I didn’t write yesterday but I thought about it. The day was slow and I was thankful. An unremarkable brunch, if there is such a thing, and an afternoon with a nap and the open window letting in the air. The day ended with whiskey and tea in the tub while I watched a Matlock rerun.

The kids have been playing outside, yelling, being boys and coming in occasionally to present me with dandelions and other wild flowers from the yard. I have a tiny vase for them on the sink.

The weather is close to perfect today. Breezy. I am sending messages to friends scheduling cocktail hours via video with all of them.

I still put on my brows and lipstick every day. And I bought a pair of orange Shiv Roy pants in jersey that, with a black shirt, will undoubtedly become my uniform. And I still make coffee and brunch every day. It’s good to know these things are always true about me. I still want to look like myself in the house, look like I care, because I do. And this tells me that if I want to dress up even though no one sees me, it must be a personal value. More than vanity and indulgence. It’s tiny acts of consistency and richness in life that make me realize this really is just me.

This afternoon James and I took his pastels down the street and drew the neighbor's tulips on his sketch pad. He added sunshine and wind, the sensory experiences of the picture. It's inside now, sitting on the kitchen table for viewing.
