We invite you to attend our next monthly club meeting where we discuss movies from "silent screen to Halloween, and everything scary in between." Hosted by Jeff Owens from classichorrors.club and Richard Chamberlain, the Monster Movie Kid.
On our last episode, #117, Bill Mize met us at the drive-in to discuss “Alice, Sweet Alice.” Here, in an unedited, unfiltered outtake, at least two of the three of us had a lively exchange about, of all things, pro wrestling. I hope you enjoy it…
I'm Scared. You'll be neither alone nor scared when you join us at the drive-in! We'll meet you at the concession stand...
Will the three monster kids get to the center of Revenge of Planet Ape, or will the answers come from beyond the grave?
For this month's meeting, we delve deep into the life and legend of Peter Lorre, focusing on a dark film from the beginning of his career, M (1931), and a comedic film near the end of his career, The Comedy of Terrors (1963.) And, as with all our retrospectives, we'll also talk about everything in between.Join us as we bang the gavel and open this month's meeting of the Classic Horrors Club. If you're not careful, you might learn something, but you'll always have fun...
Roses are red...Violets are blue...Listen to the new episode...Lest Harry Warden kill you!Thank you to Alistair Hughes and Joshua Kennedy for helping make last year special!
is just one highly effective tale from the five-story anthology film from Amicus, Tales from the Crypt (1972.) The characters in each one of them get what's coming to them, whether it's because they're husband killers, wife cheaters, greedy real estate investors, ruthless financiers, or selfish directors of a home for the blind.Join Richard, Jeff, and the Cryptkeeper in watching their stories and judging their fates. Maybe you'll learn a lesson or two... these despicable human beings do not.
they dive deeper into two films: Frankenstein (1931) and Curse of the Crimson Altar, aka The Crimson Cult (1968.)Richard put out the call for listener participation, so we thank Rob Saccone, Billy Dunleavy, and Jamie Dominy for sending us their contributions to an epic episode. We hope everyone enjoys it and maybe even learns something new about King Karloff...
Richard arrive at the beginning of a new era in Mexican film history and experience El vampiro (1957) and its sequel, El ataud del vamprio (1958) on the big screen at the Cine Opera in Mexico City. Come for the poor pronunciation of names. Stay for what is perhaps the biggest difference in opinion your two hosts have ever faced.
Sounds like a zombie movie, huh? Or a alien/mutant brain movie. Well, it surprised at least one of us who learned it's more of a body snatcher movie. But why nitpick? Perhaps it's because we can't think what to write about it and should let our mouths do the talking. Join us for... The Brain Eaters (1958)!For extra entertainment this month, we've got a special video companion in which we list our "Top 10" body snatcher movies...https://youtu.be/1hsa1T5z4OY
Another summer at the drive-in comes to a close with two movies that were surprisingly #1 at the box office the week of Halloween, 1970. As a child, Jeff saw this double-feature at the Enid Drive-In, but as an adult, he and Richard appear at the Middleton Drive-In in Middleton, New York.New York... we know someone who lives there. Might Jonathan swim in to add his two cents worth about Trog and Taste the Blood of Dracula? That's a rhetorical question, but you can add YOUR two cents worth with feedback after you listen to this month's episode...
We're back to the drive-in for a 1963 double feature of troubled productions involving the likes of Roger Corman, Jack Nicholson, and Francis Coppola: The Terror and Dementia 13. Listen what happens when a 57-year old child is careless with his words. Out of the resulting turmoil appears podcasting royalty: Chris Franklin of the Fire & Water Podcast Network and The House of Franklinstein. How much horror can you take?
It's another summer at the drive-in and we're starting with a real double-feature, just like when our two movies were actually shown at the Big Sky Drive-In in 1960... Caltiki, the Immortal Monster, and Tormented. For the next three episodes you can expect starry nights, bustling concession stands, and surprise guests. Now, on with the show...
It's another world premiere movie event as Jeff and Richard are "whooshed" across the pond to London on Friday, February 21st... 1936. There are still seats available, so join us. The "programme" starts at 8:45. There are wonderful Things to Come for you when you listen to this month's episode of The Classic Horrors Club Podcast! In the video companion, Richard sets the stage for Jeff to read excerpts from the H.G. Wells novel with accompanying scenes from the film.
Do you like your calamari so fresh it could crawl off your plate? How about your oysters extra slimy? If so, join Jeff & Richard at the Union Oyster House in Boston, MA on Wednesday, September 18, 1963, for a discussion of a new double feature that just opened at the E.M. Loew's Center theater. Whether you like disembodied hands or underground dwellers, there's something for everyone in this month's episode...Be sure to check out the Video Companion for a special bonus feature or two... https://youtu.be/PjS86e8_7LkEternal thanks to Alistair Hughes and Joshua Kennedy.
You're invited to a world premiere event as the vortex drops Jeff & Richard into a car at the Tascosa Drive-In in Amarillo, Texas, on August 29, 1958. The stars of "The Sun Demon" appear not only on screen, but also in person!! You will see... I mean, hear... a man change from man to monster before your... ears! Never before attempted in any theater... or on any podcast...
The vortex drops Jeff and Richard in Times Square once again, but nine years after their last visit. Things have changed and one of the original movie palaces is scheduled for demolition. Will they have time to watch Werewolf of London before the wrecking ball swings? And what will they think of it?Eternal thanks to Alistair Hughes and Joshua Kennedy!
Previously on the Classic Horrors Club Podcast...In the remote reaches of an undisclosed location, Jeff and Richard discovered a hidden door in their clubhouse. When they opened it, they were sucked into a vortex and sent tumbling through time and space...Where... and when... have they gone?!?Be sure to check out the Video Companion to learn more about Roland West and the scandal that ruined his career:https://youtu.be/X4WMT4wQSMQEternal thanks to: Alistair Hughes and Joshua Kennedy
It's finally here! Eight years in the making! You're invited to join Rich and Jeff for the 100th meeting of the Classic Horrors Club! There's only one movie star and one movie big enough for the podcast: King Kong (1933.)It's an episode as big as Kong, and a celebration you don't want to miss with participation from some of our listeners and members of our Facebook group page. Grab some champagne, take your seat, and let's get started...(for complete episode credits, please visit classichorrors.club)
Putting the "C" in the Classic Horrors Club Podcast, Jeff and Richard finish this year's annual summer at the drive-in with two bonafide classics: Them! (1954) and Invasion of the Body Snatchers (1956.)With a double-time hop, they visit the Tri-City Drive-In in Loma Linda, California, on two different days. Alas, there never was a drive-in double feature for these two films (as far as we know.)Join us for the penultimate episode on our march (like an army of giant ants) toward the century mark. Be sure to go home with the same person, though, especially if they fall asleep during the show...
The much-maligned Atomic Age films, The Giant Gila Monster and The Killer Shrews, both from 1959, may have been made on the cheap, but they accomplish something few Hollywood blockbusters do: inspire our imaginations!Join Jeff and Richard as they travel back in time to the Tri-City Drive-In in San Pedro, California, for the ultimate double-feature that perfectly belongs in the drive-in experience. Jeff's favorite parts of these movies is the dialogue, so visit our YouTube channel, @ClassicHorrorsTV, to hear (and see) some of the best...Songs:The Killer Shrews Theme Songfrom Mystery Science Theater 3000The Mushroom Song by Don Sullivanfrom The Giant Gila Monster (1959)Thank you to Bill Mize!
Join Jeff and Richard as they travel only a few months into the past to watch two movies released 50 years apart, one of them that's 92-years old! First up is Poltergeist (1982) and then it's Freaks (1932.) If you think that's an odd double feature, consider that the third movie on the triple bill was The Exorcist (1973.)They sure know how to program an evening's entertainment on the big screen at Bengies Drive-In Theater in Middle River, Maryland. That's in our friend, Steve Turek's (Die Cast Movie Podcast) neck of the woods, so I wouldn't be surprised if we run into him at the concession stand. I just hope we don't reveal too much about his future... we'd hate to create a time paradox!
Surprise! We're hitting the road early with the first of four summer trips to the drive-in. It's the weekend of June 15, 1973, and Battle for the Planet of the Apes has just opened, giving the Hillcrest Drive-In in Cedar Falls, Iowa, the opportunity to host an unofficial "Go Ape" marathon. We both started our relationship with Planet of the Apes as children, and it's a passion that has consistently remained with us throughout our lives. Please don't take our discussion as criticism... if we didn't love PotA, we wouldn't spend so much time talking about it!Don't miss this month's video on YouTube @ClassicHorrorsTV. It focuses primarily on PotA collectibles and is truly a companion to the audio podcast, where we don't even discuss the wonderful toys, coloring books, comics, etc.https://youtu.be/lqPdJwIhZe8
For a bit of a change of pace, Jeff and Richard discuss two films where there are as many songs as there are monsters: Phantom of the Paradise (1974) and The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975.) Both did their time on the Midnight Movie circuit before the advent of home video boosted one's reputation and tarnished the other's.
Jeff and Richard belatedly celebrate the birthday of Ol' Blood and Thunder, or Mr. Murder, Tod Slaughter. Slaughter has been called a British Boris Karloff. Indeed he made a series of films in the 1930s as similar to each other as Karloff's mad scientist movies were in the United States. However, with his roots in the theater, Slaughter was a unique master of Victorian melodrama, perhaps best known for playing Sweeney Todd, the Demon Barber of Fleet Street, both on stage and screen. He stops short of being a moustache-twirling villain, but never retreats from a maniacal laugh.Let your hosts be your guide for which of Slaughter's films are hits and which ones are misses. They may not be your cup of tea, but we encourage you to take a sip. Just don't drink too much in one sitting...
Jeff and Richard revisit the Hagsploitation subgenre with two films: Hush... Hush, Sweet Charlotte (1964) and Die! Die! My Darling! (1965.) Spoiler alert: we liked them both, but agree that while one is a better movie, the other one is more fun. Do you dare venture a guess as to which is which? The only way to find out for sure is to listen to our latest episode. As Bette Davis swings her meat cleaver at Bruce Dern and Tallulah Bankhead plunges her giant knife toward Stefanie Powers, please take your seat so we can begin this month's meeting...
We're thrilled to have as our guest award-winning writer, illustrator, and pop culture historian, Rob Kelly, from the Fire & Water Podcast Network! Rob recently provided the commentary track for the VCI Entertainment Blu-ray release of Horrors of the Black Museum (1959.)Besides the fact-filled discussion of that film, Jeff and Richard pair it with Black Zoo (1963.) Both are dark and twisted... both feature Michael Gough... both are Herman Cohen productions. It's just a coincidence they both have the word "black" in their titles... or is it?
We don't consider 2023 to be a complete disaster; however, we started the year with It's a Disaster Pt. 2, and are ending it with another episode about 1970s disaster movies. Not horror, you say? What's more terrifying than taking a ride on a flimsily constructed 1930's zeppelin or enjoying the Super Bowl when a blimp floats up behind you, dangerously close to the stadium? This begs the question: what's the difference between a zeppelin and a blimp, anyway?!?
Two years ago, we embarked on a journey into the world of Paul Naschy for the first "Naschy November." Now we're back with part two. This time, we take a deep dive into two of our favorites: The Werewolf vs. the Vampire Woman (1971) and Inquisition (1977.)We also get a little help from another Naschy fan, award-winning author Stephen D. Sullivan, who shares exclusive news with us about an upcoming project featuring Waldemar Daninsky, aka the werewolf. From full moons to Spanish/French inquisitions, it's an episode you don't want to miss!

Corman! Poe! Price! Milland?!? Lovecraft?!? .Roger Corman laid a foundation for his unexpectedly successful series of films based on the works of Edgar Allan Poe with House of Usher in 1960. He put care, thought, and preparation into it, then built from that with future installments..In this month's meeting of the Classic Horrors Club, Jeff and Richard discuss two of the Corman/Poe films from the early 1960s: The Premature Burial (1962) and The Haunted Palace (1963.) Is it a case of the more things change, the more they stay the same?.Note: You're invited to hang around after the episode proper to hear an insider's view of the Hollywood strikes. How'd you like to see a matchup between Reptilicus and Godzilla? You kind of will when Jeff and Richard take their final journey of the summer to the drive-in to watch one-half of a quadruple feature called "Thing-O-Rama." First up is Denmark's one and only Kaiju film, Reptilicus (1961), and one of Japan's many Kaiju films, Godzilla vs. the Thing (1964), aka Mothra vs. Godzilla. This isn't a dream! It's really happening!
Yes, what started as a simple tap on the window turned into an energetic and hilarious conversation about The Legend of Hell House (1973) with Greg D. and Jenius McGee from the Nightmare Junkhead podcast.
They went home to Kansas City after the intermission, but Jeff and Richard hung around to scratch the surface of a bona fide horror classic, Rosemary's Baby (1968.)
It's a terror-ific night at the drive-in... Satan under the stars...

Create your own adventure! Take a notorious outlaw like Billy the Kid or Jesse James, then add a classic horror character like Dracula or Frankenstein. Mix them together for different pairings, but in various combinations, you'll probably end up with the same story. . Then, listen to how writer Carl K. Hittleman and director William Beaudine did it for two 1966 Circle Productions: Billy the Kid vs. Dracula and Jesse James meets Frankenstein's Daughter. Richard and Jeff argue that neither Dracula nor Frankenstein's daughter appear in either film. . Nevertheless, the movies make a perfect double-feature on a hot summer night at the Bel Air Drive-In in Versailles, Indiana. In another tribute episode, Jeff and Richard discuss the life and career of Bert I. Gordon, known by many (thanks to Forrest J. Ackerman) as Mr. B.I.G. You probably know him as the director of such classics as The Amazing Colossal Man and Beginning of the End, but he had a career spanning six decades. Vampires and man-made monsters are usually the subject of horror movies, but what happens when they're used for comedic purposes? Are the characters and situations sturdy enough to support humor?.These are the questions with which Jeff and Richard wrestle in the latest meeting of the Classic Horrors Club when they discuss Uncle Was a Vampire (1959) and Young Frankenstein (1974.) One is a true classic and one... is a movie. (That's meant to be funny; Young Frankenstein is really good!).And that was meant to be funny, too. Do you get it? Comedy is subjective and you may not appreciate it, but there's bound to be something in these two films (and the podcast) to tickle your funny bone. While the world falls apart around us, Jeff and Richard focus on two specific disasters. In San Francisco, a fire rages out of control in the world's tallest building. In New York, a meteor splinter decimates the city. It's going to take more than your regular hosts to cover what's happening, so we've invited some special correspondents.Yes, we're discussing the pinnacle of 1970s disaster films, The Towering Inferno (1974), and what some would consider the nadir, Meteor (1979.) For the first, they're joined by director William Friedkin (The Exorcist)... well, sort of. For the second, they're joined by historian William K. Everson... well, sort of..While your hosts agree on their opinions of the films, they disagree on whether or not it matters that The Curse of the Cat People is supposedly a sequel to Cat People (1942.) In this month's meeting, Jeff and Richard descend into the sub-sub-genre of "eco-horror," which falls beneath the umbrella of "natural horror," a popular sub-genre of the 1970s. These two films in particular make a great double feature because there not about just birds or rats or snakes or bats taking revenge on humans... all of nature is cranky.
In Frogs, the titular amphibians don't really kill anyone... or do they? And in Day of the Animals, the most damage is done by our canine friends. Yeah, the movies are flawed. But, man, are they fun!

For the Halloween 2022 club meeting, join Jeff and Richard as they partake in a double dose of The Raven, one from 1935 and one from 1963. Although both feature Boris Karloff, they're very different films, as are the feelings toward one of them between your two hosts. They stop short of fisticuffs, but one is caught off guard by the reaction of the other. No worries; it's the most wonderful time of the year, so no hard feelings...

For our final trip to the drive-in this summer, we visit the Grand Island Twin in Grand Island, Nebraska, circa 1980. At first, there’s a thick fog, but when it clears, you can see a silver sphere zooming toward your forehead. Jump in the car quickly and you’ll survive for this double-feature from Avco Embassy Pictures…

In what is perhaps one of the oddest double-features Jeff and Rich have ever encountered, the two brave podcasters face Hedorah (the Smog Monster) and the temporarily decapitated head of Ray Milland. During the respective running times of their films, both monsters evolve in ways possible only in the early 1970s. . Spoiler alert if you didn't know: pollution and racism are bad. Yes, these movies have messages! Occasionally heavy-handed, but always fun, Godzilla vs. the Smog Monster and The Thing with Two Heads are worth watching if you haven't seen them. Still not sure? This is a very special episode as we're joined by one of the stars of, not one, but two, of the Ray Harryhausen Sinbad films: Kurt Christian! Kurt went from the hero Haroun in The Golden Voyage of Sinbad (1973), to the villain Rafi in Sinbad & the Eye of the Tiger (1977.) He has great stories to tell about the making of the films and even has a thing or two to say about our first film, The 7th Voyage of Sinbad (1958.) . Thanks to Steve Turek for hosting the conversation and sharing it with all of us. Lon Chaney once told Boris Karloff, "“The trick in this business is to do something totally different from the rest so they’ll take notice of you.” . This month we celebrate the birthday of the great Lon Chaney, "Man of a Thousand Faces." You already know him from The Hunchback of Notre Dame and Phantom of the Opera, but get to know him from He Who Gets Slapped, The Monster, and The Unknown, as we celebrate his life and career. . We're back and ready to launch into cosmic adventure with Professor Bernard Quatermass! In 1955, he performed an "xperiment" of The Creeping Unknown. In 1957, he returned in a sequel (or is it a prequel?) to face an Enemy from Space. And in 1967, he went into the pit to encounter alien grasshoppers that travelled Five Million Years to Earth. . Which one is your favorite? Can you rank them like Richard, or do you have issues with commitment like Jeff? Please join us for the discussion. It's the one thing that may save us... and humanity. . Wow! It's been five years since Jeff and Richard sat down in front of a microphone and recorded their conversation about King Kong (1976.) 64+ episodes and more than 150 movies later, they're still plugging away at it. Who knows if they sound any better, but they're still having fun... . To celebrate, they concoct a theme for movies with the word "Five" in their titles: Five (1951), DImension 5 (1966), and Devil Times Five (1974.) Three different decades... three very different movies, but each a "classic" in its own special way. . Check out the video companion on our YouTube channel. The power of Satan compels you... to listen to this month's episode of The Classic Horrors Club podcast! You'll learn how, at the peak of 1970s "Satanic Panic," three movies had more in common than simple devil worship: The Brotherhood of Satan (1971), The Devil's Rain (1975), and Race with the Devil (1975.) . Jeff and Richard have one of their biggest disagreements about one of them, but escape the podcast without bloodshed. The latter laments an abundance of stupid decisions, while the former insists there wouldn't be any movies without them. What would Shatner do?!? (or Lara Parker?!?) . Jeff and Rich travel through time and space once more for the summer. This time, it's the Riviera Drive-In in Oklahoma City, OK, circa 1977. It's that time of year and your backyard isn't the only place where the creepy crawlies come out at night. On a hot summer night in 1957, the South 29 Drive-In in Charlotte, NC, was invaded by giant spiders, preying mantises, and crabs. . Through the magic of modern technology, Jeff and Rich travel not only halfway across the country, but also 64 years into the past, to attend the drive-in and watch big monsters on the big screen: Tarantula (1956), The Deadly Mantis (1957), and Attack of the Crab Monsters (1957.) . Will they survive? Will you, when you listen to this month's episode of The Classic Horrors Club Podcast? You also don't want to miss our video companion on YouTube, especially this month, because if you like hearing the sounds of the drive-in, you're going to love seeing the sights...
This month we return to a classic horror profile with the star of Dr. Renault's Secret (1942), Fog Island (1945), and Lured (1947), George Zucco. Known as a "spellbinder" on stage and "one-take Zucco" on screen, George Zucco carried a magnificent presence, but was always a gentleman. . Although he was a neighbor of Lionel Atwill, they didn't share the same social life. Nevertheless, the author of Hollywood Babylon II claimed Zucco's final days were just as scandalous. What really happened? Jeff and Richard will set the story straight (with a little help from printed reference materials called, "books.") . We also invite you to watch our companion episode with highlights, bonus features, and outtakes on our YouTube channel. If you like what you hear, you're going to love what you see! Come for the discussion of three mid-40s Universal, uh... classics, then stay for the speculation about the future of physical media collecting. Join Jeff, Richard, and Paula the Ape Woman, with an assist by Joe Carson (thank you, Joe), as they watch and enjoy Captive Wild Woman (1943), Jungle Woman (1944), and The Jungle Captive (1945.) . Yes, "enjoy." These three films sometimes get a bad rap, but there are worse Universal monster movies, even if we can't think of one for sure off the top of our heads. . Afterwards, we're sure you'll have "pleasant dreams, hmmmmm?"

Rich and Jeff are honored to have author and film historian David J. Skal as their special guest for this month's meeting. You may have seen David on TCM last Friday night discussing with Dave Karger four of the 62 movies from his latest book, Fright Favorites. . We chat with David about that, as well as several other topics related to his books and studies. We also ask him the same question we asked our listeners: what was (or is) your go-to horror movie reference book or magazine? Two other authors and club members (Stephen D. Sullivan and Derek M. Koch) join us to answer that question, then Rich and Jeff share theirs.
All that, plus our regular features... It's an episode packed full of monster kid goodness, so take your seats as we call to order this month's meeting of The Classic Horrors Club Podcast...

They watch the beloved Don't Be Afraid of the Dark (Oct. 10, 1973 - ABC Movie of the Week) and Where Have All the People Gone (Oct. 8, 1974 - NBC.) How much does the nostalgia of watching these movies affect their viewing today?

Jeff and Richard take a detour on their way home from school to pick up the Fall Preview TV Guide before their subscription issues arrive in the mail two days later. What do they find in its pages for the 1971 and 1972 seasons?
Two of their viewing pleasures are When Michael Calls (February 5, 1972) and The Devil's Daughter (January 9, 1973), both airing on the ABC Movie of the Week. How do the films hold up nearly 50 years later?
Take your seat, turn on your TV, adjust the antenna, and join this month's meeting of The Classic Horrors Club Podcast... And, in the tradition of those great two-part TV shows, prepare for a cliffhanger...

A month late, we celebrate the birthday of the lovely Karla Chamberlain with her choice of topic: Sherlock Holmes. We span a mere portion of the character's film history with three thrillers: House of Fear (1945), The Hound of the Baskervilles (1959), and A Study in Terror (1965), and we welcome Karla to the podcast to provide her thoughts.
Who's your favorite Holmes? Basil Rathbone? Yea! Peter Cushing? Yea! John Neville? Huh?
Do you prefer a slightly buffoonish Dr. Watson or one who can keep up with the master detective?
Listen to our opinions, then we invite you to leave feedback on yours. Let's call the meeting to order...

From the safety of their bunkers in two different locations, Jeff and Richard connect to discuss the new Blu-ray release of Frankenstein: the True Story, as well as dust off their original segment on the movie from Episode 9. It's a mix of old and new, but mostly business as usual, providing some certainty in an uncertain time.

The 1930s had been a golden decade for Lionel Atwill. He was one of Hollywood's most highly respected and sought-after character actors. He was earning substantial amounts of money that offered him a luxurious standard of living. He was married to an extremely wealthy woman. He traveled often from East Coast to West Coast and back again, making the most of his homes in both - a large house and beach homes in Los Angeles, and a palatial mansion out East in Maryland. He had two yachts, one on a lake near his Baltimore home, the other on the West Coast. He had a valet to look after all his domestic needs. In his social life, he met and entertained rich and important guests - some of the foreign royalty - whose presence gave him prestige and status. It was a dream life.
What could possibly go wrong?

It started in 1972 with an ABC-TV movie called The Night Stalker, continued in 1973 with a sequel called The Night Strangler, and culminated in 1974 with a 20-episode television series called Kolchak: The Night Stalker. Ignoring the 2005 reboot (Stuart Townsend is no Darren McGavin), the saga now continues with... The Classic Horrors Club Podcast!

Our special guests include a vampire, a 14-year old alchemist, a devil dog, and an ape man. Richard selflessly (and patiently) gives Jeff a formal introduction to Doctor Who by way of the two movies that really aren't part of television series canon: Dr. Who & the Daleks (1965) and Daleks' Invasion Earth 2150 A.D. (1966.) You may ask where this subject belongs on The Classic Horrors Club Podcast, but we would reply with two words: Peter Cushing! . When is one movie really three movies (or four, or five)? When it's an anthology! It's Halloween season and there's no better way to maximize your movie-watching time than by consuming as many bite-sized stories as you can. . Between 1932 and 1935, she made seven genre films: Doctor X, The Vampire Bat, The Most Dangerous Game, Mystery of the Wax Museum, King Kong, Black Moon, and The Clairvoyant. Between the two of them, Jeff and Richard watched them all and offer their opinions about the movies and how well Wray fares.

This episode is for two groups of people: those who went to Mars, PA, last month for Monster Bash... and those who didn't. Relive the adventure, or live it vicariously through Jeff and Richard.
On the way back, we listened to two British radio plays: The Slide (1966) and Aliens in the Mind (1977). The latter is an ingenious pairing of Peter Cushing and Vincent Price that we never got to see in a movie.
It's a long one, so let's take our seats and call this month's meeting to order...

The road to Monster Bash begins here as Jeff & Richard discuss three films with a connection to the annual conference in Mars, PA. First up is The Gorgon (1964), the inspiration for Joshua Kennedy's new film, House of the Gorgon, which has its U.S. premiere at the Bash. Next, it's Dr. Jekyll & Sister Hyde (1971), starring Martine Beswick, who will be a special guest at the Bash. Finally, it's Dracula A.D. 1972 (1972), featuring Christopher Neame, who will also be a special guest at the Bash.
It's another Hammer trilogy from The Classic Horrors Club Podcast, one that takes you from the end of the studio's classic era into the heart of its sexy 70's era. Which era is your favorite?

It's an epic battle of titans as Rodan flaps his wings, Mothra spins her cocoon, and Ghidrah bobbles his heads. The titans of terror cause varying levels of destruction, but consistent levels of fun!

Jeff & Richard discuss how the UK, best known for its gothic horrors, fares when London is invaded by giant monsters. Are the British suited for the sub-genre? Look no further than The Giant Behemoth (1959), Konga (1961), and Gorgo (1961) for evidence to support your opinion. Just remember, we aren't British (hence the continued mispronunciation of the word "Quatermass"), but we do play them on the podcast.

Disclaimer: We experienced some technical difficulties during the first 8 minutes or so of our conversation with Steve. Please be patient; they are soon resolved.
Jonathan Angarola also calls in live from Monster Bash for some on-the-spot reporting. He did this by calling and leaving a message at:

THE CLASSIC HORRORS CLUB PODCAST "REMASTERED"! PRESENTING AN EPISODE FIRST RELEASED ON JULY 3, 2017, WITH IMPROVED SOUND QUALITY (HOPEFULLY)...
It's a monster-sized episode (pun intended) as Jeff and Richard report their adventures from Monster Bash and share clips from discussions with VIP guests such as Bert I. Gordon, who, coincidentally, produced and directed this month's movie, The Beginning of the End (1957). Grab a cup of coffee, take your seats and get ready for a meeting that's a little longer than usual, but that will make you feel like you were there with us...
THE CLASSIC HORRORS CLUB PODCAST "REMASTERED"! PRESENTING AN EPISODE FIRST RELEASED ON JUNE 7, 2017, WITH IMPROVED SOUND QUALITY (HOPEFULLY)...
Jeff and Richard “tear it up” in a discussion of two 1970s thrillers, Willard and Ben. Are these little guys cute or creepy? Can they be pets or do they simply carry pestilence? And do we need to worry about Jeff? Take your seats as we call this month’s meeting to order… Welcome to the Classic Horrors Club!
On May 13, 2018, we were saddened to hear of the unexpected death of Margot Kidder at the age of 69. Sure, everyone knows her as Lois Lane, but she's perfectly at home in the podcast because of three of her early films, Sisters (1972), Black Christmas (1974), and The Amityville Horror (1979). With a little help from their friends*, Jeff and Richard discuss these films and the life of this lovely and amazing actress.
*Thank you Chris Franklin, Christopher Page, Steven Turek, and Jonathan Angarola

It's time for our monthly meeting, but we're squeezing in a bonus episode! Jeff tells Richard all about his trip to Los Angeles to attend "50 Years of Planet of the Apes" at the USC School of Cinematic Arts. He shares audio recorded at the panel, "Legacy of the Planet of the Apes," following a 50th anniversary screening of the original Planet of the Apes, which was released in theaters all across the country on April 3, 1968.
Hear stories about production from two men who were there: makeup artist Dan Striepeke and art director William Creber! Hear comments about his childhood obsession from Matt Reeves, director of Dawn of the Planet of the Apes and War for the Planet of the Apes. And hear standup comedy from Dr. Zaius! (Huh? Yeah, you gotta listen!)
All that and "New Business," the birthdays and anniversaries we monster kids celebrate in April; plus, home video releases and the "TV Terror Guide."
