In today’s episode, we continue our deep‑dive review of last week’s debate. Pressing further into the kinds of arguments Eastern Orthodox apologists often rely on when biblical support is thin or absent. You’ll get a clear, structured look at why these arguments feel so foreign to many Christians, how they can unsettle people who’ve never encountered them, and what’s actually driving the logic beneath Eastern Orthodox argumentation. Coming off the heels of our Mini Series on Reformation and Counter‑Reformation teachings, I wanted to take an episode to share some thoughts on apologetics—specifically, how we can sharpen our discernment when evaluating arguments. It’s not something we often pause to consider, but when we’re defending the faith, it is vital that we understand the nature of the objections being raised. We need to recognize the assumptions, assertions, and hidden premises that shape an objector’s argumentation.
Far too often, claims are being smuggled in without us noticing, which makes defending the truth far more difficult. But when we use the gifts of logic and reason that our Creator has given us, we can stand firm and give a clear, confident defense of the hope within us.

Eastern Orthodoxy teaches that our works is the cause of what makes us right before God. But what does Scripture actually say? The Reformers aimed to recover this reality, this gospel—the only gospel—of justification by faith in Christ’s finished work and nothing else.

Racism is a hot-button issue that stirs deep emotions, but we must examine it through the lens of Scripture and let God’s Word shape our view of this crucial topic. In the last episode of our mini‑series, we explored the Reformation’s competing ideas about who should read Scripture, what Scripture is, and whether it is clear in itself. We saw a sharp divide between the Protestant conviction that every Christian should read the Bible and the Eastern Orthodox position that, historically, often restricted access to it.
Today we take the next step and dive into the question of the Canon—because whenever we talk about the authority of Scripture, we first have to know what counts as Scripture. We’ll examine why the Eastern Orthodox tradition has no unified or historically grounded way to account for its canon, even among its own theologians, while also looking at the Protestant canon, which has enjoyed consistent historical and theological support reaching back to the time of Moses.
