What does it look like today for us to have extravagant devotion to Jesus?

- We remind ourselves of what Christ has done by meditating on his word.

Our devotion is to a person.
- Not to a cause, concept, idea, doctrine.
- What gets your heart more excited than anything else? That's what has your devotion.
- 3 things that compete for our love:
- The World

Our devotion should be extravagantly expressed
- Live for the eternal
- Where would you have us give more devotion to you?

Prayer is not a Christian duty. We gain Christ through prayer.
- Don't pray religiously to get the favor of men.
- Don't pray religiously to get the favor of God.
We don't have to manipulate God to get him to answer our prayers.

If you are a believer, it means 3 things:
- If you want to gain Christ, you need a steady commitment to pursue him.
- If you want to gain Christ, you need a single minded focus.
- If you want to gain Christ, you need to cultivate your hope in Christ.
Commit yourself to growing in the knowledge of the Lord through reading His word. Commit yourself to memorizing the Word. Commit yourself to sharing in Christ's sufferings. Commit yourself to evaluating what you need to leave behind in 2010 that's eclipsing your joy.

Hunger is good because it reminds us that we need food.
- Hunger is good as long as it's the right kind of hunger, for the right kind of food.
