Have you ever had a burning question about something that might be uncomfortable? Ever had to preface your question with an apology, for fear of offending someone? Our podcast “Sorry but can I ask...?” is all about getting into those uncomfortable conversations that we feel Singaporeans should have but don’t have often enough. In each episode, we’ll unpack a burning question and bring in our views and experiences into these issues. The dream is to get more Singaporeans talking, checking their bias, and mostly for us to grow through discourse. Grab a cup of tea (or kopi, or wine) and join us!
On the eve of National Day 🇸🇬, we recorded a bonus episode to unpack the e-pay fiasco and share the conversations we’ve been having around it. It was honestly challenging for us to articulate our thoughts; we talked about why one thing is racist and the other isn’t, the labour and fatigue of having to explain experiences and emotions, what the ad makers could have done to rectify this and more. In this episode, we discuss the ever changing social landscape of Singapore, with the growing presence of foreigners & races beyond the typical C-M-I-O. This question kind of blew our minds a little because there are just so many complex issues behind the demographic of Singapore: the positive and negative discrimination towards certain types of foreigners, what counts as a Singaporean race and more.
