This week’s episode on the Tidechasers podcast is HUGE! Come cheers with us as we celebrate our 100th episode! This achievement would not be possible without the support and love from all of our listeners and guests. And we cannot thank you all enough! Over the course of nearly 2.5 years, we have had 100 unique guests with listeners spanning all 7 continents, and nearly 50K downloads. If you think that after 100 guests, spanning from captains, fishing gurus, rod/lure builders, fish mongers, and even scientists, we would have run out of guests, you would certainly be wrong! To help celebrate our achievement for this 100th episode, we welcome Jim Hutchinson Jr., a good friend and a true superstar in the fishing industry.

Jim is best known for his managing editor position at the Fisherman magazine, bringing magazines to our doorsteps each and every month like clockwork. It is like a Christmas morning when we open up our mailbox to find the newest edition. But besides his writing, Jim provides updated weekly fishing reports, population reports, the newest low-down on tackle and gear, and what-in-the world goes on with the state/national fisheries agencies rules and regulations changes. We discuss all this and more in this episode. Without further ado, please open a cold one or load us up on the radio (please do not drink and drive) and listen in for this special episode. Big events coming soon!

What do you get when you mix a culinary pioneer, photographer, fisherman, and nestle him right in the middle of the Chesapeake Bay? You get Kirk Marks, the star of this week’s episode. Kirk has spent his whole life on Kent Island, Maryland, learning the waters around him. He shares secrets of how to catch the plethora of fish found in the Chesapeake watershed: Redfish, Stripers (or “Rockfish” as those Marylanders call them), and let’s not forget those beloved invasives, Northern Snakeheads and Blue Catfish!

This is part two of our shore-based flounder fishing series. Part one acted as an introduction to flounder fishing on foot, but part 2 is the meat and potatoes of why everything works and dives more into the details.

If your shore-based fluke fishing game is lacking or just getting started, you’ll want to tune in tomorrow to get the nitty gritty. We dive into gear, structure, the where’s and the whys, etc. There are reasons why the jerk shad produces so many fish, we talk about it, as well as scenarios that would cause you to deviate from the jerk shad (there’s not many, and I haven’t yet this year!). This has been a banner start to the season and the best is yet to come. 56 total keeper fluke landed this year, 55 on foot and 7 straight trips with a limit+ (I don’t keep a limit every single time).

On this weeks episode, host turns guest as @dmancari18 discusses shore-based fluke fishing in this part one of two episodes.

In part one, we discuss the single jig technique for shore based fluke fishing and where it started. Fishing for flounder from the beach isn’t a new phenomenon, however over the years, new technology in terms of rod builds and gear has changed the way many people approach targeting these flatties. From where it started with a conversation with @mcinteechris in 2017 or 2018 to today with fine tuning the skills brought to the forefront by another single jig assassin and friend Marc @shoremoney, the common theme is keeping it simple. This technique is the ultimate in finesse, ultralight fishing for one of the Northeast’s favorite fish. The focus of this episode is the history and gear used, from what Dan started with, to what he’s using today.

Part 2 will be next week and will break down with detail the technique, what types of beach structure to look for when walking onto any beach, and how to adapt and shift based on where the fish are transitioning in the system. Don’t miss it!

This week on Tide Chasers Podcast, we host Captain Joe Diorio (@joe.diorio.guide.service) or as we like to call him Captain BABOOM! Joe is first and foremost a family man, but when he is not with the family, he is fishing non-stop! Joe starts by telling us about his booming guide service and throws in an anecdote of how his obsession with albies got him fired from one of his previous jobs. His bread and butter is monster blues and striped bass in the Connecticut river and Block Island. He is one of the few guides that puts 50-pounders consistently on the boat for his clients. Joe also uniquely runs one of the only catch and release guide services for striped bass – kudos to him for preserving the striper community!

Sprinkle in his love for albies, tuna and his special, maybe cheating (…only kidding Joe), trout fishing and guiding on the Farmington River, this is an episode chalked full of info from fresh to salt. We got so caught up in Joe’s charisma, confidence, and fishing advice, that we lost track of time and our filters this episode (one of our longest episodes yet and it is certainly rated adult)! Tune in to hear it all unfold!

This week on Tide Chasers Podcast, we host Sam Scott of @blueridgemusky and owner of the @jamesriveroutfitter, the only musky specific tackle store in Virginia and maybe the world? And if he’s not on the water somewhere, he is writing for his monthly column in @woodsnwaters magazine. Come listen as we discuss the incredible fishery that the James River has to offer.

On this weeks episode, we discuss a topic very near and dear to the @tide_chasers platform, sheepshead and conservation of this incredible fishing opportunity in our Jersey waters.  Your hosts, @thatasianangler and @dmancari18, spend some time discussing the countless reports of over-harvesting of sheepshead of all sizes due to the lack of regulations.  We understand that everyone has the ability to due as they choose, however we try to walk the line between talking about responsible harvest as opposed to gluttonous behavior we’ve encountered on the waters we love.  Just because something is legal, doesn’t mean it is morally right.  Multiple times daily, friends and parts of the @tide_chasers community have sent us messages regarding what they’re seeing out there, and there’s legitimate concern for the fishery as a whole until more is known. Tune in as we discuss our views on the fishery, next steps in taking the necessary action to get it regulated and better protected, especially with as much that is unknown regarding the fishery in the Jersey waters.  We fully understand that we may lose followers/listeners by taking a hard stance against over-harvesting of NJ Sheepshead with no regulations, and we are prepared to continue down this road for the health of the fishery we love. Tide Chasers is a weekly podcast featuring local fishermen, charter captains, tackle shop owners and party boat captains among others.  We discuss our local fisheries as well as opportunities to the north and south of our home waters of PA/NJ.  If you or someone you know would like to be a guest, send us a message!  Otherwise, we appreciate all the likes, shares, follows and subscribers as it helps us grow!  Help us get the word out, hit that share button!
