Being a Christian doesn't make us immune to conflict. Especially when money and business is involved. That was the issue that the Apostle Paul had to address in 1 Corinthians 6: 1-11 and the application applies to us still today. For like the Corinthian believers, one day we too will judge the world and angels. Church discipline serves more than bringing correction to the person who refuses to address their sinful lifestyle. It also serves to protect the Church and her witness to the world. We don't like to talk about Church Discipline, because we don't like to be told what we can do by others. And so Church Discipline can feel like someone meddling with our business, punishing us. But the heart behind the intervention is love and protection. Pastor Ross explains the heart behind it, but also how it should be done.

Pastor Josh explores the deeply counter-intuitive nature of spiritual growth. We often assume transformation comes through trying harder, fixing ourselves, and keeping everything together — but Jesus invites us into a different way. Real growth begins when we stop thrashing, release the pressure, and surrender our need to save ourselves. To the tired, overwhelmed, and thirsty, Jesus offers an incredible promise: He Himself will become the fulfillment of every deep thirst in our souls.Website: https://www.newlifekw.caFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewLifeKWInstagram: http://instagram.com/newlifefellowshipkw#joshgordon #newlifekw #jesus #sermon #church #communityofgrace #kitchener #waterloo #cambridgeCode: 3R7TSC1Z6CUYUEB7

God's way is not our way. This is more than just a cliche, it is helps us to understand that life cannot be found in the wisdom of the world. The wisdom of the world tells you get get stronger, get smarter, get more control and power and then you will be content in life. But that life is always seemingly just out of reach. The Tower of Babel in Genesis 11 was not just the start of the many languages of the world, it was also where God divided the world into nations, to be ruled by various angels, also known as Watchers. This began the time when God would work through one nation, Israel, that was to be a priestly nation to the world. But through the work of the cross and the outpouring of the Holy Spirit upon the Church on the day of Pentecost in Acts 2, God has ended the division. God has called us to be truth-tellers in a world of lies, and that is not always received well. The truth is often met with resistance, anger, and sometimes even retaliation. So what do we do?In Mark's gospel, we read the story of the unjust murder of John the Baptist—killed precisely because he was a truth-teller. Yet we don’t see God leaping into action to avenge him. In John chapter 8, verses 31-59, Jesus confronts the Jewish people about their status with God by judging their relationship with God as merely association and an intimate relationship. The story of the Watchers and their divine rebellion that is told in Genesis 6 as well in ancient texts such as the book of 1 Enoch, is not just a story of myth or history. Like Genesis 3, it is a story of rebellion and the resulting destruction to God's creation. And like Genesis 3, the resulting destruction is still felt today as the impact of the Watchers continue to shape and push a culture of death and destruction.Website: https://www.newlifekw.caFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewLifeKWInstagram: http://instagram.com/newlifefellowshipkw#rossgilbert #newlifekw #jesus #sermon #genesis6 #genesis #watchers #nephilim #spiritualwarfare #church #communityofgrace #kitchener #waterloo #cambridge

We are all, by definition, religious people. But not all religions are equal. All of man’s religions are essentially the same – we do our best to earn blessing and favor from the god of our choosing through our sacrifice and adhering to the right rituals and performance. The way we look at our bodies governs how we treat ourselves and others. We all have a theology of the body - and so does Satan. We need God’s perspective. Anything other than His, is a perspective that leads to death. Sin has given us the ability to create a theology of the body apart from God. The body is an instrument of righteousness - it is made to be surrendered to God’s purposes. But God is the best caretaker of the body and surrender to his care is better than our care. Have you considered Abraham? In Galatians 3: 6-9, the Apostle Paul argues that our justification is by faith and not by fulfilling the Law by appealing to the father of our faith – Abraham. He proves that Abraham was made righteous simply by his faith in God. Therefore, it only makes sense that to be included in this family, one must exercise the same faith. Which also allows us to become benefactors of the same covenant. You can watch this message on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/uAYcRlfiL2YWebsite: https://www.newlifekw.caFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewLifeKWFacebook Community Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/NewLifeKWInstagram: http://instagram.com/newlifefellowshipkw#rossgilbert #newlifekw #jesus #sermon #abraham #galatians #galatians3 #righteousness #justification #faith #church #communityofgrace #kitchener #waterloo #cambridge

After chapter 11, the story of Genesis follows in detail the lives of Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, and Joseph. But in chapter 38, there is an odd story of Judah and his daughter-in-law Tamar. But this story provides a contrast with the story of Joseph in chapter 39 to demonstrate the nature of God's grace. What we do, doesn't diminish who we are. Who we are, is the result of what God does. You can watch this message on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/38KLEfc4vccWebsite: https://www.newlifekw.caFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewLifeKWFacebook Community Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/NewLifeKWInstagram: http://instagram.com/newlifefellowshipkw#isaacdunn #newlifekw #jesus #sermon #genesis #genesis38 #church #communityofgrace #kitchener #waterloo #cambridge

There is a season for routines, procedures, safety and predictability but there is no life in ‘them’. There is only life and power found in a Person - in the Person of Jesus Christ. As those who are in Christ - we haven’t been made subject to rules of living but we have been made alive to God in everything we do, think and say. This lends itself to unpredictability, foiled routines, subsequent danger at times but most importantly joy. Pastor Robin explains in today’s message how Acts 3: 1-10 illustrates a life lived and led expectant of a good God.You can watch this message on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/iik5kAr7TFkWebsite: https://www.newlifekw.caFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewLifeKWFacebook Community Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/NewLifeKWInstagram: http://instagram.com/newlifefellowshipkw#robinantoine #newlifekw #jesus #acts3 #sermon #expectmiracles #church #communityofgrace #kitchener #waterloo #cambridge

When we struggle to accept that God has made us righteous in Him through Jesus’ work on the cross, we are frustrating and rejecting God’s grace. If you can’t accept yourself as you are today, then you believe that you have higher standards than God and that Jesus didn’t do enough. That frustrates God because if that could be the case, then Jesus wouldn’t have needed to die. If the most important question is, “Who is God?” Then the second most important question is, “Who am I?” The world around us is obsessed with trying to answer that question through identity politics, gender wars, sexuality, striving, and even religious effort. But to answer the question of who I am, we need to also understand what determines who I am. Pastor Ross reveals the powerful truth of Galatians 2 and verse 20 and what it tells us about God’s answer to our identity. In writing to Timothy, the Apostle Paul says that there are those who want to be teachers of the Law, though they do not understand what they are saying, because they don’t understand that the Law is not for believers. There has always existed pressure to adapt the gospel of grace that is Jesus plus nothing, to become more pleasing to others. Either to add in some rules and religious laws to make people "keep" the grace of God, or to smudge what God's word says so that the world caught up in their sin wouldn't be offended. That reality has profound consequences, specifically for the nation of Israel. Has the church replaced Israel (aka supersessionism)? Does Israel still have a role to play with God? Imitation gets a bad rap. Often a form of humour and humiliation, imitation in Biblical terms and definition, was a term of honour. It demonstrated a form of allegiance that spoke of great affection between two parties. Paul urges the Corinthian Church to imitate him. Pastor Robin shares about 1 Corinthians chapter 4 as an affirmation but also a warning to the 21st Century church - to really understand the use of that verb in new covenant writings. You can watch this message on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/lEDAOapQQmQWebsite: https://www.newlifekw.caFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewLifeKWFacebook Community Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/NewLifeKWInstagram: http://instagram.com/newlifefellowshipkw#robinantoine #newlifekw #jesus #sermon #church #1corinthians #communityofgrace #kitchener #waterloo #cambridge

The Bible is a covenant document that details the various covenants that God makes with mankind. To truly appreciate the power of that statement, and therefore to understand the kind of relationship and connection we have with God, we need to step back and understand what it is a covenant. Pastor Ross does this by examining threshold covenant in particular and how it is the basis of the first Passover in Exodus 12, which was foretelling what Christ ultimately did on the cross. You can watch this message on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/18JCaPDNE3EWebsite: https://www.newlifekw.caFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewLifeKWFacebook Community Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/NewLifeKWInstagram: http://instagram.com/newlifefellowshipkw#rossgilbert #newlifekw #covenant #understandingcovenant #passover #exodus #genesis15 #thresholdcovenant #jesus #sermon #church #communityofgrace #kitchener #waterloo #cambridge

The story of Lot and Abram going their separate ways has a lot more going on than meets the eye. We discover how God is moving in Abram's life to bring repentance. Abram's life was one where he was learning to trust God through obedience from the heart. The need to be perfect is something that many of us can relate to on some level. The Bible has a fantastic history. The most famous book in the world is a collection of writings from thousands of years ago by many different authors from different parts of the world. But it is so much more. It is the Word of God communicated through His chosen people who witnessed God's action and His heart firsthand. These writings have been preserved and passed down through the generations over time "so that you too may have fellowship with us; and indeed our fellowship is with the Father, and with His Son Jesus Christ."You can watch this message on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/M45mvSd14wIWebsite: https://www.newlifekw.caFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewLifeKWFacebook Community Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/NewLifeKWInstagram: http://instagram.com/newlifefellowshipkw#rossgilbert #newlifekw #biblestudy #biblereading #biblehistory #jesus #sermon #church #communityofgrace #kitchener #waterloo #cambridge

Sometimes it’s not the big ‘asks’ from God that are the challenge. Sometimes it’s the small ones that trips us up. The visit to the neighbour, the small talk with the cashier, or the family get together that can sometimes be the hardest moment to go with God’s leading. Time for a pop-quiz. It is the most important test that we need to pass. It is a test to see if we possess faith in Christ, and therefore if Christ is in us. Not everybody passes this test (Universalism is not Biblical), nor is it only for some (God did not predestine only some for faith). Anyone can pass - as long as they possess faith.

Repentance is one of the words in our Christian faith that has been very misunderstood. As a result, it has been discarded and seen contrary to grace. But repentance is something that we all need and will lead us out of death from sin to experience life in Christ. Which is why the Apostle Paul is willing to meddle in the personal lives of the Corinthians.

If we’re honest with ourselves, we think about these three often and worry about them. But Paul prays a prayer for the Philippian church and us that addresses those three things. We are often guilty of the comparing ourselves with others and feeling that we come up short. Yet it is foolish to do that, because it means putting ourselves under the standard (which is another way of saying the Law) which only guarantees that we experience death and condemnation.

Yet, the Apostle Paul decides to lower himself into this foolishness to show that the false apostles who are placing the church in Corinth under law, are unworthy of their toleration.

To ignore these commands is to say that you know better than God, which opens us up to harm.In 2 Corinthians chapter 6, Paul is giving a command regarding who we join ourselves to. The danger is we choose poorly and are drawn into the mess of the world. But when we obey God's command in this area, we are trusting God to care, protect, and provide for us.You can watch this message on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/yJG67H5ssekWebsite: https://www.newlifekw.caFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewLifeKWFacebook Community Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/NewLifeKWInstagram: http://instagram.com/newlifefellowshipkw

One of the most popular phrases in the church today is "I'm just a sinner saved by grace." You find it on bumper stickers, in books, on clothing... It's so popular, and yet it's not Biblical, and therefore it's not true. Nowhere in the Bible does it refer to New Covenant believers as sinners saved by grace. Instead, we are saints - holy ones of God.You can watch this message on YouTube here: https://youtu.be/yimC0iySuyAWebsite: https://www.newlifekw.caFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/NewLifeKWFacebook Community Group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/NewLifeKWInstagram: http://instagram.com/newlifefellowshipkw

What does true worship look like? Everyone has a different response but the big question is: Does God have a definition of what true worship looks like? The answer is 'yes' but we don't often consider what His definition looks like. Pastor Robin takes out the biblical building blocks to show us what is God's definition of true worship.

The Prosperity Gospel message does not accurately reflect the true gospel. The Christian Life is not a promise of health, wealth, and perpetual happiness. It will, at times, include suffering, which is not a bad thing. For love is proven through these times of suffering, and trust is formed. The Apostle Paul shares what he has endured for the sake of the Corinthians, in order that he might win their trust and they might receive life in Jesus through him. It is hard to watch people struggle when the answer to their struggle is right there waiting for them to use. The harder the struggle, the more desperate we beg them to take hold of the help that is waiting for them. The question is not if we judge or not. The reality is that we judge many things everyday. And that's a good thing. Don't judge spoiled milk and you will be sick. Don't judge bad teaching, and you will misunderstand who God is and what He has done.So the question is not if we are to judge or not, but rather, how does one judge God's way? We all have struggles with financial insecurity. Whether we have too much or not enough - if you put too much trust in your money - you are insecure. Why? Because finances are not true security. Financial insecurity has a cost because it robs us of the TRUE peace that comes from God. True security and true wealth come from God because He is the giver of wealth. True wealth is knowing and being known by the giver of wealth. Whether we have a lot of money or not, money is a tool to know the Father’s love, affirmation and care. Knowing him is the greatest value. When we are faithful to Him with our money, we are freed from the burden of earning money in the flesh and we experience His joy in giving.

Isaiah 9 is more than just a passage to read around Christmas time. It is a bold declaration about who Jesus is, what He does, and who He is for. It is a word of encouragement for those who walk or live in darkness about the transformational, powerful light of Jesus. It is for those who risk obedience to Him, where life change is an inevitability.

But in verse 3, Light appears, but it's not until day 4 that the sun, moon, and stars are made. So what is the Light on day 1 in verse 3? It must be Jesus, and we discover that God is giving us a gospel presentation in verse 4.

Sometimes Jesus is silent on a subject. Sometimes Jesus has other plans. Sometimes, even when we're desperate, we find out that Jesus' plans are different than ours. What do we do when accepting Jesus' plan is hardest thing we could do. Mark 7:24-30 describes the story of a woman who came to interrupt Jesus' plans in a dire situation. A fateful story that reconnects us with the importance of trusting Jesus.

Psalm 3 is a description of King David at the darkest point of his life - rejected and pursued by his son's army. However among all his failures leading up to this point the psalmist also demonstrates an uncanny ability to trust in God. Like David, we are surrounded, enclosed and encircled by hardships. So much so that it feels like there is no escape from harm. How do we endure this? We can endure hardships by trusting that no matter what comes; God is our shield, support and salvation. When we trust Him to be those things for us, we experience His honour, His strength at work and His justice.

As we begin a new series through the first four chapters of Genesis, we must start with examining the various views of how creation came to be. Are faith and science opposed to one another? Is the science really settled when it comes to answering the bigger questions of life such as how we can to be and what is our purpose today?

Pastor Ross starts with examining the theories of Evolution and the Big Bang from a scientific point of view and the conclusions that they both reach when fully applied.

As children of God, we are called saints. That describes both our nature as well as our calling. It is a calling that is not to conform ourselves to the way the world thinks and operates, but a call to be different. To live as God calls us.

In Ephesians 5:3-10 we discover a call to live differently by living from what Jesus tells us to do in the moment.

What we do with our hurts and wounds will determine the degree of freedom we will experience. If we decide that we never will allow anyone to ever hurt us again, we retreat into a 'panic room' of sorts within our selves. This form of self-protection will provide some protection from the abuse of others - but it will also keep love and life out as well. Guaranteeing that our wounds and hurts, which are locked up with us in our panic room, will only get worse.

As we close out 2020, it is natural to reflect on how difficult a year it has been, and hope that next year will be better. But what if next year is not better? What if next year is more of the same, or even worse? Where do we find the hope to continue?

We look to those who have gone before us for their wisdom. Particularly, David in Psalm 31 where he writes about his distress, loneliness, and struggles and how he placed his hope in God as an answer.

Anger is a common emotion. And while emotions are not good or bad in themselves, expressions of anger that are controlled by the Flesh can leave much damage. Both to the one who is angry and those around.

Overcoming the temptation to express our anger in unhealthy ways needs more than just counting to ten and other shallow solutions. It needs the power of the Holy Spirit to overcome the Flesh and show us how to respond with love.

Luke 10:38-42 gives us an intimate picture of the necessary first steps to listening to Jesus. And that comes in acknowledging our union with Jesus, paying attention to distractions that deny your union with Him, and cherishing the gift of our union with Him.

God has granted various kinds of gifts to the church. Romans 12 lists gifts that are motivational in nature, 1 Corinthians 12 lists others that are a unique expression of the Holy Spirit, and then in Ephesians 4, Paul lists leadership roles within the Church. We live in a world of inequality. This inequality exists, and specifically an inequality of how we view one another, because people operate that the life, that we all need, is a limited commodity. It’s in limited supply. A zero-sum game where if you get some, that means I get less. And therefore, I need to be more deserving than you of life.

But because of what Jesus Christ has done and given to us, He has overcome this inequality by making us equal in Him. This is made clear through the Apostle Paul in Ephesians 4:4-6 where we discover the power of one for all and all for one.

It means I am completely secure and accepted in the person of Jesus Christ. Therefore, I am free to experience my emotions and live above the line.

We were either told we had to do for Christian merit or we were told that it was set apart only for great 'evangelists.' This talk is a bedrock conversation about the whys and hows of evangelism and how it speaks to our new covenant hearts.

“Life is hard” is one of those obvious statements, you might as well be saying “water is wet!” Trials and difficulties are an inevitable part of all of our lives—that’s just a reality. But that doesn’t take away from the fact that they can often be overwhelming. As we continue our study in the book of Ephesians, we see a beautiful reminder from Paul, that we have an incomparable power available to us as we face these struggles. In Ephesians 1:19, Paul tells us about the surpassing greatness of God’s power that is a present tense power. It’s not a power to distract us from our stuff, but a power that meets us in the middle of our insecurities, shame, anxieties, depression, illnesses, disappointments, hurts and frustrations. It’s the same power that conquered the grave and raised Jesus from the dead.

Jesus warns us of the game plan of our enemy. It is a plan to steal, kill and destroy. And while there are many ways in which that plan is executed, one of the most effective attacks is to take away hope. Because when one loses hope, everything else begins to crumble around it.

But Jesus came that we might have life and have it abundantly. He came to restore our hope. A hope that is not just for after we die, but a hope that will allow us to face each day, each struggle, each problem with a resolve and a strength that overcomes.
