There was an interview in which long-time actor, Clifton Powell, said he's been told multiple times that he was too black (too dark-skinned) for the roles he auditioned for. There is the idea of colorism that even passerby's of movies and TV shows can admit that there is a problem with Hollywood choosing lighter-skinned black people over those with a darker hue. But to hear it come out of Clifton's mouth - it exposes the seriousness of it all and how his career has been limited because of his darker complexion. Can this be fixed or is it already being addressed?

Most of us know the history of America, and yet, a good portion of us don't: the Tuskegee Experiments, the legacy of Henrietta Lacks, the infamous surgeon, J. Marion Sims, who performed surgery on black female slaves without any anesthesia because he believed, "Black women don't feel pain", to the most recent in history, the Flint water crisis that is poisoning a large number of black citizens with very little accountability. These are some of the most notable.
Then there are those outside of America where women in South Africa were sterilized without their consent. There is a long history of distrust when it comes to the black community and the government. Should all be forgiven, everything in the past and even things going on today that we don't know about, to just go and take a vaccine just because a doctor says so? We dig into that today!

The world is on fire as they watched a man handcuffed on the ground, beg and plead for the police officer to get his knee off of his neck. 8 minute and 46 seconds later, an eerily quiet George Floyd is laying lifeless on the ground...dead. The officer finally getting up off of his neck. What followed is a maelstrom of protests, riots, and criticisms against the way America has always and continues to police the black community.
I touch on the history of racism, why it's taken so long for a conversation that's mostly avoided to reach this level of an explosion, and the impact that George Floyd's public execution has had on the world, at large, who watched it go down in initial disbelief to horrific realization. This is America. Let's talk about it.
