The Frederick Faith Debate is designed to be an open an honest forum for local faith community leaders to share and discuss their views of the truth. Lady Bird Johnson once said, “the clash of ideas is the sound of freedom”. In that spirit, the show seriously wrestles with important ideas… the participant often disagreeing with one another. The hope is that through this wrestling a better understanding of the truth will develop with regards to the most important issues facing the world.

A conversation with Dr. Russell T Fuller… a profile in Christian courage.
This is a special “fireside chat” edition of The Faith Debate, which plays out on the show over five episodes.
In part five we hear Dr. Fuller shares how he has reinvented his career after being unceremoniously dumped from Southern Seminary as the SBC caved to what is sometimes called the “social justice gospel”. Instead of thinking about retirement, a new online education institution (Theology Classroom) was established so that students can receive seminary level training at a fraction of the cost.

As mentioned in recent weeks, an unseemly battle royale is taking place among Christian conservatives this year. Some of the fights is over semantics, some are over vision for the future, and some of it (sadly) is due to a personality conflict.
The panel spent six episodes attempting to directly expose the issues involved, hoping to forthrightly frame the various dialogs within a biblical context. This is a VERY complex issue that touches upon how to understand what’s called Theonomy (in distinction from Theocracy and Sacralism), how understand prophecy (primarily in relation to Postmillennialism, Amillennialism, and Preterism), and how to understand the moniker “Christian Nationalism” (as distinct from Christianity proper, Christendom, and even Sharia Law).
That’s a lot to cover (and we’ve reached the end, for now). This is episode 6 of 6. The full discussion of six shows is available as one long video on the Rumble channel for Household of Faith in Christ. https://rumble.com/v2kr5kc-video-gg-theonomy-and-christian-nationalism.html

Not everything is as it at first appears. Just because a religious retreat advertises itself as “Christian” does not automatically mean the event (or the organization behind it) are faithful to the Bible. Wisdom and discernment is necessary to avoid being pulled into practices belonging to a cult rather than belonging to the church.

Are Euphemisms Offensive?
Is it ever appropriate (or inappropriate) to wear clothing with slogans that others could find offensive? For instance, MAGA hats, BLM shirts, the Let’s Go Brandon phrase, or quoted song lyrics about shaking peaches. There is biblical guidance for this question (of course!), and the Scripture verses cited might just surprise some.

Do Islam and Christianity Worship the Same God?
Many of the attributes and names are the same, as is much of the historical tradition – but can a unitarian God be equated with a trinitarian God (and vice versa)? Many of the same questions and considerations apply to Judaism, an issue which also comes up during the show.

Some Bible translations are more equal than others. Some attempt to be word-for-word, others phrase-by-phrase (called “dynamic equivalency”), others aim to be paraphrases, and there are some that are none of the above and are simply bad (or at least unhelpful).
This is episode three of three tackling this subject. The first two focused primarily on the controversy surrounding the King James Version and other very popular English Bibles on the market today.
This episode drifts into some discussion of troubles associated with what’s called the Hebrew Roots Movement.

Faith Debate: December 25th, 2022
How Did We Get the English Bibles We Have Today?
There are dozens of English Bible translations available today. Some are better or worse than others. What accounts for the differences and is this cause for serious concern? This show provides not a deep dive, but rather an overview of some issues related to biblical text transmission and a field of study called textual criticism. This is episode two of three that tackle this subject. The other episodes incorporate discussions about “King James only” advocates, as well as theological problems that can accompany questionable translations.

This Faith Debate episode wraps up a monthlong dialog on the show. The focus this time is primarily on privacy protection:
Smart phones and devices such as Alexa are always listening, and social media is tracking people through their purchases, their locations visited, and their “close contacts”. Why care if you have nothing to hide?
Apple now scans iPhones for child sex abuse images, the NSA records everything – even information about innocent citizens, and some people warn this is dangerous (ask Ed Snowden).
Some would say this has been exacerbated with “vax passports”, contact tracing, and restrictions put in place by lockdowns which affect alternative medicine for personal health strategies, as well as the need to reveal one’s medical choices in order to remain employed.

This Faith Debate continues a dialog which connects a vast array of dots about “niceness”. Misapplying the “Eleventh Commandment – Being nice” has opened the door to all kinds of social ills that plague the church and society as a whole. For example:
The federal government opening wide the southern border to the applause of “nice Christians” who misunderstand biblical “sojourner” teachings.
“Nice” handouts (such as “Trump bucks” and “Biden bucks”) necessitates the printing of trillions of dollars, which in turn leads the way to hyperinflation and a stock market completely disconnected from the economic realities of people living paycheck to paycheck because they’re trapped in a mandated minimum wage system.
“Niceness” has also discouraged Christians from teaching the full counsel of God, and made many reticent to proclaim the fulness of the Good News that Jesus saves.

This Faith Debate continues a dialog which connects a vast array of dots. Wokism is synchronism, which has exposed itself in multiple ways:
Pastors shut out their congregation from biblically gathering for worship because “Caesar” said churches must close their doors, maintain six feet of distance, mask up even when singing – all because of fear (of civil magistrates and/or the “woke mob”).
Woke churches also segregate based upon injection status and or “identity” status (as defined by intersectionality). Fortunately, this sort of thing has helped give rise to a house church movement (and even the home school movement).
Sermons purchased from groupthink warehouses such as Docent Research Group, or simply stolen through acts of plagiarism, have led astray many in the fold.

This Faith Debate opens a dialog which connects a vast array of dots. Cultural Marxism (Ethnic Gnosticism) is related to how the culture responds to things such as:
Statements about “Good on both sides” in Charlottesville.
The way people respond to celebrity deaths (such as Colin Powell and Kobe Bryant).
“Cancel Culture” attacking college campus speeches and Christopher Columbus statues.

After seventeen years of “tweaks” bringing different “seasons” to the Faith Debate show, there’s now a new tweak.
At the start of the program in 2004 it basically followed an interview format. Then it turned into more of a “talking heads” opinion show; guests have included all worldview traditions, and the conversations spiritedly tackled tough philosophical ideas and hot cultural topics. The show has also had periods when there were no guests, but merely a one man monologue. All of this comes together in a brand new way now.
Into the foreseeable future there will be a set panel of local faith community leaders each week. The issues addressed will still be profound, and the dialogue just as spirited as ever. We’re excited about this new moment in our show’s trajectory and hope that you are, too.

Three pastors leading house churches offer tips on identifying solidly biblical churches and what might be the best way to begin a house church yourself if there are no quality house churches near you. (Incidentally, the recording of the episodes accidentally fell out of synchronization with the calendar. This episode brings us Christmas in August. Why do Christians celebrate this holiday the way that they do? What’s the origin of some of these social and religious conventions? How should discerning individuals think about all of this? This is the content that comprises the majority of our time in this potpourri edition of the show. Also, it is possible that this is the final ever broadcast of the Faith Debate on WFMD. (We’ll find out together, soon enough, if this proves to be the case.) So, just in case… and as I mention during the final minutes of the show… thank you for helping us at the Faith Debate enjoy seventeen wonderful years on the radio. For many years The Gospel Coalition had been a trusted resource for biblically conservative Christians. In recent years, however, there have been concerns raised that the organization has taken a turn that appears to support (or at least defend) what the Apostle Paul calls “another gospel”. Is there evidence that these recent concerns are well founded?

The Frederick Faith Debate is designed to be an open an honest forum for local faith community leaders to share and discuss their views of the truth. Lady Bird Johnson once said, “the clash of ideas is the sound of freedom”. In that spirit, the show seriously wrestles with important ideas… the participant often disagreeing with one another. The hope is that through this wrestling a better understanding of the truth will develop with regards to the most important issues facing the world.

This show picks up where the previous show left off. The media reports are often contradictory and the claims of “science” are ever shifting. What is a Bible believing follower of Christ to think? What do the stats say? What does the Scripture say?
Due to outside restrictions, our regular Faith Debate roundtable discussions have been placed on hold. Instead, we’re airing the “Lockdown Tapes – Round Two”. (“Round One” aired last spring.)

This is a sort of “bridge” episode. The first half contains the ending to the content we began covering last week. The second half contains the beginning of the content we will be covering next week. Last week took an up close look at the passion of Christ, as written in the Gospel narrative of Mark. Next week will take a look at specifics about the coronavirus.
Due to the restrictions placed on us, our regular roundtable discussions have been placed on pause. So, we’re airing “Round Two” of the “Lockdown Tapes”. (“Round One” aired last spring.) This departure from our normal habit, it turns out, might be exactly what we all need to hear right now.

We might feel mired in difficulty as we head into a new year hoping for new beginnings. The Christian message promises new beginnings, and these blessings came about after (and because of) days that were mired in difficulty. This show holds reminders of this teaching, drawing attention to the tail end of the Gospel narrative recorded for us in the New Testament Book of Mark.
Due to the many restrictions placed upon us, our roundtable discussions have been paused. In the meantime we’re airing what we’re playfully calling “Round Two of the Lockdown Tapes”. (“Round One” aired last spring.) We hope you are blessed by these atypical episodes of our show.

The “Christmas shows” of the past two weeks focused on the books of Genesis and Exodus, looking at the biblical teaching about fear versus shalom. Now, our special series of shows continues into the New Year due to the mandated restrictions which have placed our traditional round table discussions on hold. The Faith Debate is playfully calling this series of special episodes “Round Two of the Lockdown Tapes”. This is simply a soliloquy to which you get to listen in.

Mandated restrictions have placed our traditional round table discussions on hold. So, as we did for the early 2020 lock downs, now during the late 2020 lock downs, The Faith Debate is featuring a series of special episodes that we’re playfully calling round two of “The Lock down Tapes”. This episode walks through the second book of the Bible, the Book of Exodus, to learn how it is that fear so often replaces peace and prosperity.

Due to imposed restrictions, doing our typical panel discussion styled shows is problematic. So, similar to what we did last spring, The Faith Debate is featuring a series of special episodes that we’re playfully calling Round Two of “The Lockdown Tapes”. This one walks us through the first book of the Bible, the Book of Genesis, to learn how it is that fear replaces peace and prosperity.

The Cristiano Brothers. The Irwin Brothers. The Kendrick Brothers. These tandems have come to define Christian film making in recent decades. However, it wasn’t always this way. What happened to the big budget blockbusters and the movies which are still regarded as all-time classics? This episode of the Faith Debate surveys the landscape of faith based movies (even those that are marketed as “Christian” movies, when they are not faithful to the Gospel.) Some are out-and-out Christian movies, but many take license and add in extra-Biblical worldview issues. It’s a facinating overview, guided by a man who is on the inside of the industry. (He’s a man who also happens to have graduated from TJ High in Frederick.)

There’s a new film this year that looks a lot like a Hallmark Christmas movie – bright lighting, rich colors, snow, lots of ornaments and Christmas music – but it covers much more serious subject matter than what you’d tend to find on that network. “Miracle on Christmas” focusses on steadfast love in marriage, forgiveness, reconciliation, redemption – and features a message of the hope that comes through Christ, Who is the reason for the season. Thomas Bonifield is the Writer/Director… and get this… he’s from Frederick.

Thomas Bonifield, who used to call Frederick home and graduated from TJ High School, is the Writer/Director of a brand new movie titled “Miracle on Christmas”. During last week’s Faith Debate show we discussed his personal stoy, and this show transitions into talking about the movie’s story. The film released earlier this month and its distribution footprint is broad, including on-demand rental, streaming, digital sales, and DVD sales. You can find it at Amazon, as well as at Walmart and Target.
This week examines the theme of the story and why it’s being told. Also, the lessons learned, the surprises and hiccups, the impact of coronavirus, and the behind-the-scenes process of making a dream a reality. There’s talk about the actors (Erin Bethea, Jason Burkey, Brett Varvel, and Micah Lynn Hanson – all of whom are Christians.) the producers (Kevan Otto and Danny Roth), the crew, and executive producer Ben Graham (who is part of the famous family of famous evangelist Billy Graham).

In recent weeks we’ve been rather serious on the Faith Debate. And with good reason. There are lots of serious things happening this year. But now we’re heading into the holiday season. So, it’s temporarily time to shift gears and get you into the spirit of Advent season. There’s an uplifting, faith-based, family tale that stars Erin Bethea (“Fireproof”), Jason Burkey (“I Can Only Imagine” and “October Baby”) and Brett Varvel (“Play the Flute”). It tells a story of overcoming fears and doubts by relying on God, which is particularly timely in light of what the U.S. has endured this year. Thomas Bonifield is an independent filmmaker who graduated from Thomas Johnson High School. His movie is called “Miracle on Christmas”. In this episode our guest tells us his story (with upcoming episodes telling us the story of the movie).

Here’s a quote: “The Southern Baptist Convention is tanking rapidly. President J. D. Greear has asked for forgiveness from the LGBT community for ‘discrimination, injustice and abuse.’ Are you kidding? What abuse? What injustice? What discrimination? Are Christians to no longer ‘discriminate’ against sin?” These are words posted as the description for a YouTube video podcast (and as part of the Facebook page) called “For Such a Time as This”. The video features today’s guest, Pastor James Pittman, an ordained Southern Baptist minister of the Gospel, serving as Senior Pastor of New Hope Community Church in Palatine, Illinois. After announcing that his congregation was leaving the Southern Baptist Convention, there was a change of strategy, and James and his church find themselves holding out a New Hope for their denomination.

Woke Church. Critical Race Theory. Intersectionality. White Privilege. Black Lives Matter. White Fragility. Ethnic Gnosticism. Neo-Marxist Black Liberation Theology. Post Modern Cultural Marxism. Identity Politics. Social Justice Warriors. Systemic Racism. LGTBQ+ Rights. And so many more new words and phrases have entered our newscasts and entered many pulpits. There are so many different labels because there is so much complexity in how we got here. Some people prefer certain descriptors, much to the disdain of others who prefer their own certain descriptors. Call it what you want… there is a new so-called Social Gospel, and it is viewed as an enemy of the one true biblical Gospel by very many conservative theologians. One of these theologians is James Pittman, Senior Pastor of New Hope Community Church in the Chicagoland area of Illinois.

There is a movement within the church gaining influence in recent decades. This movement has increased power in recent years, and has finally come to a pivot point for the life of Christ’s church within the past dozen or two months. It is a theological liberalism appearing to win the day even in traditionally conservative enclaves such as the Presbyterian Church of America, the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, the Free Church, and the Southern Baptist Convention. James Pittman is the pastor of a Southern Baptist church in the western suburbs of Chicago. And he, along with his congregation, almost left the SBC last year. What happened and why? We begin to shed light on those questions today.

Pastor James L. Pittman, Jr. is the lead under shepherd for the congregation of New Hope Community Church in Platine, Illinois. That’s actually Troy’s old stomping grounds, as he grew up in a bunch of towns all around that area of suburban Chicago. And Pastor Pittman knows the Maryland neck-of-the-woods pretty well himself, having studied premed at Howard University in Washington, D.C. But geography is not why he’s on this edition of the Faith Debate. Theology is why he joins by telephone. It’s an issue of such great importance that it’s causing church splits, denominational division, and longtime friendships to be called into question. But before we get into all of that, we take a moment to let you know more about this minister of the Gospel.

“Critical Race Theory”, “White Privilege”, “Systemic Racism”, “Social Justice Warrior”, “Cultural Marxism”, “Intersectionality”, and a whole bunch of new terms have been added to the American pop-culture lexicon this year with the rapid ascendency of the “Black Lives Matter” slogan, organization, and movement. What do these new terms mean, and from whence did they come? Are they even new? Is it a political divide? A religious divide? A worldview divide? A cultural divide? What are faithful Bible believing followers of Christ supposed to do and think? For many years now, Adam “AD” Robles has been all over this issue like a tick on a sweet-blooded deer. And he’s back with the Faith Debate over the phone for a fourth go-round in this four-part series of shows.

Perhaps you’ve heard about, or even been subjected to, “training” (at work or in school) that tells everyone that “all White people contribute to what many call ‘racism’” and that all Caucasians must lament their “white privilege”. And even further, all institutions of the Western World are systemically prejudiced… something called “systemic racism”. These are the claims, And they are increasingly the sorts of claims that are being heard within professing Christian churches… from ministers of the Gospel as they stand in the pulpit, even. One of these ministers of the Gospel of Jesus Christ has a podcast and YouTube channel dedicated to warning against positions such as these. His name is Adam “AD” Robles.

The Trump administration has taken a stand against “critical theory
The Executive Branch says it will cease and desist from using taxpayer dollars to promote: anti-American training specifically dealing with any form of “critical race theory” or “white privilege”, or that says the United States is an inherently evil country, or that any race is inherently racist or evil. Until this hit the news did you even know “critical race theory” was a thing? Even now, do you know what it is? Well, it’s an issue that’s been plaguing the Christian church for years, and people like Adam “AD” Robles have been following it and commenting on it for all the world to hear. Adam has a YouTube channel that he advertises as Uncompromised Christian Commentary.

If handled correctly, controversy sharpens the understanding of the message of Scripture and its application to the contemporary world, so the church can emerge from a period of theological discussion and debate with a much greater clarity on the issue at hand. However, if badly handled, contention over a point of doctrine can be destructive and harmful for the church, potentially leading to unnecessary division and ill-feeling between brothers and sisters in both biological families and the spiritual family of God. Just such a controversy is raging right now over what has been called the “Social Gospel”.

This marks the fourth installment of a four-episode arc of shows featuring the same three men on the panel. Each episode has opened with commentary on a political video produced by Phil Vischer, the creator of Veggie Tales. Please don’t misunderstand, the show likes Veggie Tales, and likes Pill Vischer. However, the cartoons do not represent Christ the way that most seem to think. And neither does Phil.
Many Christian families look at Phil and his Veggie Tales creation and trust him as a biblical voice for the Gospel. Actually, exactly because of Phil Vischer’s work on Veggie Tales he cannot be a trustworthy voice for advancing the biblical Gospel. Many Christian kids have seen all the videos. Many Christian parents have laughed alongside their children while imbibing most of the videos themselves. These animated short stories are examples of good clean fun, highlighting messages of moral behavior. This is good, particularly when compared to most of what passes for children’s entertainment these days.
However, the Veggie Tales universe is a kindhearted moralistic universe. It is not a Christ-exulting, cross-centered universe. Let the body of Christ never forget, moralism is not the biblical message. The Gospel is the biblical message. Vischer’s 17-minute political video is well-crafted and advocates for his point of view very effectively. Yet, as committed Bible students who are humbled by the Good News, the video doesn’t resonate with many followers of Christ because Phil’s not talking to them. At best Phil’s talking at them, which is about all that Critical Race Theory allows.
Undoubtedly Phil means well, and without doubt you do, too, if you’re one of the thousands who have shared the video with others. But Phil’s video offers no solution because Jesus Christ, the Son of God, is the solution… and Phil’s video does not offer Him. And this is a snapshot of what’s going on in today’s world.

Troy Skinner. Pastor of Household of Faith in Christ.

The past two shows opened with comments about a political video produced by Phil Vischer, the creator of Veggie Tales. We started there because when discussing big worldview ideologies that use big fancy philosophical terms it can seem so irrelevant to everyday life, so “out there somewhere”. But it’s right here, right now. And some are warning that it’s a great danger to the Christian church.
Some, administering a generous dose of “benefit of the doubt”, suggest that goal of people like Phil Vischer is to educate evangelicals who, if the broad caricatures are to be believed, are ignorant of (or at least in denial about) the history and the lasting effects of what Critical Race Theororists call “systemic racism”. It’s all rooted in white supremacy, don’t cha know?
But hey, Phil is the creator of the Veggie Tales cartoons and the voice of Bob the Tomato. Those cartoons are marketed to Christian families, so he absolutely must be a trustworthy voice to evangelicals and followers of Christ everywhere, right?
If you have the time and want to take a deep dive into the variety of errors and biases evidenced in Phil Vischer’s 17-minute video, then watch a different video presented by this week’s Faith Debate guest, who spent lots and lots (and lots and lots and lots) of time digging into the research behind Phil Vischer’s comments.
The panel:
Troy Skinner. Pastor of Household of Faith in Christ.

One can only wonder why such an army of professing Christians have offered up teachings (represented pretty well by Phil Vischer, the creator of Veggie Tales, in a viral video) as something delicious for other Christians to gobble up.
Consider, for example, that the video does not quote Scripture once. It does not point to the Gospel even one time. It does not utter the name of Jesus at all, nor does he even use the more generic (and “politically correct” term) “God”. Not once.
Instead Mr. Vischer rattles off a long series of political talking points (from a progressive point of view, as it turns out). The worldview represented is rooted, or influenced by, or at least accidentally borrowing from Critical Race Theory (which is not a biblical philosophy). In fact, Critical Race Theory is a hindrance to the advance of the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

If you like to talk to tomatoes, if a squash can make you smile, if you like to waltz with potatoes up and down the produce aisle, then you’ve probably seen the 17-minute video posted in mid-June by the creator of Veggie Tales.
Phil Vischer’s masterfully crafted presentation of his political views has been making the rounds in social media, especially among professing Christians. As a result, I’ve had several in-person and on-line conversations about Phil’s words. Now, we’re tackling the topic on the Faith Debate.
What exactly is supposed to be the edifying message for Christians in this video? The concluding point made by Mr. Vischer is that people should care about the devastating effects of sin. It took 17 minutes of selective history nuggets, fast-talking statistics, and highly effective marketing language to tell Christians to care about sin? Any true Christ follower already cares, even before hearing Phil’s words. So, the viewer might be excused if feeling a little confused, and perhaps even shortchanged for having wasted 17 minutes of their life.
So, what gives? What is this all about and why should you care?

Do Christians have reason to not support the Black Lives Matter foundation and the movement bearing their name? What about defunding the police? On social media a self-professing Christian who grew up in the church said to me, “Do I think you or white conservative Christians are less likely to oppose murder? No, absolutely not. However, are you more likely to try to justify the actions of a white police officer killing an unarmed black man? Are you less likely to recognize the long-standing, systemic problems that have led to these killings? Are you less outraged when there is no accountability for officers involved in these killings? Are you as concerned about insisting on accountability in these cases? Perhaps, you could tell me.” So, this episode works toward telling him.

A friend of Troy’s recently remarked that, what he called white Christians, “Have lots of posts about riots, unrest, and damage, but almost none about George Floyd’s death or the many victims who preceded him without receiving justice. These posts tell me pretty clearly what’s more important to them. It’s incredibly disappointing to see a discernible group of people who think his death was not worth posting about or commenting on.” The show’s panel discusses what’s happening on the streets, in the news, within the church, and throughout culture.

On Facebook recently Troy had a long exchange with someone holding a progressive (deconstructionist) view of the world. During part of this exchange he wrote: “I took note of your reference to the ‘evil’ we witnessed in the killing of George Floyd because so many white and conservative Christians have run away from this issue.” Is this accurate? Are conservative Christians, especially white Christians, running form the issue?

Many black people have said that they have little expectation of being treated fairly by police in any situation. Even worse, lots of them say they have a high expectation of being demeaned, abused, and being treated violently in any encounter with law enforcement. And yet there are those among them who say that ultimately the problem is not a SKIN problem, but is a SIN problem. If you want to better understand this complex issue and be an agent of reconciliation, then perhaps our discussion here today will provide help along those lines.

These words were recently written by a black man, “I’m angry because the stories of injustice that have been passed down for generations seem to be continuing before our very eyes. I’m angry because white people don’t get it. I’m angry because black people don’t get it, either.” And he added that more than 150 years since the abolition of slavery, you’d think that by now we’d have reached real parity between people of different skin tones. He then continues that, “A lot of white people believe that’s actually where we are. A lot of black people know we aren’t.” What does the biblical Christian church say in response to this?

Lack of accountability. Lack of justice. Their deaths matter. Their lives matter. The issue can’t be avoided. Someone, somewhere, and somehow needs to do something about it. We’re talking about “racism”. Some say we’re talking about “systemic racism”. We talk about it every time something takes place like what happened in August 2014 in Ferguson, Missouri. That’s when and where a white police officer shot and killed Michael Brown, a black teenager. And we’ve been talking about it like crazy this summer. Here we continue our talking about it for a second week on the show.

There are challenges over what are called “race issues” that our society faces every day. Recurrently there are stories in the media that bring the issue front and center. Breonna Taylor killed in her bed. Ahmaud Aubrey killed while he was out jogging. Tamar Rice, a 12-year-old shot while playing in the park. And, of course, George Floyd pinned to the ground by several uniformed police officers until he died. In reaction to things like this there have recently been widespread protests. And related to this there have been violently destructive and deadly riots across the country. What’s a biblical Christian to do and think?

Fear versus faith. Perspective and reality. Church buildings closed. Divide over Romans chapter 13. Quotes for encouragement. Words of challenge.
During the shutdowns spurred on by the coronavirus outbreak, a series of Faith Debate shows were recorded in April. They feature comments, arguments, and thoughts first articulated in February and March of 2020. These shows are intended to stimulate thinking, provide reason for hope, and stand for truth in love. These episodes might be best considered as “time capsules”, given that the content was developed during the onrushing of the storm (February/March/April) but are airing after much will have changed (May/June).
There is purported to be an ancient curse that says, “May you live in interesting times.” These times are interesting, indeed.

How does the Bible take the reader from Genesis to Jesus? Is the foreknowledge of the Messiah’s arrival something that has always interested you? It has Craig Longcor, and he’s hitting up Jonathan Switzer for some basic Christian education. He says that his questions for Jon are coming from a place of ignorance, not a place of opposition. And he thinks maybe he’s in the same place you find yourself.

Jonathan Switzer. Founder of Crossed Bridges in Frederick, Maryland.
Craig Longcor. A one-year radical believer in Christ who attends Bethesda United Methodist Church.

A month or two ago Craig Longcor was a guest on the Faith Debate for several weeks as we talked about the split that’s happening in the United Methodist Church and also the opioid crisis faced by our community. The past couple of weeks he’s been back in the guest chair looking for foundational Christian answers from Jonathon Switzer.

Craig Longcor is a Christian who went to eight years of Catholic school. As such, he says he has a foundation of teachings about Christ that many don’t. And yet, Craig says he doesn’t know all that much about the prophecies pointing to Christ, and he assumes he’s not alone. So, he’s hoping that Jonathan Switzer can help fill in some gaps in his knowledge base, and as the same time perhaps help fill in gaps in your knowledge base.

Did the Hebrew Scriptures Anticipate Christ?
What does the Old Testament say about the coming of Jesus Christ, and how does His coming fulfill these prophecies? These are questions Craig Longcor is asking, and he thinks Jonathan Switzer could possibly have some answers. Craig is a self-described young-in-the-faith Christian. Jon is a pastor and the founder of Crossed Bridges in Frederick.

On the panel for this show is a man who’s very thoughtful and who brings great questions and an engaging style. Jonathan Switzer came to know Craig Longcor in September of 2019 when they worked shoulder-to-shoulder on the “Go Purple” campaign in Frederick. This show talks about the opioid crisis that’s killing thousands upon thousands of Americans (and who knows how many countless individuals around the world) and what people in the faith community are doing about it.

There’s a man named Craig Longcor who has recently become a Christ follower. He’s begun attending a United Methodist Church and, very sweetly, his wife attends with him even though she’s Jewish. Well, one of the questions his wife has is why she can’t be saved without Jesus. We explore the answer to that question on this edition of the Faith Debate.

Imagine you’re a new believer in Christ and you have a Jewish wife who is willing to attend Church with you, but she has lots of questions. Questions like: Why are homosexuals so bad?” “Why are some church members saying that they will grab their AR-57’s if ‘those homosexuals’ come to take their church?” “Why is the denomination we attend about to split over the issue?” Craig Longcor is just such a new believer and he happens to attend Bethesda United Methodist Church.

A stumbling block to many regarding the Christian faith has to do with the discourse about homosexuality. In fact, it’s a stumbling block for entire denominations these days. Just look at the battle royal over the past couple of years within the United Methodist Church. Well, Craig Longcor is a new Christian who happens to be attending a United Methodist Church, and he has some questions. He’s on the panel to get those darn questions answered.
