There’s a glut of sports talk radio and podcasts where the hosts are know-it-alls who you would never want to hang out with… Don’t you think? We did.
So in December of 2009 we started ‘Ready to Unload: with Cal and Sanpete’. RTU is a weekly New York Sports-centric Talk Show & Podcast hosted by Steve “Sanpete” Sanpietro and Brian “Cal” Calvi, two guys you can belly up to the bar with to have the kind of great sports discussions you have been having with your buddies for years, replete with movie quotes, obscure stats and busted chops. Cal and Sanpete are joined by their producer, “The Bishop Pop Culture PJ" Cacioppo, a school leaver, of no fixed hair style, who provides the casual sports observer point of view, chimes in on Pop Culture discussions, and provides the occasional "Instant Impression".
The RTU Boys are ‘talking sports WITH you, not AT you’, because it’s sports, not politics or religion; there’s no wrong or right, it’s just great to talk about. The show features all the Yankees, Mets, Jets, Giants, Knicks, Nets, Rangers, Islanders and Devils talk the law allows, while going into all of the NFL, MLB, NHL and NBA, and even the College sports stories of the day, plus guests providing all sorts of perspectives, from sports media members to our friends with great sports opinions. Tune in weekly to the live show or check out the podcast for sports talk where you can crack a beer, hang out, and BS sports.

Welcome back, Kotter(s). We'll reset the table with all the NY sports teams. So much is going on, with the Jets and Giants, Mets and Yankees and our beloved Islanders. We got a big ass reset to do.
B Block
The Mets and Brody Van Wagenen. Does Cal believe? Has Jeff changed? We'll figure out if we're buying, and suggest what we think for the Mets fix.
C Block - AKA - "Apologies to Lindsey Buckingham" Block
Islanders and coach Barry Trotz... I have to type that again. Coach Barry Trotz. Ahhhh... it's wonderful.
THE FUNLOAD:
Will be back soon, we promise...
Ready to Unload: with Cal & Sanpete - #276
Show Rundown - 6-28-18
A Block
The New York Mets. Yup. All of it. A season the likes of which we have not seen in many years. Can they be fixed? We'll take a look, going all the way through all of it. Should be a really enjoyable conversation.
B Block
John Tavares and the New York Islanders. It has come to this... We'll know in about 36 hours for good if the Captain will stay with the only organEYEzation he has ever known. Cal is calm, Sanpete is... not.
C Block - AKA - "Apologies to Lindsey Buckingham" Block
We are men of action. Lies do not become us. We're not going to get to C block tonight.
THE FUNLOAD:
Bishop PJ be with you... (and also with you). He's back! He saw Hamilton last night! He probably has 800 things to talk about! We'll probably settle on something food related!
TU
Show Rundown - 4/2618
A Block NFL Draft! Jets Take Darnold! Giants Take Barkley! Holy underwear! B Block Mets after a hot start have leveled off to 3-6 in their last nine. What are they? Who are they? They are the walrus, goo goo gajoob. C Block Islanders are reportedly reaching out to Lou Lamariello. Yeah. Okay...
RTU
Show Rundown - 2/8/18
A Block Football season ended with a fantastic game filled with fascinating subplots before and after... so we'll lead off with hockey and the Islanders... Just kidding, we'll quick wrap the NFL season, talk about our Super Bowl sundays, and send Jets and Giants into the very short off season. B Block Islanders GM Garth Snow spoke to the media yesterday... it went about as well as it always does. Which is not good. Will the Islanders make a move? What to make of this team on the ice? And the Rangers look poised to sell off for the first time in a long time. Woud they deal with their hated rivals?
THE FUNLOAD™ (a fun, non sports related unload, as led by Bishop PJ):
Bishop Pop Culture PJ is working this week, but he promises he's getting his rest, taking his meds, and clocking what he's eating to talk about next week on the Funload.
RTU
Show Rundown - 2/1/18
A Block Yes, the Super Bowl is in 3 days... but we have something else on our minds. The GM's in NY, specifically those helming the Mets, Jets and Islanders. Are they ever accountable? What should a fan's expectation for transparecny be? When is a GM too arrogant? We'll get into Alderson, Maccagnan and Garth Snow as well as talk about what it takes to be successful as a modern GM in NYC. B Block The Super Bowl... sure, we'll talk about it a little bit. Why not? C Block (aka the "Apologies to Lindsey Buckingham" block) The Islanders and Rangers: a tale of two seasons, both shitty. Plus, Kirk Cousins to the Jets RQ. THE FUNLOAD™ (a fun, non sports related unload, as led by Bishop PJ):
Bishop Pop Culture PJ is off this week, as apparently the last 4 months weren't sufficient off time for him. He'll be back next week, probably talking about his old pal, Oscar™

A Block The Jets have a chance to get to 500 this weekend against a bad Bucs team. Should we be happy? Are we enjoying this? Someone tell us how to be fans! (kidding, please don't). The Giants are in a state of disarray that's, quite frankly, Jets-like. How the season from Hell continues to find new levels of it.The state of the NFL... the protests, the diminished quality of play, an entity that could be the only thing that could ruin itself. B Block The Islanders are 15 games in, and it's been a bit of a mixed bag. One thing's for sure though, Mat Barzal can play. Is Cal easing his way into emotional attachment? C Block (aka the "Apologies to Lindsey Buckingham" block) The Yankees let Georgia Roddy go, and are looking for a new skipper. Sanpete asked a few of his Yankee fan friends who they wanted. The concensus was... uhm, dunno? THE FUNLOAD™ (a fun, non sports related unload, as led by Bishop PJ):
Where have all the cowboys gone? We'll explain.

The Yankees are one game away from going to the World Series. How did they get back here so fast? Sanpete knows... Meet the Afterthoughts, Meet the Aftertoughts, step right up and ignore the Afterthoughts. B Block
Hey you guys, Jets got robbed last week in NE and Cal snapped, like really snapped. Much needed release. Who are the Jets this year? (I am a walrus...) The Giants will now rip off 11 straight wins, because 2016-17 C Block (aka the "Apologies to Lindsey Buckingham" block)
The Islandes are off to a completely middling start. Anything to be excited about? Prolly not. THE FUNLOAD™ (a fun, non sports related unload, as led by Bishop PJ): It's back to the Funload! Pants optional, all opinions welcome! Let's get loose!
Ready to Unload: with Cal & Sanpete - #271 - 10/5/17
SHOW RUNDOWN:
A Block The Mets move on from Terry Collins in the shabbiest way possible. Who will be the new manager? Does it matter? The Yankees in the ALDS vs. the Indians. These Yankees easy to root for, those who root for them are not. B Block Islanders open their season tomorrow. Sanpete is maybe too excited. We'll break down the Isles for '17-18, and maybe get Cal on board with the excitment. C Block (aka the "Apologies to Lindsey Buckingham" block) The Jets are 2-2 playing the 0-4 Browns... are they any good? The Giants are 0-4 and maybe one of the more disappointing teams in NYC in recent memory. Can they turn it around? THE FUNLOAD™ (a fun, non sports related unload, as led by Bishop PJ): It's time for the THOUGHTload... how far are we going out of our way to feel bad and to make others feel worse. Should be a lot of fun. :-o

After the usual chit chat, we got to sports starting with the islanders (22:00) clinging to playoff life and what scenarios see them get in playoffs. We then went to the Yankees (40:00) and letting the Baby Bombers breath a little, and then went to the Mets, the lineup, Cal at opening day, Matt Harvey, Cal's "162 Game Pledge" and how he can use DirecTV to get there. We also got into the instant gratification of the modern sports fan, and how social media has escalated every win or loss into life and death.

Yup... because don't we all need an hour or two of why Cal hasn't invested in the Islanders, why Sanpete thinks the Jets should go ahead and get Tony Romo, and why both of us are completely head over heels for the Mets in 17 right now? Add in Bishop PJ talking about elegant teas and why he won't watch network TV any more AND Soundhound and you got yourself a nice break from, well, all of it.

RTU: #262 - Streaming/Recording LIVE Friday, November 4th at 9:30pm
We're back... again... for the like 11teenth time. Cal, Sanpete and PJ will talk NY Sports, Sports in general, and whatever else catches their fancy for the 262nd time.
Cal and Sanpete will likely go station to station, like James Brown in "Livin' in America", touching on all the locals, the historic 2016 Chicago Cubs World Series, starrting the Chicago Cubs, and perhaps talk a bit about what sports means to them in this anxious time in America. We promise no politics... at all. Really. Not even a dash. But sports fandom, a triviality under the best of circumstances, perhaps is a haven for some looking to escape an extremely nervous moment in America. Or maybe it's not... maybe it's completely insignificant given the gravity of the situations that we face. We dunno, but we'll talk about it.
So join us live, or check out the pod over the weekend on iTunes... aight?

UNLOADING On: We talked... a lot. About everything.
After reconvening the podcast, officially, Cal, Sanpete and Bishop banted successfully for a few minutes, eventually wondering how the commecial shoot for the first Polly-o String Cheese commercial, the famous pizza with nuttin, ever got finished.
Then, onto NY Sports... starting with the Jets, we went state of the team's union style for each of the NY teams, including a pretty indepth discussion of celebration and atitudes in the NFL, through the Cam Newton lens, the Giants with a new leader for the first time in 12 years, a heart to heart about Cal's heart not being in the Islander's season, and the Mets... looking forward to a baseball season for the first time in 8 years.
Then we wrapped with a what are we watching Funload, and Cal and Bishop got deep into Grammy Land.

UNLOADING On: We were joined once again by our old friend Joe Caporoso, managing editor and founder of TurnOnTheJets.com to talk about the Jets - Bills Thursday night tilt, and we got into all of it... from the Jets at the midway point to how we think Jets will attack a very familiar Rex defense. Great stuff, that will get you all set for tonight.
We then welcomed back another old friend, our buddy KMac, the biggest Giants fan in captivity, and after we did the post mortem on the Mets season, we went all in on the Giants (see what I did there?) from Eli to Odell to can they win the NFC East. Kev was a pro through and through, and the man knows NY Giants football like it's his job. (It actually should be).
Then the Funload happened, organically, as it should, where Cal, Sanpete and PJ went all over the joint, from who makes proclaimations, to holidays to how mother's day has fully taken over father's day.

We did the Jets 2-0 start quickly... their defense is the star, not Todd Bowles' defense, and Fitzpatrick: any time you are ready to be a game manager, that'd be great.

There may be some other stuff in there tonight, but man. Then Connor Rogers of Turn on the Jets.com, Bleacher Report NFL and his own new site, NYJDraftCentral joined us to talk a ton about the Jets, Todd Bowles, Geno Smith, practice habits, and blogging and sports media in general. Great spot with a rising star.

RTU: #210 - FUNLOAD - Streaming/Recorded on December 30th, 2014
Time for the FUNLOAD: The year was up, so we listed stuff we liked.. especially with the podcasts.
The boys are back for the first episode of 2015 and it's fitting that the year "kicks off" (see what we did there?) with friend of the show, Joe Caporoso from Turn On The Jets. Joe Cap will join Cal and Sanpete to talk about the Jets search for a new GM/coach, and if it's necessarily the end of the world as we know it if it's not quite in that order. The Giants are in search of a defensive coordinator, who's it going to be for Big Blue? It's also 2 days removed from Sanctimonymania! and the fellas will talk about the baseball Hall of Fame selections and Piazza-Gate.
All this, along with a little hockey talk, a check in on Bishop Big Doughnut's eating habits early in 2015, and maybe Bed Bath and Beyond... if there's time, if there's time. Tonight, 10:00 EST, Ready to Unload with Cal and Sanpete. Be there!

RTU: #210 - Recorded on Tuesday, December 30th 2014
Main Course: Black Monday came in the NFL and smacked no one harder in the face than the Jets... (except maybe the Chicago Bears, as big a mess as the Jets, just without FireEMERY! Banners) Cal and Sanpete will go heavy into what happened, what will happen and what we would like to happen. Plus, the Islanders have more wins before the first of the year than they have ever had in franchise history... yet we're somewhat unhappy. Just too many years of sucking, or are our concerns legit? (le what? LeGIT!) Plus the battle to be a real fan... do you need to put up a billboard to be considered passionate? Or can you just, ya know, root for your team.
FUNLOAD: Bishop Big Doughnut asks the rhetorical, meandering question, why do NPR shows have to ask so many rhetorical, meandering questions? Looking at you, Serial.

RTU: #208 - Streaming / Recording LIVE Wednesday, Dec. 17th at 10pm ET
Main Course: PJ was astonished to know that Bing Crosby sings White Christmas in the movie White Christmas, serously. Then we went full on with Cal's disenchantment with theMets playoff talk, and the hope of liking the team so much you can ignore the manager and GM. Plus Fire Idzik crew speaks for all Jets fans, except they don't, and the Bears and Phil Emery are going through same thing as the Jets, even worse... where are the billboards? Tee Shirts? Planes flying banners? All the things that tell us what REAL fan does. Aren't Bears fans real NFL Fans? And the Islanders getting over the hump. Is JT hurt? Cal's working on a mystery.

RTU: #207 - And you can Tell Everybody... that this is your Show...
Main Course: A Tale of Two Fans. Cal is feeling a lot of things about his teams, namely the Mets and Islanders and 93.3% of them are not good. Sanpete is way more optimistic about said teams, and has the chin up to prove it. And of course, they both are completely pessimistic about the Jets, so they have that. We'll get into it, because man... it got heated after last night second straight Islander 3 goal blown lead and loss. We got into a ton of sports as we lost the Bishop early to a flu bug he picked up as a Ball Man at the all England Tennis Tourney. Long story.
And hey... it was five years ago today (or yesterday) that we started this here thing. Things were different then. Pikes Peak was an ant hill... We'll take a look back at 5 years of doing this.

Main Course: We were off for Thanksgiving last week... there is a complete ton of stuff to talk about, from the fact that both NY football teams might soon have new coaches, to Mets fans being sold optimism on talk alone, and buying it. And the Islanders are the best team in NY, in any sport, and it's not close... we'll get into if this is awesome and bittersweet at the same time.
It's the Holiday season... whoop dee do? Well, we'll just see about that...

Then we took about the Jets implosion, and made the case for John Idzik to be kept and to be let go, examined Rex Ryan's place in the draft failures of the last 6 years, and took Jets fans to task for making it personal with Eric Decker's wife. BIG UNLOAD: The battle for Lord Stanley's Cup features a NY team... so we have to. And we will.
A lot of conversation about what to call the new segement...we settled on RTU: Off-Roading, Off-Putting and Burying the Lead.
The Mets make you feel good for about 10 minutes. It does not make up for the other 6 months, 23 hours and 50 minutes of misery.
We talked a lot about colognes we wore when we were kids...
NEW SEGMENT ALERT: RTU OFF TOPIC - We're going to try to do this every episode, taking what we really enjoyed from last episode. A conversation about something sports related that's not related to current sports events. Last week we got into legalizing some performance enhancing drugs for sports and the NFL lawsuit regarding drug abuse as condoned by the league. This week we talked about how NY over-celebrates it's players.

Yankees... uhm, they're really old and are battling injuries. This is a surprise?
From now on on RTU, if you want to pretend to be someone asking Sandy Alderson a question, you must do so as Danny Zucko. We also discoverd Sandy VedderSon, GM of the Mets and grunge rock icon.
Rangers in the ECF... Sanpete makes a King Size apology, sorta.
NBA Playoffs. We hadn't a tirade in a good long while. Sanpete changed that. He finds the inconsistency in officiating coupled with the preferential star treatment makes close games unwatchable.
PJ had the greatest ever "ask me about..." from a stranger yesterday. We discussed what we secretly hope some stranger asks us if we're familar with.

Sandy Alderson gave us a February gift today, with the story leaking that he has raised expectation levels for the Mets this season. How do Met fans react? By destroyinig him, of course. Plus the Face of MLB contest has Met fans up in arms because their team is asking them to act like... well, fans. We addressed "90 Win-gate", "90 Win-a-geddon" from every angle, and concluded we're pretty okay with Sandy Alderson raising the expectation bar.

Cal and I then got into the fascinating Yankee off-season, which we wish was a reality show that had Yankee brass living in a house with a confessional, and then had an Islanders getting national pub conversation, and then, the great Top 3 favorite snack cakes discussion. It had to happen.

The Wind Up Shop - Audio Recording | Mixing | Mastering
Recorded on 1/16/14
We were visited by our old friend in Indiana Elwood who talked Manning and Luck and Pacers and cajun cooks... we talked ARod, Rex Extension, and how no one told the NFL Draft was in May.
We managed to discuss a Cal co-worker's butchering of cliches and sayings, Sanpete threw in several amalgamapressions, and Bishop blew our minds by asking the question: How do you do an impressino of Rich Little?
Bishop PJ then told us about an award show called The Hall of Game, on the cartoon network, which, we're not entirely sure isn't completely made up.

Episode #159 - Consider the Salad
Recorded on 1/9/14
We got back after it after a month off, and it was an excellent 2 hours of sports and other stuff talk. The sports landscape here in NY, no matter who you root for, is pretty bleak. Cal has basically morphed into Debbie Downer, Sanpete hasn't bought his Mets hat for 2014 (a very, very bad sign).
Add to that the current state of sports discourse here in the city is about as fun as a date with a rabid jackal and you can see we are facing our greatest challenge in four years of doing this show... can we make this sh*t fun again???!!!! Well, we did. We figured out that there's an oversaturation point with the negative narratives surrounding the teams in our town, so we started the ball rolling on tuning it out and just enjoying the damn games, both watching and talking about.
Along the way we talked college sports fan allegiance, Rowdy Roddy Piper book titles, doing celebrity impressions while reading books to your kids to keep it interesting, and why PJ shouldn't be eating "tall BLT's", calls himself buddy when he talks to himself, and begs us to "consider the salad".
We then had a quick discussion about shower habits... for some it's a business trip, for others, a vacation from themselves.

The Big Unload: We are in our 5th season of the show and for the 4th time at this time of the year, the Wilpons did/said something stupid that absolutely had to be talked about. This has become our Thanksgiving Special episode and this one was a classic, with special guest the Food Network's Guy Fieri! (Not really, but could have been!) Some seriously great conversation about Alderson, the Wilpons and the state of the Met fan psyche. And we talked some Yankees too. Robbie Cano don't you know? Don't you???

Can and Sanpete fondly recalled Smithtown Baseball Camp and Coach Craig Biggio, Sanpete talked of memories of his parents attending night of 100 stars in 1982, and how Powers Boothe is dead, the great Margot Kidder debate, (her?) and why Cal was a career second basemen. We also managed to have a great Mets conversation, albeit a brief one, about how Sandy Alderson may have jumped the shark for Cal, and Sanpete will not spend any more money on the Mets (until he does again). Ready to Unload: with Cal & Sanpete NY Sports Talk Podcast - Episode #140 Episode sponsored by: Blue Haven - NYC's Sports Bar for Grownups Recorded on Tuesday, May 14th Subscribe to the RTU: Podcast on iTunes BIG UNLOAD: Cal has suffered a number of serious blows to his fanhood over the years, but this might be it... tonight, this might actually be it. Between Islanders ousting at the hands of the hated Penguins, to the Mets complete disintegration into a non-competitive, unwatchable mess 4 out of every 5 days, to the Rangers winning their series in 7 games, to Jet fans and writers alike running down the team on a daily basis, he is seriously going to snap. Luckily, Sanpete is there to pick up the pieces. Yes, we realize the "Cal/Sanpete is Mad as Hell" show is becoming a seasonal ritual, basically like a Christmas Episode for us, but just like those sitcoms that did it well (so, not like, Darma and Greg), they're all different, all potential classics. And who doesn't like to hear Cal unhinged, besides his kids? Besides, he thinks he has the answer to the Mets problems (and Sanpete thinks he's right). RTU FUNLOAD: Why don't your kids like what you want them to like? Kids are stupid.

Is it fair? Should there exist two sets of rules? How can sport be so arbitrary? Does it cheapen the fan's experience? We'll talk it out... Islanders, Rangers, Knicks, Mets, Yankees, Jets... in some way shape or form. We can hit on all of them, and will. Beat reporters still think they are the only ones who have access to a team. A tweet about Matt Harvey takes us back to a show from last year...

Then we talked about Van Halen playing Twister, Helen Hunt's career, which leaves us cold, and The Outfield's blind keyboard player, and it's all rather cohesive, actually. THE RTU FUNLOAD: Jason Collins became the first active athlete in the four major sports to come out... we talked about what that means, should mean and can mean to us through both sports and cultural prisms.

It was fantastic. We then talked about our super bowl watching experiences, and answered some of these questions: What's the best jar pasta sauce? PJ has worked on a NEVE board like the one in Sound City? Mel Brooks blessed Sanpete and his wife on their second date? What? Yup. We get to it all.

Frank Stallone as the worst improv actor of this, or any other, generation. Ray Lewis, Brendon Ayabendejo and Chris Culliver at the Super Bowl. Much to say about what was said. The Mets held a Q&A for season ticket holders and Cal was there. He has a full report. A little on the latest PED scandal in baseball, and how over the PED discussion in baseball we are. The FUNLOAD: Jason London's agent has a plan to make him relevant again. It's not a great plan. And Blinded by the Light, both Manfred Mann and Springsteen. How did that happen?

This led to us discussiong, not necessarily in this order: Dan Fogelberg's Leader of the Band Christopher Cross' Ride like the Wind with Michael McDonald, and Cal's killer impression of the aforementioned Doobie Brother. Movies we saw on Thanksgiving Eve, including several we were way too young to see. Sanpete's realization that "Bird" from Wildcats is Mykelti Williamson, and misprounouncing his name. A discovery that just flopping around on IMDB is sorta fun to do with friends. FOODS OF THANKSGIVING... PJ's list of things he has had over the years, some of which are just ridiculous. It was a heck of a lot of fun... hope you enjoy... Next LIVE REMOTE from BLUE HAVEN is Tuesday, Dec 4th... Please subscribe to the RTU: PODCAST on iTunes

It took lots of interesting places, including: Who WAS Rube Waddell? A stat nerd session about Walter Johnson, Sanpete's obession with WIlt Chamberlain, the Babe Ruth discussion, what would medical science mean for all time greats, Jari Kurri was very good, Cal's obession with Warren Moon, Tommy Lee Jones impressions, who are current players that are in the "best ever" discussion, and Sanpete's wish for Adam Vinatieri's first name to have been Anthony. While overusing the cliché "the boom is off the rose", the guys talked about what has gone wrong with the Mets for the last two and half weeks, who is accountable, who had a motive and who should be here next year. We also gave the Yankees a little bit of yapping as they traded for Ichiro. -- NFL Training Camps open today... and Jets are already Camp Chaos. -- “Everything about (Swisher) is annoying, from his mannerisms to his always wanting to ‘bro’ it down,” an unnamed American League veteran told the magazine. “Being around him is just exhausting.” We discussed what the hell bro'ing it down might be.
-- PJ talks about revealing his navel during band gigs. Sanpete wonders if Bono did the same thing to kill time between songs.

Ready to Unload: with Cal & Sanpete
Here's a bit of what we talkeda bout:
-- THE BIG UNLOAD: Sanpete has a bone to pick with... Sanpete. He has been saying since the Teblowsion that he doesn't like religion and politics mixed with his sports... and then Bill Maher went and bought a minority share of the Mets... So it seems mixing those things are fine, as long as they are Sanpete's politics and religion. Cal and Pop Culture PJ will talk him throught it.
-- The Mets were on the highest of highs, but 3 straight losses have Cal feeling his "good things even out for the Mets" thing again, so Sanpete talks him out of it.
-- The Subway series: The Tale of the Tape
-- RTU FUNLOAD: Sanpete is visting his mom in Florida, so we discussed all the food his Italian mother is going to be providing. Then, a bit about The Olympics: Do we care? Bishop Pop Culture PJ is doing a lot of work on them. He'll tell us what he's working on, and why we should care, dammit.

Episode #3.21 - RTU: The Movie
Here's a bit of what we talked about:
-- THE BIG UNLOAD: Took a while to get there, after Sanpete's rambling Mike Tyson/Gary Payton NBA All Star Game party story, but when we did, we talked Mets and Yankees 50 games into this, and dispelled the Omar gets credit notion.
-- Somehow we talked about "Cop and 1/2". A lot. But in a good way.
-- Credit given in bucketfulls to Jeff Cappelini @greenlanternjet on twitter, for his fantastic piece on the Jets offseason, and the narrative Jet fans are beign forced fed.
--And we talked about last Sunday's New York Daily News, where two columnists, 5 pages apart, completely contradicted each other about how the Sanchez-Tebow situation is going to be reported on in training camp and then had Dr. E Ray Stat let us in on a great quote from Bill Polian that backed us up on the subject.
-- Why is the pomposity and bluster of John Tortorella "refreshing and honest" to some, yet the pomposity and bluster of Rex Ryan "disgusting" and makes him a "clown". And also speculated on if perhaps King Henrik Lundquvist gave himself that nick name.
-- RTU FUNLOAD: Started out as being about Podcasts and Sports talk radio, quickly became a casting of "RTU: The Movie" coming to you never from Mirimax and Foxserachlight.

Here's a bit of what we talked about:
-- THE BIG UNLOAD: The Steinbrenner's looking to sell the Yankees?? And how much "Anonymous Source-ery" can one Daily News Paper's sports writers get away with? We talked about it all while using 1987 stereotypes.
-- Holy Hockey. Rangers- Devils series has been fantastic, but has made Sanpete realize something: He might not be able to handle Islander playoff hockey as an adult. He'll talk it out with Cal.
-- RTU FUNLOAD: Memorial Day weekend is upon us, a time of reflection and appreciation for the brave men and women who have made the ultimate sacrifice in defense of our Country and all we value and hold dear. We'll talk about how sports weaves into the fabric of America, and how it plays a part in celebrating our Country this weekend. And we talked about what sports tattoos we would get...

Here's a bit of what we talked about:
-- THE BIG UNLOAD: After heartily welcoming ourselves back from our week off, reminiscing about our first cars, discussing what reality shows Bishop Pop Culture PJ was working on and Sanpete unveiling a (what he thinks is) a solid Scottish dialect, we finally got to Big Unload, a great discussion about how fans of certain teams defend themselves when challenged. Example: Me: The Yankees rotation is really suspect. Yankee Fan: Yeah, well the Mets suck. Now is that justice, your honor?
-- We got into Rangers- Devils series, but good, and discussed what John Tortorella owes the NY media.
-- A big Cal Unload about beat reporters, twitter and antagonism. Fantastic stuff.

Here's what we talked about: -- We went big on round 1 of the NFL Draft with ilve coverage starting around pick 15, and continuing right through the Champion Giants pick at 32, with our NCAA, Draftnik and Equal Opportunity Giant Fan buddy Hubie and were joined by first time RTU'er John Hargeden from SNY.tv's theJetsBlog.com with instant analysis of the Jets pick, and then a cavalcade of excellent calls from friends including the Hebrew Hammer, who made an argument and talked Jets and Pineda and Cashman, Steph the Jets fan, who, being a DE himself brought instant credibility to the show, and of course, our Kiper, KMac, who engaged ina fantastic discussion with Hubie about best player available combined with need, how certain schools produce certain positions that you can trust in, and how certain teams have MO's in their drafting that they stick to. All the while sharing some of our favorite draft day memories, talking about how it's hard out there for an old school Jets fan these days, and why the Thursday, Friday, Saturday draft format is both a great thing and a tough sell to get to watch all of. -- Then we talked about the new Muppet movie. Cause, ya know, we had to get PJ involved.

Here's a bit of what we talked about: -- An indepth discussion of macaroni, spaghetti, breaking it in half when putting it into the pot, using a fish as method of child abuse, fear of a wood spoon, no fear of a flung slipper, and PJ saying no. A lot. No. A million times no. -- The NHL playoffs have been great but too violent? Not for us. And Sanpete continues his Anti-Henrik campaign. -- The Yankees rotation has been shaky, so we talked about how big Michael Pineda might be. -- Mets got off to a hot start but have struggled of late, and why the Jose Reyes video thing was more than much ado about nothing. -- We talked Bobby V, found out Cal does a mean Bobby V, brought in our buddy Nello to do the RTU Funload but instead talked Bobby V, and told the story of how Nello and Sanpete, NOT Bobby V actually discovered the wrap sandwich, first known to us as the rollwich.

Episode #3.14 4/12/12
Here's a bit of what we talked about:
-- Cal was exhausted, which we found out, causes him to speak in a dialect of a long lost Jersey Shore house member. This inspired an inspired conversation about the new Italian American from NY sterotype, and to PJ letting us all know the Brooklyn Italian accent is all because of the Dutch. Yes. The Dutch.
-- We then actaully talked about sports, namely, the Rangers and playoff hockey, and the Knicks as a dangerous team should they make the playoffs.
-- Then the Match Game conversation started. Too much to list here, but we learned Sanpete loves Nipsy Russell and Cal somehow knows who Brett Summers is/was.
-- We had a spontaenous VH1 "Sanpeteology", where poor Cal was regaled with stories of Sanpete and PJ's band days. Riveting for Cal, no doubt. Fun listening if you a) knew Sanpete in the late 90's, or b) have known PJ for the last 20 years or c) understand how much both Sanpete and PJ love themselves.
-- Then we talked baseball, Mets, Yankees, and Ozzie Guillen. Got a little political up in there. But in a nice way. In doing so, we found out Marge Schott was a terrible, terrible person.
--In the RTU: Funload, we talked about the actual trophies in the 4 major sports, and compared them to the awards for acting. Very funny. Promise.

Then PJ revealed his rap name while sipping on a microbrew.
-- The Yankees rotation and what we except from the Boys in the Bronxstripes this season.

Here's a bit of what we talked about:
-- After properly being made fun of for watching American's Next Top Model, Sanpete then asked the uncomfortable question: "What would you like to have poured over you". Not sure what happened there, but it was funny. He also did a Dan Ackroyd as Ray Stantz as Obi Wan Kenobi. Also funny.
-- We talked about Tebow, the Jets, why we are now behind it, even though we hate it, and uhm, actual football stuff about using him. It was refreshing.
-- We then welcomed SNY.tv Mets Blogger and Mostly Mets Podcaster Patrick Flood back to the podcast, and proceeded to engage in a calm, measured and intelligent conversation about the Mets and baseball. Super refreshing.
-- The boys explained to PJ why they refer to their Fantasty Baseball draft as "Draftmas" and why it's the most wonderful day of the year. He still doesn't get it. We then made fun of Twins sequel... because, well, everyone should.

Episode #3.11 -Technical Tebow Difficulties
3/22/12
Here's a bit of what we talked about:
Tim Tebow's a NY Jet, and the boys spent a good amount of time talking about it. We battled through a temperamental night from Skype and had some tech difficulties that have be cleaned up when Pop Culture PJ gets back from Beautiful Mount Airy Lodge, then took on our problems with conflict resolution in a sports chat room. It also turns out we all do a passable Walter Matthau impression. We had a great discussion on the negativity contained in and antagonistic bent of media coverage of the "little brother" teams in NYC, and how your friends seemingly taking joy out of your misery and consternation concerning the teams you root for is getting more than a little tough to take.

He was VERY convincing; Mike D'Antoni was relieved of his coaching duties, we discussed what went wrong for him, and who are the best managers/coaches for superstars; PJ and Cal share bathroom renovation sob stories (while Sanpete the renter quietly giggles) and we closed with a discussion of a New Zealand Tae Kwon Do Olympic hopeful who started an escort service to raise money for his Olympic dream. And how PJ's son Danny, no escort service, but at age 7 is one of the youngest high brown belts in the state of NJ. How'd that happen?

We were thrilled to have Dr. E Ray Stat back from sabbatical for the first half hour of the show, discussed his whereabouts, and the reality show PJ has been working on. (Hint, it's not good... it's great!) We then welcomed our buddy Jeff Troxclair, a huge Saints and sports fan to the show for the first time to talk bounties in the NFL. He was fantastic, and the conversation ranged from the punishment for the Saints, to explaining to him why PJ is "gay framed" to John Fourcade. Then it was Scott Sanpete's turn to try to convince his bro that Peyton Manning is a great idea for Jets. He's VERY CONVINCING! (Said as George Costanza) Find out how he did. The ball got rolling with a discussion of the February Sports Dead Zone ending with March beginning, which led to both Walken impressions and Sports Night by Aaron Sorkin talk, where Sanpete did an impromptu Sorkin "Walk and Talk". Cal then told us all about Parent-Child Sports night, and the secret of parenting. Literally. Hint: it's a Microsoft product. Cal and Sanpete both provided valuable The More You Know type promos. We then tackeld the Mets and Yanks in Spring training, and Cal learned Sanpete already caved on his vow to not spend money on the Mets, getting both a new hat AND opening day tickets. We talked MLB playoffs expansion, Ryan Braun, and then in the RTU: Funload: A plea for MLB players to wear their hat's correctly, followed by us sending back the soup.

2.23.12
Here's a bit of what we talke about:
-- After establishing what a gut check it was for Cal to be doing the show last night being he had bronchitis, that he would be taking it one podcast at a time, the good Lord above, he'd be able to help the RTU team, the boys talked about Jeremy Lin and how cliches can apparently get you fired if they are used incorrectly.
-- Ryan Braun's exoneration was next, and we learned that the court of public opinion ain't got nothing on the court of CAL's opinion, where, in this case, Braun remains... guilty. Pop Culutre PJ regaled us with his impression of the 3 judges from Superman II, and Sanpete steered the show to his Adam Samberg doing Mark Wahlberg Impression.
--We then tackled the Mets brass and their private helicopter ride displaying bells the size of church bells. -- Wrapped it up with a bow with a discussion about the re-watchability of "Boogie Nights", and PJ's parenting tips.

-- Tech difficulties at the top ruined a well thought-out, pre-meditated rhyme Sanpete had prepared for his opening intro of Cal; PJ defines our roles on the show, and surprise, he's the heavy; we took apart Madonna's performance at the SB halftime show, and tried to figure out who M.I.A. is. Then we talked about "Worst Case Scenario Bowl II", what we saw in the game, why we think it was Tom Brady's fault the Pats lost, why Eli Manning is now a top 3 quarterback in the NFL, and how the Giants are the NFL version of the Yankees here in NY. The Swami celebrated picking the perfect post season and got in some last zingers for the season, Sanpete explains his new favorite euphemism, "forcing the Improv" and in the FUNLOAD, we discussed John Tavares growing stardom as saving sports in this dark rooting time for Cal and Sanpete, and we figured out some analogies for this in music and television.

Here's what we talked about... For our big Super Bowl show, entitled "Worst Case Scenario Bowl II", the boys managed to talk about their friend Keith's Band, Sister Shakedown, as said by a NY Italian, (Sista Shakedowwn), and PJ chimed in with an instant impression of George Gaines, better known as the benevolent old man from Punky Brewster. Then it got weird. Sanpete talked about why he'll never "have an edge" and Cal told us about his 8 year old daughter's Super Bowl numbers. WE eventually talked about the game, and The Swami made his bid for an 11-0 postseason of picks. We closed the proceedings with a frank discussion of Super Bowl Party food. And more Punky Brewster.

PJ started the show with 1 forced nickname, and finished with 5 organic ones, and the fellas asked that all non-Mets fans leave the Met bashing to them, then they did just that, ripping the Mets for not retiring numbers. Cal has a problem with "The Scapegoating of the Left Fielder Jason Bay by the Beat Writer David Lennon", Sanpete has a problem saying John Krasinki's name and with his MLB Commercial, and PJ has problem with his Andy Garcia impression. Below is a link to Phil's blogspot: http://newyorksportsembassy.blogspot.com/
Nutty "sweeps month" trade proposals, losing faith in David Wright, Scott the Islander fan telling us about a new arena, and why Cal is allowed to watch one NFL game live a year. Plus, Sanpete butchers an old saying, and Pop Culture PJ likes Roller Derby. http://rtusports.com
Check out the podcast of RTU #1110... KMac dropped all sorts of NFL draft knowledge and a few stories about Sanpete's college NFL Draft daze, and Jay Linder was optimistic about the Knicks, the Giants and the weather, not so optimistic about his chances to get to the movies this summer. The Jets and Giants were covered like a WR by Darelle Revis, and the fellas took a quick peak around the NFL to boot. Dave Rutly from FFADVISOR.com dropped by for the Fantasy Five, and admitted he is a dyed in the wool Redskins fan, while still dropping the fantasy football knowledge like it was hot. They got great calls from Rick from PA, who had a mea culpa for Mark Sanchez, and Dan “The Sensible Yankee Fan” from Manhattan, who came to Dr. E Ray’s defense as Cal and Sanpete applied the “Met-lachi Crunch” to him about the Yankees. They had a fantastic RTU: Funload about why we root for the teams we do, and the Swami called in to complain about his lack of airtime, and make picks for the upcoming NFL week. Join us next week for Episode 5 and check out the site during the week for new Blog Unload content!
Ready to Unload Ep. 3, as Cal said last night, will forever be known as the tornado episode. Our fearless coh-ost Sanpete battled mother nature last night just to make it back to his home. Fortunately, Dr E Ray was able to put aside his usual facebook surfing to join Cal for 2 hours of Jet bashing, Yankee talk and even a little college football. Yes you heard me, college football. Sanpete, the true professional that he is, made it in for the funload where the boys tried to figure out why its just not worth it to see NFL games live anymore. Hopefully you’ll check out the show if you missed it, and we’ll be back live on Tuesday 9/21/10.
Ready to Unload 9/7/10 got off to a rocky technical start, but the RTU Boys, minus Dr. E Ray, got back on the horse and didn't let that deter them from delivering 2 solid hours of great NY sports talk, and the NFL took over and refused to relenquish its hold on the show. Sanpete and Cal went with it, and in end they went around the league in 80 minutes. Great calls from PJ from NJ, The Godfather of Jets Fans Big Paulie, and of course the Swami with his first spate of predictions. Join us next week when the boys will be whole once again, and where the Pennant Races, NFL week one, and maybe a little college football (that's right) are the topics du jour.
