CONQUERING THE MORNING This is not an installment of the perfect morning routine, because one doesn’t exist. I know this may come as a shock to your daily systems at play. But it’s true. You are a human, not an automation machine. Structure is a sound way to give yourself guard rails so you are able to dial in and accomplish a few key items but they are not the end all be all to your value and to the value of your day. So, how do you conquer the morning? According to Tim Ferris, “It’s easier to act your way into a new way of thinking instead of thinking your way into new acting.”This is confirmed by Neuroscientist and Ophthalmologist Andrew Huberman, who is additionally quoted saying, “You can’t change the body with the mind, you must change your mind with the body.”The key principle of a productive morning is FORWARD MOMENTUM to accomplish the most important tasks first. Both the undesirable and the Refreshing. The beauty of this is it threads the needle of generalization and specification, because we are all different and need different approaches for the different lives that we lead. On the practical end, for myself, this looks like setting everything out the night before and following the automated steps I have in place to propel me to get the ball rolling even when I don’t feel like doing them. But that may not be what you need. So in all of your searching, listening to podcasts, reading articles, and 100s of drafts for your morning, find the one thing that gives you life and the one thing that is the most undesirable to do and utilize that as a cascading effect so the rest of your day is of the framework you desire in the cultivation of your maximization. The perfect routine on paper will not give you the tools to act and experience in this experiment we call life. It is the daily rhythm of trial and error, cause and effect, and that is okay. So, do the thing. Set the tone. Shift the perspective. Accomplish the goals. Have fun. Push your limits. And all of the rest of the one offs I could provide you. Conquer the morning, and so maximize yourself, your community, and for the generation to come.

MEMENTO MORI“Remember, you must die.”At times Life is an ugly lie but death is an undeniable truth. We get one go at life. But is this not what makes life beautiful in a remarkable way? It is constrained and causes us to contemplate its limits and the potential of what it could be. It requires us to cherish each moment well.It keeps us sober to the fact that one day, what we know as existence will end. But, it is not to be feared. But welcomed. Death is a gift to be free from the toils and burdens of life and to propel us to live excellently and rightfully. To tend to our bodies well.To accrue resources and invest time properly. To prioritize good relationships. To vastly expand our understanding and experience. To align ourselves to a worthy aim. While sounding potentially morbid, utilize maximum quality of self even when facing death. Look it in the face, recognize your days are numbered, therefore propel yourself to soberly assess what truly matters and what type of person you will be. It doesn’t matter what anyone else thinks. It doesn’t matter about your shortcomings. It only matters if you will let your death be the mark of having made the most of who you are and what you were supposed to do.“My death for the living.”This is an excerpt from my poem ESSENCE.It reminds me that in all things, I want to maximize myself so that even when I go people will still add value to their lives by what I left behind. This happens with each micro moment I am granted by heaven until that day when I am no more present in this world. Having this vantage is a privilege, not a curse. We die knowing that we lived, but truly lived and existed for the welfare of all that was meant to be in our time. You will die. Own it. Know it. Use it. Maximize yourself today. Maximize your effectiveness. Your community. Your world. Your capacity for to propagate a better future for those will live beyond you.

Influence: According to the Oxford Dictionary, influence is: “the capacity to have an effect on the character, development, or behavior of someone or something, or the effect itself.”One of the most potent examples of this was my fourth semester in university.I was a dorm steward (commonly associated with an RA). I led the room, I enforced the order, I was there for these men daily. Weekly dorm cleaning was mandatory. We all knew it was a drag and not the most enjoyable aspect of sharing a room with an additional seven other fellas (as one could imagine).Yet, I wanted to make it as enjoyable, approachable, and automatic as possible. So I curated a playlist that had specific songs to emphasize specific things. Initially it was an upbeat soundtrack for whilst we were cleaning but slowly, overtime, it morphed into something even more. As soon as the playlist began, I would hear audible groans from the other roommates as they could no longer sleep since the playlist was on. Further, the playlist would end with the star spangled banner and other rooms would hear our playlist and proceed to join us in honoring the flag each week as the semester transpired. While I’m not suggesting that conditioning is to be equated to influence, understanding that the outcome produced by the playlist in the men was what influenced them to wake up, know what time it was, clean, and end on a note of purpose. It’s important then, to analyze what subconsciously drives us. What content, behaviors, beliefs, relationships do we allow to directly shape the way we orient ourselves and our purposes? Dr. Healthy Gamer, as his profile is listed, was featured on the Modern Wisdom Podcast this last week, and pertaining to our response to things that have the potential to influence us, he suggests the following, “You can only control your actions and reactions.” W can’t control outcomes or the situation we may walk into, or the consequences of actions that we may have to process from the past. We can only control how we react to them and how we act in the world. This was profound as I reviewed the power of influence as it points to the fact that the responsibility is truly upon us and what we decide will change, morph, and shape us. Therefore, we need to ask, “What are the optics in striving for?”In my body, in my finances, in my relationships, in my intellect, in my spiritual formation. In alignment with setting the tone, we must understand that what we allow to influence us and how we influence will affect who we are today, are tomorrow, and how we will influence the next generation.

SIMPLICITY: AN ANECDOTE TO CHAOS“KEEP IT SIMPLE STUPID”Simplicity is a difficult in this day and age to be cognizant of with regards to business. We over conflate our capacity to not only do many tasks but, in the spirit of maximizing quantity, we often forfeit its maximum quality. In the aforementioned statement above, I want to iterate that stupidity in this context is synonymous with disorganization and a prideful assumption that you are able to exist in overcomplicating things. The harsh reality is, we get one life, one day, one moment as it is granted to us.We have time, energy and focus which we can utilize to be effective people in our lives, places of employment, and in our sense of purpose. With each microcosm of decision that we overlook the simple path forward, we allot the chain reaction of chaos to ensue within our lives. We divert in our standards. We say yes to too many people and menial tasks. We load our schedules with every opportunity to fill it with activities so we seem like we are flourishing. But if you awoke one day, did each thing you set to do to unto completion, and to do it well, what would your day and way of life be consisting of?The key to a peaceful life is one that appropriately allocates your body, time, resources, energy, skill sets and purpose to a life that is zoned into the absolutely essential. It’s not bound, but rather properly liberated to be content, not wanting for what it has not, and devoted to few things well, but not stretched to where it is no longer effective.Do all you do, with all you are.Stop half measuring due to laziness , apathy, or comparison.Choose simplicity, choose order, choose to live peaceably and well. Not only for this moment, not only for this day, but the ones who are to come. That they might cultivate a simple, and peaceful world.

“When in doubt, take the humble route.”One key perspective I’ve sought to implement and reflect on is the path of humility. If you listened to the Q1 Review, this is implicated as the means by which I am approaching this podcast, but I want to get granular on how it transpires to the daily rhythms of life.Thesis: “Humility is the path of progress.”This is the key concept at play in this segment, but what is the foundational content of the prevailing ideology? Humility can be defined as follows:“A truthful assessment in which one accepts who they are and where they realistically stand in conjunction to the ideal they are seeking to conform to.”This is humility with regards to our perspective of life and our traversing it. Further, The character of humility is not a fabrication, nor is it self inflating, but honorable in nature with concern for a right and proper outcome. It breaks down as follows systematically:1.Knowing your ideal/standard/vision2.Knowing your current state in comparison to said standard.3.Knowing the proper means of ascertaining said standard (Stated as your figuring out maximum input for maximum output-Hormozi)In theory this is the means by which humility leads to life progress. But what does it actually look like if we were to directly apply it today or when we wake up tomorrow?Review of the Five Domains (Body, Resources, Social, Intellectual, Spiritual)Body: Have a physical goal and time frame. By weight, Calories, logging progression know your current status. Focus on continual proper training to get there (Good diet, Good form, good recovery).Resources: Have a financial Goal. Look at your current portfolio and accounts to asses your current status. Curate a budget to that will allow you to have an allocated savings, pay off your debts as soon as possible, and finally a means of progressional investing. Social: “Personal Identity”. Assess your strengths, weaknesses, tendencies, and traits. Ask your close circle how you align with your optics of self development or in relationships with others. Keep a smaller circle of trustworthy people for maximum care and value. Develop habits or seek therapy for current needs and past traumas. Intellectual: Know what you want to know and why you want to know it. Choose one field to completely entrance yourself in for a selected time. Seek to read the best and original sources for accuracy of cultivated understanding. Seek to tangibly apply the principles as you learn them. Begin writing or teaching said principles when you truly feel you understand and want to master them. Spiritual Formation: Ask God for wisdom and for proper alignment to the divine will. Seek mentorship from someone whose life and faith you admire. Seek to then mentor someone else in the same capacity. Cultivate the practice of daily spiritual disciplines and service within the local church you attend. Humility sheds off the husk and mask of our cowardice and give us a direct consolation that we are who we are becoming and are meant to be. Therefore, if we seek to have “A truthful assessment in which one accepts who they are and where they realistically stand in conjunction to the ideal they are seeking to conform to,” then we will truly and genuinely progress. We will aid the present world. Thereby cultivating a world for the generations to come.

“Play the victim and you will be the victim.”- Frank from HotRodThe current system of thought that is propagated on our news and major media outlets is one that heralds people who are self proclaimed victims of their situations. While I want to be aware of each situation in its nuisance, ultimately I want to zone in on each of us individually. Because as harsh as it sound the mindset we have with regards to our suffering is the path to growth and maturation. In many ways the necessity of reframing our current circumstances is the strategy we need for long term growth into the maximized version of ourselves. If we allow the moment to define every other moment perpetually we will arrive at the conclusion of the shackles that bind us to the stigma of that mental state. In a very real sense do we want to play the victim or take on the role of the hero and protagonist of our own story? If we asked ourselves what would the ideal/epic version of ourselves would do just as we see them in the mental film, how would we reframe and reorient our lives and actions.

BE STRONGWhat is genuine strength? Is it a personal best bench, squat, and body builder physique? Is it crazy feats of athleticism like captain America curling a helicopter?Or is it more versatile? In our final, brief analysis of the rules for the middle school life group, we have the rule, “BE STRONG”Strength is often associated with the capacity to bear a certain amount of weight or burden depending upon its direct context. This said, that means strength has differing applications. Then it stands, a proper definition or layout of strength will be all encompassing in concept and in application.Simply put, strength was broken down in the group as follows:1.Be strong physically 2.Be strong mentally 3.Be strong emotionally 4.Be strong relationally 5.Be strong spiritually Notice the pattern of process with regards to each of these domains and utilize it to analyze what it would truly mean to be strong in all the areas listed. While strength means more than merely physical capability, it is no less of a necessity to pursue the maximization of one’s physical potential. We are dualistic beings whose bodies affect the state of our minds, emotions, relationships, and our spiritual state. They are inextricably linked as a representation of the physical representing the intangible. Therefore, in the same way that one may have a training regiment to achieve physical mastery, so one must cultivate protocols for each of the other aspects of true strength. This week then, use the aforementioned list as a means of developing daily habitual practices to ask, cultivate, and actively train true strength and fortitude in yourself. Make your body strong. Push your mental limits. Regulate your emotions and deal with the source of those vexations. Restore broken relationships and make amends as much as depends upon you and fortify your direct community. Ask God reinvigorate your faith and zeal for what is right and true and practice spiritual disciplines to pursue devotion. To be strong we must know our current weakness. Accept it for what it truly is. Then pursue with all of our might the cultivation of steady, but assured progress to become those who can take more on for ourselves, others around us, and for those who are to come.

NO EXCUSES Imagine the time we could have reserved or the people we would be had we limited the endless/Useless excuses that we used instead of getting the task at hand done. When these moments derive that feeling in your gut of the tension of passivity, procrastination, or lethargy how do you combat them? The third rule of the small group with the middle school fellas was, “No Excuses.”This one rings true to all of us in some way, form, or fashion. We forget that we have to be at war with ourselves. There is an enemy who wants us to seek foolishness and death. He stalks, lingers, and whispers sweet absurdities in our ear. It’s the comfort of the bed. It’s the thought of tiredness. It’s the random thoughts that make no sense when written down. It’s not logical, it’s not rational, and it wants you.Foolishness is not necessarily only a lack of wisdom, but wanting the fruits of wisdom without going through the necessary process to get there. But each time that we give into that subtle temptation to not do what we know we ought, we relinquish our integrity. This virtue too is like a muscle that must be worked, fed, and recovered for optimal performance. When you make an excuse, you excuse yourself from becoming more of who you could become. In conjunction with taking care of business is making no excuses. You may think it dutiful and mindless, but especially when your feelings want to control your actions, you take ownership of your mind, will, and emotions. Not dealing with the chaos in us properly will lead to internal identity crises, relational strain with your community, an arrogance towards the world, and a lack of cultivation for the next generation. So, be extreme in your standard for yourself and stop making endless excuses that are lies. Pick up the trash if you drop it because you’ll know. Do the homework well, because you’ll know if you didn’t give your all. Complete each rep in the gym well, because you’ll know whether you made true progress or not. Take out the trash or clean the dishes, because you’ll know it’s not the living conditions you want to wake up to tomorrow. Control your anger towards your loved ones or some schmuck who is a jerk to you, because you’ll know they didn’t get the better of you.No excuses means more for you, those around you, and those to come.

TAKE CARE OF BUSINESS “This business called life needs tending to.”“To whom much is given, much is required.”“With great power comes great responsibility.”Few things have been driven into my psyche more than to steward what I have well.Few times have I succeeded in the endeavors before me to really achieve the fullest outcome of the opportunities given to me.In the time with the middle school, young men, the second rule we instantiated was “Take care of business.”Initially this was a way to spur each other on. To get the tasks done that we knew we needed to. But further, to do them with all we are.It is incumbent upon us to pursue each thing God has given us to steward as well as we possibly are able to.Body, Finances/Resources, Social Capacity/Relationships, Mental Intelligence/Comprehension of life, Spiritual Formation. In our businesses we ought to approach these things with true care and intention. Not just accomplish them, but to do it well the first time. Mistakes are required for us to mature, but we must give our all to what we have been given regardless; lest we find waning regret. For a more detailed approach please listen to the second episode of the podcast: THE FIVE DOMAINS. Here you will find the lens by which you can began to appropriate the maximizing of yourself in each major domain.Taking care of business then is not merely to adopt a disciplined stance on productivity but an inner fortitude and resolve to take each moment with care and gratitude as we seek to achieve all that we can become. It is also the means by which we offer a creed to model for ourselves, for others, and in the raising and mentoring of the next generation so they to are not mere busy with good things but the right things in the right way.Take care of business and carefully tend to your business.Time is precious and limited. Don’t waste a second on second hand excuses but embody the full measure of everything in your direct life and the course by which you choose to traverse it.

BE REALAuthenticity is a quality that demands vulnerability and truth. It requires a sober assessment of all you are in comparison to where/who you want to be.Yet, without it, we find ourselves muddled and lost in the ethereal fog of lies, deceptions, and fabrications. If we want to grow and be our true self, we must deal with the harsh reality that we are not yet our ideal. As previously stated on A Survey of Fatherhood II, I had the distinct pleasure of leading a group of middle school students in our local church. In this group we had rules, they knew by heart at the end of my brief time there. The First Rule Was: BE REALWhat does this mean?Simply put, they were reminded weekly to:1.Be real with God, because He already know where you are and can provide clarity on who you are supposed to be.2.Be real with yourself, because if you are unaware of who you are, how are to become all you can become. You need evidence and metrics from your life.3.Be real with others. Don’t waste time in concerning yourself with what others think, because they need someone who is real, raw, and honest with them to create a sense of trustworthiness and stability to perpetuate a higher standard and cultivation of self in their own lives and communities.“State the facts. Tell the truth.”The more we bring to the light who we truly are, the clearer the image of what we are now to what we could be steadily reveals itself. In your day, in your week, in your living, be brutally honest with God, with yourself, and with others. “Faith is the only path forward.” Know Thyself to become thyself.

JORDAN PETERSON: CYCLIC BEHAVIOR.Not closed, not complete, not truly dealt with.“When you start something, see it through.”Don’t ensnare yourself with civilian affairs.Let your yes be yes and no be no.This can apply from the smallest feat to the greatest extent of your capacity. It demands attention, discipline, and resolve to take on.This week, cultivate this in yourself. Each task that you become conscious of, see it through. Don’t pick up your phone. Don’t turn on the music. Don’t start a new project/task. You may suck at it or it may take you longer. But you will know, you did it properly. Further, don’t be just finishing, try aiming the greatest version of what you’re doing. Become enthralled with what is given to you today. In this, you create character, stability, trust with yourself and others, and the wherewithal to be the best you can be. This concept may seem simple, but you are calling to the inner depths of your being to clean those dishes, do your job, restore/resolve that relationship, finish the exercise despite your mental weakness. By learning to do this in yourself we learn to evoke it from those around us. By setting the standard and not wavering from what is required of us.Close the loop.

REGRET IS IN THE SECOND THOUGHTRegret is in the hesitant second thought.Alex Hormozi Quote: “You’re going to lose sleep. You’ll doubt whether it’ll work. You’ll stress to make ends meet. You won’t finish your todo list. You’ll wonder if you made the right call and have no one at to know for years. This is what hard feels like, and that’s okay. Everything worth doing is hard. The more worth doing it is the harder it is, the greater the payoff, the greater the hardship. If it’s hard, good, it means no one else will do it. More for you.”When it comes to your goals. Fitness. Parenting. Your job. Your marriage. The more you wait o do what you know you ought to do, you will accumulate regret. It will haunt you. Starve you. Perpetually loom over you.
