math classrooms when... The focus is on getting the 'right' answer."

CONTENT WARNING: This episode is not for the faint hearted. In it I discuss some very heavy stuff coming out of Canbera. As a victim myself, its tough to discuss. But the last few weeks have seen terrible stuff, with people playing politics instead of putting faith in, and respecting, our justice system (and I say that as a person denied justice). My biggest piece of advice, use and exhaust our justice system first and foremost.

A live-action “G.I. Joe” TV series centered on Lady Jaye is in the works at Amazon. The series is being produced by Paramount Television Studios, eOne and Skydance Television. “Carnival Row” showrunner Erik Oleson will create and showrun the series.
The series will be a standalone story around Lady Jaye, with connections into the wider “G.I. Joe” world. Lady Jaye is an undercover operative that was first introduced in the 1984 cartoon TV series.
I have asuggestion for Amazon Studios, hire Gina Carano. Her star is rising, even hitting #1 on IMDB. Cast her as Lady Jaye.

President Joe Biden describes the abuse of people as ‘different cultural norms’.
To be more precise, from News.com.au, Joe Biden appeared to downplay China’s horrible record against Uighur Muslims, saying “culturally there are different norms” in every country. He made these comments during a CNN town hall on Tuesday night, where he was asked about his recent conversation with Chinese President Xi Jinping.
In that conversation, the newly elected President reportedly pressed his counterpart over human rights abuses in Hong Kong and the northwestern Xinjiang province, where more than one million Uighur men and women have reportedly been detained in a sprawling network of “re-education” camps. Mr Biden answered by relaying Mr Xi’s justification for the abuses, saying the Chinese President “gets it”.
“You know, Chinese leaders, if you know anything about Chinese history, it has always been, the time when China has been victimised by the outer world is when they haven’t been unified at home,” he said.
I discuss this in tonights show, and ponder, given Hunter Biden's dealings, is this wishy-washy president what the world needs now given whats happening in the South China Seas.

Talk about a gutless act. IF Lucasfilm really had the strength of their convictions, then hiding behind social media to do the "firing" would not be needed. Yet that is what they reportedly did. \
According to various news sites, "Gina Carano just revealed that she found out at the same time “as everyone else” that she had been fired from The Mandalorian. The actress claims that she discovered the news via social media, and not from anyone at Disney, which owns the Star Wars franchise. Gina, 38, was removed from the Disney+ show after a post on her Instagram account .."

The Age reported "Soil being dug up in the heart of Melbourne to build the $6.7 billion West Gate Tunnel has PFAS levels that are 100 times the acceptable amount in drinking water, but this was never disclosed to the public, internal documents from the environmental watchdog reveal. In the first official confirmation of high levels of PFAS on the project, secret Environment Protection Authority documents seen by The Sunday Age show soil dug up along the West Gate Freeway has been classed as the second-highest level of hazardous waste.
Documents lodged in the Supreme Court on Thursday show the Moorabool community group has requested a judicial review of Planning Minister Richard Wynne’s decision to amend the Moorabool Planning Scheme, which would allow potentially millions of tonnes of PFAS-contaminated soil to be dumped at the Maddingley Brown Coal landfill in Bacchus Marsh."
In this show I give an update on the situation. A situation that could see cancer linked chemicals find their way into the food on your dinner plate.
According to MEG, the Minister bypassed community consultation in his decision, reasoning that all community concerns were addressed by an Environment Protection Authority (EPA) approval. But here’s the rub: In December, the environmental watchdog reversed its own approval to dump contaminated spoil from the West Gate Tunnel at Bacchus Marsh.
"The EPA conceded that its approval of this plan was unlawful and of no legal effect.” MEG said

So this week I finally got around to watching Star Wars episode 9, Rise of Skywalker. Yes, very late to the party, especially as I am a proud geek. After watching this film, and processing the mess I watched over a few days, I sat down and recorded my thoughts.
From Wikipedia - Star Wars: Episode IX – The Rise of Skywalker) is a 2019 American epic space opera film produced, co-written, and directed by J. J. Abrams. Produced by Lucasfilm and Abrams' production company Bad Robot Productions, and distributed by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, it is the third installment of the Star Wars sequel trilogy, following The Force Awakens (2015) and The Last Jedi (2017), and the final episode of the nine-part "Skywalker saga".[a] The film's ensemble cast includes Carrie Fisher,[b] Mark Hamill, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Anthony Daniels, Naomi Ackie, Domhnall Gleeson, Richard E. Grant, Lupita Nyong'o, Keri Russell, Joonas Suotamo, Kelly Marie Tran, Ian McDiarmid, and Billy Dee Williams. The Rise of Skywalker follows Rey, Finn, and Poe Dameron as they lead the Resistance's final stand against Supreme Leader Kylo Ren and the First Order, who are aided by the return of the deceased galactic emperor, Palpatine.

Following on from last weeks show, I discuss the first 100 days of Biden's Presidency, now that the Trump era is over. There are some signs of to worry about, as well as trying to actually find what the first 100 days will be. One thing will dominate, and that is the 2nd impeachment of Trump.
One American (Neer Dutta) wrote, "The Democrats have a short, two-year window to achieve many things because they will most likely lose at least one of the houses of Congress in 2022. Why waste even a single day on a futile impeachment trial?
Some argue that the benefit of impeaching and convicting Donald Trump is to prevent him from running for the presidency in 2024. To that I say, bring it on! If the Democrats achieve legislative success in the next four years, then they should dare the Republicans to put Trump on the presidential ballot again. The Democrats won’t just win, they will win “bigly!”

With guest Andrew Elsbury, we discuss the Democrats going after Trump again for a second Impeachment, why? He only has two weeks left in office.
CNN wrote "With less than two weeks until President-elect Joe Biden takes office, the nation is on edge -- unsure whether Trump will incite another round of violence or just carry on, petulantly, seeking outlets to whine about Twitter's decision to ban him. Recognizing the instability, Vice President Mike Pence has not ruled out an effort to invoke the 25th Amendment, a source close to the vice president has told CNN. The relationship between Trump and Pence is fractured -- they haven't spoken since Wednesday, when a violent mob stormed the Capitol, and the President never bothered to check on Pence's safety.
The insurrection put the country at a crossroads. If Pence doesn't move on the 25th Amendment, House Democrats are preparing to bring a new round of impeachment proceedings this week over Trump's role in inciting the deadly riot. If they go forward, Republicans could again be faced with a public test of their loyalty. That so few seem prepared to forcefully speak out, let alone pledge to take action against the President, suggests the Capitol siege is less likely to have marked the bloody end of Trumpism than the opening of a more dangerous chapter."
This at a time when the Democrats now have the Presidency, Senate and House...

Back in December, a leak revealed almost 2 million CCP members are working in business and governments across the globe.
Per IACS, "Among the companies mentioned in the list are manufacturers like Boeing and Volkswagen, pharmaceutical companies like Pfizer and AstraZeneca, and banks like ANZ and HSBC. As per the documents, around 600 people at HSBC, Standard Chartered banks are CCP members. Citibank, BNP Paribas, Hewlett-Packard, Mitsubishi, Ernst & Young, KPMG, Siemens, Ikea, Mercedes-Benz, Bank of America and other companies are also mentioned. One of the Indian companies, Tata’s Jaguar Land Rover has around 70 employees from the CCP."
Some of those businesses have access to payroll systems detailing personal info of many many workers and clients. Have they been assured that there is no risk to their data?
Note that these reports emphasized there is no evidence that spying for the Chinese government or other forms of cyber-espionage have taken place. News.com.au does say though - The CCP now has more than 92 million members worldwide. They are required to make an oath that puts the party’s interests above everything else and “be ready at all times to sacrifice my all for the party”.
In this episode I go over the overall news, and leave you to ponder...

The last council meeting here in Wyndham (Victoria Australia) had a bit of debate around a couple of items to do with the MAV and the VGLA. Who represents us and on if our city should use the membership it had paid for.
The Star Weekly wrote : “Taking that away tonight is the most egregious breach of trust and teamwork that anyone would ever have seen in a council, except for examples of where councils have ultimately led to their own demise,” Cr Gilligan said. After the council meeting, Cr Gilligan issued a statement which said the council was “deeply divided with the personal agendas of newly elected councillors triumphing over decisions that are in the best interests of the community”. He said the councillors’ conduct also “speaks to an emerging toxic culture within the council that must be externally investigated”.

In Dark Waters, a film based on a true story, Robert Bilott is a corporate defense lawyer from Ohio. Farmer Wilbur Tennant, who knows Robert's grandmother, asks him to investigate a number of unexplained animal deaths in Parkersburg, West Virginia.
Tennant connects the deaths to the chemical manufacturing corporation DuPont, and gives Robert a large case of videotapes. Robert visits the farm, where 190 cows have died with unusual medical conditions such as bloated organs and tumors. DuPont attorney Phil Donnelly tells him he is not aware of the case but will help out in any way he can. Robert files a small suit so he can gain information through legal discovery of the chemicals dumped on the site. When he finds nothing useful in the EPA report, he realizes the chemicals might not be regulated by the EPA.
DuPont sends Robert hundreds of boxes, hoping to bury the evidence. Robert finds numerous references to PFOA, a chemical with no references in any medical textbook. In the middle of the night, Robert's pregnant wife Sarah finds him tearing the carpet off the floors and going through their pans. He has discovered that PFOA is perfluorooctanoic acid, used to manufacture Teflon and used in American homes for nonstick pans. DuPont has been running tests of the effect of PFOA for decades, finding that it causes cancer and birth defects, but did not make the findings public. They dumped thousands of tons of toxic sludge in a landfill next to Tennant's farm. PFOA and similar compounds are forever chemicals, chemicals that do not leave the blood stream and slowly accumulate.
Is Werribee River, and all that depend upon it, about to suffer a similar fate?

Wyndham City Council elections have been calles, and our new local Councillors are declared. (Congratulations to all of you too). Seven women will represent Wyndham City for the next four years as part of the new Council, following the Declaration of Polls by the Victorian Electoral Commission this afternoon. The number of female councillors represents a record for Wyndham in the new 11-person Council. I go over that and what I think will be the biggest issue (aside from COVID) they will face, PFAS

The New York Post dropped a bomb on the USA presidential race this week, emails, photos and documents from Hunter Bidens own laptop. The article said "This material suggests that, despite Joe Biden’s insistence that he knew nothing about his family’s business deals, he was well aware of his son Hunter Biden’s business ventures in China, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, and elsewhere. These new troves constitute hard evidence of Biden family corruption, and confirm our reporting dating back to our 2018 book “Secret Empires.”

Leith Van Onselen wrote "The fact that ‘skilled’ migrants are paid less, and suffer higher unemployment, is a damning indictment of Australia’s purported ‘skilled’ immigration system, and is bonafide proof that it is undercutting local workers. Thus, Australia is not running a skilled migration system at all, but a defacto low-skilled system that is depressing wages, crush-loading cities, diluting our resources base, and eroding overall amenity for existing residents."

Julian Burnside wrote this week:
Proposed sections 250 and 253 have the effect of permitting police to exercise public health powers and emergency powers without the direction of an authorised officer. Police are not public health officials and do not have the expertise to determine whether action is necessary to eliminate or reduce a serious risk to public health. Further, we have seen that a lot of fines for breaching the directions have been issued erroneously and at times, it seems, capriciously. With the increased arsenal of powers, Liberty Victoria is concerned that we may see an increase in the severity of consequences (beyond substantial fines) flowing from similarly erroneous or capricious decisions – including arrests and restricting a person’s movement.
Even more worryingly, proposed s 252 introduces a preventative detention regime which appears to have little protections or oversight, and provides far too much discretion to people who may lack the necessary expertise to determine risk, including police officers. The Bill does not specify what conduct may give rise to a “reasonable belief” that a person “is likely to refuse or fail to comply with” a direction. Again, police officers are not trained public health officials and will not have the expertise to determine the likelihood of a person’s conduct presenting a public health risk. Further, the period of detention is not specified in the Bill and there is no oversight regulation built into this power. It is to be determined based on what the designated authorised person, including a police officer, considers and if they reasonably believe the person remains a ‘high risk person’."
I discuss this in tonights episode.

For a little bit of good news in Victoria, from 11.59pm 13 September 2020, some restrictions will be eased across Victoria, subject to 'trigger points' being met and public health advice. Metropolitan Melbourne has a specific reopening roadmap, relating to how many active coronavirus (COVID-19) cases are in the community and public health advice. But while we are all living with the strain of Coronavirus restrictions, the government marches on with its plans for toxic soil dumping...

In this episode, I read through my letter to the community letting them know I am not running in the up coming council elections.
It may come as a shock to some, to others this is not unexpected, but I announce that I will not be contesting the next Wyndham City Council election. After October I will no longer be a Councillor.
I started with the fact I put family first, which is why I am not contesting council. Managing a full time job, and being the Dad of a special needs kid with ever increasing challenges means the role of councillor is something that is not sustainable. To those that have supported me in the past. Firstly, thank you. I’d also say, I am a fighter, and I do not need to be a councillor to fight for justice. To those wondering why I do what I do, its simple, I love my family and want the best community for them, our community.
Tune in to hear more.

Netflix this week pulled advertising for a film that is releasing in September on its platform. Cuties, an TV-MA rated film, was originally was described as "Amy, 11, becoes fascinated with a twerking dance crew. Hoping to join them, she starts to explore her feminimity, defying her family's traditions."
Netflix issued an apology, “We’re deeply sorry for the inappropriate artwork that we used for ‘Mignonnes’/’Cuties.’ It was not ok, nor was it representative of this French film which won an award at Sundance. We’ve now updated the pictures and description.”

Using beer has seen record energy generation at the plant, and its what I go over in todays show.

Many around the world dont have faith the media reports truely, fairly and fully. In this episode I go over an example why and the stats from different parts of the globe. A study examining perspectives on the news media from 38 countries revealed that levels of trust differed notably around the world. Although on the most part trust in European media (up to 56%), with the exception of France where only 24 percent of respondents said that they trusted news most of the time. USA trust has dipped to 41%.

Tonights episode I go over why it is silly to #IStandWithDan when his government has stuffed up so significantly.
To follow the clusters in Victoria, this graph details a lot - https://www.covid19data.com.au/clusters-and-outbreaks
Reminder to stay safe and follow advise too. Sure the government stuffed up, but it does not excuse you from being obstuse.
As of 26 July 2020 Victoria has recorded 459 new cases of coronavirus since yesterday, with the total number of cases now at 8,181. The overall total has increased by 437 due to 22 cases being reclassified – largely due to duplication. Within Victoria, 82 of the new cases are linked to outbreaks or complex cases and 377 are under investigation. There have been ten new deaths from COVID-19 reported since yesterday. They were seven men and three women. Seven were linked to known aged care outbreaks. Of the women who died, 2 were in their 80s, and one in her 70s. Of the seven men, three were in their 70s, two in their 80s, one in his 60s and one in his 40s.
To date, 71 people have died from coronavirus in Victoria.
Six of these deaths have been linked to aged care facilities.

PFAS can accumulate and stay in the human body for long periods of time. There is evidence that exposure to PFAS can lead to adverse health outcomes in humans. The most-studied PFAS chemicals are PFOA and PFOS. Studies indicate that PFOA and PFOS can cause reproductive and developmental, liver and kidney, and immunological effects in laboratory animals. Both chemicals have caused tumors in animals.
The most consistent findings are increased cholesterol levels among exposed populations, with more limited findings related to:
low infant birth weights,
effects on the immune system,
cancer (for PFOA), and
thyroid hormone disruption (for PFOS).
And the State Government of Victoria is moving ahead with its plans to dump it here.
"The exercise appears intended, once again, to facilitate or fast-track commercial outcomes and use the state to solve a commercial headache at the expense of displacing the problem onto communities," Mr Lindsay said. "The nature of the regulations themselves suggest lesser and unacceptable standards will be implemented."
In a letter to the EPA about the regulations, Moorabool Shire Council chief executive Derek Madden said operators were simply required to submit an environmental management plan, which didn't have to meet any "empirical standards".
The regulations were an "enabler that will allow MBC [Maddingley Brown Coal] to take spoil from the West Gate Tunnel", he wrote. "It throws into serious question the balance of the regulatory regime in relation to that spoil."

News.com.au reported that VIctorias quarantine hotels have had major stuff ups. And I go over the details revelaed by security staff and union representatives and more.
On Thursday Kazim Shah from the United Workers Union said the use of private subcontractors without medical training to run the system meant many saw it as a “moneymaking” exercise and staff were not properly trained or given personal protective equipment (PPE).
“What happened was that the work was given to security companies which was then subleased to subcontractors where there was cost-cutting happening and they were making money out of this,” he explained to the ABC.
This is another shocking breach in trust by I have to say, a government expert at it.

Here in Victoria Australia, the beer bug is getting worse. Infections are being picked up at a rate not seen here before. And a significant part of the outbreak comes from quarantine guards that some are suggesting had just 3 minutes of training.
As of 6 July 2020, the total number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases in Victoria is 2,660. The overall total has increased by 124, with three cases reclassified. Of the new cases, 34 are linked to outbreaks, 40 were identified through routine testing and 53 remain under investigation. No case has been detected in a returned traveller in hotel quarantine.
416 cases have been acquired in Australia where the source of infection is unknown. 31 people are in hospital, including three patients in intensive care. 20 people have died, no increase since yesterday’s report. 1,992 people have recovered. Of the total 2,660 cases, there have been 2,307 in metropolitan Melbourne and 260 in regional Victoria. Several cases remain under investigation.
And per the Guardian "No one in Victoria is known to have cited a conspiracy theory for declining to take a Covid-19 test, the state’s health department has said, despite the health minister, Jenny Mikakos, blaming such beliefs for some of the 10,000 refusals as mass testing is carried out across Melbourne’s hotspot suburbs."

China threatened if Australia did not back down from seeking an independent inquiry, it would hurt us. And it looks like that has already started. Meat and Barley exports to China are under a threat.

But I do have an idea. Morally we should do this anyway. The Australian government needs to start taxing Chinese made goods, that could easily be made here, to cover the wages difference of paying someone here, as opposed to the poor conditions some Chinese people are forced to work under.

The Last of Us Part 2 has been leaked online, well the story. After an employee was screwed over, or as Sony suggests, it was a Hack, the outrage has been building. Fans are upset.
Sony has an opportunity, do what the team behind the Sonic film did. Delay the release and course correct. Instead, they are outright attacking the very people they intend to sell their game too.
Insanity.

The ABC (Australian Broadcast Corporation), released a story about a Chinese Propaganda piece.
The piece reports "Entitled Once Upon a Virus, the short animation — released by China's official Xinhua news agency — takes the form of a back-and-forth between China and the US with China being represented by a Lego terracotta warrior and a team of hazmat wearing characters, and the US by the Statue of Liberty. The dialogue begins with the Chinese warrior who stated they had discovered a dangerous new virus, to which the Statue of Liberty replied: "It's only a flu ... Don't wear a mask", adding that China's "stay at home" measures were a violation of human rights."
Other sources report "A BOMBSHELL spy dossier has claimed China lied to the world about coronavirus by covering up the outbreak - which is killing tens of thousands around the world. A 15-page document, obtained by Australia's The Saturday Telegraph, has laid the foundation for a case being created against China for its handling of the deadly disease."

In this deep dive I ask the question, has the World Health Organisation, and the politicis it plays, put all of us at risk. The WHO advised against trade and travel restrictions against China amid the coronavirus outbreak, and at times downplayed the seriousness of the virus.
I go over a few articles to go over the case:

Even the Australian touched on the dodgy numbers coming out of China, https://www.theaustralian.com.au/world/china-hides-one-third-of-120000-confirmed-coronavirus-cases/news-story/edeb5ed9a3ef474ef1af8917856f27bf
China has under-reported its confirmed COVID-19 cases by one third, “More than 43,000 people in China had tested positive for COVID-19 by the end of February but had no immediate symptoms, a condition typically known as ¬asymptomatic,” the newspaper ¬reported, citing classified Chinese government data. As well as massively increasing China’s confirmed case numbers from its declared 81,600 to well over 120,000 — twice the amount in Italy — the revelation undermines claims by the World Health Organisation that have downplayed the proportion of COVID-19 cases without visible symptoms.
The WHO — which despite sending an “investigative team” to China in February for a fortnight was apparently unaware of the country’s huge asymptomatic caseload — has also said that ¬infections by silent carriers were “relatively rare”. That has been called into question by epidemiologists around the world who are increasingly concerned about how silent carriers might be spreading the highly infectious coronavirus, which has been found in more than 380,000 cases globally — not including the 43,000 cases, or more than 10 per cent of the international total, reportedly left off China’s official tally.
The fact that the WHO just swallowed this up, blocked Taiwan, and was critical of early containment efforts, has to raise serious questions about their role and funding.

In this rather challenging deep dive, I go over the early days of the outbreak now engulfing the world. Specifically I cover how CCP authorities ignored their own people, such as Dr Li, who tried warning medical bodies of a SARS like virus emerging in Wuhan.
The director of the emergency at Wuhan Central hospital, Ai Fen, was quoted in The Guardian, 11 March 2020, saying “If I had known what was to happen, I would not have cared about the reprimand. I would have ###### talked about it to whoever, where ever I could.”

In tonight's deep dive, I go over Covid 19, the #coronavirus inflicting so much pain on the world right now, which first emerged in #Wuhan, #China.
Per WHO: Stay aware of the latest information on the COVID-19 outbreak, available on the WHO website and through your national and local public health authority. Most people who become infected experience mild illness and recover, but it can be more severe for others. Take care of your health and protect others by doing the following:
Wash your hands frequently Regularly and thoroughly clean your hands with an alcohol-based hand rub or wash them with soap and water.
Why? Washing your hands with soap and water or using alcohol-based hand rub kills viruses that may be on your hands.
Maintain social distancing Maintain at least 1 metre (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing. (Note in #Australia the recommendation is 1.5 meters per the government).
Why? When someone coughs or sneezes they spray small liquid droplets from their nose or mouth which may contain virus. If you are too close, you can breathe in the droplets, including the COVID-19 virus if the person coughing has the disease.
Avoid touching eyes, nose and mouth
Why? Hands touch many surfaces and can pick up viruses. Once contaminated, hands can transfer the virus to your eyes, nose or mouth. From there, the virus can enter your body and can make you sick.
Practice respiratory hygiene Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.
Why? Droplets spread virus. By following good respiratory hygiene you protect the people around you from viruses such as cold, flu and COVID-19.
If you have fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical care early Stay home if you feel unwell. If you have a fever, cough and difficulty breathing, seek medical attention and call in advance. Follow the directions of your local health authority.
Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on the situation in your area. Calling in advance will allow your health care provider to quickly direct you to the right health facility. This will also protect you and help prevent spread of viruses and other infections.
Stay informed and follow advice given by your healthcare provider Stay informed on the latest developments about COVID-19. Follow advice given by your healthcare provider, your national and local public health authority or your employer on how to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.
Why? National and local authorities will have the most up to date information on whether COVID-19 is spreading in your area. They are best placed to advise on what people in your area should be doing to protect themselves.

With guests former state politician Andrew Esbury and Boston news correspondent Lisa Heinrichs, we go over the toxic soil and revelations from The Age. With some key take aways from the No Toxic Soil rally, there is a tonne of information in tonight's show (despite the camera malfunction on Lisa).
What did The Age newspaper say, well... "PFAS, from what we read, is one of the most dangerous chemicals around, it seems to last forever.
PFAS is a group of potentially carcinogenic chemicals now considered so hazardous that its prolonged use ultimately shut down the CFA Fiskville training college.
Soil samples in some areas to be excavated for the $6.7 billion projects has shown PFAS levels at between 112 and 2000 times the acceptable amount in drinking water.
Community members fear the PFAS-contaminated soil could leach into the surrounding soil and water if it was dumped at the MBC landfill site."

Tonight's deep dive goes into the PFAS toxic soil issue once again, as it seems the office of Tim Pallas is pushing material out on the tunnel project.
Tim Pallas' office is said to have issued a document that states "Extensive research shows there is no consistent evidence that PFAS is harmful to human health (The Australian Government's Expert Health Panel for PFAS report 2018)" But the USA EPA states here https://www.epa.gov/pfas/basic-information-pfas :
There is evidence that exposure to PFAS can lead to adverse health outcomes in humans. If humans, or animals, ingest PFAS (by eating or drinking food or water than contain PFAS), the PFAS are absorbed, and can accumulate in the body. PFAS stay in the human body for long periods of time. As a result, as people get exposed to PFAS from different sources over time, the level of PFAS in their bodies may increase to the point where they suffer from adverse health effects.
Studies indicate that PFOA and PFOS can cause reproductive and developmental, liver and kidney, and immunological effects in laboratory animals. Both chemicals have caused tumors in animal studies. The most consistent findings from human epidemiology studies are increased cholesterol levels among exposed populations, with more limited findings related to:

In tonights episode, James Hohepa Smith and I discuss the toxic soil proposed for Wyndham Vale and Bacchus Marsh (right next to one of Victoria's major food bowls). We go over the contamination risks as identified by the USA EPA, the harm that can happen and who should be worried.
And I have to ask, why would Labor poison Melbourne's food, why would they dump a toxic mess in their heartland?
Especially when you read quotes like this, "The class of chemicals, called PFAS, are in non-stick pans, water-resistant clothes, food packaging and firefighting foam. Nicknamed “forever chemicals”, they do not break down in the environment and accumulate in the human body. Numerous studies link PFAS exposure with cancer, thyroid problems and developmental issues in children."

The Planning Scheme Amendment Process (from Moorabool Shire Council)
The owners of the site propose to request the Minister for Planning to intervene, to prepare an amendment to the Moorabool Planning Scheme under section 20(4) of the Planning and Environment Act 1987. Section 20(4) refers to the ability of the Minister for Planning to amend the Planning Scheme without consultation. It is however discretionary on the Minister as to whether consultation occurs and to what extent.
Any person can request Ministerial intervention to prepare an amendment to a planning scheme. The planning practice note ‘Ministerial Powers of Intervention in Planning and Heritage Matters (2004)’ provides criteria that is considered by the Minister in making a decision on whether to intervene.
The process for requesting Ministerial intervention can be summarised as follows:
The applicant will request the Minister’s intervention.
Minister considers the request in accordance with the following criteria:
The matter will be one of genuine State or regional significance.
The matter will give effect to an outcome where the issues have been reasonably considered and the views of affected parties are known.
The matter will be the introduction of an interim provision or requirement and substantially the same provision or requirement is also subject to a separate process of review (such as the introduction of permanent controls in a planning scheme).
The matter will raise issues of fairness or public interest.
The matter requires co-ordination to facilitate decision
-making by more than one agency.
If the Minister decides to intervene, there is no requirement for public notification under the Planning and Environment Act 1987. There is also no requirement for consultation with Council.

Ron Fenton and Andrew Elsbury join me in a discussion on the need for better forest management in Australia, and especially in Victoria.
To recap from a year ago, the Guardian revealed “The royal commission into the 2009 Black Saturday bushfires, which killed 173 people on 7 February 2009, recommended that 5% of Victorian public land be burnt each year. But planned burning in Victoria declined from more than 125,000 hectares in 2016-17 to about 74,000 hectares in 2017-18, the environment department’s annual report shows.”
This recommendation has been set aside by the State Government of Victoria. The report going into the background in this noted "the 390,000 hectare target may not have been achievable, affordable or sustainable "can be found here - https://www.igem.vic.gov.au/sites/default/files/embridge_cache/emshare/original/public/2017/07/57/efb9f25f5/VictorianBushfiresRoyalCommission2015ProgressReport.pdf

Tonight we go over the issue of planned burns, and if it is contributing to the fires of today. From the guardian article (below), this means in the last three years of planned burning, it is at a level either equal to or less than the 130,000 hectares the 2009 Royal Commission called inadequate. 1.7% burned at best despite the royal commission flagging the need for 5%.
Back in 2019, the ABC wrote in an article which warned of a possible problem "I've been begging them [Forest Fire Management Victoria] for 20 years to burn off the state forest at the back of our place and still to this day it hasn't happened, I honestly believe the ferocity of that fire was fuelled by the trash in the bush — I think my place might not have been impacted nearly as much, it would have been much more controllable if there'd been some forest management out there."

Have to thank the firefighters all over the country, putting their lives on hold, and at risk, fighting these fires. Lets hope when the dust settles, that governments will learn lessons. For Victoria, that is lessons clearly set out in the 2009 royal commission.

Tonight I go over some worrying developments in Australia, including allegations of a Chinese spy effort to install an agent into the Australian parliament. And has money from foreign sources influenced the future of this great land.
Some exhibits to check out:
From 2017 "The amount of Australian farm land owned by Chinese interests has surged tenfold in the past year, climbing above 14 million hectares or 2.5 per cent of all agricultural land." - https://www.smh.com.au/politics/federal/china-now-owns-10-times-the-amount-of-australian-land-it-did-last-year-20170930-gyrxia.html?fbclid=IwAR0PoMsylpDjZXPGe9uUEhV7e4egKLlgN14_SCDF6HE6oJOxZaFgnGPjRRE
"In 2017, ANZ found foreign buyers owned up to 400,000 Australian homes. Today, Mr Driscoll estimated that figure would be “close to 500,000”. ANZ also estimated foreign investors bought between 30,000 and 50,000 new dwellings in 2015-16. At that rate, Mr Driscoll said it “won’t be too long” before a million homes were in foreign hands" - https://www.news.com.au/national/fears-one-million-aussie-homes-could-soon-be-owned-by-foreign-buyers/news-story/c50a4112bab4f3ed8fae27277f313f54?fbclid=IwAR2ydtBEr_v1OTmT3-JghX_QcAKx9UczrXGmhBgsENv0VnIkBuvNvZWLaRw
"A Chinese 'spy' who claimed he was paid $1million to infiltrate Australian politics had been photographed attending a meeting at embattled MP Gladys Liu's home. Photos have emerged showing Bo 'Nick' Zhao at an event for the Victorian Liberal Party's eastern multicultural branch hosted by Ms Liu in Glen Iris in 2016. In both pictures, which had been posted on the group's social media, Zhao is seen sitting and standing directly next to the Chisolm MP. Zhao, a car dealer who had allegedly claimed communist agents offered him money to run for parliament, was found dead in a Melbourne hotel room in March. " - https://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-7742615/Gladys-Liu-photographed-Chinese-spy-Nick-Zhao-event-home-2016.html
"The ferrari-driving developer-stroke-consultant has admitted to all sorts, including an elaborate scheme to pay the former mayor of Casey $5000 per month so he could supposedly procure racehorses for wealthy Chinese buyers. And Racing Minister Martin Pakula, while serving as attorney-general, accepted a political donation from Woodman last year, according the evidence, although Pakula disputes the amount. The IBAC inquiry has heard that the campaigns of Pakula’s Labor colleagues Deputy Premier James Merlino, Children’s Minister Luke Donellan, Cranbourne MP Pauline Richards, Macedon MP Mary-Anne Thomas, Carrum MP Sonja Kilkenny, Ringwood MP Duncan Halse and defeated Ferntree Gully candidate Julie Buxton all benefited from a total of nearly $160,000 in donations to Labor." - https://www.theage.com.au/politics/victoria/seven-labor-candidates-took-donations-from-a-man-who-d-been-front-page-news-had-they-never-heard-of-google-20191126-p53ed2.html

The pro-democracy protests in Hong Kong have taken a quite deadly turn. In this episode, I use material from on the ground, as well as local reports, to highlight what is happening now.
NOTE THAT THIS IS GRAPHIC IN NATURE.
According to the Epoch Times, "According to various media reports, since the protests began in June, the number of reported suicide cases have soared. In the two months following June 12, the number of suicide cases reported was about 10 people in every ten-day period. Then, from Aug. 21 to Aug. 31, the number suddenly rose to 18. And in the following ten days, the number jumped to 49. So far, the total number has exceeded 100, and many of the victims were young protesters, according to various media reports. Needless to say, this is extremely abnormal."
The protests are in response to a bill to allow Hong Kong extradite criminal fugitives to Taiwan and Mainland China. This bill is in response to Hong Konger Chan Tong-kai's murder of his pregnant girlfriend, Poon Hiu-wing while they visited Taiwan. As there is no extradition treaty with Taiwan, the Hong Kong government proposed an amendment to create a mechanism for case-by-case transfers of fugitives.
But many Hong Kong residents saw that as an overreach, weakening Hong Kong's ability to self govern.

And if you are interested on how to fix story telling, Blake Snyders Wiki is here - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Blake_Snyder
A bit from the link "The title Save the Cat! was coined by Snyder to describe a decisive moment when the protagonist decides to risk their own life to save another. His inspiration for this was the movie Alien, where Sigourney Weaver's character Ripley saves a cat named Jones. Snyder writes that, "It's the scene where we [first] meet the hero", in order to gain audience favor and support for the main character right from the start. In the opening scene of the movie, Frequency, for example, Frank Sullivan, played by Dennis Quaid, is the veteran firefighter who jumps into a manhole to save two workers from a gas explosion. Prior to his death-defying rescue, his chief warns, "Frank, you're not going to make it. There's not enough time." Frank, a true hero, does not seem overly alarmed. This is what he does. His concern is primarily for the men below as he confidently jokes, "What, miss the World Series? Not a chance." From this moment on, the audience is fully invested in Frank's well-being and rooting for him to succeed."

In this episode, I go over Media restrictions, but also the responsibilities of reporting fairly and accurately using Trump as an example), and the need for Free Speech in a healthy democracy.
The Sydney Morning Herald covered some background...
Media organisations in Australia have long been concerned about threats to journalism, but the issue exploded into the public consciousness following two consecutive police raids earlier this year.
On June 4, police conducted a six-hour raid on the home of News Corp political journalist Annika Smethurst over an April 2018 story. The story had revealed a proposal for electronic intelligence agency the Australian Signals Directorate to take on an expanded domestic role and that figures inside government were concerned about the idea.
On June 5, as part of a separate leak investigation, police raided the Sydney headquarters of the ABC over a 2017 series on accusations of war crimes committed by Australia’s special forces in Afghanistan. The warrant named multiple ABC journalists responsible for the reporting. A week earlier, a former military lawyer was committed to stand trial over the leak of documents to the ABC.
Reporters Without Borders ranked Australia as 21st in the world for press freedom in 2019, dropping two places since last year. The international organisation has warned that investigative journalism is under threat from “draconian” laws. Another global watchdog, Freedom House, has warned of a troubling trend in Australia despite a strong democratic history.
Constitutional lawyer George Williams has pointed to the approximately 75 rounds of national security legislation that have been passed by the Parliament since September 11, 2001. He says the scale of this legislation far exceeds comparable democracies and have significantly heightened secrecy and restrictions on press freedom.

The State Government in Victoria has announced the end of logging in old growth forests, while at the same time Firefighters are fighting the state government for information about toxic smoke.
A stockpile of highly toxic chemicals, 10 million litres, has been discovered inside the rubble of a West Footscray warehouse more than a year after it burnt down during one of Melbourne’s worst industrial fires in decades. And what have Regulators been doing since the blaze in August 2018. One thing, is blocking those Firefighters from knowing what those chemicals are. Quite important since 750 of them were exposed and there are more than a few that are quite sick since then.
Then there is the possibility of big brother getting a look into our schools too. At least the State Government is not fond of that. For some background check out these...

IGN reports “We love Star Wars,” Benioff and Weiss said. “When George Lucas built it, he built us too. Getting to talk about Star Wars with him and the current Star Wars team was the thrill of a lifetime, and we will always be indebted to the saga that changed everything. There are only so many hours in the day, and we felt we could not do justice to both Star Wars and our Netflix projects, so we are regretfully stepping away.”

Freedom of speech is under threat in Australia. It shocks many to hear, Aussies do not have a bill of rights. In fact, the Australia Government voted down a proposal for one in 2017.
The media has launched a campaign to raise awareness of journalism under threat. #Yourrighttoknow asks "When government keeps the truth from you, what are they covering up?"
You have a right to know what the governments you elect are doing in your name. But in Australia today, the media is prevented from informing you, people who speak out are penalised and journalism that shines a light on matters you deserve to know about is criminalised. This needs to change. 87 per cent of Australians value a free and transparent democracy where the public is kept informed. Sadly, only 37 per cent believe this is happening in Australia today^. Australians have been slowly losing their right to know how their government operates and about issues that affect their families and finances. For the last 20 years, the federal government has been issuing tighter and tighter laws on what information is shared with the public.

Hobsons Bay City Council is introducing a "more efficient, reliable and locally-focussed kerbside waste and recycling service is coming your way over summer [of 2019/2020]!"
The new service will include;
weekly food and garden waste collections
monthly glass recycling collections
fortnightly general waste collections
fortnightly paper, cardboard, metals and plastic recycling collections
The council says, "Following the recent closure of SKM Recycling, and strong community responses seeking to strengthen and improve recycling in the municipality, it is necessary and opportune to accelerate these plans to respond to the recycling crisis. This approach seeks to diversify the risk of being negatively influenced by future market changes by working with multiple providers, and implementing local solutions with local suppliers and markets wherever possible."

Activision Blizzard banned a esports pro player and stripped him of prize money, as he spoke out for a free Hong Kong.
From Vice, "Outrage at Activision Blizzard is mounting after the company suspended Hearthstone pro Chung “Blitzchung” Ng Wai for declaring his support of Hong Kong’s protest movement. Fans are mad, U.S. politicians are angry, and there’s evidence that even Blizzard’s employees are upset.
"United States Senators Marco Rubio (R-Florida) and Ron Wyden (D-Oregon) both tweeted their condemnation of Activision Blizzard’s actions on Tuesday. “Blizzard shows it is willing to humiliate itself to please the Chinese Communist Party,” Senator Wyden tweeted. “No American company should censor calls for freedom to make a quick buck.”

We need jobs. As the ABC said "Wyndham — located in Melbourne's sprawling south-west along the highway between Melbourne and Geelong — experienced one of Australia's largest population increases between 2011 and 2016, according to government statistics, adding 65,000 people in just five years."
By 2016, people working in the area grew to 61,909 but people in the area who work grew to 217,118, leaving a total jobs deficit of almost 155,000.

And yet some changes to the Cherry Creek Youth Justice Facility currently under construction, were announced on the eve of the AFL grand final. A spot that is to provide some local job relief.
"The design of the Cherry Creek facility has been revised [scaled down from around 240 to 140 beds] to deliver a more specialised facility that focuses on staff safety and reducing re-offending among Victoria’s most complex and challenging young males aged 15-18 years." https://www.premier.vic.gov.au/building-a-safer-and-more-secure-youth-justice-system/

Australia certainly was involved in the Russian/Trump story, thus the calls for investigations. Actual Impeachment though is something new. I do not believe Nancy Pelosi is only going after Trump. The story around Joe Biden and his son Hunter is too controversial for the mud to simply slide off.
From the Guardian,
"Donald Trump called Scott Morrison to ask for help in an investigation aimed at discrediting the Mueller inquiry, and Morrison agreed to assist.
The call, first reported by the New York Times but confirmed by the Australian government, happened shortly before the Australian prime minister flew to the US to visit Trump last week. White House sources also confirmed the report, the Australian ABC reported.
According to two officials with knowledge of the call, Trump asked Morrison to help the US attorney general, William Barr, find evidence for a review into the Mueller inquiry."

But Why?
And who does the impeachment stuff benefit in reality?

The Democrats want to know whether Trump pressured Ukraine to investigate Democratic presidential candidate and former Vice President Joe Biden. But Trump claims the real issue is Biden and his son Hunter Biden and what they did in Ukraine a few years ago.
"The one who's got the problem is Biden," Trump told reporters on Monday at the United Nations.
"Biden did what they would like to have me do, except one problem: I didn't do it. What Biden did is a disgrace. What his son did is a disgrace."

The State Government has ripped the band aid off, saying no to the AEC plan for tens of thousands of jobs in an area that drastically need them.
Per the ABC "Wyndham — located in Melbourne's sprawling south-west along the highway between Melbourne and Geelong — experienced one of Australia's largest population increases between 2011 and 2016, according to government statistics, adding 65,000 people in just five years.
According to 2011 census figures, the area had 43,401 people working in the area, spread across most industry categories. Compare that to the 161,577 people who reported they lived in the area and worked.
This left Wyndham with a jobs-to-workers deficit of almost 118,000 in 2011, forcing many to commute and work elsewhere."

Concerns have been raised about the number of volunteers the CFA has attracted, with the total number at the lowest it has been in a decade.
Nine News reported "The state's Country Fire Authority missed its target of 39,400 volunteer firefighters in the 2018/19 financial year, with 34,380 registered, according to a copy of its latest annual report leaked to the Herald Sun." "The leaked report also showed the CFA wage bill ballooning by $100 million over three years. The force's annual salary costs grew to $319 million in 2018/19, up from $288 million on the previous year."

In this episode, government decision making and their "fixes", and another attack on free speech or wrong-speak. I pretty much rant about the need for East Werribee too. Especially with government planning, with affordable homes as far away from where they are needed.
As some background -
Dr Henry also noted poor-quality infrastructure that had led to congested major cities unable to deal with the fastest population growth in the developed world and wide-scale cases of environmental degradation, including the "unsustainable and environmentally damaging water usage in the Murray-Darling basin". He said governments over the past decade had claimed to have fixed many of these problems when the truth was the opposite.

A case for East West Link - "The Eastern Freeway is pumping enormous volumes of traffic into arterial roads and suburban streets. As traffic bursts at the other end of the pipeline into different channels, the results prove chaotic. Without a tunnel, Carlton’s streets act like a bottleneck on traffic moving from the eastern suburbs to critical destinations such as the airport, industrial zones and the port of Melbourne. Melbourne needs improvements to its public transport infrastructure. "
Against: East West Link - "Proponents of the road claim it will relieve congestion along Alexandra Parade and the Eastern Freeway. How can this be the case when the majority of the freeway’s traffic is headed for the CBD (not west) and its traffic volumes are, by the government’s own modelling, projected to significantly increase once the road is constructed? It is claimed that the road will take traffic off local, inner suburban roads. How could this possibly be true when the likely cost to use the road will simply encourage more of the same ‘rat-running’?"

According to Rita Panahi "Free speech is under renewed assault in Victoria. Laws that extend the Racial and Religious Tolerance Act to include gender identity, disability and sexual orientation are being considered in the Victorian upper house. It’s bad enough that illiberal bullies regularly launch co-ordinated attacks to harass, deplatform and silence ideological opponents; now they will seek to punish them in the courts or the Victorian Civil and Administrative Tribunal for “wrongspeak”. https://www.heraldsun.com.au/news/opinion/rita-panahi/rita-panahi-fiona-pattens-hate-speech-bill-another-attack-on-our-freedom/news-story/596c7778083abba6fcc86382bafc3dbe?utm_content=SocialFlow&utm_medium=Twitter&utm_source=HeraldSun&utm_campaign=EditorialSF

Solar Industry in crisis, due to state government police. And Naplan, the findings when it comes to Year 3 and Year 9 students.
Workers are being laid off and solar businesses are closing their doors in Victoria. The situation to date: - The Vic solar rebate was paused in April. Sales dropped off as buyers waited for its return. - The program re-opened on July 1 but paused two days later as the quota for the month (3,333 rebates) was met. Many missed out. - Sales have plummeted again as Victorians wait for the next round. - It may remain like this for months to come. - The stop-start nature of the rebate could kill the Victorian residential solar industry; or a good part of it. - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mz58Z...
In 2019, nearly 97% of Year 3 students across Australia met or exceeded the national minimum standard, whereas this figure drops to 82.9% for Year 9 students. The NAPLAN website explains that the national minimum standards are “a snapshot of typical achievement” and warns that students who do not achieve them “are at risk of being unable to progress satisfactorily at school”. - https://theconversation.com/naplan-results-show-year-3-students-perform-better-than-year-9-in-writing-and-its-a-worrying-trend-122541

In this show, I chat about a school yard brawl and a need for the State Government to back our teachers, a report that came out from AEMO that outright says Victoria is looking at blackouts, and briefly chat on Star Wars episode 9.

The report states that - In Victoria, if extended into the peak summer period, the unplanned outages of two major power stations, Loy Yang A2 (500 megawatts [MW]) and Mortlake 2 (259 MW), pose a significant risk of insufficient supply that could lead to material involuntary load shedding. If both power station outages were extended over the summer, and if no additional supply was secured, involuntary load shedding [blackouts] may be experienced in Victoria during extreme weather events, potentially over multiple events, equivalent to between 260,000 and 1.3 million households being without power for four hours.
