The King is coming. Jesus Christ has come and will come again. This is the hope of the Church whom He purchased with His blood. Jesus’ coming is the eager expectation and desire of His people. It is our joy because He is our treasure and greatest good. This is the theme of “Advent,” formed from a Latin word meaning “coming” or “arrival.” It’s the traditional celebration of the first advent of Jesus in humility and the anxious awaiting of His second advent in glory. The season is a time for remembering and rejoicing, watching and waiting.
The purpose of this series is to help the church understand what it takes to become a mature church. We hope to demonstrate that many of the present issues within the church have been true for the first century church. Therefore, Paul’s replies to those issues are just as relevant and powerful for the church today. We want to bring light to many of the concerns and dilemmas so they might see how we all contribute into ushering the church into becoming mature.
God is a saving God! And yet, because of the suffering and tragedy we face daily, people find this hard to accept, believing God does not care. Day after day crowds of people go about their daily lives lost and broken, while the message of hope lives within God's children unspoken. This series is meant to tug upon the hearts of believers to see themselves as a modern day Moses. People called to stand before a present-day "pharoah" to tell him "the Lord says to 'Let my people go...'"
Far too many men and women live with a twisted view of blessing and success, focusing only on the material aspects. We believe this causes many to live depressed and unfulfilled lives. The tendency is to disregard all God has given us, to be grateful, and more importantly, content with what they have. Blessing is more than money and fame. When we understand this, we are open to truly live the Blessed Life.
