Amy Louise Bogen
Gladys Bentley was a major player within Harlem as well at the "underground" element of Queer Harlem's thriving music scene.
She was a wailing pianist and creative and booming vocalist who performed at the infamous Harry Hansberry's Clam House on 133rd Street.
She dressed in full drag and has been called "trippley oppressed," as she was Female, Black, and Queer. I would add that she was also a powerful female musician within the world of music, which has always been "a mans world."
