More than a decade ago I used to watch Doreen Virtue’s weekly tarot forecast and eagerly wait to see if her predictions came true. Like so many other folks who were looking to modern new age spirituality to answer questions and help create a life full of purpose. She offered tarot-esque decks that had themes like mermaids and angels and said anyone could learn how to read and hear the voices. It was all so fluffy and fun. But then Doreen seemingly heard the voice of God, became a born-again Christian, and denounced all her previous work. She now spends her time telling her followers how to be good Christians and how to spot the devil in modern new-age culture. Plot twist!

It’s time we take a deeper look at the people, projects, and moments in pop culture that have used spirituality, religion, or the occult as a vehicle for creativity. And who better to start with than Madonna and her song “Like A Prayer”? What kind of symbolism did this song use? What were her motives? And what kind of effect did it have on her fans? We also chat about her connection to Kabala and how it seemed to inspire a wave of celebrity support in the early 2000s. Remember that little red string? So, we ask the question, can religion be fashionable?

Ok so Kim Petras released a new song called If Jesus Was A Rockstar and I thought it was a nice example of spirituality/religion making a cameo in a pop song and wondered if it could provide an opportunity for Kim’s fans to consider or re-conceptualize Jesus/religion/spirituality. Let’s just say we did not come to a consensus.

He believes that his time as a fame-obsessed, hard-partying club-kid was a conduit for his spirituality and is passionate to connect with people who've also had unconventional or scandalous experiences exploring their own spirituality. Peter shamelessly explores the spiritual power of celebrities like Britney Spears, Courtney Love, Paris Hilton and The Real Housewives.
Guests include RuPaul's Drag Race Superstars, Reality TV stars, Scientists, witches, psychics, tarot readers, naturopathic doctors and regular people who've been affected by modern Spirituality.

Ok, so I was accused of hating all wealthy people this week when I shared my opinions about the way personal boundaries manifest in reality tv. I think there is a certain level of personal accountability when you knowingly open your personal life up to be consumed by entertainment.

I saw the movie Bro’s and it made me feel a whole bunch of things: pride that there is a gay rom-com out there in the mainstream, excitement and jealousy for the next generation who gets to grow up in a world with more visibility to queer stories and also a sense of longing for the young, fearless performer I used to be.

After having a chat with Evan’s Dad about polishing shoes, I realized there aren’t many activities we do on a regular basis in modern life that require extended care, focus and attention to detail, everything is disposal and designed to be consumed quickly. This fit in nicely with my recently exploration of mindfulness. I wonder what kind of affect this has on our minds and quality of life.

The Superficial Spirit is a podcast that explores how pop culture affects our spiritual experiences and seeks to uncover unconventional ways people experience the divine…Every episode explores a different area of spirituality including tarot, crystals, psychics, manifesting, plant medicine and modern new-age trends. In the podcast, we ask questions like is modern spirituality a cult? Is Ayahuasca really that profound? Are psychics and tarot even real? What about fame, money, sex and social media? How do they affect our spirituality? Can the superficial really be profound? Ultimately, we believe in one thing: spirituality is real but the tools we use to define it may not be magical at all.
The Superficial Spirit is hosted by Peter Breeze, a former club kid and underground pop star who found success in queer clubs across Canada and America.
Every episode includes a segment with @jessica.daily, Peter's Spiritual correspondent and a former reiki master and intuitive who's become passionate about sharing her own journey becoming disillusioned from the new age community. Jessica shares personal horror stories and hot takes about popular new age topics like tarot, psychics, mediums, ayahuasca retreats, crystals, ufo's and aliens.

In this episode, I’m chatting with Kat, one of the creators and driving force behind the popular Instagram account Cult Of Spirituality. Obviously, with a name like that, I had to invite them on, and they did not disappoint. They share about their personal journey with the New Age community and the ripple effect it had on their lives, the motivating factors behind the popular Instagram account, what it’s like to constantly be engaged with such extreme opinions and the biggest challenges they face in today’s wellness world. We touch on big topics like White Supremacy and Transphobia so buckle up, it’s a juicy one!!

The first time Derek was on the show was to talk about how Lady Gaga saved his life. By opening up about her own mental health and medication journey she made him feel more comfortable taking control of his own. Ever since, Derek and I have been blowing up each other’s DM’s about my podcast guests, Britney’s IG and gossip about the queens from Canada’s Drag Race. Derek is back to take a deep dive into the big question: what it really means to be spiritual, why are people seeking this experience out, how to define it and where to draw the line when it comes to faith-based experiences and/or healing. He’s a fan and a critic and we love him for it.

I’ve been really open about the ways pop culture, and specifically, the tabloid culture of the 2009ish era that featured Paris, Lindsay and Britney, and in this episode, I chat with Andrew about the affects these narratives had on my ideas about partying and sobriety and explore how things may have been different if I had celebrity role models who made sobriety and wellness seem “cool”, something that is more common now. Andrew and I talk about famous sober folks and the effects these stories have on generations of people who have become more open to sobriety. What a fun convo!!\

Today Jess and I take a dive into the Cover Story podcast by New York Magazine that takes a look at a study that was conducted to uncover the effect MDMA would have on treating PTSD. While I really enjoyed part 1 of this season when they covered problematic behaviours during Ayahuasca ceremonies and retreats I found this part of the podcast a little shallow. There were some interesting moments but generally, I feel like they were trying really hard to uncover a story that felt a bit weak when it comes to speaking about MDMA therapy as a whole. It also brings up a wider conversation about folks who are looking into alternative therapies to help them heal, what it means for people who experience trauma and how folks with addiction may benefit, or not, from exploring mind-altering alternatives to traditional therapies.

Ok, I was going to post this episode later in July but I couldn’t wait to post it because Miss Mary Zilba was dishing all kinds of tea about the rumored upcoming reunion for Real Housewives Of Vancouver and a POTENTIAL SEASON 3 10 YEARS LATER. Mary and I talk about how she got cast in the show and what it was like filming. We talk about her relationship with Ronnie and how it changed over the course of two seasons. Of course, we talk about Jodi and her explosive behaviour and the ripple effect it had on Mary’s personal life. Mary tells me why RHOV was cancelled, the upcoming reunion, rumblings of a season 3 and what it would take to get her to sign on.
This was such a fun interview. Omg.

I finally got to sit down and chat with Synthia Kiss!! Long time fan of Superficial Spirit, we’ve been trying to lock down an interview for a long time. Even before Canada’s Drag Race. Synthia and I chat about our shared history and experience of being blond twinks obsessed with fame and her journey from the clickity-clack of corporate Canada to the bright and shiny world of reality tv stardom. We breakdown what it was like auditioning for the show, getting cast, keeping it a secret and then surprising her best friends ON CAMERA. We also talk about the rich and sometimes dramatic herstory of Bratpack and what its been like being part of a drag super girl group. Of course, we touch on being on a season plagued by the pandemic and a certain scandal that popped up during a season 2 panel at Drag Con 2022. I could talk to Synthia forever!!!

I recently came across a post on Instagram of some spiritual thought leader telling people, in a very aggressive tone, that they need to let go of their desires in order to manifest them. It’s such a toxic cycle of preaching the power of our minds to create reality while simultaneously telling people they need to let go of the things they want in order to get them. It doesn’t make sense. Jess and I break down healthy and non-healthy ideas of what detachment could mean.
Then, I speak with Columbian - French - Canadian Drag Queen Adriana. Fresh of the hells of DragCon and that little incident during the season 2 panel, I talk to her about her journey to drag, what it was like auditioning and making it on the show, the filming process and yes the drama with her fellow castmates. It was such a fun convo!

Interview: Today I chat with Dylan who reached out to me on Instagram with a great story about his journey with a spiritual awakening, immersing himself into the new age community and the ripple effect those people and places had on him. The reason I enjoyed this conversation is its nice to hear the perspective of a real person who has lived these experiences, not just talking about spirituality and new age concepts as hypotheticals or large groups or generalizations.

Intro: Ok, talking to all these mediums is making me miss reading tarot! I used to have so much fun doing it and hearing my guests talk about how “everyone can be a medium” really makes me want to get good at talking to dead ppl and having my own tv show, hellur!
Spiritual Topic: Jess and I chat breakdown the idea that spirituality is just a story we tell ourselves. I love this concept. Even though it might not seem like a profound realization, for some reason it’s been really resonating with me lately. I think there is a lot of power in taking back your storytelling powers and choosing wisely the storytellers you listen to!
Interview: I chat with Hannah Macintyre, a popular UK medium who hosts the podcast, Mediumship Matters. She tells me about her experience as a medium and dealing with non-believers and people who are constantly trying to prove her right…or wrong! We explore the way spirit may choose to connect with people and how to know if its happening to you. She also loves RuPaul’s Drag Race so we chat about the power of transformation and reality tv.
You can find Hannah on instagram @hannahmedium and #HannahMedium and her podcast, Mediumship Matters wherever you listen to podcast.

Intro: I start the show by giving you a little update about the Country Clairvoyant episodes and his reaction to the episodes. Let me know if you have any other accounts that would be worth exploring!
Spiritual Topic: Jess and I chat about authenticity. What does it mean? Why are we so obsessed with being it and what lengths are we willing to go to to let our “true selves” out.
Interview: I chat with Graham Conway about his new journey into learning how to me a medium. I ask him what drew him to it, who his teachers are and what makes him think he’s got the gift. Obviously I ask him about the criticism that people who teach others how to be psychic or medium are just trying to make money and how he reconciles his own doubt about himself, his teachers and the path he’s on. I think its important to give space to folks who are feeling excited and engaged and inspired by new age tangs.

Intro: This episode is formatted a bit differently. To start things off, Jess and I will be setting up my interview with the Country Clairvoyant, how we came across his Instagram account, our first impressions and my experience interviewing him. We talk about the rise of meme accounts that build a following criticizing the new age community while also profiting from it at the same time.
Interview: I interview the Country Clairvoyant himself, Christian Bradley West, owner of the popular meme account with 50K followers. I ask him how his account came to be, how it got so popular and how he manages to ride the line between critique and professional new ager. Christian opens up about his personal experience with spirituality, his business and approach to healing his clients and advice for people who are seeking spiritual truth.

Intro: I chat about feeling torn between believing in manifesting and that anything is possible and also the reality is not everyone can live their dream. I feel like I’ve experienced both sides and I know people on both sides who are equally convincing. Can both things be true?
Spiritual Topic: I recently watched Madonna do a Q&A with a room full of A list celebs in which she gave live and spiritual advice. At first, I loved it and felt really inspired by her career and her message but then I had a lingering feeling like taking advice from celebrities is probably not the best idea. Jess helps me break it down.
Interview: My guest this week is drag superstar Gia Metric! We talk about Gia’s early drag career leading up to auditioning for Canada’s Drag Race, her experience auditioning and what it was like to finally get cast and film an entire season. Gia opens up about the struggle of reality TV and the ripple effect the spotlight and fandom can have on your life and mental health. Gia also lets us in on a brand new secret project she’s working on and its VERY EXCITING!

The Superficial Spirit is a podcast that explores how pop culture affects our spiritual experiences and seeks to uncover unconventional ways people experience the divine… Every episode explores a different area of spirituality including tarot, crystals, psychics, manifesting, plant medicine and modern new-age trends.

Intro: I talk about a new piece I’ve written called Channeling The Holy Spearit about how the Free Britney movement mirrored my journey unravelling from pop culture and modern spirituality, I also breaks down the difference between doing “spiritual” things and just living a spiritual life.
Spiritual Topic: I break down his recent trip to Mexico complete with a plethora of new-age run-ins that had Peter triggered. White people who move to “exotic” locations to “live their dreams” and sell “spiritual” and “wellness” experiences. Peter met a coach who seemed more like a living meme than an actual person.
Interview: Frankie and I discuss his experience on Canada’s Drag Race and his experience living with HIV. We chat about being a club star and how nightlife shaped us and the role social media places in Frankie’s personal and professional life. We also touch on the hyper-focus on sex in the gay community and why pnp culture might be problematic but it’s much more diverse than you think.

Intro: Criticism I’ve been getting about the “new tone” of the podcast.
Spiritual Topic: New York Magazine’s Cover Story Podcast: Ayahuasca horror stories and sketchy gurus. Jessica and I discuss the podcast and compare it to our own Aya horror stories.
Interview: Dr. Paul ND and I discuss the recent criticisms of the new age community and try to understand where its coming from and why we are focusing on the problematic aspects. Paul takes us on a little history lesson of the origins of the new age philosophy and sheds some light on the other side of the argument; that there is a lot of power and beauty in the new age world if we could only get past the modern and superficial interpretation of it.

Ok, I'm sitting down with some of my FAMOUS FRIENDS to chat about life a year into the pandemic, thriving in the digital landscape, managing drag drama behind the scenes, and strategies to cope with toxic situations and the unexpected ways nightlife had profound effects on all of our lives. The reason why I wanted to have these three guests on the show together is that well, we're all friends, but also we've each had a "moment" in nightlife where we celebrated and got to live our superstar fantasies. Y'all know I love talking about fame and all its manifestations and nightlife fame is a special kinda magic. This is a fun convo and I know you'll love it!

Keeping with the theme of shoving as many big personalities as possible onto one show I have the stars of Text Me Live with me today: Thanks Jem and Shanda Leer, my fav drunk moms/aunties/neighbourhood watch doggettes. We chat about life into the pandemmy, now that's been a year, how to manage drag drama, the dynamic of Shanda and Jem on Text Me Live and THEN THE CONVERSATION TAKES AN UNEXPECTED TURN AND WE HAVE A VERY GRAPHIC CONVERSATION ABOUT TWITTER PORN AND KINKS. So, please listen at your own risk. The whole thing had me squealing, honestly.

I'm going back to the KELOWNAFORNIA and chatting with two of my favourite Okanagan queers, Sparkle, and Dustyn! Evan and I lived in Kelowna almost two years ago before coming to Toronto and it was quite...something. Lol. Definitely one of the more challenging times in our life. But that didn't stop some amazing things from happening. I got to work with them to create the first-ever monthly queer event at a nightclub called FRUITCAKE and the first-ever pride event at Big White Ski Resort called PEAK PRIDE. It was a lot of firsts for us and a really exciting time. We reminisce about our creative time together, the perks and pitfalls of being creative in such a small scene, THE ANTI MASK RALLIES that happen WEEKLY in Kelowna, and why moving to the Okanagan is a GOOD IDEA for anyone who wants to live THE SIMPLE LIFE, henni.

in this episode, I talk to long-time friend, artist, and true crime superfan, Kat Thorsen. Kat and I met in Vancouver when I was a talent agent and she told me about a case that she had been researching for more than ten years at that point. It's the infamous "Babes In The Woods" case about a couple of child skeletons that were found in Stanley Park decades earlier. The case crossed Kat's path very serendipitously and ever since her work and connection to the case and the people involved have had a profound effect on her, her spirit, and how she lives her life. She has created an amazing graphic novel to compliment her work on the case and recently broken down her 18 years of work into three exciting parts....but more on that later.
In this episode, we talk about what pulled Kat towards true crime in the first case (it was Pickton), the process of inserting herself amongst the tight knight circle of the victim's friends and families, how stumbling upon the Babes In The Woods case changed her life and how ghosts and spirituality seem to keep her on the right track, towards the ultimate truth.
This conversation, like so many I've had on the show, feels very much like the start of something brand new and exciting.

Just a heads up, in this episode I will be discussing sexual misconduct that happens under the guise of spiritual healing and in spaces that have been designated safe, sacred, or reserved for the "conscious community". This may be triggering for some listeners. If, after listening to this episode, you feel like you may need support please don't hesitate to reach out. I'm not a professional but I would be happy to help find proper resources.
OK, so one of the unexpected things that have happened because of this show is conversations that take a more critical look at the new age/spiritual community. After I spoke with Matthew from the Conspirituality podcast I started having some really interesting, and quite frankly disturbing, conversations from people who had encountered problematic behaviors in these communities. My friend Laura is one of them and today she's sharing her story. This is not a conversation in which we are calling out certain people and places, more of a general discussion with specific references to a music festival in particular and the scandals that stemmed from some of its attendees and social leaders who had built a following. Laura is not the only person who has reached out with similar stories but we've got to start somewhere...

FRESH OFF THE ANNOUCEMENT THAT SHE IS LEAVING VANCOUVER!!! I have a VETERAN in the Canadian drag community - RAYE MUTHA FUCKEN SUNSHINE!! Like a lot of my guests (lol) I got way back with Raye, back to the ORIGINAL ODYSSEY when we were just lil drug babies trying to become famous. It was great to take a walk down memory lane and talk about how club culture has pretty much moved entirely online and how that affects the artists journey, how they express themselves and connect with their audiences. This is a great episode for anyone who has experience with mental health or addiction issues or folks who are curious about sobriety! Raye and I have similar experience when it comes to excess and we talk about how fun times can turn really dark and how the transition to sobriety it's not always black and white. Of course, we talk about drag race and where she's at creatively and share our predictions for where drag can go. AND YES WE TALK ABOUT SPIRITUALITY. Check it out!

LIVE FAST DIE YOUNG BAD GIRLS DO IT WELL. Oh lordt, how things are changing!!! Today I am talking to my forever sister and one time partner in crime Parker McMullin aka Jane Smoker. This is actually my 2nd interview with Parker, I lost the first one when I switched computers - oopsie. Anyway, I saw a video on Insta recently of an old interview with Lindsay Lohan on the David Letterman show. He is teasing her about her sobriety and continued stints in rehab and seeing it through a 2021 lens is pretty cringeworthy which seems to be a theme these days with former Hollywood "bad girls". First we had the Paris Hilton documentary, then Britney's and now clips are surfacing to Lindsay. The whole conversation about the toxicity of tabloid culture is a hard pill to swallow because that is the exact place I got most of my inspiration for decades of my life. Watching those women on Perez and TMZ made me crave destruction and chaos and no one understands that better than Parker. Parker and I go way back and on todays show we reminisce about working and playing together, being captivated by the illusion of fame and of course WHY THE HELL HE QUIT DRAG BEFORE WINNING CANADAS DRAG RACE. God dammnit. Anyway, its a good one! check it out! For information about Parkers brand new fragrance line check out www.heimgoods.ca and @heimgoods on insta.

THERE ARE DRAG PERFORMERS IN CANADA WHO WERE STARS LONG BEFORE RUPAULS DRAG RACE HONEY. Carlota embodies what it means to be a star. She commands a room whether there is one person or one thousand, she knows what she's doing on stage. She has managed to stay relevant for DECADES and stays in touch with the up and coming legendary children to keep her on her toes. I feel so privileged to be able to call her a friend and share this time with her...and you! Carlotta is a prime of example of what successfully living your dreams can look like if you let go of the obsession with fame and fortune. There are a million ways to be a star.

Ok, I know I say this a lot but I literally could have talked to Jared for hours. We have so many stories, so much history. We meet as teenagers and became inseparable as we dove head first into nightlife and life in the big city. Jared was my first real gay best friend and he was my partner in crime has I chased my dreams. We've had some amazing experiences together and HE IS ALSO A HUGE BRITNEY FAN. Jared recently started a business called Pop Queen Cardio that is inspired by his love for pop music and the divas he loves. It's interesting because Jared is quite modest when it comes to chatting about spirituality but I find his approach to life really inspiring. The way his passions have influenced his career is the perfect example of manifesting a life you love without trying to manifest anything. JUST GET OFF YOUR ASS AND FOLLOW YOUR GOD DAMN PASSION.

Omg, I am finally doing a Britney episode! I've been wanting to do one since I started the show and now seems like the perfect time since the release of "Framing Britney Spears". Y'all know I love Brit Brit. I have been passionate about her for years and the recent conversations in the media about toxic tabloid culture and how problematic our consumption of all news Britney related has reignited my fire. My guest today is Kody Christiansen. I met him in LA YEARS ago when we were both living in Hollywood and chasing that fame honey. I talk to Kody about his experience in the media as the first celebrated Britney drag impersonator (he was on Tyra, this is before Drag Race y'all - even though Ru Paul did book him in NYC and invited him on the show), acting as Britney's body double in NYC and HAVING DRINKS WITH HER DAD JAMIE SPEARS at Britney's former restaurant NYLA. We also talk about Kody's toxic journey with Hollywood, his famous ex boyfriends and how he found sobriety in NYC. Oh, and he has a great story about buying Justin Beiber lunch! THIS IS A GOOD ONE YALL.

As Oprah says, Louis Guarino CARRYS THE LIGHT HONEY! Louis and I used to live in the same building and one day in the elevator he introduced himself and I realized he was the nicest stranger I had ever met. I wanted to bring him on the show for a few reasons. Firstly, his confidence and openness to new people gave me the immediate impression that he had some connection to spirituality. Secondly, he's Christian and I think he's a great example of what a good, nice, friendly Christian can be. And finally, he's a Kanye West fan and I have been DYING to talk to a Kanye fan to see what they think about his Sunday Service antics. Kanye is such a great example of a celebrity using their platform to spread a spiritual and religious message. Where as I found spiritual inspiration from celebrities who never uttered a word about God, Kanye is shamelessly talking about his devotion for Jesus and I wonder what kind of affect that has on his fans. Also, Louis is a black, straight guy and we chat about homophobia in the black community and how he overcame stereotypes to become open minding and accepting. ALSO LOUIS IS SINGLE LADIES SO IF YOU LIKE WHAT YOU SEE/HEAR HOLLA.

The boys from The Spiritual Gayz are here!!!! I'm so happy I got to chat with Brandon and Angel from their home in sunny LA about their popular podcast and all the ways they fill their lives with spirituality. They are tarot readers, astrologers, healers etc... you know the deal! They are coming on the show at an interesting time because a lot of the conversations I've had recently in regards to the new age community have been rather critical, which I think is very valuable. I also think its important to stay connected to people who continue to have a positive relationship with new age concepts and tools without it turning toxic. It was great asking Angel and Brandon questions about the commercialization of spirituality, conspiracy theories and their advice to have a healthy relationship with this side of spirituality. I ask them what it means to be a healer and how pop culture and social media can influence peoples spiritual growth. It was a really fun chat! I wish I lived in the same city as them so we could kiki irl!
The best part of having the podcast (apart from the amazing conversations) is meeting new people and expanding my network with folks who share my passion with spirituality.

Omg this conversation stayed with me for DAYS! You guys know that I love celebrities and believe they've been a conduit for my spirituality which is why I was so excited to talk to my friend Dan Nordstrom about his connection to Courtney Love and how it has influenced his life. Like me, Dan was drawn to Courtney because of her unapologetic presence in pop culture. She gave us permission to be who we were and do it shamelessly. The downside to having Courtney as an idol of course was her excessive and obvious journey with addiction. We talk about how this affected our own relationship with drugs and what it means to have such a self destructive idol. My favorite part of his conversation is how Dan opens up about how he was ARRESTED AT AN AIRPORT WITH MILLIONS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF METH AND HAD TO GO TO JAIL FOR 5 YEARS. He tells me how a group of trans women in prison kept him save and how he called his brother everyday when Britney Spears Blackout album was released just so he could hear her say IT'S BRITNEY B***H. Eventually Dan does get to meet Courtney and we talk about how the face to face meeting affected him. This is such an amazing story of self discovery and I know you'll all love it!!!

THIS IS A JANN ARDEN STAN EPISODE.
Ok, this is a little break from the spiritual specific conversations (EVEN THOUGH THE RELATIONSHIP YOU HAVE WITH YOUR FAVOURITE ARTISTS IS SPIRITUAL IN MY OPINION).
Today I am talking to drag perform Dust about all things Jann Arden. We connected over social media recently about our shared love for the Canadian Icon and took a FULL HOUR to dive deep into why we love her, our personal stories meeting her and her brand new show. Anyone who knows me knows I love Jann Arden and I feel so lucky to be able to share my joy and passion with Dust and all of you!!

This is a great conversation exploring the differences between profound spiritual/transcendental experiences and delusion and mental health crisis's. Shawn Lucas is the manager of Spiritual Care at CAMH here in Toronto and has been at the forefront of these types of conversations for years. Many people who suffer from mental health have profound experiences that they describe as spiritual or transcendental but its not always clear if these experiences are helpful or not. It's Shawn's job to help them navigate through these and asses the best action forward. I found it fascinating to hear about the difference between transcendental experiences and delusion and hear Shawn's take on the ways our current health care system can incorporate spirituality into the way we help people. And of course, we also discuss the commercialization of spirituality and the problem with weekend retreats centered around sacred planet medicine ceremonies that whether or not they are properly equipped to support people before, after and during such intense experiences. This is a good one!
If you or someone you know is struggling and would like to connect with Shawn directly you can find him HERE.

This week I am talking to the author of Bridging Science and Spirit, Nisha Manek. Nisha is a medical doctor who has been fascinated by the ways our spirit can affect our overall health and well being. In her book she dives deep into the work of William A Tiller, a scientist who has dedicated his life and career to exploring evidence of how subtle energies affect physical reality aka MANIFESTATION. It was so fun talking to Nisha because she is naturally curious and optimistic about the ways we can incorporate spirituality into everyday life and current health care systems. This is a great episode for anyone interested in hearing about links between science and spirituality.
It's important I mention that any conversations I have on the show in regards to how spirituality can affect your health, wellness and life in general is not advice but reflections and stories of peoples personal experiences. It's important to take everything with a grain of salt. This is a conversation based on curiosity and certain scientific experiments completed by Nisha and William A Tiller. It does not offer a solution or concrete answer to major health issues or pretend to prove anything other than the work presented in Nisha's book. Please enjoy the conversation and stay critical!

I love this episode! It's an important conversation and perfect for anyone who may be feeling conflicted about their spirituality and the people, communities and concepts that make it up.
One of the unexpected perks of starting the show has been connecting with people online and expanding my network of spiritual curious folks from all walks of life. My guest this week is one of those people! A while back I interviewed Mathew Remiski from the podcast Conspirituality in which we discussed the downside of New Age devotion. It was a really popular episode and Jessica reached out to me and we exchanged stories of our experience with things like the Law Of Attraction. Like me, Jessica spent a lot of time deeply committed to modern spirituality and practices like tarot, mediumship, channeling and reiki. And just like me she has experienced disappointment when all of the things the books, workshops and gurus promised didn't come to fruition.
In the episode we discuss how incredibly destabilizing it is to have your faith shattered when you realize how easy it is to be taken advantage of in these communities. Jessica opens up about what drew her to the new age community to begin with and how it affected her life when she dove in head first and why she ultimately decided to move in a new direction. We talk about the warning signs that are easy to ignore and the final straw that made her feel like maybe things weren't as they appeared. You'll love this talk!

ATTENTION ACTORS!!! THIS ONE IS FOR YOU!!! This was a FUN one. I am talking to my former acting teacher Bill Marchant about his perception of me when he met me almost 15 years ago when I was fresh to Vancouver and determined to be a star. According to him, I was one of the first people who was so open and shameless about my desire for fame and it was a turning point for both us. For me, it was the first time I attempted to put that ambition into the parameters of a discipled craft. I had to put my money where my mouth was. And for him it was a glimpse into what was coming with age of social media and instant celebrity. We reminisce about our time together and how transformative acting classes can be and how my time at Vancouver Film School marked the start of my life in Vancouver. We talk about how the desire for fame can affect your artistic journey and what it takes to from acting student to working actor and the spiritual quality of expressing yourself and honoring your dreams! Bill is another great example of exuding spirituality without trying to be spiritual. What a f*g blessing to be able to cross paths with him!!

Oh boy this was a good one! For anyone who's been apart of Canadian nightlife- you will love this conversation with one of the nations most celebrated female DJ's Maren Hancock aka Betti Forde. Not only has she dominated dancefloors for more than a decade she also toured the world with her band Stink Mitt and is now officially a MOTHER FUCKEN DOCTOR!!!! It's no secret that nightlife has been hugely influential to me and it was I was so excited to take a walk down memory lane with Betti. She was the first DJ to play my song at the club, the first person to put me on guestlist, the first person I met who had made nightlife a full time job. Our conversation ended up being so much more than I expected. She opened up about her childhood and how a witch saved her from a teenage bully, how she accidentally became a DJ, the impact of a small, iconic queer club called LICK and the backstory to one of the biggest parties ever in Vancouver: Staked Tuesdays at Celebrities. We also take a look at the impact superstars like Courtney Love and the Spice Girls have on feminism, we compare Britney and Princess Diana's relationship with the media and fame in general and discuss whether or not its possible to become a global superstar and maintain a potent message. Maren also tells me something about Marilyn Monroe that really shocked me! One of my fav questions I asked her was the relationship between a hedonistic lifestyle and being a creative powerhouse. WHAT A BLESSING TO KNOW A ROCK STAR LIKE HER.

Today I am taking a closer look at manifesting with celebrated psychic Natasha Rosewood. It wasn't very long ago that I had committed myself completely to the idea that I could create any life I wanted simply by thinking about it. Long story short, things didn't work out and I've had to reframe my beliefs about what manifesting and the law of attraction mean to me now. Contrary to what modern spirituality tells us there are a lot of conditions that are beyond our control and if you aren't living the life of your dreams, whatever that means, it isn't because you've done something wrong. Other factors like mental health will greatly impact a persons ability to "think rich" or "live from a place of gratitude". I also ask Natasha about her experience working as a professional psychic and what get her thoughts on what to do when your intuition points you in dangerous directions.

No one knows more intimately the journey from chaotic club kid to celebrated artist than Quanah Style. In my quest to uncover unconventional means to spirituality and self actualization I am so lucky to be able to look back and revisit people, places and things that have shaped the man I am today. Quanah is one of those people. We orbited each other for many years in the Vancouver club scene while we both claimed our stake on local fame and as my life veered off in another direction it has been so wild watching her push forward and thrive. She is a hard person to accurately describe because she's a fusion of so much potent energy: party girl, activist, performer, social media star and a prime example of living authentically, channelling creativity and using everything she's got to create a life she loves. THANK GODDESS FOR THIS WOMAN!!!!!

In this episode I chat with ND Paul Theriault about the realities of practicing naturopathic medicine in the modern world. How does it work? Is it effective? Why would someone choose the natural route over western medicine and all the technological and scientific advancements we've made. Paul is obviously used to critical line of questioning and he offers some great insight into why Naturopathy has been cast aside by the mainstream, insight into the current pandemic through the lens of Natural Medicine and how to tackle life threatening illness.

It was so great talking to him about the spiritual components to reality tv, how he manifested his big brother experience, the gamble people take when signing up to filmed and THE FUTURE OF REALITY TV WITH ALL THESE PESKY INFLIUENCERS TAKING UP SO MUCH GOD DAMN SPACE. This was one of my favorite conversations I've ever had on the podcast. It all started when Adele lost a bunch of weight and images of her dramatic weight loss were popping up online. Like most people, I was taken a back and when I saw Lauren's thoughts on fat icons and their narrative in pop culture I KNEW I had to have her on. Lauren and I go way back to the days of gay dance parties in East Van where she killed it as a hyper queen and I was rolling around in glitter and MONEY HONEY! Check it out!

I'm talking to Matthew Remski from the podcast Conspirituality about the problematic nature of modern day spirituality, self help guru's, the commodification of wellness and how these ideas bleed into conspiracy theories like QAnon. Omg you guys, my guest today started doing Ayahuasca when he was FIVE YEARS OLD!!! I met him a few months ago at my first Aya ceremony and was instantly interested in hearing more about his story. His Dad is a Shaman and he grew up around ceremonies. It was so great picking his brain about what he's seen over the years. We chat about the way people turn to these experiences for enlightenment and healing, seeking god and transformation and how all of the knowledge you get from the plants you can get without the plants too. Not only that, there is such thing as TOO MUCH "HEALING", at some point you need to accept your wounds, your imperfections and go out into the world...

We got a real witch this week hennies! This is The Craft meets Mean Girls meets The Long Island Medium, okurrrrr. Odin is a great friend of mine and has always had a refreshing take on spirituality. He doesn't shy away from the darker topics (you've been warned) but also calling out toxic positivity and the tendency of the spiritual community to focus solely on love and light without acknowledging the realities of being human. He believes peoples path to spirituality is unique and tailored to them. Be it till you see it!

EAST VAN ROYALTY COMING THROUGH. I remember the first time I went to the Cobalt like it was yesterday. The parties, the drag, the music, the venue, it was all so different then the usual Davie Street dance bars and it's arrival sent shock waves through the community. It was so fun talking to Peach about what it was like back then, bringing a brand new experience eto the community, the drama with other promoters, the ripple affect it had on the way queers partied and performed. IT MADE ME WANNA BE DRUNK AND DANCE TO NICKI MINAJ THATS FOR SURE.

I've mentioned this on the show before but, I used to believe that because I was openly gay and shameless about my desire for fame that I was unique. I really thought I was the only gay boy in the world who thought they were born to be a star. Through the club scene and eventually sobriety I discovered that the exact opposite is true: most gay boys I know have grandiose dreams and a lot of them pursue validation through extrenal means. On this episode I talk with my friend Luke about his journey growing up and which divas helped him find his light!

OK, I know I've said this a few times but this is one of my favorite conversations I've had so far while doing this podcast and by far my fav out of the Canada's Drag Race queens. Talking to Jimbo was kinda like talking to my teenage self. This was also a great example of talking about spirituality without talking about spirituality. Loved it!
