Meal plans serve as a "non thinking" way for clients to achieve fitness success. But do some of the drawbacks detract from the overall prospect of success?

In this episode, we explore the rigidness of a meal plan and what may serve as a better tool for clients to achieve fitness success.

Vince is someone whom I consider a friend. He recently started up Case Specific Meal Prep (https://www.csmppgh.com/) and I was happy to get a chance to sit down with him and have a chat about it.

I know this opportunity has filled a void for Vince. He is extremely passionate about this business and my hope is that this conversation further helps the audience understand the immense value of a meal prep service. I do honestly think, meal prep delivery services will give grocery stores a battle for market share over food in the coming years.

Children going back to in person schooling, is becoming a reality for a lot of families across the United States. Setting the politics of "if they should, if they shouldn't" aside, what can families do to best insure their children have healthy immune systems?

This topic I find highly valuable not only during the COVID era, but should extend to all times. The family units across the United States are largely lacking leadership when it comes to fitness. The parents do not value fitness, therefore most children do not learn to value fitness. With childhood obesity and Type II Diabetes on the rise, it is time to step up and change this cultural error.

A popular type of social media post I have seen is around deciding and selecting alcoholic beverages that keep in mind fitness or diets. While useful, I wanted to dig a little deeper than just an infographic. In this episode, we explore the impact of different alcohol options as well as strategies to minimize damage to your fitness goals.

I also firmly believe telling clients or individuals to just "stop drinking alcohol" is a very poor and impractical bit of advice. It is much more productive to help people with their weekend habits than trying to convince them to stay at home and be anti-social.

With the COVID lockdowns in place, I felt it would be helpful to talk about speed training. This episode will not exclusively be for high school athletes. There will be plenty of applications for those who want to improve their golf game or pick up basketball skills.

There has been a huge misconception about the proper way to increase athletic speed. We handle this misconception and clear up the confusion.

One thing that has become increasingly clear about the COVID19 outbreak, is that it most severely affects those who are older and/or have other health constraints. Age is one of them, but that is not in our control. One major factor that is in our control however, is our fitness. COVID is having a larger effect on obese individuals according to the data that we have.

Unfortunately, we take our health for granted. It takes a catastrophic event in order to wake us up and to get serious about fitness. This is pathetic and should not be required in order for us to care about fitness. Working out & eating well are such simple concepts, but they require time, effort, money, and prioritization.

In this episode we discuss how most people continue to buy food from a grocery store and how changes to this may be on the horizon. When you look at fitness, it is tough as it is. Anything that brings extra value or makes something easier will be tremendously valuable.

A proper meal prep delivery service can simplify the nutrition aspect of fitness. Who wouldn't want fresh chef quality meals delivered directly to their door? This upcoming trend may be worth jumping on.

Hard hitting episode here! The COVID lockdown has allowed me to reflect a lot on our current society and the health crises we face. Coronavirus is but of one. There are more prevalent and long lasting threats to our health including the ever astronomical US Adult Obesity Rate.

According to the a Feb 2020 report from the CDC, the US Adult Obesity rate is 42.4%. We need to get serious now about tackling this issue. For a lot of individuals weight gain and the path to obesity is a creeping process. It happens slowly over time, which is what makes it insidious. It is my hope, I am able to convince others to make some lifestyle habit changes and I wanted to provided some insight on how to do exactly that.

The American Psychological Association came out with new guidelines for Boys & Men and how to deal with them in therapy, counseling, etc.

The biggest takeaway for us is that the APA specifically mentioned four traits in which they deemed "on the whole, harmful".

Since facing backlash and pushback, the APA through it's Division 51, severely walked back their statements to the point that they are diverting, being untruthful, and not saying a whole heck of a lot.

We take issue with Jason Fung's article and how he pretty much uses it to push his theory on insulin being the cause for obesity.

We reject Jason Fung's opinion on this topic because it is false. Furthermore he is providing excuses to those suffering from obesity. In most cases, obese individuals should take ownership of their circumstances, not find excuses to blame.

Will Gary Taubes give up now? I am curious to see how much longer the keto zealots will hold onto the incorrect theory that insulin is the main driver of obesity.

A new low carb vs low fat study has just been released. It shows no significant different in results after 12 months. Furthermore, it rules out genetics or insulin playing a role on the fat loss. P.S. The group that Taubes co-founded was contributed to the execution of the experiment. So what does that say?

Part of the reason is because they will never work for the long term, so these companies never market to you in that way.

My question to you is....why are you still doing things that won't benefit your 12 month self? Every single change you make should be helping long term not short term.

Ok! Here we are!

Mental Fitness gets fully defined in this 1hr + podcast. We talk about:

how mental fitness is different from mental health, how mental fitness is proactive not reactive, Everyone can increase their mental fitness, Mental Fitness training is NOT for those who are weak, depressed, or generally do not have great mental faculties, Mental Fitness is definitely not instructed by traditional clinical mental health professionals (i.e. psychologists, psychiatrists, therapists, etc)

A general principle that you can apply to both your professional and personal life is empathy.

Instead of arguing endlessly, why not try understanding where are others are coming from? You can still disagree with them....

I believe that our society needs a "Re-Enlightenment Period". We seem to have mostly lost the ability to think critically. We allow marketing to manipulate our emotions and blind us to facts.

Don't be afraid to work up front. There is nothing wrong about a delayed ROI (return on investment). Work for free if it makes sense.

Internships, volunteering, and collaborating on projects that you actually would enjoy doing, are amazing opportunities. Don't let society deter you from seeking joy.

Sometimes if you work hard and get a bit of good luck....you can make a career change happen from working for free up front with zero expectation in return.

Cheesy? Absolutely.....but this tactic will provide you with a short burst of motivation.

See the thing is....many people think you can create ever lasting motivation. The truth is you cannot. Long lasting motivation is a mindset and headspace.

You can't just throw on your favorite jam and except to be hyped up all day long. But....can you get a jolt for the next 30 minutes to an hour? Yup.

What's your reasoning or thought process behind doing really dumb things? Each of us has a specific weakness or area of vulnerability. Let's have a very real conversation about each of ours.

Most individuals flat out play short term results and never even play for the long haul. It can sound boring to say "commit for the next 12 months". There's only one problem with finding that boring.....

It works....straight up. So.....what is the dumb shit you are currently doing?

It is easy as hell to blame your failures on something else. Something external. But easy doesn't always pay off.

Take control of your life. All of it. Everything.

Quit blaming your health conditions on "sugar", "gluten", or "GMOs". The science is clear.....this isn't one villain causing obesity. Blame yourself so that you can control the outcome.

Is it possible to over-consume healthy food? I often see charts and graphs trying to explain this topic. I do believe it is an important topic and should require your attention.

Diets such as paleo, keto, and Atkins all rely on food choices....not the quantity of food. Could this be a massive mistake?

The quickest and fastest way to show your boss or others that you are a negative team player is by having ZERO accountability.

You don't get to blame others for all of your failures. You must OWN them all.

The same happens in business....I watch plenty of business owners firsthand on a regular basis deflect and blame others for any problems. They accept zero role in outcomes and would rather throw others under the bus.

This is just such a losing play both short term and long term. I implore you to think of others. Look for win-win scenarios and deals. Be the bigger person so to speak.

The perception of health is one of the most common mindsets we are experiencing today.

More people are interested in pretending to be healthy than actually being healthy. More people want to brag about their trainer than actually working hard with their trainer.

We need to move to a place where our actions back up our goals. Pretending is not the same as achieving. We all need to be better. Trainers need to be better. Clients need to be better. Humans need to be better.
