Family members are our “flesh and blood” and consequently “part” of who we are. However, God is not just a “part” of our lives but it is he and he alone that makes us “whole.” God never meant for us to live apart from him. However, in a world touched by sin we have grown accustomed to this unnatural separation from God. God invited us into ever deeper Communion with himself so that we may be made “whole” and live life to its fullest potential.

Do you need to change your daily routine to ensure you have time to spend conversing with our Lord and allowing him to refresh, guide and empower you?

Rather to encounter the weakness of others, pick them up, dust them off, encourage them and help send them back out into the world, empowered by your love and mercy, to go and “sin no more.”

And beginning every day by asking God, “Lord what do you want m to hear today.” Then prayerfully read the Mass readings and see what the Lord has to say. Reflect and ponder a bit in silence. Then write a brief reflection in a journal, describing what spoke to you in the readings and why. If you are reminded of a particular aspect of your life or feel convicted to address this or that, jot that down as well. This will give the Lord a chance to be better heard and understood by you in 2016. Happy New Year!

There are many things to explain about Christ and his Church…but the most basic thing for us to do…is the same as introducing anyone else, to facilitate putting them in one another’s presence. Think about inviting a friend or family member to join you for Mass or for a silent visit to the Church or adoration chapel. And give them a chance to be in the presence of Christ.

Would you rather die before intentionally committing a sin? This is the spirit of the seven brothers in the Gospel as well as the saints. They are so driven no so much out of fear of punishment but because they know that sin will hinder them in the service of their Lord and King.

Take some time and learn about a Saint. Pray to them and ask for their help, prayers and guidance. Find one that was just as messed up as you are now!!! Marvel at how the Lord slowly led them down a path of transformation and growth.
They have already found what we are all looking for–God! May they help us navigate the journey of our lives, so that we may one day share their friendship forever as we look together upon the face of God.

Forget about me…I love you. This is what FAMILY teaches us. Be open to the lessons God would like you to learn both from your blood family and your parish family as well. Our share in the riches of family life will only be to the extent that we are willing to participate in these schools of forgetting ourselves in order to love more fully.
