Error Machine Podcast: Recent Episodes

Error Machine

The Error Machine Podcast is comprised of Dustin Thomas and Luke Roberts, two mid-30s nobodies who have been best friends since high school. Occasionally joined by friends Chris Cramer and Chris Schram, Dustin and Luke discuss the latest in video games and sometimes derail into talks about professional wrestling, old nu-metal bands from the early 2000s, and MST3K, among other things.

You read that title right, this is the final episode of the Error Machine Podcast, at least until we unretire like Ric Flair.

We've had a lot of fun doing this podcast over the last 6 years, and truly appreciate everyone who has ever taken the time to listen to it. The first 25 minutes or so is us discussing the decision to end the show, and the next four hours is some of our best and most favorite clips from throughout the years, as well as marathons of our Error Machine Describes and Is It A Switch Game segments.

This isn't goodbye, it's Smell Ya Later. Luke and Dustin intend to provide content for the YouTube channel on occasion, which you can find at youtube.com/errormachine.

We love you all!

Much like the Sega Channel retrospective, it's time for us to finally dedicate an entire episode to a game that seemingly comes up every episode: Resident Evil 4.

It's a game that is revered as one of the best of all time, and rates very highly with everyone at Error Machine. We go into its troubled history, the changes it brought to the series, the plot, the bosses, and just about everything that you can think of. Dustin also gets really sappy towards the end.

Dustin and Luke are absolutely giddy to bring you this episode. If you've listened to the podcast for any length of time, you may have heard the boys talking about the Sega Channel. Well, they're finally giving the Sega Channel it's due and giving it its own full-length episode. They cover everything about the service, including what it was, how it worked, and what it did for gaming as a whole. Then they spend a good 45 minutes just reminiscing about some of their favorite Sega Genesis games. We hope you enjoy listening as much as we enjoyed recording.

Due to a very hectic week for all the guys, only Dustin and Luke appear on this week's episode, and they're not even appearing together. Dustin kicks the show off my talking about the E3 press conferences of Bethesda and Microsoft, then Luke chimes in about Sony and Nintendo, and then Dustin returns to give his own opinions about Sony and Nintendo.

We'll be back with a regular episode next week, but in the meantime, enjoy this one!

Merry Christmas everyone. Luke, Chris, and I certainly hope that all of you are enjoying your holidays. And what better way to celebrate than by sitting back and listening to the three of us recount some of our fondest memories of the cherished holiday.

We talk about some of our favorite presents from the past, the joys of seeing our families open their gifts, as well as our favorite Christmas movies. It's guaranteed to be the best half hour of your Christmas season.

It's a little later than normal, but what topic would be worth waiting for more than the PlayStation? We conclude our discussion of the classic system but talking about how it opened up the west to receive a ton of RPGs like Legend of Dragoon and Suikoden II, how Silent Hill brought a different type of survival horror to the table, the myriad fantastic franchises that began on the system, some of the hardware flaws, and a bunch of hidden gems.

But before we do that, we of course have to update you on Luke's Amiibo hunting, Chris singing the praises of Amazon, and Dustin talks about one of the most underrated and amazing moments ever in gaming: the first time you see Mario do a front flip with the star power-up.

We also discuss the new releases like Guilty Gear Xrd - SIGN -, and that's about it. We describe what the game Kalimba is, apparently it's a Jumanji type game where you play as pro wrestler Kamala. Sounds pretty awesome.

There was so much to talk about in this episode that we actually have to split the discussion topic into two episodes. It was the 20th anniversary of the original PlayStation, and we wind up talking for a good 45 minutes about the console without even scratching the surface.

We share some of our favorite memories and games, as well as going over a bit of the history of how the consoles came to be. We cover Final Fantasy VII/VIII/IX and Tactics, the Resident Evil Trilogy, Metal Gear Solid, Twisted Metal, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater, and so many more. That discussion begins around the 50-minute mark. Be sure to come back next week for part 2.

Luke also shares a story about how he basically waterboarded his 6 year old daughter in the bathroom of a Taco Bell, Chris hates eBay, we discuss the rumored discontinuation of certain Amiibo, the unfortunate passing of gaming icon Ralph Baer, as well as a brief discussion about Diamond Dallas Page and the best parts of the movie Commando.

This week it's a two man team as Chris has a wife and child whose heads are exploding with vomit. So Luke and I bring an aimless podcast where Luke talks about his family getting into a fight at Wal Mart on Thanksgiving, and Dustin gives some Black Friday stories.

Games of the Week Dustin - Secret of Mana Luke - Dillon's Rolling Western

As always we cover the new releases this week like Secret Ponchos, The Crew, Captain Toad, and Luke describes GetClose: A game for RIVALS.

News topics this week include Xbox hands down winning the Black Friday battle, the two-cannon Samus Amiibo selling for over two-grand, the ridiculous Samsung $120,000 television, and a very fiery discussion about how poorly Ubisoft has handled Assassin's Creed Unity. All that and more in this episode of the Error Machine Podcast.

In case you haven't heard, the Wii U version of Super Smash Bros. came out, and it's all Chris and Luke care to talk about. When Dustin is able to finally get them to talk about other things, they discuss topics and games like Infamous: Second Son, Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare, Borderlands: The Pre Sequel.

We also tackle the new releases (maybe you've heard of a little game called Super Smash Bros?) As well as Luke telling us what the game Alphadia Genesis is about. Turns out it's a Tyler Perry game where Madea goes back into the time of Genesis.

We also talk about things like the high going price for a Smash Bros. Gamecube adapter, the double cannon Samus Amiibo, and in our discussion time this week, we recap WWE Survivor Series.

All this and some listener questions.

We are all over the board this week. Luke almost gets into two fights, one with a human and one with a raccoon. Chris is Xbone-less, and Dustin HATES Proteus.

Games of the week this week include Diablo 3, GTA San Andreas HD, Bayonetta, Mega Man X3, and Mega Man 6.

We also enter the season where every videogame is getting released, and we only covered a fraction of all the games that came out this week.

Did you hear that Sonic Boom and Assassin's Creed Unity are glitchy nightmares? We talk about that, as well as the PS4 turning one, and the fact that Shigeru Miyamoto has spent 61 years of his life without a PS4.

We end it by discussing some of the Black Friday deals, as well as our thoughts on the "holiday" and the few crazy instances where we've stood in line overnight for videogames.

With Christopher unable to record, and Dustin and Luke being short on time this week, they decided to try something new. It's not quite a minisode, but it's similar. Both of them have recently removed games from their backlog, with Dustin playing The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past, and Luke playing The Last of Us. Luke, being a big advocate of A Link to the Past, interviews Dustin about his thoughts on the game, and Dustin likewise does the same for Luke for The Last of Us.

Maybe you guys missed it, but a fairly big game came out this week. That game is called Woah Dave! Just kidding (although that is real game that was released). We are, of course, talking about Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare. This week we use our topic discussion time to discuss the series. Is it overhyped? Is it losing its luster? What's our favorite in the series? We also discuss why it shouldn't be played by children. Also, Dustin discusses his experience working the GameStop midnight release for the game.

A show two weeks in a row? The stars must have aligned just right. Halloween is upon us, so the guys took it upon themselves to talk about games (and movies, and other things) that remind them of the candy obsessed holiday. There's talk of some survival horror games, and some cult classics like Zombies Ate My Neighbors and Alan Wake.

Dustin talks about his (somewhat) disappointment with Borderlands: The Pre-Sequel, Luke's shop vac adventures, and Chris' record-SHATtering bathroom escapades. They also tackle some new releases, talk about the Xbox One price drop, and discuss the finished version of the Nintendo Amiibos. And in our new segment, Luke tries to describe the game Lords of the Fallen with no prior knowledge of the game.

Also, Rob Zombie should stop making movies.

No clever titles this week, just the regular rundown of stories, games, new releases, and news. In this episode Dustin laments on the loss of his best friend, the guys discuss some Smash Bros. and Mario Kart related news, they talk about the dude that randomly found a $30,000 Magic card, and Luke inadvertently invents what may become a new segment where he takes a new release and describes what it's about with no knowledge of the game itself. After the break, the guys come back and do a retrospective on the Castlevania series.

Games of the Week Dustin - Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor Luke - Smash Bros. Chris - Smash Bros.

In this week's topic, we count down our top 5 gaming shames. We talk about games that are widely considered to be great classics, but we either haven't played or haven't finished. Which one of us has never played a Castlevania game? Which one never completed a Mega Man game? Who has a scathing hate for R-Type? You'll find out in this very episode.

We're participating in the Extra-Life.org 24-hour gaming marathon for the Children's Miracle Network on October 25th. We're only $75 from reaching our goal. Greetings everyone! This week the whole gang comes together to discuss, among other things, the ice bucket challenge, getting down with the sickness, some brief SummerSlam talk, and then we get into our games of the week.

Games of the Week: Dustin - Mario Golf: World Tour Chris - Battle Block Theatre Heather - Beautiful Katamari Luke - Phantom Breaker Battlegrounds

We then discuss a few new releases, and few news stories, and then get right into our topic this week. Here we discuss the bad apples of great franchises. Can these games be so bad that they ruin the series? Some of the games talked about are Resident Evil 6, Final Fantasy X-2, Sonic 06, Chrono Cross, and so on.

It's just Luke and Dustin bringing you the Error Machine goodness this week, and it's another episode without a real topic. The boys talk about games like Comix Zone, Rogue Legacy, Fez, etc, as well as talking at great length about the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles film and the new Hercules starring The Rock.

They also discuss a few news stories, like the rumor of a possible Resident Evil television series, and the tragic passing of Robin Williams, before going into some listener questions from Error Machine Podcast #1 fan, Dylan Knight.

Guys, this is a monumental episode for the Error Machine Podcast. Dustin and Luke were finally able to convince Chris to start a Twitter account! Anyway, this week is topic-less and question-less, so they spend entirely too much time talking about stuff like Birdemic: Shock and Terror, mixing Coke and coke, and Dustin finished Super Mario RPG. They cover the new releases, or lack thereof, and go over a bit of news, including GameStop's new trade prices, GameStop fingerprinting customers, the Resident Evil Remake Remaster, and more.

Games of the Week: Chris - Staying awake to take care of a child. Dustin - Kirby Triple Deluxe Luke - Rogue Legacy

The gang is all here! That's right, Chris has returned from giving birth! No topic discussion this week, as all three...scratch that...all FOUR of them have many stories to tell from the past couple of weeks.

Naturally, we get into some baby discussion, our favorite Weird Al songs, Dustin discusses his trip to Jamaica and how many times he was asked if he was a terrorist, Luke is really upset about the new female Thor, and we have a special guest for this week's episodes. There's also a very lengthy discussion and SPOILERS on The Last of Us.

Games of the Week: Dustin: Rayman Legends Chris: NES Remix Luke: The Last of Us

Chris can't make it again this week, but for good reason...he and his lovely wife finally had their baby (don't be fooled, Alex did most of the work)! Things will be much different for Christopher Craig Cramer in the coming years, so Luke and Dustin took it upon themselves to discuss the differences they've noticed in their gaming habits from childhood into adulthood. They talk about things like, duh, gaming with children, finding time to game while having adult responsibilities like going to work and having money but no time, and vice versa.

For the second week in a row, Chris is unable to join the gang (who does he think he is? An expecting father?). So it's up to Luke and Dustin to bring you your weekly allotted allowance of awesome gaming discussion. The Game of the Week for both men is Shovel Knight, and they discuss it at great length, needless to say, they both adore it. And since Shovel Knight is a downloadable title, this week's topic discussion is a top 5 list from both men on their favorite downloadable titles.

They also cover new releases, the Summer Games Done Quick event, how stupid the new EA-themed PS4 looks, John Cena being on the cover of WWE 2K15, summer camps, minor league baseball, and Jamaica. They also throw in a little bit of 80s action movie quotes.

Episode 18, guys. We're legal! Well, pretty much.

Anyway, this week there's no Chris because he may be popping out a baby soon, so Luke and Dustin decided to talk about such illuminating topics as debt collectors and Girl Scout meetings before talking about games.

Games of the Week Dustin - Grand Theft Auto V Luke - The Angry Video Game Nerd Adventures

They also discuss notable new releases (or lack thereof), some news, and then come back from the break to talk about the recent events going on at Capcom and talk about their favorite Capcom games and series before getting into questions, including one about time travel.

E3 happened, guys. So what better way to get your news pertaining to the biggest gaming show of the year than by listening to three guys that weren't even there? Answer, there isn't a better way, so you need to listen. Hear Dustin froth at the mouth for Yoshi's Wooly World, Chris jump for joy for Splatoon, and Luke's indifference for anything that didn't have the word 'Nintendo' attached to it.

Also, hear about Luke's adventures at Best Buy's Super Smash Bros. event, Chris' foul mouth, and Dustin working at a daycare. Serious gaming journalism!

Games of the Week: Dustin - Kirby's Return to Dream Land Chris - Mario Kart 8 Luke - Something with the word "Rainbow" in the title that I'm too lazy to go back and look at the title of.

Hopefully you guys have as much fun listening to this episode as they did recording it.
