When we face difficult decisions in life, God promises to guide us through life as we seek Him with prayers for wisdom and discernment. But when we pray these prayers, there are a few things that we must understand. The process as we pray is just as much of God's answer as the choice He leads us to make. Prayers for discernment can and should ultimately lead us to intimacy with God Himself.
Give, forgive and deliver: these are the personal petitions -- the personal “askings” -- that Jesus wants us to focus on in our daily interaction with God. Why? Because, bottom line, they deal with our physical, relational, and spiritual well-being. We ASK, then, because we TRUST that God has our best interests at heart. So, may we simply seek God first and trust that God will take care of the rest as we live the God-adventure.

There has been confusion over time on the theology of grace and works. Though on the surface, writers like Paul and James may seem to be stating contradiction doctrine, they really are talking about different things. James is simply saying that true faith is expressed through works. So the question we need to ask ourselves is whether or not we are putting our faith into action? Are we living the lives of obedience we want to live? Because faith without works is dead, and God needs His church to be ALIVE!

Every disciple of Jesus can’t help but live a life of yes to the One who saved them, which may take them here, there, and everywhere so to speak. The initial "yes" is always the hardest because we may have never experienced God's care and provision due to the fact that we have always found our security in what we could accomplish or accumulate. After the initial yes, the subsequent "yes's" become a little easier because as we say yes our faith and trust in God continues to grow. The reality is that, as we live a life of yes, God will ask us to move to another place, to another job, to another friend group, etc. so that God can use us in that situation to expand God’s kingdom, and we will be forced to wrestle with whether to say yes again to the One who saved us as we fight off feelings of comfort and fear. So, who wants to live a life of yes to God no matter what? Mark 10:17-22; John 3:1-5; Matthew 4:19, 28:18-20

God has called His people to be agents of hope in this dark and broken world. We are called to usher in God's kingdom on earth by showing this world who our God is and by allowing them to experience His love through us as vessels of hope. But, how often do we ever actually notice people? Do we live with eyes to see those who are hurting and in need of this hope, or are we too busy to even see it? In our relationships, do we see people's behaviors or their battle? God needs his church to be people with eyes to see.

As Americans, we are incredibly blessed to live in a nation that allows us freedoms most of the world is not afforded. As Christians, we have received the greatest gift of all through the work of the cross - spiritual freedom. As American Christians, we must be careful that we understand that as great as our American freedoms are, it can never offer what only Jesus can; eternal freedom from our sin. God has called His church to invite all people into this saving grace as we proclaim the freedom available through Jesus Christ. The question is - are we fighting more for our American freedoms than for lost people to find true freedom through their loving savior?

Maybe in the midst of our suffering, our focus should be on deepening our relationship with Jesus by remaining in him and by become more dependent on him, which necessarily enables us to continue expanding God’s kingdom as we draw people to God in our suffering. Many people share the same visions of what Heaven will be like and yet most of what we picture is not actually biblical. Though we can't know exactly what eternity will be like, God doesn't leave us without some clarity. Revelation is not a mystery map to be solved. This letter reveals to us how God has always had a plan and purpose for everything- for his creation to live in the tree of life. It all comes full circle. From Genesis to Revelation, God is working one great, redemptive plan and it is a plan we can trust and find our hope in. But God won’t just complete his plan in the end, he sent Jesus so that we can begin to experience this life right now, today.

What is first in our lives, the cultural symbols of prosperity or spiritual renewal that leads to fulfillment?
Laodicea is one of the seven churches in the book of Revelation. Jesus has something to say to each church. To the church in Laodicea, which Jesus characterizes as a lukewarm church that prides itself on wealth and fine clothes, the message is to look inside not outside. Jesus sees us as we really are spiritually and this church needs a transformation. Jesus call them to turn from the culture of wealth and find their lives in Him. Jesus says He stands at the door and waits for them to invite him in to be made new!

God is the God who eliminates the chaos in our lives. We can live peacefully instead of chaotically. The question is: Do we want our “chaos” to end? If we do, then we must submit to God, follow God's ways, and allow God to transform us as we pursue training through spiritual disciplines to become more like Jesus Christ.

We are living in some very challenging cultural times where truth is being deconstructed, where views on gender, identity and relationships are being turned upside down, and where violence is being used to squash and to cancel opposing values and beliefs. In these chaotic and disturbing times, we may be tempted to cave or to rationalize away certain biblical truths that go against new cultural norms or to build walls of “truth” to protect ourselves from any outside or unchristian influence. When we build walls, we can forget that we are to love people into God’s kingdom by giving them the grace and space to allow God’s truth to transform and to free them.
May we never let the fear of compromising and conforming to ungodly cultural values and practices cause us to wall up inside this church and suck the love of Christ out of us.

The "hero" of God's story – Jesus Christ – took a beating for us, was ripped and torn apart for us, was broken and crushed for us, and died for us so that (i) we may have eternal life, (ii) we may live in right relationship with God and with our brothers and sisters in Christ forever, and (iii) we may experience the blessings of living God’s way and in God’s kingdom.

We remember the day Jesus willingly suffered and died by crucifixion as the ultimate sacrifice for our sins.
From that time on Jesus began to explain to his disciples that he must go to Jerusalem and suffer many things at the hands of the elders, the chief priests and the teachers of the law, and that he must be killed and on the third day be raised to life.
Peter took him aside and began to rebuke him. “Never, Lord!” he said. “This shall never happen to you!”

Jesus makes it possible for us to remain in covenant relationship with God by enabling us to say "no to sin and yes to God in all things" as God uses us to bring healing and restoration to the people of this world.

The Isralites returned to Jerusalem hanging onto hope in God's promise of a new covenant - one where He would give them new hearts and minds that would desire His law. But though this hope brought them back, they attempted to achieve the new covenant in their efforts and works. It isn't until Jesus comes that the new covenant is offered - one that offers transformation by the Spirit. This is the hope we live in today.

As God's people find themselves in exile, in a land that is not their home, God calls them to the same message He had all along...to be in the world but not of the world.
God sent the people into exile into a land that is not their home. While they are there, God calls them to live among the people, for the people. God called them to be in the world but not of the world. The same call is upon us today as we, too, are living in a land that is not our home. Our call as God's people is to LIVE the way God calls us to live so that others will see God through us. God doesn't ask us to fight His battles here on earth, but to embody the God Way and allow Him to shine through us.

Judges - Gideon and a victory from God! God delivers and turns hearts to Him.
God would send a deliverer called a Judge to defeat the enemy and return to God. After entering the promised land in the book of Joshua another generation grows up and turns away from God. They had lost faith in God and turned to idols. God allowed foreign armies to oppress them and finally they would cry for help. Gideon was the judge that delivered them from the Midianites and turned their hearts to God.

God has always required obedience. He makes promises of IF, THEN. IF His people....., THEN He will.....But obedience is not a works based act, rather it is an outpouring of our love and trust for God. God's plan has always been to use His people to show the rest of the world who He is. In order to do this, we must be people of total, immediate, obedience in order to not fall into our own ways, our own fears, or our own justification. Because God always has our best interest at heart, we can always trust that obedience to His voice will produce freedom and intimacy.

God wants to covenant with us to restore God's kingdom on earth. We can play our role by loving God, loving our neighbor and teaching others to do the same.

God is the God who hears and responds to the "cry". God is looking for a "body" to do the same thing.
Will you be that "body"?
Failure – we don’t like it; we don’t want it; we go to great lengths in trying to hide it, to ignore it, or to rationalize it.
In doing so, we resist or miss the opportunity to be conformed to God’s image in the midst of such failure or setback.
God used Moses’ failure to reshape him being a self-dependent, self-controlled man. He also used him to be a God-dependent, God-controlled man, who God could be use to expand God's kingdom on earth.
How did God accomplish such reshaping? By signing Moses up for a master’s degree in character development, which degree consisted of two primary courses:
(i) advanced obscurity; and
(ii) remedial waiting.
Are you willing "to wait in obscurity" for God to do God's work in you?

There was no human initiative whatsoever in Mary’s conception. Mary’s conception was a God-thing; it was God initiated – pure and simple. Thus, the Virgin Birth is a sign of God’s saving grace; a sign that our salvation is by God’s grace alone – not by anything that we do.
Do you want to live a “Holy Communion life” where we are broken and poured out for the sake of others so that they – our son, daughter, etc. -- can experience and live with God’s hope, peace, love and joy now and forever?

Advent is meant to be a season that draws us into remembering Jesus' coming so that it will remind us to look forward to his coming again. We find ourselves living in the already, but not yet. And it is in this place that Jesus promises us his peace. But this only comes when we live with a single-minded devotion on God. During the Christmas season, we are distracted with so many things that draw our attention off of this posture of remembrance and expectation. Jacob lives a life of deception until it all catches up with him and he comes to the end of himself.
It is through wrestling with God that Jacob is given a new name - a new identity. Like Jacob, God is asking us to press into the wrestle as we seek to leave the old self behind and be transformed into our new life in Christ. The question is, will we choose to press into the wrestle?

God the "tester" is God the "provider". This story is not just about Abraham being found faithful, but it is also about God being found faithful to us always.

God begins the great salvation story with a call to a man named Abram. He is calling Abram to a place where a nation will be born and the gift of salvation is given. As we hear this call to Abram we realize he calls us by name, where we are to be blessed by Him with salvation and eternal life. We want to be people who know and live God’s Word/Truth because God’s Word/Truth sets us free from living the lies of the evil one. When we know and live God’s Word/Truth then -- as the apostle Paul says in Eph. 4:14-15 -- 14 Then we will no longer be immature like children. As sin ran rampant on the earth, God made the choice to purify His creation. While the whole world had become evil, God found favor in Noah. Noah was faithful to God in his day to day life and so God chose to use Noah and his family as a remnant to restart His original intent for creation. God is always looking for someone who is faithful that He can use to usher in restoration and redemption to this world. We, too, need to live as people who are faithful, blameless, and righteous so that God can use us to usher in His kingdom here on earth #HillChurchMcminville

Reconcile and Live! Oh, God, I have a confession to make. I have harbored bitterness in my heart. I have resented certain people and have not forgiven them in my heart. I need your help to forgive them, as you have forgiven me. I forgive “them” now. And, God, I just don’t want forgiveness, I want reconciliation of this particular relationship. I recognize that you created every person in your image that you have a great purpose for each of us. I ask you to help me see this person as you see them. Do you want to live in the "Tree of Life" or the "Tree of the Knowledge of Good and Evil"? Your answer will determine who decides what is in your best interests – God or You. Put differently, it is either choosing human autonomy and independence from God, thinking I know what is best for me, or it is choosing to seek God first and TRUST that God will take care of the rest, believing that God knows what it best for me. Living in the TKGE means that “we” are lord of our own lives; we follow our own way; we live in our own self-created kingdom. The TKGE way of living leads to “broken relationships” -- HELL. Living in the TOL means that God is Lord of our life; we follow God’s way, we live in God’s kingdom, and that way leads to living "right relationship" with God and with all other created things -- HEAVEN. #HillChurchMcminnville
God is the creator and originator of life. God created everything to live in right relationship with each other. God gave human beings the freedom to choose whether or not to live the way God intended us to live and to embrace our God-given purpose in God's story. How will you respond to God's invitation to partner with God to care for each other and our world? #HillChurchMcminnville
We are living as a generation of Christians who are biblically illiterate. God calls us to KNOW His Story in order that we may abide in it and invite others to join with us. Summary: We as God's people must embrace the reality that our God is a God of crazy. As we read the biblical narrative we see that God moves and acts in ways that are radical, counter cultural, and miraculous. In order to be prepared for what God is going to call His people to, we have to be willing to embrace the crazy and not remain in the comfortable and explainable. #HillChurchMcminnville
Prayer is not only communion with God; it is also confrontation with the enemy. When Jesus was on the earth, Jesus came face-to-face with the devil when Jesus was tempted in the wilderness, and every time the devil tried to tempt Him, Jesus responded with a reference from the Word of God, which caused the devil to move on. #HillChurchMcminnville
"Whatever" we do every word and every action is to be done in Jesus name, and with thanksgiving. It is not just about what we don't do; it is about how we go about living every second of every day. Every moment is a gift, every breath is a gift, everything we eat and drink is a gift. In a sense, all of life is a sacrament, a sacred gift from God. Have you ever asked yourself, "Do I really know Jesus?" It is really easy as Christians to be influenced by so many outside factors and end up settling for an altered understanding of Jesus and never truly come to know him in fullness and intimacy. We sometimes think we know what grace is. Maybe we can define it and explain it to others what it means. But it's in our stories where we tell of the experiences we've had with grace. And it's in these stories where we discover that grace is more than we thought; it's where we learn that Grace is Greater! - Hebrews 12:15
