This weekend South Africa lost an icon in Maulana Ihsaan Hendricks. He was a giant in the international Islamic scholarly community, was a friend to the Palestinian people, an activist in the Palestine solidarity movement and a supporter of the BDS boycott of Israel campaign. He had regular programs on VOC Radio pertaining to Masjidul Aqsa in order to bring awareness of Islam’s most third holiest site and the fight to keep it in the hands of the Palestinians. Tonight we cannot do justice to Moulana ihsaan in this hour, but we will certainly try our best.
This week, humanitarian activists distributed water to the people of Gaza who have been without clean drinking water for days. They did it in the name of Moulana Ihsaan Hendricks as a Sadaqatul Jaariyah. Then we saw pictures of Palestinians reciting Khatams for the late Moulana Ihsaan. Tonight we try and understand why Moulana was so loved by the people of Palestine and what made him stand out from the rest of the world.

Palestine solidarity movements are hoping to reignite the epic Gaza demonstration in 2014 with a mass protest action on the 15th May, known as Nakba day. Nakba Day marks the expulsion of hundreds of thousands of Palestinians from their home land, which lead to the creation of the Zionist state of Israel. The public action will be led jointly by the ANC and Muslim Judicial Council (MJC) together with other organizations in protest against Israel’s recent killing of innocent Palestinians in Gaza including youth and journalists. Tonight we find out more.
