What is a "Medium"?

I can tell you that for me, having lost my daughter over 21 yrs ago, it brought me immense closure and a knowing that she was okay, that she was always around our family and that she wanted us to know that she was only meant to be here for that short time.
And this was always validated that it was truly her by something the psychic medium would say that he/she could not know unless it came from my daughter.
