The Great Barrington Declaration – As infectious disease epidemiologists and public health scientists we have grave concerns about the damaging physical and mental health impacts of the prevailing COVID-19 policies, and recommend an approach we call Focused Protection.
Coming from both the left and right, and around the world, we have devoted our careers to protecting people. Current lockdown policies are producing devastating effects on short and long-term public health. The results (to name a few) include lower childhood vaccination rates, worsening cardiovascular disease outcomes, fewer cancer screenings and deteriorating mental health – leading to greater excess mortality in years to come, with the working class and younger members of society carrying the heaviest burden. Keeping students out of school is a grave injustice.
Keeping these measures in place until a vaccine is available will cause irreparable damage, with the underprivileged disproportionately harmed.
Fortunately, our understanding of the virus is growing. We know that vulnerability to death from COVID-19 is more than a thousand-fold higher in the old and infirm than the young. Indeed, for children, COVID-19 is less dangerous than many other harms, including influenza.
As immunity builds in the population, the risk of infection to all – including the vulnerable – falls. We know that all populations will eventually reach herd immunity – i.e. the point at which the rate of new infections is stable – and that this can be assisted by (but is not dependent upon) a vaccine. Our goal should therefore be to minimize mortality and social harm until we reach herd immunity.
The most compassionate approach that balances the risks and benefits of reaching herd immunity, is to allow those who are at minimal risk of death to live their lives normally to build up immunity to the virus through natural infection, while better protecting those who are at highest risk. We call this Focused Protection.
Adopting measures to protect the vulnerable should be the central aim of public health responses to COVID-19. By way of example, nursing homes should use staff with acquired immunity and perform frequent PCR testing of other staff and all visitors. Staff rotation should be minimized. Retired people living at home should have groceries and other essentials delivered to their home. When possible, they should meet family members outside rather than inside. A comprehensive and detailed list of measures, including approaches to multi-generational households, can be implemented, and is well within the scope and capability of public health professionals.
Those who are not vulnerable should immediately be allowed to resume life as normal. Simple hygiene measures, such as hand washing and staying home when sick should be practiced by everyone to reduce the herd immunity threshold. Schools and universities should be open for in-person teaching. Extracurricular activities, such as sports, should be resumed. Young low-risk adults should work normally, rather than from home. Restaurants and other businesses should open. Arts, music, sport and other cultural activities should resume. People who are more at risk may participate if they wish, while society as a whole enjoys the protection conferred upon the vulnerable by those who have built up herd immunity.

The new rankings put Baltimore in the bottom 15 percent of cities when it comes to best places for jobs. Scottsdale, Arizona, is best on the list, nearby Washington, D.C., is at 23, New York is at 101 and Baltimore is at 127. The rankings weigh cost of living, unemployment rates and lack of opportunity. Over the past 40 years, Baltimore has seen a steady loss of jobs, according to state data. In 1969, there were 540,701 jobs in the city. By 2014, the number of jobs had dropped to 399,363.

This conversation reminds me of when I taught middle school. Almost anytime a Black student had a problem with a White teacher it was due to racism. Hell, sometimes it was racism even when the teacher was Black. Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Ayanna Pressley, and Rashida Tlaibhave are all guilty of horrible statements against Whites, Jews, Christains, and Republicans in general. There are a large number of wrongs in history that have happened. We would like to think that we are able to right those wrongs as we are people that try to to do the best we can. The hard part is that there are some things that are never going to mae right for Black people in America. Some of you might heard that not every Black conservative is a rousing fan of Candace Owens. But what you don't know is that Candace Owens has superfans. That is, people that scour the internet looking for anything that might be a negative comment about Owens.
I like others are grateful for the work that Owens has done during her time in the spotlight. The problem some of us have is that she could do more if she partnered with some Black Conservatives that have ploughed the field already. Owens has not one this, at least to my knowlege. Ms. Owens can do whatever she wants noone is trying to tell her what to do.

We are moving into the 2020 election season and the political left has ramped up their campaign to convince Black Americans they still love us and we still need them. The poliical right continues to burytheir collective heads in the sand about the realities face so many Black Americans. Both parties trot out tokens to persaude Black people to get onboard.

As we wade into the 2020 election season the big question on most of our minds is, are the Democrats going to file to impeach President Trump? As you know some of the Freshmen class of reps were elected on their vow to impeach Trump. Both Nancy Pelosi and Maxine Waters have waffled on the impeachment thing. Waters seems ready to get the trial started while Adam Shiff is putting on the brakes.
What will Pelosi do? This will take her stamp of approval to go through at this point. Can the Democrats be successful in removing Trump from office or damaging him enough to lose in 2020? Will "establishment" Republicans, that have pretty quiet so far see this as their chance to rid their party of the "Orange Plague?
It makes for great political theater and intrigue. But what is it doing to the country. Some believe it is needed to protect the country while other believe it is tering aprt the fabric of our nation.
It never amazes me how people will attach themselves to people, parties, an organizations that mean them harm. People, parties and orginations that do not now nor have they ever had their best intetrest at heart. Today I want to talk a little about planned parenthood and some of the support I see coming from young Black women.
The use of Black clergy and Black educators to push the Negro Project have now been replaced by Black politicains and celebrities.
There is little discussion that America's education systems need an overhaul. For decades the only solution was to throw more money. I have yet to see any corelation data corelating teacher pay with high student achievement.
Most polls that rate school districts only take into account money spent per student and college entrance. I am not sure that going forward that this is a reliable metric for evaluating how schools are doing.
It may be time to give our education system more than a face-lift but completely shift the paradigm on what success in education looks like.

Up to 18,000 students can enroll in the program's first year from families with annual incomes at 300% of federal poverty guidelines. For a family of four, that means those making no more than $77,250. The number of students who can participate could rise in future years.
DeSantis and GOP lawmakers say the program gives parents more school choice for their children, especially those in districts where local public schools are failing and those who have special issues that can be better addressed in a different education setting.
"I personally believe, as a matter of philosophy, that parents know what's best for their kids," the governor said. "What this will do, in one fell swoop, you're offering opportunity for thousands and thousands of low-income students."

Hillsborough County Florida is finally turning into California. After decades 6 school that use native American imagry are going to have to change. 2 High Schools, 1 Middle and 3 Elementary schools are now in the process of make changes to not be offensive to one of the smallest demographics currently enrolled in this school district.

There seems to be a lot of people of color ( I hate that term) that are now asking questions about the Democrat party and liberalism in general now. They are all over all of the social media platforms. They are making videos and getting 1000's of subscribers. They are all taking their turn being the "toast of the town."
I am not envious, I am just tired. There have been some of us on the front lines for a number of years and have to wonder aloud what took so long, what changed, and why now?
Every day we find out that access to and through social media is becoming more and more difficult. All of the major social media outlets are openly hositle to conservatives and conservative views. FaceBook, Twitter, and YouTube have banned, shadow banned, throttled, and demonetized numerous conservative enities in the past 10 years.
So it seems that the only way forward at least in the meantime is to take a step back. Technoloicaly speaking.
We may have to get back a more direct communication method, email and websites.
A great deal has been said and written about the sales tax increase here in Hillsborough County since it was passed in Novemeber of 2018. Hillsborough County Commissioner Stacy White actually filed a lawsuit to challenge the legality of this measure. This of course created a malstrom in local media and government. Today I sat with commisioner White to let him tall his side of the story as it concerns the measure and his lawsuit.

Political parties have found that this class warfare is easy to sell to the electorate. We must look deeper into this topic to see if we or our neighbors might become the collateral damage of this high-stakes game.
President Trump may have over-estimated his deal-making talents when it comes to political ideologues. In most business deals both sides understand that they will not get everything they want from the outset. In the political game when dealing with the virulent left, full victory is the only thing, with the destruction of your enemy. Trump may not have taken this into consideration when he stepped into the Oval Office. Because on 2 very large pieces of his over-arching agenda he has failed. The bad timing of funds for the Border Wall was terrible for sure but the amaturish failure on repeal of Obamacare is almost too much to take.

So many diverse concerns from coast to coast require a system that allows all of its citizens be heard in the most important elections not just those that live in major cities.

Democratic U.S. Rep. Ayanna Pressley (Mass.) introduced legislation Wednesday to lower the federal election voting age from 18 to 16. I submit we do something else, I submit we RAISE the voting age for Congress to 25 and for the president to 30 years old.
