Recognizing the disorder within our culture is the initial step toward rectifying the missteps, often subtle, within our individual lives. Dr. Andrew Swafford is a Professor of Theology at Benedictine College in Atchison, KS. Together with Dr. Marcellino D’Ambrosio, he is co-author of What We Believe: The Beauty of the Catholic Faith and co-host of Ascension’s video series under the same title, filmed at 30 holy sites in Rome. Dr. Swafford is the general editor of, and a contributor to, Ascension’s best-selling Great Adventure Catholic Bible. He and his wife, Sarah, recently wrote Gift and Grit: How Heroic Virtue Can Change Your Life and Relationships. Among Dr. Swafford’s other publications are Ascension’s Bible studies on Romans and Hebrews as well as various books on Pope John Paul II and the moral and spiritual life. Fr. John Bayer, O. Cist. was born in Texas in 1984. He entered Our Lady of Dallas in August, 2007. He made his first temporary vows on August 20, 2008, and he made his solemn profession on August 19, 2012. He was ordained priest on August 10, 2013. He is Form Master for Class 2025 and he teaches English Lab, Latin and Theology at Cistercian Preparatory School. He is also an adjunct professor of theology at the University of Dallas. Fr. Jarrett Schaub is a devout Catholic convert, husband, father, and third generation luthier hand-crafting custom acoustic guitars in Evergreen, Colorado. Jarrett grew up in a large family of musicians, a heritage which began with his grandfather Reid Schaub—a talented guitarist who played for Buddy Holly during his college years in Lubbock, Texas. Reid later joined The Leon River Stump Jumpers before creating his own family band, which included his four children. The youngest, Jarrett’s father Roland, went on to lead a touring band in the 90's, and he's still playing venues in Texas today. Jarrett spent his childhood surrounded by guitars and live music, and by age 14 had mastered the guitar by playing along to his father’s cassette tape recordings. He eventually found himself on stage as well, touring as Jarrett Schaub and the Vagabonds for several years throughout Texas. He stepped away in 2012 to focus on his growing family. Fr. David Abernethy was born in Johnstown PA and is a Father of The Oratory of Saint Philip Neri in Pittsburgh. Father David converted to Catholicism as an undergraduate at the University of Pittsburgh, where he earned his Bachelors Degree. He also holds Masters Degrees in Sacred Theology and Divinity and has spent many years as a priest studying clinical counseling and Psychoanalysis at the Pittsburgh Psychoanalytic Center where he is an academic candidate. In 1987 the Philokalia was given to Father David as a gift; this gift sparked a love for the Desert Fathers and Eastern Spirituality that Father David has developed for over thirty years. He has a particular interest in the works of Saint John Cassian, Saint John Climacus and Saint Isaac the Syrian. Father David was ordained to the Priesthood 1994.
