It is with regret that I must inform you that Senshin Center dojo has been destroyed by a flash flood that entered our building - saturating the entire mat, all equipment, and all materials, with mud, debris, and water. With apologies, we will be unable to publish any new content for at least the time being. We are hoping this is a disaster we can bounce back from - this lesson in the truth of impermanence. Since its conception, Senshin Center has provided the Aikido community at large with free access to our content. This free content has come in the shape of writings, articles, blogs, podcasts, intensive training camps, dojo visits, and of course videos. The total library is immense and daunting in its amount. Many have benefited from this. If you have benefitted from this content and/or if your heart is so moved, please consider donating funds toward our rebuilding efforts. Donations of any size will be greatly needed and appreciated. Direct donations can be made in the following ways:- Venmo, please use: @David-Valadez-50(Note: If Venmo asks for the last four digits of my cell: 0166.)- Zelle, please use: 805-252-6003- PayPal: senshinone@gmail.comFor international users, please use Wise Tag: @davidmarkv8If you would like to make a donation by other means, please email me at: senshinone@gmail.com.Respectfully requested and greatly appreciative,Dave

In this episode, recorded in studio, Valadez Sensei reflects aloud on Miyamoto's Musashi's "Dokkodo" - "The Path Walked Alone." This text was written in 1645, one week before Musashi's death. It is a reflection on his life, and Valadez Sensei here uses it as a point of reflection in our own lives. Tradition holds that Musashi wrote the Dokkodo's 21 one-line articles the day he handed "The Book of Five Rings" (Jp. Gorin-no-Sho) to his disciple, Terao Magonojo.

In this episode, recorded in studio, Valadez Sensei reflects aloud on the limitations of controlled training environments and live training environments. In particular, he brings to the surface the error in logic that holds that the Universal can fully address the Individual as well as the accompanying error in logic that holds the Individual can stand for the Universal. This reflection follows the historical precedent set by Miyamoto Musashi in the introduction to his pivotal work, "The Book of Five Rings."

This episode follows a training session utilizing live training environments. The training environment consisted of a starting point of katate dori but then permitted Uke the use of all available weapons in an attempt to counter Nage's efforts. Training guidelines also kept the training to a slow pace, and deshi were asked to observe their mind - looking for signs of attachment, anxiety, fear, and resistance. In the after class discussion, a question was asked that prompted a discussion on the difference between kihon and jiyu. This is the ending of that discussion. This class is available for viewing on our YouTube Channel: SenshinOne. The title of the video is: "Jiyu Waza with Counters."
