This 5 or 6 part podcast series discusses dystopian literature but centers around the classic book of "1984" by none other than George Orwell. Whether you're reading along with me or just interested about the book this series will be a fun listen. Just beware of spoilers as you get further into the series!
Aaanndddd we've got another episode for you folks today! So welcome to episode four where I will be discussing the protagonist of 1984, Winston Smith, as well as the main conflict within the book. I go into Winston's personality and his relationship with Julia. Then I talk about the Party and how everyone is kind of mindlessly trusting everything the government says except for Winston and Julia (well, they're the only ones we know so far). So come on down and listen in to get deeper into the book because this is the last episode before the final episode where we uncover everything and all the spoilers come out.
And we're back with episode three of "What Went Wrong!" where I discussed the main themes and topics that Orwell hints within the book 1984. As we get further into the book, you can see the themes in certain scenes and through characters even! In this episode I focused more towards the three themes: totalitarianism, communism and media manipulation. You'll hear me talking about totalitarianism for the hundredth time and critize the way children are brought up in the dystopian world within the book. I also found some similarities between 1984 and Ender's Game, another fellow dystopian book with more science fiction-ness, so check it out!
Episode two of "What Went Wrong!" looks into the setting and mood of 1984 where the city of London is controlled by a totalitarian government. We look into Orwell's intentions of how he described the setting and compared to another dystopian novel named "The Giver" by Lois Lowry.
Welcome to the first episode of my new reading log podcast series "What Went Wrong!" In this first episode, I introduce the topic of dystopian literature and get into the book I'm reading for this unit 1984. I go further into some background information about George Orwell as well as looking as the context behind the book and what was happening to society at the time it was published in 1949.
