Veterinarians in Ontario must practise from an accredited veterinary facility which ensures all veterinary facilities provide a professional environment and contain the essential equipment required for patient care. Jan Robinson, Registrar and Chief Executive Officer at the College of Veterinarians of Ontario, and Elise Wickett, RVT and Past President of the Ontario Association of Veterinary Technicians, explain the key features of the proposed scope of practice model for the veterinary profession in Ontario. The proposed model includes a new definition of veterinary medicine; a list of authorized activities; title protection for both veterinarians and veterinary technicians; a list of exemptions; and a risk of harm clause.
