Here is a quote from F. B. Meyer - Through The Bible Daily - "Elkanah was evidently a kind husband to Hannah; but marriage had suffered from the general relaxation of morals, and the bitter effects of polygamy are illustrated here. Because Hannah was specially loved, Peninnah hated her.
The grief of the childless wife drove Hannah to God. There she found her only resource. When the heart is nigh to breaking, what else can we do than pour out our complaint before the One who is ever ready to hear our cry? We may trust God with our secrets; He will keep sacred our confidence. Elkanah’s love may go a long way, but we have for the most part to tread the wine-press alone. After we have eaten and drunk before our friends, “anointing our head and washing our face,” that they may not guess what is happening within, we must have a spot where we can unbend and open the sluice-gates of grief. And what place is so good as the Mercy-Seat? We need not vow our vows to bribe God to help us. The gifts of His love are more blessed for Him to give than for us to receive. But out of love we can vow what we will."
I just thought that was worthwhile sharing. as long as we were talking about Elkanah and Hannah. Now go listen to what Pastor has to say about 1 Samuel 1.
Some do it all the time but for our Pastor it's an extremely rare occurrence; and I do believe, if you listen carefully, that you will here him thump the lectern, albeit gently, for emphasis! Anyway, he was pretty pumped about his message this morning and by the time he had finished so were we! How do we dig ditches and why should we? Sorry, you will have to listen to find that out...

Episode 3 of our Christian Foundations; Water Baptism. I must tell you, my baptism was over a decade ago so I wasn't expecting much in a personal way but by the end of this I could feel my jaw sagging. I just never new how much went on that day!!!
Our Church (West Coast Church) is running an evening course on the Foundations of our Christian Faith as outlined in Hebrews Chapter 6. Here is the first session "Repentance From Dead Works". I'm afraid I do have to apologise as the recording is incomplete. There is about 5 minutes missing off the end. Still worth listening to though!!!

Gensis 32:22-32 This was the inspirations for Pastor John's message this morning. Verse 26 contains the title that I have used. Several things come to light e.g. the meaning of Israel (Isra = ruled and el = God); Jabok means "emptying" and Jacob means "heal-grabber", amongst other things.The direction and force of the message is yieldedness and that self is "public enemy number one".Have a listen and you'll see...
Again, a slightly longer episode as I wanted to include Sara's testimony and communion message as well as Pastor John's message on overcoming..."Who shall separate us from the love of Christ..." (Romans 8:35). It's all good solid doctrine!
Wait, just check out the spelling before we go any further. OK, both Pastor and the majority of the congregation seemed to think this was funny and I guess we all have that bit in us, but... Oh no, here we go again!!! You will just have to listen for your self.
This episode is slightly longer than usual as it includes the communion message that I wanted to leave in, hopefully you will see why. Also, Pastor had a really strong exhortation on giving for us as this was the day of our "First Fruits" offering... Some of the Scripture references that I wrote down were (i) Gen 4:1, the story of Cane and Able, (ii) Heb 11:4, "By faith Abel brought a more excellent sacrifice..", and (iii) Rom 11:16 "For if the firstfruit is holy, the lump is also holy;". That should give you an idea of how we went on today.

The title is a quote from Romans 8:28 on which his message is loosely based though he leads off with a passage from 1 Samuel 9:1...have a listen and see if you can answer his question
Here you will discover what was the beginning of the negative spiral. What negative spiral? In the literal sense, the Jews at the time of the Exodus or in the figurative sense, the whole of mankind. It's not nearly as dry and dusty as that intro sounds because this is Pastor John that's talking and you will receive some splendid advice on how to approach God...
