Carter Calderon is a 16-year-old singer/songwriter/instrumentalist in the US. She has been studying music since the 5th grade when she auditioned for her local Honors Chorus, which led to her participation in several other music-related organizations. She is currently working towards her major in music therapy by enlisting in dual enrollment through a magnate fine arts program and a nearby college.
Calderon has been writing poetry since she was 10, though it wasn't until two years ago that she started sharing them with close friends. Her music is bilingual due to her Peruvian-Salvadoran heritage. As a proud first generation American, her goal is to build a bridge between her cultures through music. Her songs are a window into her soul, painting memories that she constantly relives in hopes that someone, somewhere feels heard. Common themes in her music are identity, mental health, and inclusion.
Here is Carter’s exclusive interview with Mike and Jeff of Torchlight Productions Recording Studio, where she recorded her first single titled: “If I Could.” Enjoy!
