Imagine Monash in2040
What will Monash in 2040 be like? What do you want to keep the same, and what would you like to change?
Council is working on Image Monash 3040 – a huge project that imagines the possibilities for Monash 20 years into the future and sets our vision and priorities.
Over the next few months, the Council will be asking our listeners for your ideas, thoughts and aspirations to shape the future of Monash. Council would love to hear from anyone who lives, works, studies or runs a business in or visits the City of Monash.
Your feedback will guide the Council as they plan the Community Vision, our next Council plan and long-term plans for managing the assets and finances through as Financial Plan and Asset Management Plan.
Your view is important to this vision of a future Monash. Be part of the future, and share your views with us by Hard copies of the survey will be available at Civic Centre 293 Springvale Rd Glen Waverley, Oakleigh Service Centre 1A Atherton Rd.

The subject matters or topics of interest will be published on MGA’s website. EOIs will be open all year round.
The exhibitions will be selected by MGA’s Curatorial team based upon how well the work responds to the subject or topic of interest, its quality and how well the work has been resolved.

When the sun sleeps
Clare Jellie’s photographic series, When the sun sleeps explores the small Australian coastal town of Warrnambool, and the stories embedded within its social and environmental ecologies. Through the series, Jellie addresses her ambivalent feelings about growing up in a typical regional Australian town, while also connecting with the people who have chosen to embrace an unassuming lifestyle.
The work provides a contrast to the usual touristic and cliched imagery of Warrnambool, showing grey skies, stagnant streets, and a desolate coastline. Drawing on the traditions of long-form documentary photography, Jellie has created a series that both questions and celebrates rural living.
Exhibition closes May 31.

Art in Monash
For further art in the City of Monash have a look at the visual enhancements of the outdoor dining areas where the council has taken over some carparks for the local restaurants.
Who would have thought that the humble concrete street barrier could be turned into something much more interesting? At the end of 2020, artist Carla Gottigens was engaged by Monash Council to decorate concrete barriers around outside dining areas and create attractive ambience for the local community to meet and eat or, as Carla says about the project, she was “Making concrete barriers a little less Urgh!”
If you happen to be shopping locally in and around Haughton and Clayton Rds in Clayton area or near Poath Rd in Hughesdale stop by, take a selfie and post it on your social media site. Or send it to events@monash.vic.gov.au the council would love to connect with you.

Friends Work Party in Valley Reserve.
If you enjoy gardening, perhaps you would like to help improve Valley Reserve and make some new friends.
Valley Reserve in Mount Waverley has a wonderful new Playspace for the young members of the community, but let’s not forget that the reserve has some of the best native vegetation in Monash. The Friends of Scotchmans Creek and Valley Reserve have been working with the Monash Council’s ‘Bush Crew’ for many years helping to keep weeds under control and looking after the remnant vegetation.
How about joining the friendly group for a couple of hours of garden maintenance on a Saturday afternoon?
The Work Party is held on the last Saturday of each month. The Friends meet at the amenities block at the end of the car park at 1.20 pm and work from 1.30 pm to 3.30 pm, finishing up with a cuppa and a chat.
