Making And Breaking Guitars: Recent Episodes

Ben Smith

A more than slightly geeky look at the world of The Guitar - speaking with the people who make them, and the players who break them. We’ll also be branching out into other, related spheres of guitars and music - songwriters, players of other instruments, tech guys, TV and Film composers, people at the business end - basically anyone who has something to do with the music industry and will make for an interesting conversation, but with a focus on guitars, players and luthiers and other guitar gear builders.I'm Ben Smith , one half of the guitar picking, harmony singing songwriting 'Americana' duo Smith & Brewer. (www.smithandbrewer.com) I love guitars, music and songwriting, and I'll be chatting to others who feel the same.

I'm going to try this again!

I'm going to be doing a series on my own guitars, just a bit of a chat about them, then me playing them. To kick off I'm going to look at my lates 60's-ish Audition electric guitar. Made in Japan, on paper it should be terrible, but it's one of my favourite ever guitars. :-)

On our first episode I talk to Rick Turner of Rick Turner Guitars.  Rick's a real legend in the world of guitar making, and in this episode we cover a lot of different subjects.

Rick told me about the evolution of his Model 1 and Renaissance guitars (As played by Lyndsey Buckingham) his revolutionary Compass Rose acoustic guitars, some new designs he's working on, and many more things.  He's a really nice guy, and it was great to speak with him.

This episode is sponsored by our friends at The North American Guitar in London, the U.K home of the finest custom guitars, including Rick Turner guitars.  Special thanks to Ben Montague there for introducing me to Rick.
