Blake is a totally new friend to me, and I was so incredibly excited to meet and speak to him. Blake is a composer and musician operating out of New York City, though he grew up in El Paso, Texas which he candidly refers to as “the Winnipeg of the south.” He’s been in the big city for over a decade now, and might I say, he’s killing it! Blake started music very early in childhood, learning piano from his mother and quickly realizing his passion extended beyond just a hobby, and was something that he could see himself pursuing. Since being in New York, Blake has done so much cool stuff - including working with the world famous Drag Queen Tina Burner. I don’t want to say too much more, because this is an absolutely amazing interview, and you should be listening to it, not reading a recap from me!

Ben is an amazingly talented and hard working artist, a self described “maker, actor, mover,” and the curator of APTPOP - a small art gallery here in Vancouver! We have known each other for many years now, starting all the way back in theatre school at Capilano University. Since then, I have followed Ben’s work and can only say that he is an incredible artist and someone that you should all do yourself a favour and check out. Evie is originally from Perth, Western Australia. She has a professional background in running large electronic music events in Australia. So after landing in Nelson she started working for the Kootenay Music Festival and the Tiny Lights Festival as well as doing the marketing for Arts Wells in Wells, BC. She wants to serve her community, and you can really feel that passion come through in our interview.

Hello Broad-WHAT? fans and welcome to our first regular episode back in 2022! It’s been a crazy beginning to the year already for everyone, so we’re especially glad to be back and providing you with more content and interviews from our ever growing and fascinating local arts scene.
This episode is featuring a new friend of mine, David Underhill. David is a theatre artist currently living in Vancouver after graduating from Studio 58 in 2019. Despite being a born Vancouverite, David spent his childhood in Victoria, where he caught the theatre bug so to speak. He has been involved in the art and theatre community since he was in grade school, and that passion is still burning strong today. You may have seen pictures of David floating around Instagram (@underhilarity) which are equally likely to be selfies, screen grabs from recent film and TV work, and pictures of him busking as a living statue.
Needless to say, this is an amazingly interesting episode, so as always, I hope you all enjoy listening to it as much as we enjoyed recording it.

This week’s episode is featuring an old friend of mine who is an absolutely amazing actor, artist, playwright, and so much more - Howard Dai. Howard is a Canadian-Taiwanese actor; born here in Canada and growing up in Taiwan until he was a preteen. His story of discovering the joy of theatre is the sort of thing that I want to listen to over and over again. Erin is originally from a small town called Saanichton on Vancouver Island, where she started dancing from the tender age of 4 years old, and is an alumni of the Canadian College of Performing Arts.
Despite being nervous to start, Erin was an absolutely amazing guest and a new friend who I am very excited to get to learn more about as our relationship continues!

It’s been a crazy couple of years, and these last couple years were pretty scary as it is. This year we just decided that we were going to have a good time and drink a bit of wine and talk about our favourite Halloween-y things! We also played some fun and stupid games and just generally had a spooky ooky good time.

Hello again Broad-WHAT? fans, and welcome to another exciting episode of our little show on this very rainy Vancouver day.
This week’s episode is featuring a multi talented girl boss by the name of Jill Raymond! Jill has been featured twice before on our show. The first was back in season 1, episode 23 which aired WAY back in September of 2017, where we spoke about her career as well as her connection to devised theatre. The second time was in September 2019 in our Broad-WHAT? Reviews Blog post on Hysteria (Direct Theatre Collective) where Jill was not only a lead actor, but also the founder and artistic director of the company.
Jill was actually my first in person interview since the pandemic, which was super exciting for me. She is a British-Canadian artist who was originally born in Newcastle upon Tyne in England, to a British mother and a Canadian father. She has been in Canada for almost 8 years now, and is a producer, actor, teacher, writer, social media marketer, and director.

Bonnie is a Finland born artist who came to Canada with her two moms and her twin brother when she was very young. She has been in multiple shows and productions here in Vancouver, and has even spent some time in London, England!
This was such a fascinating interview, because, as I said above, we knew of each other for years, and walked in the same circles but never had a chance to really get to know each other. Needless to say, I had a great time interviewing this amazing artist.

Shannon was one of my very first guests way back in 2017, and I couldn’t be more excited to have her on again for an update and a catch up.
Shannon is born and raised in Vancouver, and is not an equity theatre performer in town and around the world via Disney Cruise Lines. She also teacher Pure Barre and is even a published author!

Hey everyone! Terribly sorry, but technical difficulties made this episode come out a day late, but I promise that it’s worth the wait. On today’s episode we spoke to Tiana Jung. We had her in an episode on season 1 and we’re so excited to have her here again with us. It’s impossible not to enjoy her friendly and inviting personality, and boy does she have some stories to tell.
Tiana grew up in Port Moody, and has performed in theatre all around Vancouver over the years. She then went to NYU Tish in New York on Broadway to study drama and musical theatre. Unfortunately, she was another victim of graduating during the pandemic. She had to come home in March 2020, hoping that she would be able to return before graduation, but unfortunately that wasn’t the case. She was just about to start tech for an all women show called Pregnancy Pact which unfortunately didn’t get to go forward because of the pandemic. Tiana has been back in Vancouver since March 2020, and we’re so incredibly excited to have her here with us. New York’s loss is Vancouver’s gain!

Hello again my friends and welcome to still another episode of Broad-WHAT?! This week is a particularly exciting one for me because I got to interview one of my oldest friends from back in the Maple Ridge days - Marissa Lyons aka MJ (@mj_onair).
Marissa is a super talented actor, singer, and dancer though she has moved on in her career to become an even more amazing radio host with @thecaseyclarkshow on New Country 103.1 in Kamloops and New Country 100.7 in the Okanagan. She now lives full time in Kamloops and is living the radio dream. I won’t lie, this was one of my all time favourite episodes to record. Marissa and I have a lot of history, and I think that comes through in this interview.

Hello Broad-WHAT? fam! This week is a return back to our normal format, and who better to start things off with a bang than the amazing, multitalented, and exceptionally kind Anna Kuman!
Anna called in for us to do an interview all the way from Dubai, UAE. We said this in the podcast, but if there’s one thing that we can take as a positive from these last 18 months or so, it has made the world smaller. Zoom calls are so much more prevalent, and we are able to connect in a more real way regardless of where we are in the world!
Anna started as a dancer, and over the years has morphed into a singer, actor, director, and choreographer extraordinaire! She has also now submitted her MFA master’s thesis in movement direction and teaching from the Royals Central School of Speech and Drama in London, England. So everyone throw some congratulations her way if you can!
I won’t say much more here, because I don’t want to spoil anything in the episode, but trust me, this one is definitely worth a listen!

Hello Broad-WHAT? fans and welcome to the third episode in our “Artists Graduating During COViD-19” series! This week we will be featuring just two guests, so it’ll be a bit of a shorter one. First up we have the lovely Ray Koh followed by the amazing Nao Marine.
Ray (he/him) is based in Coquitlam and is a recent graduate of the Studio 58 acting program in Vancouver. He has a really interesting origin story with theatre, because he had to convince his very traditional parents that theatre was the right thing for him. Finishing up the episode, we have another new friend, Nao Marine. She is Japanese, and has been in Canada now for six years. She has been studying musical theatre casually since she was eight years old, and at sixteen she made the self described “reckless” choice to go across the world to pursue theatre in English for the first time. After spending one year at a regular high school to help her English language skills, and one year at the Langley Fine Arts School, she auditioned for, got accepted to and graduated from Capilano University’s musical theatre program. Jordan and I knew each other already through their partner Fairlith (also a member of the Broad-WHAT? family), but this is the first time that we really got to sit down and have a one on one chat. They are an actor, burlesque performer, voice over artist, and fight choreographer and professional Dungeon Master. We talked about the world of D&D, how he balances both his stage combat and performance careers, and how D&D and performance are so intrinsically linked.

Hello everyone! May brings us flowers, but also brings us a new batch of brilliant guests that are now a part of the Broad-WHAT? family! Today we get to introduce you all to the amazingly talented Jaycie Dotin! Jaycie was one of the better things to come out of 2020 for me. We connected, and I fell hard for this dynamo of a person.
Jaycie is brilliantly fun to be around. She has an aura that just lights up every space that she’s in, and I was so glad to be able to become friends with such a powerhouse of a person. Sabrielle is an insane talent. Not only does she have literally the most incredible voice I’ve ever heard, every medium she tackles she succeeds in. She’s an incredible actress, producer, choir member, and an even better friend.
Sabrielle has the most tenacity out of everyone I’ve ever met. She is constantly inspiring me with her go-get-it attitude, and the fearless way she attacks everything. She is a shining beacon of light in my life. In this episode, we chatted about what it’s been like to work together on so many projects, what family means to hear, and how to tackle multiple mediums without getting exhausted.

She is a director, writer, actress, and exudes such light while tackling anything she tries. I adore her.

We are here bringing you the last regular episode of 2020, and we had to end with an absolute bang - a great human, and an even better friend, Lucinda Sim. You may recognize her from her from season 1, episode 18 of @broadwhatpodcast where we mostly just talked about our mutual love of Patti Lupone. Before meeting at school, I was told we would be two peas in a pod, and that has proven to be true.
Lucinda is so much more than a triple threat. Of course she's an extremely talented singer, dancer, & actor, but she’s also a choreographer, teacher, yoga teacher, partner, daughter, and friend. We get into it all this episode. This was filmed when we went up to work in Barkerville together which we were in the heat of when we recorded this episode. We got this amazing chance to connect and become closer as ever and I am so lucky! Listening back on this episode where we chat about her family life, taking leaps of faith and following your heart I realized how lucky I am to have such a lifelong friend!

I am of course talking about Daniel Bristol. @daniel.j.bristol is a recent graduate of Studio 58, and since graduating has performed all over British Columbia. I saw him perform when he was still at school and was blown away by his natural charisma and talent on stage. He has a raw way at tackling content that really blew me away; and I knew I had to have him on the show.
Daniel is kind, strong willed, and so very creative. We talked about when he caught the creative bug, how he approaches text, and what his time at @studio58theatre meant to him. He truly is such a sweet person to be around, I was so glad to be introduced to him through this conversation.
Daniel has worked all over BC including Miracle Theatre, ITSAZOO and placed 2nd place overall in the global finals of the World Monologue Games. He’s incredibly talented, and we’re so proud of him. See him next in ITSAZOO/Aphotic Theatre’s production of The Café scheduled to run in 2021.
Hello everyone and welcome to November! This year has been going by crazy fast but also feels like the slowest year ever? Truly the highlight was getting to talk to so many incredible guests, and this week is no different. I was contacted by the world's loveliest person, Bailey. @bailey_madill is a huge theatre fan and wanted to give the broad-what audience insight to a professional ballerina life. Originally from Kamloops, she’s been studying dance all her life and she’s an incredibly talented performer. I’ve had the great pleasure in getting to take one of her ballet classes and she is as brilliant as she is kind.

She can do literally anything, and most recently just joined the team at Disney Cruise lines, fulfilling a lifelong dream. Megan is so kind, and so willing to share her story even though we just met. Ryan: We were lucky to see a piece of HYSTERIA in last years Fringe For All. Seeing the team of Hysteria work so closely together to incorporate contemporary concerns and issues with a nostalgic and relatable piece of media was instantly gratifying and enticing. Their choice of vignette for Fringe For All 2018 was the perfect preview for Fringes-goers. This expert craftsmanship was echoed throughout the 2019 production of Hysteria by the Direct Theatre Collective. The incredible display of human emotion was extremely appreciated as an audience member.
Natalie: It was a privilege to get to spend 80 minutes exploring the discourse of consent and survivor narratives. The strong ensemble of cast members in this production was complemented by impressive and meticulous direction brought by former ensemble members Lauren Martin (she/her) and Ariel Martz-Oberlander (she/her). It was clear that the co-direction welcomed and facilitated a seamless transition into the 2019 production, which welcomed three new voices to Hysteria’s raw narrative and clever call-outs.
The wit and intelligence of the creative team was consistent and clear through the main plot, while featuring personal stories contributed by the cast. As you’re brought into an eerie multi-media reflection of what could come from our foray into technology and conversations about consent, there are very few moments that ostracise the audience from the action on stage. Again, hats off to all involved in the delicate assembly of hard-hitting content, comedy, music, and media with the intimate Havana stage. Hysteria explores our current socio-political climate in a futuristic (but not far-off) technological landscape, where consent is exchanged and monitored through an app. The assimilation of familiar platforms, such as online dating and virtual assistants, was extremely well thought out and utilized throughout the performances. Where voiceovers can sometimes seem out of place and unnecessary, the interactions in Hysteria were welcome and flattering.
R: The emotional arc that Jill Raymond (she/her) went through was gut wrenching and vulnerable, and her strong storytelling at the forefront was a success. Furthermore, Florence Reiher’s (she/her) comedic rhetoric was duly timed and thought provoking. Her musical talents (she contributed some music and lyrics herself) gave the audience time to reflect and process the humour and open the gates to further conversation.
Hysteria gives you the incredible opportunity to sit down and ask yourself where you stand as an ally. As a queer man myself, I’ve had many conversations with my female identifying friends and felt anger at not being able to fix the present norm. To quote the show, “anger is not a productive emotion”. They’re right, it’s not. Upon reflection, as a cis man, it's my job to stand up and ask my fellow men to buy a ticket and continue the conversation.
N: I truly appreciated each and every moment of this piece. It was a modern Vagina Monologues x Black Mirror. The time, energy, and vulnerability poured into Hysteria by every artist is evident in every story, vignette, and musical interlude. I found myself rolling my eyes in agreeance, shooting my eyebrows up in empathy, and laughing at the relatability playing out before me. As a cis gendered woman, the exploration of consent within relationships was particularly relatable. On more than one occasion, I was nodding in agreeance and identifying times in my life where either identical if not similar situations had unfolded. I applaud the efforts and vulnerability of the cast, crew, and creators to assemble these narratives, and ignite the discourse surrounding them. This conversation needs to continue, and I am grateful to this production for doing so in such a perfectly crafted way. Anyone who missed the 2018 version needs to see the 2019, and those who haven’t seen the show at all, get there, be there, and join the conversation.
R: Every person, of every gender identifying category needs to head down to the Havana theatre and see Hysteria. This thought provoking piece of art had something for everyone. It was powerful, insightful and raw. The story telling done by the five powerful humans in the small intimate black box theatre was ultimately the selling feature of the piece.

In a city full of mainstream Rogers and Hammerstein musicals, I found myself at the Wise Hall in Vancouver with my friends, strapping on a mask and awaiting our entry to the unknown.
Down the rabbit hole we did go.
We found ourselves entering the world of Alice in Wonderland in the interactive theatre extravaganza Alice in Glitterland put on by the fan favourite Geekenders performing troupe. Right from the top, you were slapped in the face with excitement, jazz, sex and debauchery as the Red Queen played by Isabella Halliday (she/her) entered and proclaimed “Welcome To Glitterland!”. By the end of the first number you can already tell that this was going to be a night of theatre that you’ll never forget. From the scenic design (Ariel Slack), which included a full sized ball pit, to the incredible choice of music (which I assume that director Farlith Harvey (she/her) had a strong hand in compiling together), you got to throw away your worries and let the night take you away.
Most people that have seen the world famous Sleep No More in New York City would assume that Glitterland was modelled after the that, and though there are some similarities, this was truly like nothing I have ever seen before. The innovative role of “Drink Me” played by Karina Da Juan was THE first scene I stumbled into and her impressive acro and pole skills sold me right away.
Before I get into more of the incredible performances I witnessed, I have to give kudos to the true star of the show - the lighting designer Keegan Elrick. The lighting was sexy, moody and really gave a clear narrative to the different scenes going on.
With more then 10 hour of content and 90+ scenes, there was something for everyone, even for those who were not original familiar with the tale written by Lewis Carrol in 1865. I was lucky enough to catch Shara Turner (they/them) as the White Queen who’s emotional journey was raw, down to earth, and wrought with pain. Halliday as the Red Queen was another show stealer, as her relationship with every cast member shined through with her impressive acting chops and ‘Mother Earth’ like moments.
To be honest, the whole thing was incredibly casted - kudos to Harvey on that front. There was much diversity in the choices, but it goes without saying that these were the right people for their roles, bar none. Rielly Ellis (he/they) as the Cheshire Cat and Jordan Svenkeson (they/them) both had strong acting journeys. Two newer faces that I’ve hadn’t had much chance to see before, I was impressed by their severe animalistic attack on their roles, which was juxtiposed by their deeply human emtotions towards Alice.
And of course, I can’t write this review without speaking about Lydndsey Britten (she/her). I’ve had the pleasure of knowing Lyndsey for quite a while, and never have I seen her in more of a breathtaking role. She studied as a dancer before breaking through the theatre world, and I’ve seen her do many incredible performances on stage but this one takes the cake. Her naive approach, along with her natural sex appeal, beautiful lines, and strong story telling really lead the show to a victory. Britten is a leading lady, and anyone that was lucky enough to snag a ticket was seeing a star being born.
Harvey, and the Geekenders cast of Alice in Glitter-land really did hit it out of the park with this one. With an impressive count of 15 choreographers, and a production team longer then this review it's impossible to name everyone. As a fellow artist and creator, I say bravo!
I’ll end with this. Every actor that was able to be whisked away into Glitterland is now going home to look up when Geekenders next auditions will be, and I’ll be first in line.
Hello everyone! Today is a very special episode for me. I have had the pleasure of getting to witness this young man grow into the kindest, most professional human ever. I am of course speaking of the wonderful and amazing Joshua Lalisan.
Josh and I met in the ensemble of the musical FAME! and ever since then I've had a special place in my heart for him. On today's episode we talked about queer representation, being a dancer, and toxic masculinity in the theatre community. He just finished wrapping up a successful turn as Sky in Mamma Mia! with Theatre Under the Stars and he is going to continue to be a break out star here in Vancouver.

Caleb may be the the sweetest person I’ve ever met. He’s an absolute doll and was so professional and polite it was amazing. He has an incredible signing voice and is actually going to go back to school for his masters degree. He is a driven dude and I freaking adored talking to him.
He just wrapped up his run in Newsies with TUTS and is now about to head off to the United Kingdom.

I asked about the artistic process, we discussed queer representation and what that means to us, and we talked about creating safe environments in the rehearsal hall.

Daniel and I met through the theatre grapevine (though neither of us is sure exactly where, as you’ll hear, haha). We’ve never had a real one on one chat, so it was really exciting to get to talk to him about his past and future plans. Did you know that he can fly a freaking airplane, because I sure didn’t! That was the first of many revelations about this super cool dude, but I won’t wreck the surprise by listing them here.
Of course we talked a lot about internal mental and emotional struggles that surround being an actor, and how to move forward from those struggles. I feel like this is a conversation that I’m having more and more - it’s a tough job people! Self care is super important, especially as an artist.

Hi friends! This week is an absolutely amazing interview with my good friend Taylor Hastings.
Taylor grew up in theatre, but has since transitioned to becoming a film and TV actor. Theatre is still prevalent in her life though, especially in her behind the table side, where she produces both plays and films herself (which is super cool).
We talked a lot about gaining perspective on your art by taking time off/time for self care, especially when anxiety and stress is prevalent in your life. This is something that's particularily important to me right now as it seems like almost everyone in my life is dealing with these sorts of issues to some degree.
We also got to talking about embracing your vulnerability, which is something that is really tough for a lot of people (me included) to do. She maskes some great points about how being vulnerable is an asset, especially when you're creating art.
My favourite thing that we talked about though was when she told about the importance of "feeling like a cowboy" and the concept of "levelling up" in life, which will make a little more sense once you listen I promise, haha!
I could ramble on for eons with this one, but I'm going to leave it there and tell you all to enjoy!

Hannah is a new friend of mine that I met working in the Young Company at the 2017 In Tune Conference with Touchstone Theatre. She is a UBC student and is a powerhouse actor in the BFA program there, where she has been very succesful. I can't wait for her to start really taking the Vancouver theatre scene by storm, and let me tell you, it is definitely going to happen!
We started the session talking about her schooling, and the thing I found most fascinating was the idea of how overwhelming it can be to finally finish a long term goal. Hannah says in this episode that she had been working towards theatre school for almost a decade; and it's been such as defining aspect of her life that she doesn't really know who she is without it.
I don't want to talk too much about the details, but but suffice to say that she has an amazing life story, and is a very inspiring individual.

Devon and I have been great friends for quite some time, so it was great to be able to sit down and talk with her. Stephen is an old friend of mine from back in my Capilano University days, so it was awesome to get a chance to really sit down and talk to him after some time apart.
He's been taking some time off of acting and theatre to do the good old work/save up slog in the last little bit. It was very interesting to get to talk to him from that side of things, because it feels like he's really in an exciting, affirming, and interesting tranitionary period in his life.
He's also didn't start his life as a musical theatre performer, but has been involved in many shows since graduating and is starting to really make a name for himself in that community.
I think that you guys will really love this episode. I know that I loved recording it, so I'm sure you're going to enjoy it too.

Rana is very quickly becoming one of my very, very good friends in this world. We met doing Merrily We Roll Along, and she is a tour de force of a singer, actor, and dancer - I’m so happy that she made her way to this side of the world from her Ontario upbringing.
She has such an interesting history which we got to dig deep into starting at her university days in Ottawa and ending up in Vancouver. She came here all alone knowing no one, which is probably the most frightening thing that I can even possible imagine doing #fearlessrockstar

Coming at you again with those hot new podcast feels! This week we’ve got the one, the only, Vanessa Coley-Donohue. Continuing from Andrew and Jennifer’s episodes over the past couple of weeks, this was another one I was especially excited to record since she and I don’t know each other super well.
What a fascinating and super talented human though, let me tell you! I know that I was especially amazed with her because she’s gone down so many paths in her life so far, the most recent of which has her back at school and learning sign language to become an ASL - English Interpreter.
She is also an excellent actor, singer, and dancer who has been in shows all around the city for many years! Needless to say, I’m a big fan, and I’m happy to have made a new friend!

Hey everyone! Thanks for coming back to listen to another episode! This week I’m really excited to introduce a bunch of you to Melissa Sciarretta.
I’ve known Melissa since she was but wee, and it’s been amazing to watch her grow and mature into the rockstar that she is today! We recorded this interview back in the summer, so we talk a bit about 42nd Street at TUTS, which I hope you all got to see, because it was a good time. Melissa has a long history with TUTS and theatre in this town, and as a young performer with so much talent it’s going to be amazing to see what she does next!

Jennifer and I have met a few times in the past, but we had never really gotten the chance to actually have a good talk. This was recorded back before the Fringe Festival had started, and now on the other end of it, I can honestly say that I am in awe of Jennifer and what she does as an artist and improviser.
We talked a lot about how she got to where she is now, from moving around and being an actor, starting a company, being an improviser, and everything in between.

And we’re back! This is a huge week for us here at BROAD-WHAT? because I got to speak to the amazingly talented Andrew McNee!
Andrew is literally the kindest person that I’ve ever met, and any anxiety that I may have had going into the interview was very quickly dispersed by the general feeling of joy and ease that he brings into the room.
Since I didn’t know him before the interview, I got to talk a lot about what he’s done in his art, how he’s gotten to where he is now, and just generally just dive right in to learning all about him. I’m so happy to have made a new friend in Andrew, and if you haven’t seen Mustard yet at the Arts Club, then I’d highly recommend doing so before it closes.

Today’s theme is work ethic and overcoming adversity. Jen Lynch is such an inspirational human, and she has gone through some shit let me tell you (both literally and figuratively).
She is so talented, but more than that we really spent a lot of time talking about working on yourself instead of relying on talent. It was a very inspirational interview for me.
Most importantly, what I took away from this talk is that if you want to do something then just do it, because you never know what might happen tomorrow.

Jason is an awesome, up-and-coming musical theatre rock start in the making. We first met doing “Bonnie and Clyde” where I made my directing debut with Play on Words Productions, and he played our Young Clyde. Ever since then we’ve been keeping in contact with each other, and it’s been amazing to see the trajectory that his young career has already taken.
In this episode we got to talk a lot about navigating the stress of teenage life while also trying to begin an acting career both in film and on the stage. We also got to talk about his experience as a young asian man with representation in theatre and film, and how the two vary. Let’s just say that this talk further solidified that we still have a long way to go, especially in film on the path to becoming more inclusive of all races and cultures.
Keep an eye out for Jason on stage in the future, since I’ve got a feeling he’s going to be a big freakin’ deal in no time flat!

Hello friends! This week I got to sit down with a new friend of mine, the amazingly talented dancing dynamo: Kyle McCloy! First of all, shout out to the incomparable Jacq Smith who we talk about near the beginning of the show, and she’s just awesome!
Kyle is a local to the lower mainland having grown up in Abbotsford/Langley in his early days, which of course we got to bonding over as I’m a Maple Ridge boy myself, haha. He’s a dancer before anything else which is not often the case for musical theatre performers in Vancouver, especially men-folk, so it was very interesting to talk to him about theatre from that perspective. I love that we got to chat in such detail about him, and his life, and how he grew up, because looking at the man I know today it’s hard to believe that he was an introverted, self confessed nerd growing up!
I’m going to leave it here, because I don’t want to ruin the episode with spoilers, but this one is really great, and Kyle is so intelligent and kind, so take a listen!

Hey everyone! Welcome Elyse Maloway back to Broad-WHAT? again for Season 2. Elyse is truly one of my very best friends and it was so amazing to get to talk to her again here. We went pretty deep this time, and got to talking about how she finds ways to stay strong both in her personal and professional life whether that be through self care or finding ways to ask for help from others.
She is also such an amazing and varied artist, having now been seen on screen and stage in big roles such as Ariel in the Little Mermaid and in supporting roles as well, such as the upcoming TV series “Blue Book” starring Aidan Gillen of Game of Thrones fame! The Little Mermaid was actually her first foray back into musical theater after taking a long hiatus to pursue film and voiceover work instead, so of course we had to talk a bit about all of that.

She and I have spoken in the past and we run in the same circles, however, this is the first time that we have ever had as in depth a conversation as we did here. As a first nations actress whose indigenous heritage hails from the Coast Salish peoples of the Squamish Nation she has many interesting and challenging stories to tell about her life in the arts and in general.
I want to thank her for letting me come and speak to her about her life and experiences. I have learned so much this year so far speaking to so many beautiful and interesting people, and I can’t wait to keep on going!

Hi everyone! This one really has been a long time coming, but I finally managed to convice Cecilly Day to be on the podcast!
She and I have known each other since way back in 2008, and even though we lost connection there in the middle for a bit, I still consider her one of my absolute closest friends in the world. On this podcast we talked about so many topics, from the University of Victoria and their great rabbit purge all the way through to systemic racism and its omnipresence in society and theatre today, and everything in between.
Needless to say, this one really hit me, especially on the heels of hosting the diversity panel a couple of weeks ago. We as a people still have a long way to go.

We’ve known each other for quite a while now, but we’ve never really had the time to just shoot the shit, so it was nice to finally have the chance. Will is actually a dual citizen with the USA having been born and raised there, which made me want to talk a bit about our respective faith systems and relationships with religion.

Kurtis is such an amazing actor, singer, and dancer - a true triple threat! I was so happy to be able to chat with him this week about his unique theatre experience. Being a gay man and playing leading roles can be difficult, because we often find the need to butch it up in a variety of ways.
