Carla George

Do you struggle with pursuing your purpose? Is your purpose unclear? Are you a goal getter that faces obstacles, roadblocks or gets stuck sometimes? I get it and I’ve been there. Trying to please people or meet expectations (of others or your own) can cause you to become paralyzed on pursuing Your purpose because it not longer becomes about what you have been created to do but what you think others expect of you. So if you’re like me you’ve pursued a career that’s unsatisfying or a relationship that’s incompatible or you’ve lost your faith due to outside influences. It’s time to push past that!

Welcome to the Pushed Into Purpose Podcast, where your host Carla George will inspire you the Goal Getter to push beyond the fears, challenges and doubts that may arise from time to time and into a life God has purposed for you. Tune in every Monday for a new episode (because here Mondays are the new Fridays!)

Do you want to know what it takes to create a purpose led brand? Sisters Keyondra Lockett and Kimberly Lockett share their experience of transitioning from #1 Billboard Artist and Celebrity Stylist, respectively to now the owners of the clothing brand Jolie Noire. They share how representation was so important to them in fashion that it was the catalyst behind the brand.

The idea behind the brand/statement Jolie Noire, is that black is beautiful. Jolie Noire stands for Pretty Black in French. We are primed to think dark colors (specifically black) are negative and light colors are positive. In an effort to level the playing field, we're working to shape the minds of onlookers and change the meaning, emotions, and values associated with black. Color is something that doesn't come pre labeled, we label it... At Jolie Noire we choose to believe that black, like other colors, is beautiful!

Their leading scripture is:

I praise You because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; Your works are wonderful, I know that full well. -Psalm 139:14

One question that I get asked often is "Is it okay for Christians to profit from their purpose?" And the short answer is absolutely yes! But of course my challenge is convincing Christians to dispel the belief that Christians cannot be financially successful. In this episode I address 3 mindset blocks that are keeping Christian entrepreneurs from succeeding in their business and counteract that with 3 mindset changes you can use to help you flourish in business as a Christian entrepreneur.

First we set the stage with this mantra developed from the definition of 'purpose' and 'profit':

The reason why you do what you do is to have an advantageous gain to benefit the kingdom.

If you are ready to take your business to the next level apply to work with me in my Purpose to Profit: Business Deep Dive Strategy Program.

We are in SZN 2!! This season we are going beyond our povot to exploring how we can turn our purpose into profit. So last season we talked about how we can Pivot into Purpose which ended with the Pushed Into Purpose Summit that addressed how we pivot in our faith, relationship, careers, business and mindset. It was amazzzinng!!! If you missed it no worries it is still available by checking out the link below.

On this episode I give a brief summary about the summit and then answer the question...now what?? Now you've made that pivot we are in the season of executing and seeing exactly how our purpose can benefit the kingdom by benefiting others and ourselves.

Listen to how I do a case analysis on Jesus' last days on earth and how he carried out his purpose on purpose! When it is your time to execute do it with the right strategy and intentionality. Many times we just want to move ahead with no guidance and no strategy. And while yes this will get you going it won't really keep you going. So what is your action plan? I formed what I term 'Jesus' 10 part strategy' to help you move into your new season. Which steps will you implement right away?

I thought it was appropriate to do a rewind of this episode as we come to the end of the first quarter of 2021. Research shows that 80% of people quit their New Year's resolutions by mid February. I want to do a pulse check with you to ensure we are at the stage of achieving our goals versus planning our goals. I address 3 steps to ensure we are goal achievers:

  1. Create your purpose statement

  2. Take small steps in executing your goals

  3. Create boundaries around your goals

Continuing in our series of Pivot into Purpose, on this episode I am talking with Pastor Candice Lambe about how we can Pivot in our Prayer life when we get taken off track and blind sided. We make pivots in so many areas of our life without recognising that we can and need to make pivots in our prayer life.

This discussion was so good that this is a two part episode. Pastor Candice gives godly direction starting out with what prayer is, where to start on our prayer journey and how to go deeper in our prayer life. There is no conversation more important than the one you have with God.

Yes yes we know it's a whole new year BUT it's also a new year of life for me as I just celebrated my birthday AND it's a new year for my marriage as we also celebrated our 5th year anniversary. Celebrating these new seasons was different as we couldn't do what we initially planned and I felt bummed out. However, during that time I had to really think about what I was thinking about. So this episode is Pivot Into a New Year by pivoting your thinking.

There are many scriptures that deal with our thinking and mindset and we look at:

Romans 12:2

Philippians 4:8

Isaiah 55:8-9

2 Corinthians 10:5

We have made it to the last week of 2020!

And with that said I am sure you have already started seeing these 4 words 'End Your Year Strong'. But what does that really mean? On this episode I break down what it means to end your year strong outside of social and worldly expectations. We look to the scriptures as a guide to how we should define what strength is and how we can apply it to the journey we are currently on.

Also, join me for the 2021 Pivot into Purpose 7 Day Affirmation Challenge starting on January 1, 2021. We will spend the first week of 2021 affirming ourselves as we pivot into purpose and become intentional with setting the foundation for this new year we are about to embark on. We don't know what 2021 will bring, but we know we will grow through it and make an impact as we walk boldly in purpose.

Do you find yourself in a waiting season? Are you waiting for marriage, children, to lose weight, to get a job or for your circumstances to change? One thing we have learned in 2020 is how to navigate the spirit of waiting. On this episode Public Relations Strategist and creator of the Glambitious Brand, Lillie Mae walks us through her methods to help us win while we wait. She shares how she went through a very public waiting period by being casted on the Netflix show Love is Blind.

Waiting doesn't have to be hard and we don't have to dread it. There are benefits during our waiting season. Lillie Mae's methods include having moments of stillness and action, knowing the difference between stillness and boredom and finding peace through alignment. Lillie Mae sums up our waiting season as a time where everything falls into God's divine timing and at the end of the day He is the one directing this movie.

On this solo episode I read through Romans 12:4-8 and create the three commitments of purpose. I wanted to create these commitments so that this community are on the same page when we move forward in Purpose. These commitments provide a foundation and direction and overall keep us focused on this purpose path.

They are:

  1. I commit to know and believe I have something special to offer

  2. I commit to be a part of the great mission of growing the kingdom

  3. I commit to exercise my gifts well

Recently I read the book Harvard Business Review: Mental Toughness which is all about creating strategies that develop our brains capacity to rejig how people in high places handle stressful situations so they can operate at an optimum yet balanced high performance. God then revealed to me that the outcome of our situations lies in how we perceive and approach them. We are to become students of our situations and learn from them and not victims of our situations. I explore the story of Joseph and set out 3 lessons he taught us to become students of our situations.

As goal getters and women of purpose we constantly have ideas floating around our heads, so much so sometimes we never pursue any of them. Staying focused and on track can be very complicated and to be honest can get discouraging at times. There have been many ideas and projects I have started but have not completed simply because they were not in alignment with my purpose on this earth. On this episode I talk about 3 things podcasting taught me about pursuing new ideas:

  1. Will it bring me peace or stress

  2. Will it create a positive impact

  3. Will God approve

On many occasions someone has come to me to tell me they have not found their purpose yet. The last 3 episodes (including this one) I have dealt with how you can make strides to discovering your purpose. On this episode, I talk about discovering your purpose through serving others and how we often overlook this gift because we so often concentrate and lament over our problems that we miss the opportunity to use our gifts to help those who are truly in need.

I am actually using my book the Proverbs 31 Woman: More Than The Good Wife as a reference and if you have a copy of my book you can read along with me as I read chapter 11. I have also put the link below if you wish to purchase it.

What we think we may need more of is confidence, but in actual fact it is Godfidence. To me Godfidence is knowing your weakness is made perfect through the strength of God working in your life. Three ways in which we can exercise our Godfidence muscle are:

  1. Don’t underestimate what comes naturally to you and do more of that.

  2. Learn what you don't know

  3. Do more of what makes you uncomfortable

Annnddd we’re baack! It hasn’t been that long, two weeks to be exact, but long enough for me to miss you all. But I am glad I took that break to regroup, refocus and align my actions with bringing you not only good content but valuable content. On this episode I discuss how not all good things are God things. When we confuse the two we can exchange what we know with what we immediately see. What we know is God has ordered our steps and we need to follow and trust Him with our plans. What we immediately see is the satisfaction of success, the wins, the recognition. All these are are the idols we have created for ourselves along the road to success that can cause us to lose focus. In the book ‘Essentialism’ Greg McKeown puts it like this “Success can distract us from focusing on the essential things that produce success in the first place”

In this episode we look at the scripture Isaiah 37:1-20 and I challenge you to audit your ideas and every opportunity that comes your way. Is this shaped by human hands and fails to align with the purpose of God, unable to bring value and create change within the human hearts and souls or is this opportunity so divine that all of the earth will know that God alone odained it.

Lack of support can have an adverse affect on how you pursue your goals and purpose. If we are honest when we don't receive support from those who we consider friends or from those in our family it can play on our minds and our overall confidence leaving us thinking 'if they won't support me then why would anyone else?'

In this episode I address the real reason for lack of support and how we can change how we deal with it. I remove the negative undertones that come with this subject and give you three helpful methods to help you overcome not receiving the support you feel you should be getting. They include:

  1. Believe in your gift and the giver

  2. Set realistic expectations

  3. Examine the heart of your tribe

The second commandment given by Jesus is "And you shall love your neighbor as yourself". So my question to you is how are you loving yourself? On this episode I talk about the reasons why we find it difficult to love ourselves at our best and how it's important to address that so we can learn to love ourselves differently. There's a saying that says "If you don't heal what hurt you, you will bleed on people who did not cut you". When we don't seek healing it impacts how we can truly love others...our neighbors.

Loving ourselves can be difficult when that love has been tainted by hurt, fear, betrayal etc. We can overcome that with truth, love and healing. It's our choice to choose this day how we will love ourselves better; love ourselves as God loves us. Let us be a living proof of a loving God.

On this solo episode I explore the journey of one of the greatest leaders in the Bible, Moses. As a little background I have challenged myself to read the Bible in one year, but to be honest it has been a struggle and I am behind but still determined to have it completed by December 31, so watch this space.

Now moving on to the episode. Moses is one of those Bible characters that teaches us so many lessons. And yes walking in our purpose is one of them! I discuss three lessons Moses teaches us about walking out our purpose:

  1. Don't let your circumstances or your past hinder you from pursuing your purpose

  2. Avoid the imposter syndrome

3. As you grow and walk out your purpose remain humble and open to support and advice
