Dr. Jacqueline Battalora is an attorney and professor of sociology and criminal justice at Saint Xavier University in Chicago. She is the author of the 2013 book “Birth of A White Nation: The Invention of White People and it's Relevance Today.”
As an anti-racist writer, educator, and trainer, she teaches courses in law and society having received her Ph.D from Northwestern University where her research was shaped by an interest in the social forces that make deep human connections across race so difficult to sustain. In Long Road to Hard Truth: The 100 Year Mission to Create the National Museum of African American History and Culture, Robert L. Wilkins tells the story of how his curiosity about why there wasn't a national museum dedicated to African American history and culture became an obsession-eventually leading him to quit his job as an attorney when his wife was seven months pregnant with their second child, and make it his mission to help the museum become a reality. Long Road to Hard Truth chronicles the early history, when staunch advocates sought to create a monument for Black soldiers fifty years after the end of the Civil War and in response to the pervasive indignities of the time, including lynching, Jim Crow segregation, and the slander of the racist film Birth of a Nation. The movement soon evolved to envision creating a national museum, and Wilkins follows the endless obstacles through the decades, culminating in his honor of becoming a member of the Presidential Commission that wrote the plan for creating the museum and how, with support of both Black and White Democrats and Republicans, Congress finally authorized the museum.

While earning a Bachelor of Science Degree in Psychology, playing on a championship basketball team, and serving as student government president, he became very active in the civil rights movement. After graduating, Dr. Durley became one of the first Peace Corp volunteers to enter Nigeria, West Africa. From Africa he ventured to Switzerland where he enrolled in postgraduate studies at the University of Neuchantel. While there, he was invited to play for one of the Swiss National basketball teams.
When he returned to the United States, Dr. Durley enrolled in Northern Illinois University where he again became intensely involved in the struggle for human dignity, and earned one of the first Masters Degrees in Community Mental Health. He earned a Doctorate Degree in Urban Education and Psychology from University of Massachusetts and a Master of Divinity Degree from Howard University.
Dr. Durley currently serves as Pastor of Providence Missionary Baptist Church and is a highly sought speaker on civil and human rights issues. He and his wife, Muriel, have 2 children and 4 grandchildren.
Religion serves to give us a perceived way to the divine. We are inherently driven to seek our divine nature. We have forgotten that we have the ability to reach that place from within ourselves. Consciousness is an aspect of Oneness. Our consciousness and the infinite cannot be separate. Unfortunately over time, the information and teachings found in religion have limited our scope of creation. At some points in time, religion has been used to control people in the name of god. With three of his brothers making a living in Hollywood, Daniel Baldwin was always going to be a fixture on the red carpet and the media. Of the Baldwin brothers – Alec, Stephen and William – Daniel was the troublemaker, a fact so true even in childhood. Originally from New York, Dr Brian King started his “life of comedy” while attending preschool in Tampa, Florida. Globalization has led to an important new paradigm in the political and socio-economic life of American citizens. Whereas once the United States protected its jobs, economy, and sovereignty with trade barriers like import taxes on foreign products, many protections have fallen like dominoes over the last 30 years through the use of “free trade” agreements and widespread deregulation of transnational financial institutions such as insurance companies, as well as investment and retail banks. The result is a more interconnected world geared more towards satisfying corporate interests and consumerism than what will soon be the archaic notion of national sovereignty and the perks that sovereignty delivers to the average citizen. In fact, the intent of globalization’s main proponents is to take one giant leap towards global governance and economic and cultural life. This means that there will soon be wide-open competition for jobs on a global basis rather than on a local or national basis. Americans living in Silicon Valley have felt the effects of globalization for years now. American born software engineers have felt squeezed out of the jobs market in favor of immigrants who are brought to the U.S. from China, India, and elsewhere, on employment visas. The American engineers dispute the statements that the immigrants are needed due to a lack of qualified American born engineers and allege that the use of employment visas it nothing more than a ploy to drive down wages, thereby enabling employers to pocket a greater profit. It cannot be disputed that the global marketplace that places a premium on low labor costs and that low labor costs are leading to a lack of U.S. jobs and a decline in the living standard of the average American citizen.

Karyn Parsons, best known as the character “Hilary Banks” on the long-running television show, “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air,” created the Sweet Blackberry foundation after being inspired by the true tale of a determined slave and the remarkable lengths he would go to in order to find his freedom.
While growing up, Karyn’s mother, a librarian in the Black Resource Center of a library in South Central Los Angeles, would often share stories with her daughter of African-American accomplishment. Among these was the true story of Henry “Box” Brown, a slave who mailed himself to freedom. Henry was shipped, by wagon, boat and train, from Virginia to Philadelphia. When the box was opened, he became a free man.
The story left an indelible impression on Karyn.
