A new report was released in July 2023 with a focus on measuring youth index with regards to the progress of the United Nation's Sustainable Development Goals in Australia, New Zealand and the Pacific region. The research was carried out by the Sustainable Development Solution Network (SDSN) Youth AusNZPac, a UN initiative lead by Monash Sustainable Development Institute (MSDI). The result show that the youth are left behind in almost all areas of these goals such as psychological well-being and poverty.
In this MOJO podcast episode, we talked to Isabelle Zhu-Maguire who worked on this youth index report. The conversation covers details of the research, youth activism, and the prospect of change and progress for young people.

Learning to navigate the world online is becoming just as important as learning to navigate the world offline - especially for young people. As today’s media landscape changes with the digital age, so too is media literacy education.
To aid young people’s apathy and cynicism towards the news, there’s a push for greater involvement of young people in news creation, and a more youth-centric media literacy curriculum.

Not many people can say they captained their team to the first gold medal ever given out in an Olympic Sport. Bridgette Ireland can. She captained the Australian women’s waterpolo team in the Sydney 2000 Olympics, the first time the Sport was played at the prestigious games, winning gold to top it off. She tells Mitch and Seb on The Sporting Post about the dynamics and chemistry that make a successful sports team, her own journey to the Olympics, and a final second goal that led to a gold medal.

However, another insecurity arose months after surgery when she discovered excessive scar tissue was forming on her ears, called keloid scarring.

Australia is a pretty multicultural country, attracting around 190,000 permanent migrants from around the world each year. And chances are you know someone with a foreign accent.
But have you ever wondered what makes up an accent, or why someone might want to change theirs? What can accents tell us about each other and the society we live in? Accent is a part of communication but does modifying it interfere with our identity? Gillian Aeria takes a deep dive into the topic and meets some people who work with modifying them.

Streaming is an ever developing area in technology and it is becoming increasingly popular. From social media influencers to your next door neighbour, anyone can easily livestream from the comfort of their own home. In recent months however this has led to a series of debates after Brenton Tarrant committed the horrific Christchurch shootings and decided to livestream it on Facebook. The livestream went on for several minutes before it was noticed and eventually taken down.
