The final panel conversation from the CESA Middle Years Network day at the end of last year. Today we feature a conversation with Mark from Thomas More College, and Walter & Thomas from St Paul’s College. It was a great discussion, and a wonderful way to end a really interesting day, unpacking the wisdom that these teachers have attained through both their accumulated professional experience, and the recent changes to the CESA middle years model, with secondary schools moving Year 7’s to their campuses.
The next panel conversation from the CESA Middle Years Network day at the end of last year. We feature a discussion with teachers from two schools working in very different locations and contexts: Kathy, Hannah and Anne from Kildare College, an all-girls secondary school in Adelaide’s north eastern suburbs, and Toni from St Mark’s College, a multi-campus R-12 school in the regional city of Port Pirie. A great conversation that really calls things how they are in terms of the challenges they’ve faced, and what they’ve learned about effective middle school teaching for students today.

We're launching this new podcast with a series of panel conversations from late last year with teachers who have been a part of the CESA Middle Years Network.
Catholic Education South Australia's has moved ahead of other school sectors in Adelaide to move Year 7 to secondary settings from 2019, and a group of 7 schools opted to be a part of a network, supporting educators as they inquire into learning, pedagogy and wellbeing that encourage the Middle Years learner to thrive and flourish. The principal aim being to help participants to develop a deeper understanding of the implications that the developmental changes that occur in adolescence have for teaching in the Middle Years.
The venue was the brand new auditorium at Xavier College, Gawler… so new in fact that we were the very first group to ever use it. It seems only fitting then that the first conversation was with Janet Coomber. Xavier’s Assistant Principal of Middle School Teaching and Learning.
