The boy are back to discuss some of the recent events on and off the ice this week starting with a passionate debate on whether the Habs organization will consider retiring the numbers of players who have not won a Stanley Cup - specifically Carey Price. They go onto discuss their positional concerns moving forward into next season and celebrate their favourite thing to happen during the 2021-22 season (all three had different answers... sort of)
After an extended break from guests, the boys invited back on of their favourites; the one and only Marc-Andre Perreault. We go down memory lane and chat about the Stanley Cup Finals run to what went wrong in the first half of the season to everything seemingly going right after Martin St. Louis' arrival. As always, the boys had a great time continuing the conversation and discussing a number of topics in and out of Habsland.
The boys are back for a consecutive week for the first time in ages and they had plenty to say. They talked about the Leafs, the Bergevin era compared to the direction that the current Habs brass is taking, Drouin, who is expendable with the trade deadline coming up and whether we need to bring in a new goalie or two. Plus, Mo introduced his plan to bring in a new feature on social media by taking advantage of Twitter Spaces so the boys can chat with their fellow Habs fans during games! Stay tuned for that.
The band is back together and they were ready to go! Given the lack of air time and the trouble getting Mo, John and Mike all in the same (virtual) room at the same time, there was a lot to catch up on. Since the last episode, Martin St. Louis has taken full effect as the Habs head coach, there has been a five-game winning streak, Tyler Toffoli is now a Calgary Flame and both of Montreal's shining young stars Nick Suzuki and Cole Caufield are playing on a different planet. All that to say, they didn't shy away from what they think about moving on from certain players for the greater good, thoughts about trade rumour situations and random updates about Carey Price... skating.
The boys are back in town and you could not have asked for more perfect timing given the bombshell news that dropped this week. Dom Ducharme is out and Marty St. Louis is in as head coach of the Habs. The guys dissected the recent news as well as the Kent Hughes hire and discussed why this all just feels different this time around. They also discussed whether certain players would be next in line to get a change of scenery and even entertained the notion of Subban returning to his old stomping ground. After a month on the sidelines, you do not want to miss this episode!
Lock your doors, turn the flood lights on and set your alarms because the boys are back and looking for trouble. Just kidding - the guys covered the fantastic new hire for the Habs as friend of the podcast Chantal Machabee was named VP, Communications. They talked about why they think she’s a great choice and the uphill battle that awaits her. We welcomed NHL All-Star and Cane's sniper Vincent Trocheck [1:36:00] for a chat about his career, music, family his hometown of Pittsburgh. The guys also touched on the recent decision not to send NHL players to the Olympics and had some fun offering up their favorite binge watching shows in 2022. Spoiler: it’s not the Sopranos.
In one of the quickest turnarounds in FFH history, the boys got together again to add to their discussion about the Gorton hire especially given his recent press conference. It was a special episode in that they recorded immediately after the OT loss to the Predators and they were able to comment on the loss with fresh sets of eyes. They talked about what they liked, didn’t like and what to make of this lame duck season. They added to their discussion about Gorton, the coaching staff and what they would ideally like the new VP to do going forward. Is it a full rebuild? A hybrid approach? Tune in to find out!
This was probably the most chaotic week in Montreal sports in the last decade as Marc Bergevin, Trevor Timmins and Paul Wilson all lost their jobs. The guys had their say on all of it, including what they thought of the hiring of Jeff Gorton, whether they believed in Molson’s two-man approach and who they thought would make a good candidate for the vacant GM job. They also discussed Bergevin’s legacy and whether he left us in a better position than when he started.
Coming off of a big 6-3 win over the Nashville Predators, the guys sat down to discuss what a win like that means to them given the inconsistency of this season so far. Marc Bergevin sat down for a series of interviews and mentioned a few things that included subjects that didn't sit well with Mike, John and Mo. They also talked about the Montreal market seeming to be against any sort of dramatic changes, including a "re-build" of any sort. Or, would they be for big changes at every level at this point? The guys discussed in a jam packed episode.
The boys let their feelings be heard once again this week on everything going on with the 3-9 Habs and tried desperately to shift gears and talk about other problems besides what they believe is coaching. Cole Caufield has been assigned to Laval, Carey Price is on his way back, the Canadiens can't seem to find anything to get them going in any of the three zones on the ice and Mike, John and Mo found themselves questioning what exactly it's going to take to turn this all around. And, while things aren't exactly great in Habsland, some fun was had as they sent out a reminder to their loyal listeners that they appreciate them tuning in given the state of this team.
The guys let off some steam in this episode as they broke down the terrible start to the season. They each explained how the poor start as well as all the drama in the sport lately was affecting them and then tried to make sense of it all. They touched on Bergevin, the coaching staff and debated whether this version of the Habs was still fit for purpose. They each outlined what a successful season would look like at this point and ended on a positive note by talking about their collective passion; food. It’s fright night in Habs land.
It’s time to drop the puck and the guys teed up the new season by talking about the breaking news of the day, Nick Suzuki’s blockbuster deal. They discussed whether Ryan Poehling starting with the big club was the right move and whether the Habs prospect pool has thinned out. They also touched on Carey Price’s situation and why it is so important and meaningful. Last but not least, they gave their thoughts on why Bergevin still hasn’t signed a new deal. It’s a packed episode to start the new season; don’t miss it!
In this very special episode, Mike goes one-on-one with AJ Galante. AJ is proud native of Danbury, CT where he owns and operates Champs Boxing Club and resides with his family. Both AJ and his family recently introduced themselves to the world on the Netflix special “Untold: Crime and Penalties” that tells the story of a high school senior (AJ) becoming the President and General Manager of the UHL’s Danbury Trashers, one of hockey’s most notorious teams to ever hit the ice. We get a little behind the scenes of the Netflix doc, get to know the man behind it all, who Jimmy Galante is as a father and Mike puts AJ’s WWE, hockey and pizza knowledge to the test in one of the most fun rapid fire rounds we’ve ever had!
This week, the boys spent time discussing Ryan Poehling and the centre position for the 2021-22 season along with what they think are major positives and if anything is missing from the potential opening night line-up. They also took the time discuss Robin Lehner's social media statements and what it means to them. And of course, Mike, John and Mo had to provide their own breakdowns of 'The Many Saints of Newark' movie that hit the big screen this weekend.
The boys are back with a massive 150th episode. The potentially hectic year ahead for Nick Suzuki, the amount of band-aids next to names on the training camp roster, Jack Eichel being stripped of the 'C', Jonathan Drouin opening up about his recent struggles off the ice and of course, our main event this week has us welcoming back the king of the 44's, the Alaskan Assassin, Nate Thompson for a fun "rapid fire" style chat to dig deep and find out the important things: the best advice he's ever received from a peer in hockey, what part of his game he's always trying to improve, what's different about the fresh batches of salmon he catches in Alaska and his RIDICULOUS McDonald's order.
With rookie camp underway and the start of the season around the corner, the guys took advantage of the calm before the storm to discuss a range of topics. They talked about Carey Price’s recent interview with Dave Stubbs and how he really felt about the expansion draft. They debated whether Bergevin would make any more moves and whether the Habs are a better team this season, particularly down the middle. The boys are back with an emotional 148th episode that covers everything from the Carolina Hurricane's offer sheet to Jesperi Kotkaniemi to the Habs passing on matching to what the team currently looks now. They also went off on a few topics including the arrival of Christian Dvorak, the fact that draft picks are simply assets and who's out to steal somebody's job during the fast approaching Habs training camp.
In the dead of summer and much of the drama and fireworks off free agency behind us, the boys take to social media and answer some really fun, off-beat and semi controversial questions about the Habs, the podcast and themselves. They build their Mt. Rushmore of both all-time and current Canadiens players, who some of their most memorable guests were, some behind the scenes stories about their favourite guests and somehow get on Johnny Depp's $2M a month spending and where they would locate their four dream homes. Unplanned, unscripted and always a blast!
Hoffman, Savard, Perreault in, Danault and Perry out. Armia and Lehkonen re-sign. Paul Byron will miss five months. Alex Burrows signed a three year extension and there's a new goalie coach in town. We ask ourselves if the Habs are better now than they were last year and we talk about what the remaining free agents may mean to Montreal and if the shopping is over and done with for now.
In an emotionally charged episode, the boys don't hold back voicing their opinions on the recent events of the 2021 NHL Entry Draft. They tried making sense of what the organization was thinking in a completely avoidable situation and gave their takes on how all of this is playing out across the fan base and media. They also broke down the Carey Price news along with the return of John to the show, who did not disappoint!
What a week. Shea Weber is sidelined for a year, Carey Price has wived his no-trade clause, Ducahrme and Richardson have been extended and nobody can find Phil Danault! With the 2021 NHL season officially over, Mike and Mo take a look back at the Stanley Cup Final run and the magical ride the Montreal Canadiens took fans on. A lot has happened and they tried to breakdown most of the recent events as best they could including Marc Bergevin’s comments, the departure of Joel Bouchard to San Diego, what the expansion draft and free agency will look like and what they hope for next season.
The guys delayed things a bit this week in the hope of being able to talk about a Habs win but instead they’re staring down the barrel of a 3-0 deficit in the Cup final. They did their best to make sense of it all and there were a few disagreements! They covered the three losses, what they’ve liked and disliked, Ducharme as a long term solution and the fact that Romanov hasn’t been able to crack the lineup. They also discussed where they see this team going in the immediate future and next season.
Ladies and gentlemen. Boys and girls. Habs fans. Your Montreal Canadiens are heading to the Stanley Cup final. How do you feel? How are you processing what you saw? On the eve of Game 1 of the Stanley Cup semi-finals between the Montreal Canadiens and Vegas Golden Knights, we think there is no better person to both calm the nerves with a few laughs and provide some insider perspective on both the 2021 regular season and this playoff heater the Habs are on than inviting back one of our favourites, Mr. Bryan Mudryk. The legendary broadcaster catches up with the boys on all things Habs, golf, wine and everything in between.
The guys were in quite the celebratory mood following the sweep of the Jets. They continued to try and make sense of this epic Cup run while musing about who they would prefer to play in the third round. They came to the defense of friend of the podcast Craig Button and acknowledged that they had a lot in common with him. Hold the press! The boys offered up their profound apologies for incorrectly writing off the Habs...wait, no they didn’t. They ate a bit of humble pie but explained why they stand by their previous opinions. They also explained why they are now optimistic about their series with the Jets. They naturally touched on the Jake Evans injury and what they made of the suspension handed down by the league which they covered live. Gloves are off. The band is back together and they got things off their chest. A recap of game 1 along with the reaction to the Tavares injury. They also discussed Game 2 and the infamous coaches challenge after three PKs in a row and why that may be a sign of something more dysfunctional at play. This then propelled them into Game 4 and they debated whether the Bergevin era is well and truly over. They talked about the coaching staff, the defence first mentality, the possible interference by the GM and whether Molson has the leadership to do what needs to be done.
It's 24 hours before puck drop and like millions of others, the boys are waiting very impatiently for the first round of the Canadeins-Maple Leafs series to start and it's fairly obvious in episode 135. They give their predictions for all NHL Stanley Cup first round match-up's and also serve up two bold predictions for the outcome of the Habs-Leafs. They also gave their takes on Caufield, Romanov and Kotkaniemi being left out of the line-up for Game 1, their vote for the Habs potential 'game-breaker' besides Carey Price and answer a few of the listeners questions.
The boys had the pleasure of welcoming back respected TVA journalist Marc-Andre Perreault, who took time out of his busy schedule before he gears up for the post-season, to share his thoughts on the 2020-21 regular season, the upcoming playoff series against the Toronto Maple Leafs and much more! Mike and Mo teased their thoughts on the playoffs, got into their choices for Habs MVP and went deep to reflect on a wild and unusual regular season which ironically fired them up for next week!
This weeks episode is packed after a wild week across the league. The guys welcomed back the newly retired Martin St. Pierre who spoke candidly about his time in both the NHL and KHL along with some crazy stories that you have to hear to believe. The boys also broke down the Habs three-game winning streak and the ripple effect Cole Caufield has had by scoring two OT game-winners in the same week. Mike vented about the Tom Wilson fiasco, John gave us all good reason to believe in the idea of Joel Bouchard making a push to the NHL and Mo deflates any reason to question Jesperi Kotkaniemi's future.
This week was an emotional one for the guys. They got into all sorts of heavy topics such as why the defence is playing so poorly, who is to blame and how long this has really been an issue. This week, the guys celebrated the holiday spirit with a lighthearted episode but they made sure to cover business as well. Matt shared his thoughts on Bergevin’s busy off-season, what he thought was the best move so far and why he is so excited to see Josh Anderson play. Matt then graded Bergevin’s off-season with a breakdown and analysis you will not want to miss. They also stressed the importance of celebrating these living legends while they're still with us, as the Habs have done for decades. Mike and John finally had to come to grips with the reality that the post-season will not be in the cards for the Canadiens this season and tried to explain their feelings moving forward as fans and perhaps the few things they can look forward to, hope for and what they feel needs to be done. This week, the guys had the honour of speaking with the captain of the Laval Rocket, Xavier Ouellet. Xavier shared stories about his unique childhood and detailed his love for the game from an early age. He also walked the guys through his emotions on draft day, when he scored his first NHL goal and what it meant to him to become captain of the Rocket. He also had some fascinating takes on the role of fighting in the game and what Joel Bouchard is like as a coach. The guys followed that up with a deep dive on the current situation with the Rocket and their playoff chances. They also discussed the recent Habs win over New Jersey and what Kovalchuk and Thompson mean to the lineup today and beyond.
This week the guys had a few choice topics to discuss. They went over the lackluster game against the Capitals as well as Claude Julien's post-match comments which sparked a bit of a firestorm on social media. Ladies and gentlemen, this week was another topic filled episode. Mike and John addressed all the hot items currently making the rounds in Habs land and the NHL. The boys discussed the two wins against Ottawa and Calgary with a special segment reserved for Mike’s experience of watching Kovalchuk’s OT goal live in Ottawa. In the final episode of 2019, Mike and John covered the Carey Price situation and tried to make sense of his recent struggles while justifying their decision to criticize his play. The guys also touched on the struggling D and wondered what could be behind their problems. John asked Mike whether he thinks the recent losing skid and the problems therein are linked to the reset/rebuild period of transition or whether the problems are more serious; the answer might surprise you. It wasn’t all doom and gloom as Mike praised Max Domi and the play of some our prospects. Episode 54 brings you an in-depth, fun and eye-opening chat with none other than Dale Weise (51:34) Dale talks about his time in Montreal, other organizations, big contrasts between fan bases, what his role as a player is like, along with some John Tortorella and Michel Therrien stories. Mike and John also recap two games against the Minnesota Wild, St. Louis Blues and dive down a few rabbit holes to discuss parity in the NHL and offer some ideas regarding teams & players who get stiffed by taxes.
On this week’s episode, the guys recalled their time together at the home opener with some unforgettable stories. This week, the guys toasted the start of the season with a recap of the games against Carolina and Toronto. Chantal was incredibly generous with her time and answers and the interview eventually turned into a conversation. The guys also talked about Bergevin’s media tour, Ryan Poehling going to Laval, the opening night roster and Geoff Molson’s baller move on Twitter. Episode 51 is a great way to start the season.
To celebrate their 50th episode, the guys were joined by former NHL goaltender and current colour commentator for RDS, Marc Denis. Marc is not just a jack of all trades in the media world but he can talk hockey like the best of them. His insight on Carey Price and the Habs will give fans a lot to think about. The guys also discussed the fallout from Ryan Poehling’s concussion, the rise of Nick Suzuki, the Austin Matthews story and had nothing but praise for Laval Rocket head coach Joel Bouchard’s influence on some of the rookies’ breakout camps.
To celebrate the start of the season, the guys decided to bring back two friends of the podcast: Nate Thompson and John Lu. In the middle of the most exciting time of year in hockey, the guys are joined by Montreal Canadiens Pro Scout and former Hab Reid Simpson. Reid shares stories from his playing days in the NHL and all across professional hockey along with tales from his encounters with some of the heaviest hitters in NHL history, the culture in Montreal and how players and personnel handle the media. He now proudly works for the Montreal Canadiens organization as of one of their pro scouts from his home base in Chicago.
