🎙 Episode Title: S5 E8 – The Financial Scale and How to Use It

💰 Overview:
In this episode, we introduce The Financial Scale—a 7-note system designed to help musicians grow wealth the same way they build musical skill: through fundamentals, repetition, and intention. Just like mastering a new scale on your instrument, mastering your finances starts with learning the notes and practicing how they work together. Chris Webb and Dave Tamkin walk through each "note" of the Financial Scale—A through G—and explain how applying these steps can harmonize your creative and financial life. 🎼 The Financial Scale:
* A – Advance: Always stay one month ahead in your business account. * B – Budget: Know your fixed, variable, and irregular expenses. * C – Clarity: Get your full financial picture and automate where possible. * D – Debt: Eliminate bad debt to free up your income. * E – Emergency Fund: Save 2–5 months of expenses to stay stable. * F – Forecast: Plan and track monthly/yearly financial goals. * G – Growth: Dream big, plan long-term, and invest in your future.

🔑 Key Takeaway:
Combining these notes into a system creates the real magic. Whether you're just starting out or already generating income, this scale helps musicians create structure, reduce stress, and amplify their impact. 💬 Quote of the Episode: “Wealth consists not in having enormous possessions, but in having few wants.” – Epictetus 🎧

Chris Webb and Dave Tamkin kick things off with a playful “Mani-fest” pun that sets the tone: mindset and money go hand-in-hand for working artists. The hosts remind listeners that you can dream big and get paid for it. Why Manifesting Belongs in Your Business Plan
* 79 % of surveyed DIY musicians say mindset directly affects their income—yet few have a structured routine for it. * Manifesting is presented as a practical goal-setting framework, not magical thinking. When paired with budgets and calendars it becomes a performance multiplier.

The 5-Step Musician Manifesting Method
1. Get Crystal-Clear on the Dream – Define revenue, venue sizes, or follower counts with hard numbers and dates. 2. Audit Beliefs & Rewrite the Script – Replace “I’m not good enough” with “My unique sound has an audience.” 3. Visualize Daily, then Operationalize – Convert affirmations into task-list micro-actions (e.g., 20 emails to venue bookers). 4. Prime Your Dopamine Loop – Small wins (posting a clip, finishing a chorus) keep motivation chemistry working for you. 5. Track, Tweak, Triumph – Hold weekly check-ins using a simple KPI sheet (income, streams, mailing-list growth).

Quote of the Day: “Whatever you give the universe, the universe gives back—plus royalties.” — Chris Webb (humorously credited to “Unknown”) Dave’s Two Cents & Real-Life Case Studies
Dave shares how pitching a dream festival slot before he felt “ready” forced him to level-up—and landed a paying gig. Mini spotlights highlight indie artists who manifested Patreon income, sync deals, and non-profit grant wins by following the 5-step system. Action Worksheet Walk-Through
Listeners are invited to download a free PDF that maps the method to:
* “Dream → Deliverable” Table (dream = “open for X,” deliverable = “email 3 mutual connections”) * Belief Swap Checklist * Weekly KPI Tracker

Resources & Shout-Outs
Book recommendations (“Atomic Habits,” “The War of Art”), meditation apps, and a reminder to rate/review the show so more musicians find money wisdom. Take-Home Challenge
Listeners commit to writing their top income goal on a sticky note and snapping a pic, tagging @MusiciansTipJar for accountability. Key Takeaways at a Glance
* Manifesting ≠ Wishing. It’s structured visualization tied to measurable actions. * Mindset Moves Money. Positive belief loops increase productivity and networking courage. * Track or It Didn’t Happen. Weekly metrics turn dreams into dashboards.

We are really excited to be back for season 5 of Musicians TIp Jar. Thank you for being here; just by listening, you are supporting the cause and belief that all musicians can be free from the fear of money forcing them to quit. Today we are also excited to announce that our first of a series of mini-courses has launched, and we thought this would be a perfect time to show you how you can launch your very own courses too!

Building Dreams Through The Arts Founded in 1999, Prairie Music & Arts (formerly Prairie Music Academy) is a non-profit 501(c)(3) community school of the arts offering quality education and opportunities to people of all ages. It is our goal to foster musical and artistic exploration that leads to self-confidence and creativity, as well as to offer a community that both inspires and enriches. You can find us in Sun Prairie, WILearn more at: https://prairiemusic.org/

We have been hard at work creating our first course. This course is catered to all musicians to give them a solid foundation of how to increase, track, and keep their hard-earned money. It’s an intro course on building wealth as a musician, and that is why we titled it “How to be a Wealthy Musician.”

At the end of this podcast, we will give you the information to check it out, but what we really want to put a spotlight on today is creating a course, our experience of doing it so far, and why you should consider creating a course too!

Let's break down the steps we followed and discuss some tips that will definitely save you time in your course creation journey.

We started with our flagship course taught in college classes, The Financial Scale, but quickly realized this was far too much content to put into our first course. So, we decided to break it down into a more manageable amount of content by focusing on income and expenses.

Today we explore the rich world of FI or Financial Independence. We show the various strategies you can apply from this way of life to ease your stress and improve your money habits, allowing you more freedom.

THE ALLIANCE FOR LIFETIME INCOME is a non-profit educational organization based in Washington, D.C., that creates awareness and educates Americans about the value and importance of having protected lifetime income in retirement.. The Alliance provides consumers and financial professionals with educational resources, interactive tools, and actionable research and insights to use in building retirement income strategies and plans.

The Alliance was Elton’s first and only non‐profit tour partner and the sole presenting partner of his 2022 Farewell Yellow Brick Road tour in North America last year.Together, the Alliance, Elton and his husband David Furnish, CEO of Rocket Entertainment and chairman of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, heard from hundreds of thousands of fans along tour stops. The message was clear – financial security and planning for the next phase in life are hugely important to them. The couple plans to continue working with the Alliance to have these vital conversations throughout 2023.“It’s important that we all take the steps needed to ensure financial freedom in our lives, to follow our own yellow brick road,” said Furnish. “Though Elton and I have been fortunate, the need to save, protect and plan for the future are universal principles and the same for all of us. Our continued partnership with the Alliance for Lifetime Income furthers our mission to stand for human dignity at every stage of life.”Learn more at https://www.protectedincome.org/

Today we complete our chat with front range blues musician Mike Maurer. We discuss the journey we take to finding our style, showing the market your value and keeping your heart on the most important part of being a musician.

“All the money and all the details will go away, what really matters is how you make people feel” - Mike Maurer

Mike Maurer is a Colorado based musician who began playing guitar at a very early age, studying with Jock Bartley of the hit band, Firefall. After his debut release, Chasing Pearl , Mike toured extensively, sharing the stage with acts such as Johnny Winter, Eric Gales, Tab Benoit, Earth Wind and Fire, Richie Kotzen and Papa Chubby. His long awaited follow up album is set for release in fall 2024. Aside from endorsements and regional awards, Mike is an excellent and seasoned performer, teacher, and all around fun guy to be around. Let's go!

Today's action is to make a short list. List the top five income stream sources. Now take the fourth and fifth and let’s come up with two ways to take those revenue streams up in the list. This shouldn’t mean spend a lot more time doing these. The answer should be in how to show those areas more of your value so it can increase. An easy example is with our discussion of the tip jar QR code to multiple tip options. This instantly showed results for me and I believe it will for any of your performing musicians out there too!

This long journey and pursuit of being a full-time musician is full of growth, plateaus, dips and more growth. But there is a point when the path begins to need more to keep up the pace, grow, and truly level up. Today we discuss the concept of Multiplying your time, how it applies to musicians and our efforts to 10x this life…

“You will never ‘find’ time for anything. If you want time, you must make it.” -Charles Buxton

The Great River Folk Festival is the longest running nonprofit music festival in La Crosse, Wisconsin. The Mission of the Great River Folk Festival is to celebrate and cultivate folk culture rooted in the Driftless Region by uniting independent artists and community.Vision: We aim to nurture community through inclusive outreach for all ages as we curate experiential celebrations of folk arts inLa Crosse, WI and the surrounding area. Where you put your attention is where you put your energy. This is always an important reality to grasp. But taking it one step further, if you could put a system in place so that initial attention is kept on various projects independent of you so that you can then put your inner energy on the next thing, well, that's multiplying yourself, your energy, and your results. Think of it like throwing a snowball down the hill with all your energy. You make five well structured snowballs and strategically place them so you give them all a push, and they all grow as they move down that hill getting bigger and bigger as they roll. They will now all have a bigger impact, and all with less work and energy from you! Let's jump in deeper on multiplying your time as a musician!

As always, Thanks for joining us and remember, there is already enough for everyone, you just need to know how to get it. Until next time, on behalf of Dave Tamkin and myself, Chris Webb, Stay happy, healthy and wealthy. Spend time on things today that will give you 10x more in the years to come and you will always be at the top. This is Musicians Tip Jar.

If there is anything you have heard us say too many times it's that diversification is key to creating a wealthy musician’s income. We go at that goal from a different angle today. Instead of spreading out your talents, we stack ‘em up! This has been a very useful technique for me personally to increase my productivity and value in the music business and I think it can do the same for you!

“The idea of a talent stack is that you can combine ordinary skills until you have enough of the right kind to be extraordinary.” - Scott Adams

The Creative Music Guild is a Portland, Oregon all-volunteer, non-profit organization whose mission is to promote experimental, improvised music by presenting concerts, workshops and other events that bring together internationally recognized musicians with local performers, audiences and music students of all ages. For over twenty years, the CMG has been a leader in cultivating Portland’s experimental and improvised music. Learn more at creativemusicguild.org

Talent stacking is the concept of combining several average or above-average skills to create a unique and valuable skill set that sets you apart from others. The idea is that you don't need to be world-class in any single skill; instead, by being competent in multiple complementary skills, you can create a unique combination that makes you highly competitive and valuable in your field.

Big Fish Booking Company is an artist-run boutique agency based in Chicago that specializes in booking and artist management.

Owners Chris Weller and Tina Priceman started booking shows for themselves and some of their close friends under the guise of Big Fish in 2016 in an effort to better support their own musical endeavors. The hard work and “fake it till you make it” attitude slowly paid off as new artists were signed and the Big Fish network expanded. Big Fish Booking Company has grown into an international agency supporting the careers of many world-renowned artists, including (but not limited to) The Bad Plus, Nate Smith, Makaya McCraven, Kurt Elling and Melanie Charles. Big Fish prides itself on having a well-rounded approach to supporting musicians, as they understand first-hand the sacrifice and hard work it takes to build a touring career. Less than 10 years in, Big Fish has no intention of slowing down In the last episode, we explored how Big Fish built their booking agency and today we take that journey to what happens next, they expand. Welcome to Musicians Tip Jar where we talk about musicians and money. Where we have been unintentionally quoting Taylor Swift for years. Hi I’m the problem, it's me, Chris Webb, joined by my co-host and front desk attendant at the tortured poets department, Dave Tamkin.

Limiting beliefs among musicians can be all over the place depending on individual experiences, backgrounds, and aspirations. However, here is our list of the top ten most common. Our hope is to help you identify how you may in fact be holding yourself back for the very goals you desire.

Action:1. Identify the biggest limitation you are holding on to and write it down in the opposite as an affirmation. This shit works. If you don’t believe me, try it and see. What do you have to lose!?

Today we complete our inspiring conversation with the talented artist, Trevor Hall. We cover the money mindset journey and how it is possible to have a good relationship with it. Also, we see how Trevor is finding a way to balance all the important things in his life including family, music, purpose and spirituality.

Trevor Hall’s music is a blend of roots and folk music with touches of electronic elements, and is imbued with a deep love of Eastern Mysticism. This powerful symbiosis fostered a deep connectivity with his growing fan base and Trevor has quickly matured into a leader of a growing conscious musical community. Along with numerous pilgrimages to India, he has sold out the historic Red Rocks Amphitheatre here in Colorado as a headliner and has also completed a series of sold-out international tours with artists such as Ziggy Marley, Jimmy Cliff, Michael Franti, John Butler Trio, Matisyahu and many more…
We hope you are inspired by our conversation to look at the balance of what things are most important to you and in your life.

“Having the freedom to choose how I want to do things is magical but it doesn’t mean it’s easier” - Trevor Hall

Action:
1. Use this as a reminder to pay attention to your relationship with money. It is energy, neither good or bad. What you and your emotions bring to it determines the rest. We want the relationship to be healthy. Not obsessive, not jealous, not fearful but Loving and inspired and abundant.

The conversation with Trevor Hall highlighted several key themes. Firstly, it emphasized the importance of networking and staying connected in the music industry. Trevor's story of losing a record deal and having to start over showed the resilience and determination required to pursue a career in music. He also discussed the emotional and financial challenges artists face when their creations become assets and are taken away. Trevor's deep love for music and his spiritual and mental health practices were highlighted as sources of strength and inspiration. The conversation also touched on the significance of surrounding oneself with a supportive team and the importance of staying true to one's unique sound and creative vision.Takeaways* Networking and staying connected in the music industry is crucial for opportunities and growth. * Resilience and determination are necessary to overcome setbacks and start over in the music industry. * Artists should be aware of the emotional and financial challenges that can arise when their creations become assets. * Music and spirituality can provide strength and inspiration for artists in the face of stress and pressure. * Building a supportive team and surrounding oneself with positive influences is important for mental well-being and success. * Staying true to one's unique sound and creative vision is more important than trying to fit into a specific genre or label.

“Everyones not going to be on the ride with you but you have to let that go because this is where I’m moving and I’m just trying to evolve.” - Trevor Hall

Action:1. Take inventory of your current team. This can be your family or friends helping you too btw. But take some time to step back and look at your team and the systems in place to make sure they are still aligned with your greatest love, music. It may be time to make some adjustments to honor your path.

Today we break down the three pillars that benefit a musician most from building and having a team in place; Your Music, Your money, and Your Life. Let's talk about who YOU need and the advantages these assets can provide you as well as explore the many ways it can increase your success and happiness.Quote:

"There is no such thing as a self-made man. You will reach your goals only with the help of others.” - George Shinn

www.madisonmusiccollective.org The Madison Music Collective is a non-profit organization that encourages and promotes jazz and other improvised music in the Madison area. The Collective aims to present this music to a broader audience -- without compromising artistic integrity or creativity - by providing performance opportunities in respectful settings, through education, and by fostering a community of musicians and listeners.

We are all about balance around here. When you get your career to a “sweet spot,” it often includes a feeling of control and a period of less stress. It allows you to feel confident, happy, and more present in other activities. This is something we want for all the musicians in our community. What we both have found in our journey is that a team is often critical to achieving that balance and experiencing that “sweet spot” while continuing to grow as musicians, businesspeople, and humans!

Today we take this platform and outlet as an opportunity to share in the common frustrations of this life choice we make to follow our calling as musicians and the almost cliche statements we hear far too often from the world around us. We try to give a voice of reason to this rhetoric, and some of the best responses we have heard to combat them.

“A creative life cannot be sustained by approval any more than it can be destroyed by criticism.” – Will Self

"Musicians On Call." Musicians On Call is a non-profit that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients in healthcare facilities. They recruit and train volunteer musicians to perform for patients, providing entertainment and healing through music. While their primary focus is on bringing music to patients, they also offer opportunities for musicians to get involved and give back through their performances. Learn more at musiciansoncall.org for opportunities to give back in your community.

We may all play different styles, different instruments, and even have totally different markets, but one thing we all receive as artists is similar criticism. Often people think they're being funny or even caring by making some of these statements, and although I don’t think any of us really take this stuff too seriously, we are also entitled to discuss these crass statements and some tactical responses we can arm ourselves with on the battlefield.

Today we discuss the stress and anxiety that often accompany the life of a musician. We break down what has helped us and many of the artists we talk to about how best to manage these heavy weighted mental challenges.

SIMS Foundation provides mental health and substance use recovery services and supports for musicians, music industry professionals, and their dependent family members. Through education, community partnerships, and accessible managed care, SIMS seeks to destigmatize and reduce mental health and substance use issues, while supporting and enhancing the wellbeing of the music community at large. Today we discuss putting your message under your performance, allowing it to have a bigger impact. We continue discussing the inspiring journey of the powerhouse that is Andy Frasco.

Quote:“Throw as much SH*T at the wall as you can, one thing is going to stick, I swear ” - Frasco

Little Kids Rock transforms lives by restoring, expanding, and innovating music education in schools across the U.S. Since 2002, they have given more than 650,000 under-served schoolchildren across the country access to fun, engaging music classes and brand new instruments at no cost to the students, teachers, or school districts. Little Kids Rock trains public school teachers and donates all of the instruments, curricular resources, and support they need to ensure that their kids receive the right to rock!

We discuss Colorado resident Andy Frasco’s rise to success, what that really means, and the true value of it all. He has such a powerful story and more drive than anyone in this business. But just as treasure is often found buried in the dirt, nuggets and gems can be found in a dirty mouth. Ha, this is my way of warning younger viewers and those that might be sensitive to strong language to be aware that it’s in the hills of today's episode, but, there’s gold up in those hills mother F$$$er!

Action:
1. Go give yourself and your energy to a fellow musician's show, support them, experience what they are giving, and lean on that community to keep yourself going.

As always, Thanks for joining us, and remember, there is already enough for everyone, you just need to know how to get it. Until next time, on behalf of Dave Tamkin and myself, Chris Webb. Today we sit down with fellow Denver artist and entrepreneur, Andy Frasco. He brings all his experience and drive right to you, so you can find that drive in yourself and go out and do all the SH$t you want in this one life!

Quote:“People are afraid to give their full potential of who they are as a person on stage” - Frasco

Founded in 2000, Guitars in the Classroom trains public elementary school teachers from coast to coast to sing, play folk instruments, write lyrics for learning, and teach all standard subjects through hands-on music and the power of song. GITC’s efforts focus on serving students during their most formative years. This is when foundational skills in speaking, reading, writing, and thinking, as well as interpersonal skills and emotional intelligence, can grow quickly.

You may know Andy Frasco from his music, his live shows, his podcast, or maybe from his inspirational excitement when he talks about music. He is who he is, and that is something he has worked hard to show the world both on and off the stage. And we love him for it. We have known him a longtime,e and it’s such a pleasure to sit down and hear his story and how he found his place in the music business. This is also a good spot to mention that Andy's personality includes all the swear words in the English language, so for any of our young or sensitive listeners, please be warned that there will be strong language. Let's go!

Action:
1. Write down who you think you are on stage, and then read that to a friend to see if they agree.

As always, Thanks for joining us, and remember, there is already enough for everyone, you just need to know how to get it. Until next time, on behalf of Dave Tamkin and myself, Chris Webb. Welcome to Musicians Tip Jar where we talk about musicians and money. Where we play on words almost more than we play on our instruments. I’m Chris Webb, joined by my co-host and musician who practices far more than I do, Dave Tamkin. Today we chatted with Austin, Texas, musician Josh Pearson about how music can be our teacher and growing into who you are as a full time musician.

We are always finding more ways that music not only sustains musicians financially but also helps them grow and find themselves. We choose this path because it calls us, or perhaps it chooses us. It's hard to know, but no matter which it is, it’s clear that our paths are only shown when we follow them. When we listen.

“A big reason how I found a way to make a living playing music was to play other people’s music” - Josh Pearson

Welcome to Musicians Tip Jar where we talk about musicians and money. We believe music can let you experience life with a different kind of happiness. And it spreads happiness by sharing your music. I’m Chris Webb, joined by our co-host and happiness super-spreader, Dave Tamkin.

Many people believe that happiness is a choice. What is your opinion? I like to think it's a series of choices that lead to a state of happiness and perhaps the biggest choice we get to make in the free world is what we do with our time. Our guest Chadzilla is a mint example of this and we discuss how to find places you are valued and how exploring our creativity effortlessly enables our income diversification.

Quote:“If you have the trust and belief to stand up for yourself than the world will reward you” - Chadzilla

Founded in 1979, Swallow Hill Music (SHM, Swallow Hill) is a Denver-based 501(c)(3) organization that strives to positively impact the quality of people’s lives through music. SHM operates a music school and three performance venues at its Broadway & Yale location, and produces outreach activities and community events throughout the Denver metro region as an SCFD-funded Tier II organization with a $6 Million annual budget (2019).Swallow Hill is a nationally-revered hub for concerts, classes, and community, and is a recipient of both the Mayor’s and the Governor’s Award for Excellence in the Arts, and an inductee of the Colorado Music Hall of Fame and Folk Alliance International’s Business Lifetime Achievement awards.

We often forget how powerful sharing creativity can be and how much it affects our audience and community. We feel the need to be creative but it is only by following that need into action and making choices to pursue the opportunities that feel right, that we reap the rewards of this feeling called happiness. Lets explore this further in the second half of our interview with drummer, vocalist, educator, studio owner/engineer/producer, and composer; Chadzilla.

Welcome to Musicians Tip Jar where we talk about musicians and money. Where we think dreams are made of the joy you find in all the little things. I’m Chris Webb, joined by my co-host and the guy always bragging about his little things, Dave Tamkin.

Today we talk about the easiest way to live the life of your dreams simply by starting with the end in mind.

Quote:Finding balance with kids and a music career is hard but if you want to make it work, you find a way to make it work - Stolie

Upon its founding in 1979, Swallow Hill Music offered music lessons and community performances. Originally as a suburbanization of the Denver Folklore Center, volunteers formed what is today’s Swallow Hill Music non-profit following the closing of the Center, with the straightforward mission of bringing “the joy of music to life, every day.” https://swallowhillmusic.org/

It’s often easier in our lives to find excuses why NOT to pursue our dreams instead of why we SHOULD. What if the reason for that confusion in our psyche is because we aren’t clear on where we are going. Where do we WANT to go!? What is your desired destination!? Please enjoy the second half of our conversation with singer AND songwriter, grown-up AND child entertainer, Stolie…

Action:1. Take our favorite step from the Financial scale, G for Growth, and envision your ideal life. Get all of the senses involved and let that place live as your destination. Then trust that the route will be there to show you what turn is next.

What if you aren’t supposed to know what you're supposed to do next in your career until your path shows it to you!? I’m Chris Webb, joined by my co-host and the guy who I never know what he’ll say next, Dave Tamkin.

Today we are joined by the kind, dedicated and driving creative that is Stolie, also known to youngin’s as Super Stolie. We discuss everything from how to make useful merch to how to know when to lean into opportunities that arise.

Quote:So much of my music career has been influenced by just what life has happened along the way - Stolie

Just last summer, Governor John Hickenlooper accumulated local musicians, community leaders and financial backers to give life to his music initiative, in the form of Take Note Colorado. The aim of the initiative is to make music education and musical instruments more accessible to K-12 schools in the state. Back in May, the 1st Bank Center hosted Take Note the Concert, a fundraiser for Take Note Colorado. The star-studded evening included performances from an entirely local lineup — Nathaniel Rateliff and the Night Sweats, Isaac Slade of The Fray, Todd Park Mohr of Big Head Todd and the Monsters, Bill Nershi of the String Cheese Incident, Tracksuit Wedding and comedian Josh Blue. https://takenotecolorado.org

Stolie and alter ego, Super Stolie is a singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, and loop-pedal artist based out of Chicago, Illinois, USA. Working in the music industry for over 25 years now and performing on stages internationally, she's a seasoned pro. A constant road-warrior and absolutely fearless, Stolie immediately turns strangers into friends through her captivating, humorous and versatile live performances. We hope you find as many nuggets about life as a musician in here as we did!

Action:1. Take 5 minutes to ask yourself this question. What has happened recently that is a new opportunity that you feel reluctant or nervous to take? Consider why it makes you feel the way it does and identify if the reason is because you're scared. It might very well be the exact thing you need to say YES to inorder to open that next door.

S3 E1 Musicians & Money: The Movement

Why does it often feel so hard to want to both be a musician and be wealthy today? Do you feel your non-musician friends are always worried about you and your ability to split the check? Whether you're a veteran of this business or just getting your feet wet, let’s unpack this tour trailer load of content in time to actually do a soundcheck and get a clear understanding of how we intend to help resolve this dissonance in season three of MTJ…let’s go!

Today's quote is from Indian businessman Azim Premji;"If people are not laughing at your goals, your goals are too small."

Roots Music ProjectA COLORADO NON-PROFIT MUSIC INCUBATOR : Roots Music Project's mission is to foster the local scene for musicians, fans, and venues. We believe in the power of music to make the world a better place. All music starts locally. We empower artists, audiences and venues to connect and create a thriving and inspiring local music scene. We are based on the Front Range of Colorado. Check out www.rootsmusicproject.org

We want this to be the most valuable resource you have for finance as a musician. But more than that, we want you to feel motivated, energized and even pumped up to follow through with the calling that even lands you here, with us. It’s easy to forget that you started this journey a long time ago. Even if this still feels like the beginning of your journey in the “business,” it still likely started a while back when you strummed your first chord or played your first recital or heard that song that made your heart beat out of control. We are all here, and stay here for the same reason. The calling to do something that feels meaningful. Our own movement. Life is as limitless as you let it be, so is your art… and income if you have the right mindset. Damn, we can feel so boxed in, so limited sometimes in the thick of it. But we are both, Dave and I, living proof along with thousands of our fellow musicians who have met and exceeded their own acceptance of what the pursuit of being a musician for a living could bring.

Remember… you are your biggest limitation. Your mindset and its limits are your greatest challenge to overcome.

Before I start preaching let's get to the point of this episode and catch up and give you as best an outline of what’s to come as we can.

This season is our most focused yet. As often occurs with constant effort, our understanding of what our role is in our community is becoming clearer and we want to do everything we can to help make you a success. That’s why this season is filled with our biggest guests yet, full of success and yet they could be your neighbor. We are asking the questions that you really want to know. Things like “how did you do that” and “how does that work exactly….” But even more, it's a season full of realizations. that wherever you are right now in your journey, you are closer than you think to getting that next big check, that next big opportunity and that the distance between them might just be a simple action that we hope to bring to light.

Email us @ Musicianstipjar@gmail.com with the most important thing you want to know this season, whatever it is. We want to help connect you to your goals and be a part of the journey to make it happen. We will make a commitment to connect you with the answer this season.

Welcome to Musicians Tip Jar where we talk about musicians and money. Here we just keep repeating the message that planning for the unexpected is at the core of having a sustainable music career. Quote:
“Your emergency fund is not an investment, it’s insurance with one purpose - to protect you.” - Dave Ramsey

Today we discuss the value and power an emergency fund gives your art and business. This single note of the financial scale could easily make the difference of making this career a failed attempt or a lifetime of success. We outline how much you should have and how you can make it happen.

Artists at Risk Connection (ARC) safeguards the right to artistic freedom of expression and ensures that artists and cultural professionals everywhere can live and work without fear. Our ultimate goal is to address the needs of artists at risk and the organizations that serve them.

ARC primarily achieves this by:

— ASSISTING persecuted artists by connecting them to our growing global network of resources
— FACILITATING cooperation among human rights and art organizations
— AMPLIFYING the stories and work of at-risk artists as well as raising visibility of the field of artistic freedom

Learn more at artistsatriskconnection.org

We are in the bones of the financial scale now as we talk about E is for your emergency fund. This note alone could have saved so many musicians when the Pandemic took everyone's business to a record scratching stop. The idea is simple enough, have a fund of money that is never meant to do anything except be there in case of emergency. This is like a fire extinguisher. It's there for only one reason and hopefully that reason never happens but damn is it a lifesaver if something does happen.

The goal is to build 2-5 months expenses and keep it in a separate Savings account.

Welcome to Musicians Tip Jar where we talk about musicians and money. Where we think that everything you do should have your stamp on it and hope that nothing you stamp on has any do do. Quote:
“When you get the money, you still need to keep going; You don’t stop. There has to be something else. I think it’s the freedom to do what you want and live your dreams.” - Paul McCartney

When we started musicians tip jar our mission was to create a single resource that could help our community of artists create strong financial foundations around their talents to insure long successful careers. Today we are doing something long overdue in those efforts; shedding light on the ever growing resource that is www.musicianstipjar.com

For many, the term “bucket list” has a negative connotation as it is associated with a list of things to do before dying. For Kaydee Koch, creating a bucket list was simply a way to tap into her creative side, that part of herself that dared to dream bigger and make life more meaningful. She started keeping a bucket list when she was in middle school and never stopped. Kaydee’s bucket lists were bold, colorful, imaginative and inspiring, just like the girl who created them.

Their Mission is two fold: to provide experiences, memories and bucket list dream fulfillment for young adults ages 18-26 diagnosed with cancer or a life-limiting illness; to provide materials and art supplies to younger pediatric patients as a way to share Kaydee’s love of bucket lists and the positive impact they had in her life. Learn more at www.projectssolflower.org

We are, at the center of it all, a podcast. But that is only the tip of the iceberg in what musicians tip jar has grown to be. With the countless hours Dave continues to create and expand the resources offered at musicians tip jar and we decided it was time to shed some light on all of it so we are all more aware of what’s available when you need it. This also gives us an opportunity to experience another area in which Dave is truly a talent, online marketing.

Welcome to Musicians Tip Jar where we talk about musicians and money. Here we believe that the only thing that shreds a guitar player's confidence in their career choice more than Eddie Van Halen is Debt. I’m your host Chris Webb joined by my co-host and the guy who once had a mullet that would even make Eddie Van Halen blush, Dave Tamkin.

Quote:
"There are three kinds of people: the haves, the have-nots, and the have-not-paid-for-what-they-haves." - Earl Wilson

“Good debt is a powerful tool, bad debt can kill you.” -Robert Kiyosaki

Today we dive deep into the depths of debt including its dangers and its desirability including our take on Debt do’s and don’ts. Will be back with all that and less D words,

World Music Development was established in August of 2012 and received its 501-c-3 nonprofit status in May of 2018. We are operated by a volunteer member board of directors with a vision to create global peace through music. To continuously strive towards this vision, our mission is to improve and enhance communities with music, through worldwide artist partnerships, music programs, and nonprofit support. https://worldmusicdevelopment.org/

We are defining bad debt as debt that doesn’t not increase your net worth like assets do. These are things like Credit card debt, Car debt, Student loan debt, and personal debt. Staying in these types of debt costs you in so many other ways as you could be using that money for much better things like growing your business and investing for your future.

Action:
List and add tally all your bad debts one a single page listing them from largest to smallest and create your plan on how you are going to get rid of it and how long it will take. For 99.9% of people this timeline will be 2 years or less.

Over the course of this show we have spent a lot of time talking about both the need to diversify and the idea that doing non-music things is often just a part of the journey. Our guest today, Fabiana Claure, explains that what we have been missing is that all the pieces you do need to be put together as one you.

Women’s Audio Mission is a San Francisco/Oakland-based nonprofit organization and the only professional recording studio in the world built and run by women/GNC individuals. It attracts over 2,000 underserved women/girls/GNC individuals every year to STEM and creative technology studies that inspire them to amplify their voices and become the innovators of tomorrow. WAM’s award-winning curriculum weaves art and music with science, technology and computer programming and works to close the critical gender gap in creative technology careers. Learn more at womensaudiomission.org

In the second half of our interview with Fabiana we discuss the steps she has created to help musicians offer their best to the world. The idea is that you have to package all the pieces of you that you might often keep separated, allowing your business to showcase ALL of your talents that make you, you will draw your best audience to you. Please enjoy the second half of our interview with Music business coach Fabiana Claure.

Consider what talents and experiences from your life are not showing up in your music business and spend some time brainstorming how that could change.

Welcome to musicians Tip Jar, where we talk about musicians and money. Where we show that the root of all evil is not money but actually that A-hole that stole gear out of your buddies van while she was loading out from her gig last night. I’m your host, Chris Webb, Joined by my co-host and the Kevin Costner to this podcast’s Whitney Huston, Dave Tamkin.

As predictable as a Hollywood movie ending, when someone thinks “musician” as a career choice they think; hard life, temporary, dreamer, low-income...As artists we think; all or nothing, complete sacrifice, poor until rich, make or break and often end up accepting a low-income career mindset. Well, we are here to change that, the shift must start with the way we think as musicians and money. Money doesn’t think. What gives money meaning and emotion is humanity, it’s us. So whatever type of money movie you have been watching, grab some popcorn as we discuss the plot holes, right after this.

3Arts works to sustain and promote artists in the six-county Chicago metropolitan area. There is: The Music, The Music Business and The Music Industry. Love the first, learn the second and outsmart the third” - Chris Webb

Many times we have said here that we are in this together with all our fellow musicians and that this career should never feel like direct competition. It does you no good. You need to instead focus on how you are doing within your own goals and business plan. You need to focus on finding the right opportunities and closing the deal when you do find them. Today we discuss the art of closing the deal or as we are calling it, the financial amen cadence.,

If you have been listening to the other episodes from season 2, you have already been introduced to the first three of the seven note scale; A is for advance (episode 33), B is for budget (episode 32) and C is for Clarity (Episode 31). But today’s episode is intended to give you an overview of the scale and give you a clearer understanding on how, when used well, this scale can create beautiful harmony.

We have a unique set of rules in the music business and it only makes sense that our easiest approach to finance would be through our understanding of music. We already have advanced systems for how we write a song, create a production or give a great performance. This is the fundamentals of managing your finances as an artist. We have all learned, some the easy way and some the hard way, that a strong hold on fundamentals just makes what you do better and more effective. Mastering the fundamentals causes there to be less resistance in releasing the greatness you have to offer. That’s the goal here. Give you the fundamentals in this scale to give you your greatest ability to release all you got.

The Financial Scale
A- advance
B- budget
C- clarity
D- debt
E- emergency fund
F- forecast
G- growth

Welcome to Musicians Tip Jar where we talk about musicians and money where we take that “can-do” attitude and turn it into “can-Dough”. I’m your host Chris Webb joined by my co-host and the only person I could find that would put up with my verbiage stretching, Dave Tamkin.

Quote:
David Hawkin’s “your subconscious will only allow you to have what you feel you deserve”

What we believe we deserve, whether conscious or subconscious, life often seems to support. This is why we have all known that one person that knew what they wanted at a young age and sure enough are doing that thing as an adult. While that may or may not bother you when you see their posts on Facebook. Today we are going to discuss a very important factor in success, your mind.

After several tragedies struck the music industry in 2019, dozens of music professionals got together to start Backline, an industry-wide mental health initiative. The organization connects artists, music professionals and their families with mental health and wellness resources. The collective is supported by some well-known names in the music industry, including Circles Around The Sun, Umphrey’s McGee, Cloud 9 Adventures, HeadCount and more. See how you can help Backline at https://backline.care/

We are not here today to pump you up full of false hope or say that everyone will become a wildly successful musician if they just believe in themself enough. But there are some strong reasons people succeed or don’t succeed that are connected directly to our brains. They can run really deep into our upbringing or just be conditioned from our environment. Whatever and wherever you are in this discussion we hope that you will take this chance to check in with yourself and gauge your position and how it aligns with your goals.

Action Item: Adopt your own method of inner communication can be as simple as a short meditation. Use a guided meditation (can be found on YouTube or Headspace) and start by just listening.

If you are a working professional musician (or plan to be), the first step to taxes is getting a handle on your books. So much of the core focus here at Musicians Tip Jar is to reduce the stresses of money so that we have more headspace to be free to create. As we often say around here, you have to treat music as a business, and that means you must document your income. So gather all those 1099s out of your junk box and the scrap paper turned expense notes. We hope you get as much out of this as we did!

Action:
Get out your last years taxes and calculate your actual tax percentage. Using that number you can then make the best decision for what to save each month this year and enter that in your MTJ Forcasting tool. Boom! You probably just got a raise…

“When your energy vibrates at a frequency that is within direct alignment to what the universe has been attempting to deliver your entire life, you begin to live in the flow and true miracles start to happen.” -Panache Desai (spiritual author)

Today we attempt to nail perfect harmony. Not as singers but as artists, as beings in the universe. attuning ourselves to a frequency that makes everything else we do easier and more doable with less resistance. Positioning our energy so that we are open to pursue the interests and passions that pull us into this calling of being musicians. So pull up Lulu’s and grab some granola. We will be right back after this.

Just in case, for those who don’t know, Kenny G is a Seattle born American adult contemporary and smooth jazz saxophonist who has a net worth of around $200 million. The dude may often be the brunt of jokes but he has had a strong career for over 35yrs, selling over 75million albums. His good habits with money are actually pretty well known too, after his first hit in 1980, he took a large amount of the royalties and invested in a new local coffee company called Starbucks…Oh, and by the way, Kenny G doesn't even drink coffee. He has also had success with a few other smart investments over the decades with his album royalty checks including

“It’s lack of clarity that creates chaos and frustration. Those emotions are poison to any living goal.” -Steve Maraboli

Clarity is such a powerful stage to stand on, it gives you confidence, vision and the ability to understand what’s working and what is not. Clarity is what’s needed when you take a solo over a jazz progression so you know what notes will work and what notes to avoid. It affords you headspace to really feel the music in your performance and be present and honest in all your work. Clarity is in the center of your music business. Clarity is middle C.

Being financially skilled a practice and we musicians are all familiar with practice. This MTJ Forecast is meant to become a habit to build into a standard part of your business. So excited to have a chance today to reflect and highlight the year. We will review some of our favorite concepts and principles from season one, highlight a few of the best opportunities at musicianstipjar.com and give a bit of what’s coming next for MTJ in season 2

In 2010, Steve Blatt was hosting a classical music program for Colorado Public Radio. The station celebrated some of the most beautiful music ever composed, even as the news frequently reported cuts to school budgets which reduced or eliminated funding to local arts programs. Steve proposed asking his listeners to share their love of music with our state’s children in a most tangible way. Soon, the first instrument drive was launched, requesting gently used band and orchestra instruments which could be refurbished and awarded to low income students.

Donors understand that they are giving more than a violin or flute. They’re sharing the sense of belonging to a community and pride in accomplishment which they felt. They frequently leave notes tucked in instrument cases, hinting at fun to be had, encouraging practice and thanking the young learners who will give their cherished instruments a new life.

Bringing Music to Life conservatively estimates that 17,000 children have benefitted from the more than 5,500 instruments donated over the last decade. https://www.bringingmusictolife.org

When learning to get really good at something such as an instrument or songwriting. Practice makes perfect is often what we say. We are striving for perfection in order to bring out the best we possibly can in ourselves as artists. But in business, being a perfectionist can often slow down your ability to grow. As your music business grows, you eventually will have too many things that need attending that you simply cannot do alone and be forced to release some control, even if you still believe you can do it best. Today we are going to talk through where being a perfectionist helps you thrive as a musician and areas where it limits growth, so, stick around.

We have had a lot of great interview episodes lately here on musicians Tip Jar and today is no exception. It’s true that the more we can learn from others in our community the better. Especially from those who are not only willing to share their stories but also help prevent others from making the same mistakes. This show has always been about having those conversations, about having people in our corner to set us up for success and prosperity. We are excited to share Jared Judge’s story and resulting solution, Booklive Pro https://www.booklivepro.com/

Bringing together Milwaukee, Wisconsin’S city’s leaders in the arts, business, and civic communities, Imagine MKE is guided by a shared agenda that is rooted in the belief that arts and culture have the power to transform Milwaukee. “How much do you usually charge?” We all have to face this question in our music business. It’s a question that despite its frequency, We still hesitate to answer or at least it feels like it is an answer we are still not sure of. There are always variables that make the correct number change but today we are going to help you know your numbers and create a rate guide. Let’s do this!

We are all familiar with doubt in our lives, sometimes it is obvious, other times it’s hidden in our self-sabotage. It can be action or inaction. It can also spread like a virus through false belief and inaccurate ideas or myths. Well, we are here to offer a cure, and no, it’s not more cowbell.

https://reverb.org
REVERB was founded in 2004 by environmentalist Lauren Sullivan and her musician husband, Adam Gardner of Guster. While Lauren was seeing the power musicians brought to environmental campaigns when she was working at the Rainforest Action Network, Adam was feeling badly about the size of his band’s environmental footprint on tour.
After speaking to a number of other touring musicians who felt the same way, they decided to form REVERB. Lauren reached out to Bonnie Raitt’s manager, Kathy Kane after seeing Bonnie’s Green Highway tour which was an earth-friendly tour that educated fans at shows. REVERB was initially a project of Kathy and Bonnie’s ARIA Foundation until it grew into it’s own 501c3 organization.

REVERB’s early artist partners were Dave Matthews Band, Jack Johnson, Maroon 5, John Mayer and Barenaked Ladies–and continue to work with all of them to this day. Check out REVERB.ORG for more information

Let’s start by diving into the myths we have heard over the years about musicians and money. This is in no way a complete list but is in fact an ever growing one. One thing we artists have proven good at it’s making shit up!

Myths about Musicians and Money:
Unless you’re famous your broke
Musicians can't make middle classes wages
Musicians can’t get home loans
1099s are so important
Musicians can’t retire so don’t plan on it
Being a musician isn’t a sustainable life choice
Musicians can’t have healthy family lives
Only super talented become successful
Taking money for commercial work is sell out
Covering other people’s music is selling out
Writing music for money is selling out (Paul McCartney ex)
- There is no such thing as selling out, except selling out of something, like tickets or merch, which is very real. And very awesome.
musicians get no tax breaks

As a musician it’s better to not claim your income.
WRONGGGG

Since there is so much work I need to do on my music biz it’s better to just not do any

Every musician is different, no two are exactly the same, just like our fingerprints, we all have something unique. Find the place of your work you really love and grow from there. Don’t start from these places of myths.

“It’s not about how much money you make, it’s about how much you keep and how hard it works for you” Robert kiyosaki

The statistics concerning our use of money are not particularly good, especially in the artistic world. Today we are going to refocus to the core concept of this show and give you conversation starters for you to bring to the guitar center acoustic guitar room. Btw, I am on the hunt for more stats if anyone out there has articles or study’s to share it would be a great help to the cause. But let’s talk about where we are at with money and 10 money convos to have with your fellow musicians
Nearly 70% of Americans have less than $1,000 in savings.
25% of Americans have no savings at all.
The average U.S. household owes $7,149 in credit card debt.
40% of Americans spend up to half of their income servicing debt.
Less than 1/3 of Americans use a budget.

As musicians we can sing a song that is so personal to our innermost feelings but clam up when talking about our finances. Just as a song lyric can be said in a way that inspires others, so can healthy money conversations. And the bottom line is if we don’t get control of our finances our dream to be a musician, an artist, an entrepreneur can become unsustainable. Let’s not let each other lose our dreams because of bad financial management.

We need to have these conversations with each other, to learn from each other. So here are 10 conversation starters to have while you sit around for 2-hours after the unnecessarily early soundcheck.10 musicians and money Convo starters:

  1. About what percentage of your income do you take home and what do you keep in the business? How did you decide on that amount?

  2. Do you have a monthly payment on your equipment or gear? how did you decide how much you were going to spend?

  3. Are you currently saving money for retirement? Are you happy with how much you are saving? When did you start?

  4. Do you have health insurance? Can I ask how much you pay for it?

  5. are you doing anything to pay it off school loans, credit cards, car loans or other unsecured debt early?

  6. Do you set a financial budget for your biz? What has worked well for you?

  7. Do you have a process you use for decisions on accepting/bidding on work?

  8. Do you invest any money in real estate or the stock market? Where do you go to find advice?

  9. What is the best piece of financial advice you’ve ever received?

  10. What something you have learned from your financial experience in the music business?

Some of the most valuable lessons in life often come the hard way or at least it can feel hard to accept them. Even when we know these lessons to be true, we resist their reality as we want a different one. Sometimes our resistance is capable of changing the outcome and sometimes it is just swimming up stream. The alternative is learning from those before us, using their experience to tell us where to cross to avoid being taken by the rough rapids of this business. The next two episodes we dive into the waters with Storm Gloor and explore the hidden gems, these survival tactics, that we can take with us from the data of one hit wonders.

Girls Rock Denver formed in 2007 and held our first summer camp in 2008 with 25 rockers and a handful of dedicated volunteers. We've grown each year and in the summer of 2019, were able to support 78 rockers with the help of over 100 volunteers.

We are completely funded by our community, and as a donations-based organization, hold many fundraiser events and work with various community partners to support our organization. As a 100% volunteer-operated project, we are always looking for dedicated supporters to help us sustain and grow our efforts.

We all have been warned about the importance of contracts in our careers as musicians and I’m going to guess most of us have suffered the consequences of not heeding those warnings more than once. And yet, I’m also going to guess, somehow, many of us STILL don’t get a contract for many gigs we play. Even a simple one, as todays guest states, could protect you from not getting paid or help you get your gear replaced when the drunk guy spills his beer and falls on it. Today our guest, Dave Ratner, covers the basics of understanding the value and terms in basic performance and royalty contracts so that you can protect your fanny when the red flags are fling.

Today we are going to help define what the Right of Publicity really is and how all of us, as musicians, need to be aware of how it functions in this business. Similar to a snake in your community garden, it protects your assets from varmints but at the same time can bit you if you sample from your neighbors crop without permission.

As my father has always said, Life is about relationships...and the music business is a people business. All the talk about the newest technology for creating music, all the AI and the hottest, newest platforms for sharing and finding music, when it comes down to the difference, the true tip the scale difference of a knockout, ass kicking successful career or not, the music business is still a people business.

In 1992, Jeff Campbell organized a street musician concert to benefit the homeless and within three years he formed a non-profit organization called Hungry For Music, dedicated to expanding opportunities in music for children. Since then, Hungry for Music has placed more than 11,000 instruments in the hands of aspiring musicians – children whose trajectory has been forever altered by the life-changing gift of music. They have delivered anything from trombones and violins to xylophones and guitars to children in 49 states and 25 countries. Learn more at https://hungryformusic.org/

Welcome to musicians Tip Jar where we talk about musicians and money. We are here to create action not distraction, we push you to focus on the outcome by helping stir clear of the obstacles. I’m your host Chris Webb, joined by my co-host and the guy always blowing up my phone while I’m driving, Dave Tamkin.

Quote:
“Focus does not mean saying yes it means saying no.” -Steve jobs

“Life isn’t about finding yourself, Life is about creating yourself” - George Bernard Shaw

Keeping your focus is an easy thing to say and can be the hardest thing to do. For whatever the reason, this is especially true for many musicians. Like when you walk into a target just to grab Kleenex and leave with 20 items. And not even useful things like cleaners, but a random sign that says “home” burned in old looking wood from their magnolia home collection. I like that show do you like that show? Fixer upper with chip and Joanna Gaines? I’m excited for the new season, they started their own channel now. I need to check in with my cable company to see if I even can get it. I want all my channels al e carte now. I don’t want to pay for what I don’t use. It helps me not get too distracted by too many pointless shows that make it harder to keep my focus... focus.

Takeaways:

Focus means saying no
Multitasking is a myth so choose one thing
Find your love for the process not the result and your focus will soar.

There is a community in every area of our existence. It can stem from family history, location, interests, belief or ambition. Community is the center of every successful civilization and movement in human history. It’s in every city, town and village from Iceland to Italy and in every successful festival, band and genre of music. Today we are going to break down the power of community so you can harness it in your efforts to spread your Italo house music or whatever your vibe is to the world and bring in the Dinero.

After several tragedies struck the music industry in 2019, dozens of music professionals got together to start Backline, an industry-wide mental health initiative. The organization connects artists, music professionals and their families with mental health and wellness resources. Backline partners with a number of health and wellness organizations including Sweet Relief Musicians Fund, SIMS Foundation, and Entertainment Health Services, to name a few. The collective is supported by some well-known names in the music industry, including Circles Around The Sun, Umphrey’s McGee, Cloud 9 Adventures, HeadCount and more. See how you can help Backline

There’s a market and audience for anything thanks to the World Wide Web. Like your aunt or aunt, who keeps selling out of her kitten pattern wall quilts on Etsy. Or That 70s psychedelia resurgence band that is killing it on YouTube with their focus on a heavy saturation of envelope filters or is it envelope filters? You can’t let the semantics of how you define yourself block your game of putting your uniqueness out there. Tomato or tomato it’s still what’s in the sauce that matters. Your uniqueness is your secret sauce. So whether you prefer niche or niche lets serve it up hot.

Sometimes looking too far in front of us in great detail can be taxing on the brain. But, like a 30 minute jam of “you enjoy myself” by the band Phish, we don’t really need to know ALL the details as much as we need to rely on the road map of a planned route and markers we’ve created to keep us on track. This can assure we nail the climactic payoff at the end and arrive at our desired destination. Today we will attempt to simplify the approach to creating a 5yr plan and how to start making headway, daily, towards those far out goals without getting your hair into knots. So hold onto your hula hoop!

Quotes of the week:
Plans are nothing, planning is everything - Dwight D Eisenhower

To achieve great things, two things are needed; a plan and not quite enough time -Leonard Bernstein

How many times have you found yourself thinking about what your life and career will look in five years, as in the specifics? If the answer is not often, that’s ok (for now). Sometimes when comparing why one great jam band is packing theaters and melting faces while another is not, The difference can often be found in the details, or lack thereof.

  1. Dreams - What do you want?
  2. Plan - What do you need to get the thing you want?
  3. Do - 5yr breakdown and daily steps.

Welcome to musicians tip jar, Where we talk about musicians and money. A place where we all have exaggerated stories about “bandaids” and we discuss how to do a self-check on what’s burning to keep the spin-doctor away. I’m your host, Chris Webb, Joined by my co-host, the honorary doctor himself, Dave Tamkin.

We must remember, whether we signed up for this reality or not, if we are to pursue greatness in our art we must simultaneously accept that we must create a financial plan that will allow us to sustain such a noble cause. Just as muscles burn during your 116th push up, as you reach humbling milestones in your life; whether it be your 3th album, 30th birthday or 300th wedding performance, they too can burn. We all risk burnout when the going gets tough and pursuing what we truly desire. Today we are going to address keeping focus on what it is you really want and how to avoid burning out before you get there.

“If you feel burnout setting in, if you feel demoralized and exhausted, it is best for the sake of everyone, to withdrawal and restore yourself, The point is to have a long-term perspective” -Dalai Lama

Today’s ideas;
1 Trust your budget/plan
2 Keep your focus
3 Lean on your community
