What happens when you find a 5 year batch of bottled Mr Beer you forgot about in a cooler in your garage? You fire up the camera and drink it!

Sometimes the best-laid plans don't always lead the result you want.Making 10 beer styles before the Sunshine challenge has been fun so far and I've learned quite a bit along the way.But with the days ticking down the to the competition the reality set in with the question "what is it you're actually trying to accomplish?".In answering that question, I've re-arranged my schedule and this self-imposed challenge with the time remaining for the Sunshine Challenge Home Brewers competition. This video lays out the details. How many things can go wrong in a single brew day? That answer is in this episode, and it all happens while I’m making a style that I know nothing about. But that’s the point of this, to get to know what a Trappist Single looks, smells, and tastes like, and to see if I can make on myself. In the end, it this ends up being drinkable, there’s likely no way I’ll ever be able to duplicate this batch again.

This is a big beer, and I need to make sure there's enough yeast to ferment everything. In Part 2 covering the Old Ale, I start off by checking on the current state of the fermentation then propagate some more yeast from my yeast bank to make sure there's enough to finish this beer properly. After bottling and condition, I give the Old Ale it's first taste after 30 days. After finding 2 Old Ales on tap in 2 different breweries, I figured it must be some kind of signThis is my first, and I'm reasonably sure not my last, attempt at an English Old Ale. I have wanted to try my hand at an Altbier for a very long time. It's one of those things that always seemed to get put on hold when something else came up. Yet, another great thing about these style challenges. Not saying it forces me to finally try making it an altbier, better said "it gives me the unique opportunity" to try. (Now you see how my inner voice works when it comes to brewing beer). It is style 7B, part of Category 7 Amber Bitter European Beer in the BJCP Style Guide.I've got another strain of yeast lined up for this, White Labs WLP03 Dusseldorf Alt Ale Yeast. I'm not testing or experimenting with this yeast in this series, I'm using it on the overwhelming recommendations of homebrews both in-person and online.Again, can't wait to see how this comes out. It's another style to tick off in the challenge and one I've really wanted to try for quite a while.

Going for another first time style this brew, the California Common. It's a style I know well and would love to add to my rotation of beers on hand.

I'm using the Imperial Cablecar L05 yeast strain again for this one. It ferments warmer than most lager strains but ages well with of lager time.

Everything sounds so simple, what could possibly go wrong? Check out the episode and found. Becuase it does.

Another new style and yeast trial combo episode. A German Pils fermented at an Ale temperature with the L05 Cablecar yeast strain from Imperial Yeast. This is, to take the phrase for Imperial Yeast's website, a pseudo-style.

I'm trying to read the style characteristics of style 5D German Pils, from the Category 5 Pale Bitten European Beer in the BJCP style guide. Now whether or not this strain of yeast can do that at ale temperatures remains to be seen.

Whatever happens, it should be interesting. And there will be beer in the end, so that's always a win.

My review does get cut a little short when Annie the Brew Mutt get's seriously unhappy with something in the back yard.

Beer number 9 and the only beer making a return from a prior Halloween Horror Nights year.

In 2017 I made a milk chocolate coconut porter that was a far bigger hit than I expected it could be.

With 13 different beers on the line I wanted to make at least one that work out, so I dusted off last year's recipe and made "Soul Grabber" again.

The name comes from the Halloween Horror Nights 27 website them of a "Soul Collector" running things behind the scenes (sorta).

Lucky number 7 - "Scary Ales". No brew project can go by without me making an amber ale. It's my favorite and I'm not ashamed to say it.

The name comes right from the very last attraction announced for Halloween Horror Nights 2018, the Original Content House "Scary Tales - Deadly Ever After".

Amber ales will likely be a style I'll spend my whole brewing tenure trying to perfect, and in the vein this is new, adjusted recipe for this project.

The 8th beer out of the 13 brewed for Halloween, "Twisted Tater" This was the first beer named, created, and planned for brewing when this project began. The lack of a specific and much need specialty grain kept this one from kicking off the project.

It's inspired by the best food in the Halloween Horror Nights event world - Twisted Taters. It's also my first Brown Ale, a style I tend to forget I like.

Beer number 6 is up next, and it's the style I haven't been able get a look on for years now.

“Patient Zero Pale”, named after the original content house from Halloween Horror Nights 28, is a simple, straight forward Pale Ale. Or at least it should be. For years I've struggled with this style - most of the time I add too many specialty malts and too few hops.

For this brew I take the George Costanza approach and do the opposite of what I think I should do while making this beer.

Does that approach work? Check out this episode of "Is It Beer Yet" and find out!

In this very special episode of “Is It Beer Yet”, Matt brews a beer for our War of the Worlds Week and shared the story of the first draft of the NEOZAZ.com production of The War of the Worlds.

This first draft was written 2016 and centers around the events of the Martian invasion unfolding during a live broadcast of “The Catacombs of Halloween Horror Nights” podcast.

As the news spreads, other personalities report in as the Martians run rampant all over the country.

To complement this story, Matt brews a unique Red Kolsch – a style inspired by the “red weed” from the original H.G. Wells story.

Who survives this version of the Martian invasion long enough to taste this beer? Listen and find out!

Beer number 4, this might be where the creative juices ran out.

"Scream Ale" is a near duplicate or a beer I made earlier this year with 1 change - the yeast. So I count this as a new beer...technically.

But that's not the worst of the creative dry spell. It's a cream ale. Guess how long it took to settle on the name for this one.

Even with this not being the most thought out and toiled over idea, it's a still a full all-grain brew so it took as long to make as all the others.

And in the end - there's a good chance I made a HUGE mistake putting this one together that might make all of this a little more interesting.

How did it come out? Did I make the mistake? If so, what was that mistake?

Check out this episode of "Is It Beer Yet" and find out!

Third beer up in the 13 beer challenge gets a little interesting. It's a style I hate, and ingredient I couldn't resist.

"Kill Grease Paint" is the first beer in the challenge named and inspired by a specific attraction at Halloween Horror Nights 28 - The "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" scarezone.

I wanted to make a white beer as a direct nod to the clown make up. My first idea was a White Ale. But a big part of this project along with making 13 beers to learn while I'm doing it. So I stepped out of my usually taste preference and made my first witbier - a style I have never enjoyed.

It does sound weird to make a beer I don't like. But I don know a couple of people that will, it it comes out okay, and in the process maybe I learn what combinations of ingredients leads that specific taste and style and I'll learn something. In this case, what not to do (at least if I'm making the beer for myself).

But that's not all in this one. There's another specific, recurring element of "Killer Klowns from Outer Space" I had to include in this beer. Cotton Candy!!! Cotton Candy is a huge part of the movie, I had to include in this beer.

How did it come out? Where is the cotton candy? Do I like Witbiers yets? Check out this episode of "Is It Beer Yet" and find out!

Beer number 2 in the 13 beers challenge, and my first time playing with Rye malt.

"Chainsaw Splatter", named for the ever present tool of terror at Universal Orlando Resort's Halloween Horror Nights, is a red rye ale.

I've always wanted to experiment with rye, and from what understand it contributes to brewing, a beer named after a chainsaw seemed appropriate.

The rye is the main focus on this brew, but I did want to make it drinkable so I did put a little thought into the accompanying malts and hops.

How did it come out? Check out this episode of "It Beer Yet" and find out!

It’s an all new video edition of our series “Is It Beer Yet?” – the home brew podcast from neozaz.com!

To start this new video series off, is “13 Beers for Halloween”.

This fall I challenged myself to come up 13 different beers for this Halloween Season and try out during out annual visit to Universal Orlando Resorts Halloween Horror Nights 28.

All 13 beers were inspired and named after Halloween Horror Nights 28 attractions or elements of the Halloween Horror Nights event.

In this intro episode I go through the method of brewing for these 13 beers and the name and styles of the 13 beers coming in the following episodes.

At this point, all 13 beers are brewed and bottled. But are they any good? That’s what we’re about to find out in “13 Beers for Halloween”!
