Do I have your attention?
Last week I was walking along talking to God, sharing my struggles and heartache, all the difficulties of the pandemic and I sensed God say something to me that won't go away:
'Do I have your attention?'
My 4 year old boy is a space cadet. He's always distracted, thinking about something else, so when I need him to do something, I say his name 3-4 times, I tell him to turn towards me, I grab his chin and point it towards my face, and then I tell him: 'look in my eyes'.
For the history of humanity, the only time we've ever paid attention to God, to the deeper things is during times of real suffering....and 2020 is God saying:
'Do I have your attention?'
Wildfires, earthquakes, famine, disease, pestilence, a half million deaths, a global recession, 40 million unemployed.....
'Do I have your attention?'
My Dad got cancer, every part of my life is harder, I'm not sure my business will make it, I'm not sure the church will make it. I am worn and beat down, weary.
'Do I have your attention?'
God wants our attention because when we turn towards him, we see love in his eyes. we see safety in his arms, we see restoration in his heart, we see a future where there is no future. He wants our attention. He wants us looking to Him, because He is the only one who can help us in times like this.
I'm leaning in, I'm repenting and turning my face and my eyes towards God and answering: Yes. You have my attention.
What about you?
This season has revealed how deep our faith was. The pandemic has shown us where we put our faith. And if you're struggling, it means it is time to make a change, to turn and face God and say, I want the life and the hope that you promise.
It's time to lean in not back away. It's a time where we see our systems of this world and realize, they don't offer what we need.
