That’s more than the entire Gross Domestic Product of Sweden and Spain, and every country in Africa. Apart from mortgages, it’s the biggest source of personal debt in the country - more than car loans and credit card bills. And student debt cannot be erased through bankruptcy. Who benefits? Colleges and universities, who use money from student loans to raise tuition, to build more spectacular buildings, and hire more useless administrators, funded by debt that is destroying an entire generation. Because students can’t walk away from student loans, their credit rating may make it impossible for them to buy a home. The solution? Tucker Carlson suggests we hold colleges accountable for every dollar they dispense in loans. Right now they get all of the benefits and shoulder none of the risks.
