At some point during girl talk, the conversation almost always comes around to relationship hardships. Singles lament the dating scene. Too many married women wonder why they ever got married.
Poor communication, unresolved traumas, and misaligned couples are the usual culprits. And misunderstandings between the sexes don't help.
Much of what women think they know about men comes from conversations with their friends. And the level of drama and confusion shows that many women are not getting the right insights. But today we'll get some answers.

Black mamas are tired.
But social media posts often only show polished family photos, perfectly plated homecooked meals, chic spotless homes, and beaming couples living their happily ever after.
Behind the scenes, Black mamas are stretched thin, conditioned to do it all, selflessly, declaring that they are "too blessed to be stressed".
And this couldn't be further from the truth.

The Merriam-Webster dictionary defines "feminism" as the belief that men and women should have equal rights and opportunities. What's controversial about this concept?
For many Black women, the concept of feminism is complex. There's a discomfort that comes with aligning with a concept that traditionally only amplifies, humanizes, and supports the voices of white women.
Does feminism hold space for Black women? Is it our place to demand the stage, or better yet, build our own?
define&empower founder, Amanda Bennett joins us on the new SheConfidential podcast episode to explore these questions and others related to Black feminism.
Amanda is a Black feminist educator, consultant, poet, and PhD candidate in Literature at Duke University. Amanda used her academic knowledge of Black feminism, LGBTQ studies, and cultural studies as the foundation for define&empower, a Black feminist education and consulting collective.

There's been a lot of buzz about The Great Resignation, a phrase used to describe the record breaking number of people leaving their jobs during the COVID-19 pandemic.
And according to United States Department of Labor statistics, women are leading the number of resignations. This shouldn't be surprising given the disproportionate responsibilities women often carry at home and the never-ending pay gaps between men and women workers. Even before the pandemic, too many women were carrying way too much, with insufficient satisfaction, support, recognition, or compensation.
Stressed, burned out, underpaid, and so over it, more women are finally stepping up to show up for themselves and make intentional career moves.
On the new SheConfidential podcast episode, career counselor and coach Dr. Tega Edwin shares insights on how to have a fulfilling career. In addition, Dr. Edwin:

For many of us, a song or even the first few notes of a tune are enough to transport us to a particular time, feeling, place, or face. During the early days of the COVID-19 pandemic, virtual concerts, and online music events provided the healing and connections we needed. Now that the world is fumbling towards a new normal, everyone is trying to regroup.
But even before the pandemic, certain facets of the arts community were already struggling. Orchestras and symphonies, needing to attract new devoted patrons, were falling short on appeal and relevance as a result of their lack of diversity and connection to prospective audiences.
A 2016 study of the League of American Orchestras indicated that Black musicians made up less than 2% of orchestras despite being 12% of the US population. Why aren't there more Black musicians?
On the new SheConfidential podcast episode, musician and CREATE (Cultural Rhythm Expressing Art to Empower) founder and president, Sana Colter describes the factors contributing to the underrepresentation of Black musicians and identifies ways this can be addressed.
In addition, Sana also discusses:

Having HIV is a crime in the United States.
Currently, 35 states have laws that allow felony prosecution for exposure to HIV, even if the exposure doesn’t result in the transmission of HIV.
People of color make up 25% of the US population and over 50% of people diagnosed with HIV. This means that people of color are also the ones most impacted by laws criminalizing HIV.
Unfortunately, most people know nothing about these laws. This results in confusion, increased discrimination and bias against those living with HIV.
As we’ve often heard, knowledge is power.
And today’s episode is a start towards increasing awareness of this issue. This episode featuring Kim Hunt, Executive Director of the Pride Action Tank, is packed with information about the movement to decriminalize HIV and remove the stigma associated with this public health crisis.

Money drama is the last thing people should have to sort through following the death of a loved one. Unfortunately, many of us have heard the stories about families locked in conflict as they try to pool funds to pay for the funeral or memorial service or bickering over who is entitled to family heirlooms or property. Too many of us have firsthand experience with the family fallouts that unfold when a loved one dies. Estate planning can help avoid so much of this.
Estate planning includes the process of documenting your wishes for how you want your assets and personal property distributed upon your death or incapacitation.

Those who ignore history are doomed to repeat it. And although slavery ended over 100 years ago, the systems, beliefs, and prejudices it left behind are things we still battle today. And the impacts don't stop at politics or gaps in influence and wealth. Relationship dynamics between Black couples, families, and communities have also been burdened with intergenerational traumas stemming from slavery.
If we're going to heal from the mental and emotional scars slavery left behind, we need to explore how intergenerational traumas impact Black men and women and identify ways to start healing. This is what Jared Washington, an Atlanta based Licensed Professional Counselor, discusses in today's episode.
Jared has dedicated his life to empowering Black people through mental health counseling and providing education to break the mental and emotional barriers holding us back. From founding his company H.O.P.E. LLC to writing his book, "Heal or Repeal: Breaking the Cycle of Intergenerational Trauma," Jared is working tirelessly to bring awareness to these issues and we applaud his efforts.

There was a time when most people found their perfect match at a Saturday night house party or through the connections of family or friends.
Now, many hopefuls are turning to the internet and apps to find love. Unfortunately, those two Tinder swipes to either side of the screen can send your emotions up and down like a roller coaster. How do we reconcile our faith with the world around us? How do you balance your calling with the demands of every day life?
For Dr. Kimberly Davis it's not a question of balance - that would imply that she has to choose. Instead, she's living a lifestyle that blends God, her community and her work in a way that makes sense for her. It's not about which she loves more, it's about harmony. In today's episode, we dive into what it means for Kimberly to be Black, a woman of God, and a Chicago Police Department Officer while striving to be a bridge builder for the community she serves.

Self-care isn't a new term that's trendy. It's not a fad that's going to go away.
If you're even vaguely familiar with the term, you know it means more than just treating yourself to your Saturday night glass of wine. It's about improving the quality of your life in ways that feel good and bring you pleasure and joy. It's empowerment.
In this episode Claire B. Soares, founder of Up In the Air Life, a luxury travel agency, breaks down exactly what self-care means for her and why everyone needs it! Find out what made her leave the halls of corporate America to move to the beaches of Mexico and how living her best life inspired her to become the Queen of Bougie Travel.
