What walls are you putting up between you and Jesus?

View Details

When Jesus is your banner it is evident. People notice. The things we think about the most, the things we dwell on become a part of who we are. Today we are talking about meditating on God's word. To meditate means to engage in thought, to reflect, to consider something.

We display our banner of Jesus with our life of worship. Many times we get caught up with worshipping or idolizing other people (maybe boyfriend or girlfriend or crush) or things (maybe social media, phones, video games). Worship is not a song or singing, worship is what we love the most. When we are loving Jesus we are showing him or expressing love to him. That why we sometimes refer to singing together to Jesus "worship". But it is possible to worship other things instead of God. God is the only thing that is worthy of worship. Nothing besides God is worthy of worship.

What does it look like to carry the Jesus banner above yourself?

View Details

In the final message in the series "The Pursuit of Holiness", we talk about holiness and prayer. The two are closely related. If we do nothing the human condition will lead us to death, spiritual death. The Bible says temptation gives way to sin, and sin, when fully developed, leads to death. The only way to stop this from happening is by actively fighting. We do this by staying in touch with God through prayer. Prayer gives space for a relationship with God. It is space for communion, for talking to God and listening from God. This relationship is the active way we fight temptation.

Jesus attracted crowds of people. The crowds were interested in who this man was and what he was doing. After the event or after Jesus spoke the crowd would disperse. A disciple decides that Jesus is important enough to follow. Jesus calls us to be followers, to be disciples. He invites us to be involved. He invites us to participate in His plan.

Marcus reminds us that God calls us to be set apart. We specifically talk about worry, fear, anxiety and how if affects our generation and our society. God is with you. God takes care of worry, fear, and anxiety if you trust in Him.

View Details

We are called to live set apart. We are alive in Christ. Sin affects us because it separates us from God. God warns us against being spiritually dead. Our flesh is constantly wanting to be satisfied. The Bible says that the heart is deceitful. The struggle for holiness is a constant battle. There is tension of being a Christian and living in the world but not being of the world. Christians have the task of being aware and being prepared to live a holy life in the midst of temptations. The battle happens in our flesh, in our hearts.

View Details

God calls us to be Holy like He is holy. We cannot achieve the standard that God calls us to. God had to pay the price in order to restore the relationship between God and man, between you and Jesus. God sacrificed his Son in order to get his creation back into a right relationship with himself. In turn we live for his glory. Holiness was expensive. The good news is, it's been paid for.

View Details

In this second episode we talk about why we are called to be Holy. God is a holy God, we are made in his image, we are trying to be in communion with God. Sin separates us from God, but holiness or being without sin draws us closer to God. This is only possible with the help of God. We will experience joy when we are close to God. We are called to be holy in order to be close to Him.

This is a new series called "The Pursuit of Holiness". We notice in today's culture and society that some things that God calls "sin" has become acceptable to us. God has called us to be "holy" which means "set apart". That means that if you're a Christian God has called you to be set apart. It means we recognize the things that are not of God and separate ourselves from those things. To Pursue Holiness means to live a life set apart, to resist sinful temptations, and to follow God's culture instead of the world's culture. In this episode we specifically talk about how and why we are set free from sin.
